If you're ever in town, sitting in traffic on sunrise highway or tanning at the beach thinking about what you're going to eat, Pit stop is the way to go! They were featured on Diner's, Drive Ins and Dive's and for a very good reason! I popped in today for my lunch break and I am over the moon. First off, the place looks so clean and beautiful with their new renovations. Tony, the owner, is probably the most special human being you can meet. He makes you feel like you're eating at your family's house instead of a restaurant! The girls behind the counter are equally as helpful and nice! I had the lobster with fries and a coke, a summer staple meal. I can say that this lobster roll is top 3 one of the best ones I've ever had. So much lobster, crispy fries and soft bun to complete this amazing meal. I'm now contemplating going everyday for lunch. Like I said, don't think twice, stop in, they have something for everyone! read more

Once again, Guy Fieri messing me up with his TV voodoo. And WTF is this place anyway? Its decorated from the 60's, its more of a deserted hamburger place and they just bolted up a new Pit Stop sign. Here's the problem with me....I'm one of those people who will always assume the very best of you until I am proven wrong. When the whole world is against you, and you've shown me nothing but sunshine and outstanding french fries, I will stand strong. Ride or die or naive? You decide. Either way, I guess with all the negative Yelp reviews that I had turned a blind eye to in the beginning, The Pit Stop was bound to show its true colors sooner or later. For us, that happened yesterday. I get that they are busy at lunch. I get that everybody has a bad day sometimes. But when you have a smiling, pleasant, regular customer placing a fairly decent sized take-out order and they ask to simply split the total between cash and a credit card, giving them major attitude and acting like they are a giant pain in your ass, complete with huffing and puffing and eye rolling is probably not a wise business move. We were then pushed off to the perpetually grouchy lady to complete our transaction, which really was quite simple if they would just have listened...."one wrap combo on this credit card, the balance in cash"....not hard, but they were too busy sighing and rolling their eyes to realize that, so she complicated it to the point where it actually took us about 5 minutes to get out of there. "Next time, you really need to let us know ahead of time" he barked. There won't be a next time, sir. Yes, I'll miss those fries, hence that generous 2nd star, but there isn't a fry on the planet delicious enough to justify being treated like crap when you're handing a business your money. I was rather unimpressed with this burger joint. I've passed it by for years, and after recently being featured on Diners, Drive-Ins and Dives, I figured it was time to give 'em a shot. Stopped by on a busy Friday night, and had to wait a while for our relatively simple order (two burgers and fries). The place has a gritty charm to it, but that didn't make up for the lackluster meal. The cheeseburger - $4 - was nothing special and too pricey for what I got. It was a regular cheeseburger, very plain, with ketchup and pickle. The fries were really terrible, though. For the price, you don't get much, and the fries tasted like old oil or grease. They were not appetizing whatsoever, so much so that I didn't even finish them. All in all, I won't return here. Maybe I didn't order the right thing, but if the meal I got this week was any indication, there's no reason for me to come back. read more

Burgers/ Dogs / Wraps Sorta kinda a deli or burger stand - depending on how you look at it- the Pit Stop is a little of everything. They have a selection of "summer" type items and wraps as well as sandwiches and salads. Set up like a fast food place but with more of a deli menu they have a little something for everyone. I tried the chili dog platter and it was ok - nothing I couldn't get elsewhere and to be honest, my chili blows theirs away. The fries were crispy and good and the service was outstanding - but then again the place was pretty empty so service should have been incredible. Parking front and side. read more

Really disappointed with my order i picked up today. First off i order wings with mild buffalo sauce. It doesnt seem like they even tried to put and hot sauce on the wings. Seemed like i was eating just plain chicken wings. I also ordered a side of cheese fries and they put the cheese on the side in a container. If i wanted the cheese on the side i wouldnt have ordered cheese fries. It seems to me they just didnt care about their service today. Really considering not going back in the future. read more

Decent food but I think it was just a tad overpriced for what it was. My wife and I went here because they were featured on Triple D a few years ago. All in all the food was decent but nothing special. The service was really good though for the type of place it was. Because of the slightly higher price I don't think I would go back again. It's not super expensive but it's just a few dollars more than I think it should have been. read more

I've eaten here many times in the past. The last time before today was approximately 3 months ago. I was disappointed but today wanted to give them another shot. This time I've decided will be the last. Firstly, my tray was delivered with a very long hair laying across my food. I immediately brought it to the attention of the staff. They removed it. No apologies or offer to remake anything. Secondly, the cost was out of control. 3 pieces of chicken tenders and a greasy pile of fries for $10. A diseased looking hotdog for $6. And the same for what I can only assume was at some point a grilled cheese sandwich before it was submerged in butter and microwaved. My son received 5 fried shrimp for $11! Crazy. The crab cake sandwich was gross. A fried, flavorless, dry patty resting on top of loads of veggies topped with a tiny bun and mayo trying hard to taste like a homemade tartar. It was good if you like lettuce, tomatoes and onions on a bun with mayo. I assume there might have been crab hiding somewhere in there. The "skirt steak" sandwich I ordered was a mess. It was soggy and steaming hot in the center, dry along the edges...meaning chef Mike(microwave) must have cooked it for me. Steak was way overdone and did not look like any skirt steak I've ever seen. The meat had the appearance of being boiled for an hour then dipped in gravy. No sear, no seasoning, just eww. First bite I took I spit out. Sour. Did not taste good at all. I brought it back. They gave me my money back, and I took a hot dog in return but that tasted old and weird. I threw it away. After sometime an employee approached me, did not introduce himself so I have no idea if it was a manager or a dishwasher, and asked about the sandwich. I told him it was sour. He said it wasn't. The sour taste was balsamic glaze. I explained how I was a butcher for 17 years and currently a chef and manager of a restaurant and know the difference between Balsamic glaze and sour meat. He walked away. On the way out, I cleaned up my table and eventually a lady apologized but it was obviously forced. Never again. Damn shame too, I used to love this place. read more

Stopped by here for a quick bite with the gal. Apparently, it was on a Guy Fieri show. I presume Diners, Drive Ins, and Dives. As we walked in and checked out the menu, the woman behind the counter showed us the specials. We ordered some chicken fingers, a cheeseburger, onion rings, fries, small shake and a small fountain drink. As we found a seat, a couple of groups came in. The food was ready, so I picked it up. The burger, fries, and onion rings were good. Nothing was great. The chicken fingers were okay as well. The shake was probably the best part. It was a little cramped in there and like I said, nothing was great. It was overpriced for what it was. The people were nice. The food was good. An unassuming shack looking place that draws quite a crowd. The menu adorns the wall along with Guy Fieri's signature spray paint job when he visits a place on Diners, Drive-ins and Dives. It's a simple place with counter service and seating for about 30. The Cuban Panini was OK, a bit dry, it was missing the moistness that I have experienced with Cuban sandwiches at other places. The crispy fish wrap was really good. Crispy cod surrounded by coleslaw and greens. It was really tasty. We tried both the regular fries and the sweet potato version. Both were tasty, but not as crisp and I would have liked. Not really worth making a special trip for, but if you are in the area, it'll make for a good lunch. read more

Great food and service! Small place but big food for sure! Huge menu, anything from burgers and fries to salads and ribs! They have the "diners, drive-ins and dives" episode of them on it playing in the restaurant. Definitely want to come back and try out more things they have to offer. We've been going here for years and we are never disappointed. Most recently we stopped in to check out their spaghetti squash primavera, which got an A+ on our report card. Ordered a sandwich and a milkshake and immediately got violent food poisoning the next day. Fries had no taste, sandwich was poorly thrown together and excessively dry. Milkshake was clearly not mixed right and i had to try to mix it myself with a flimsy plastic straw. I have never been sick from fast food and will never come here again considering this is my second day living in my bathroom puking my guts out. Save your stomach the hassle. read more

I order a medium which comes in a small cup, UBSURD!! Ever since Guy Fieri went to get a Cuban (which isn't worth it anymore) this place got in their own heads and bumped up prices where the food size got small. I am so disappointed in this place and how much they rip off their customers. I know every business has their mishaps, the food Is good so it pains me to leave this review. BUT, I've been waiting here on my lunch break for 25+ mins and i was the only customer here when i walked in. Not one employee has given me an update on my food and im growing impatient. I've had enough time to stand here, thinking its taking too long and STILL had time to write this review before ive gotten my food. The service is SLOW, although ive seen multiple come in after and leave before me. Finally at the end of this review. I just recieved my food and not one sorry for taking so long. I don't know if this event was encouraged by this establishment, but some B had the nerve to contact me and tell me "we here in Merrick like our turkey burgers white meat SO YOU'RE WRONG." Um, yeah, I can't be "wrong" about my opinion. Considering I don't eat beef and I eat turkey burgers all over the area, and I had eaten a DARK MEAT TURKEY BURGER from this establishment several years ago (which I've been ordering from for 14 years), I can tell you she is wrong about it "always being white meat." A turkey burger is made from dark meat, I guess they worry a lot about 5% more fat in Merrick and I'm sure she was only talking about herself, and integral in making sure she gets her way no matter what. NO ONE likes a bland, tasteless white meat turkey burger unless they're on some fad diet. No seasoning whatsoever. Here's a hint to you, lady. Go to King Kullen and buy white meat turkey and make it yourself! In the mean time, I will stick to their wraps, they use par cooked oversized tortillas, but they are very tasty. read more

The Pit Stop has the largest selection of wraps that I have seen; there are a lot of creative options, but I have stuck to the chicken based wraps such as the Chicken Wrap and the Chicken and Avocado Wrap. I have been hesitant to try the other options as the freshness seems to be a bit questionable despite claims that suggest otherwise. It's also a bit costly for the quality of the wraps. On a more positive note, the service and management are always helpful and friendly. read more

Anyway, saw it on Diners, Drive-Ins and Dives recently and decided to give it another try. Just beat the lunch rush at around 1130. Ordered the grilled shrimp wrap combo with fries and a Sprite. Also threw in a side of cole slaw. It came to over $17. Granted I ordered seafood, but still expensive for lunch. Everything is made to order. I was disappointed with the wrap. There was not enough shrimp and it didn't hold together well. Black bean mango salsa with greens and raspberry vinaigrette would have done better as a salad rather than a wrap. No complaints with the fries. Cole slaw was average and believe it or not they serve you too much. It was about a half of pound of slaw. I felt hungry after finishing my meal and it was a lot of food. My old roommate went more traditional and ordered a cheeseburger with cheese fries. He rated it from 1 to 10, a five. If you're a local, I'm sure it's a decent spot to hit up because of their extensive menu. Not worth going out of your way for. Better off driving a few towns over to Massapequa and visit All American. 2.5 rounded up to a 3 because the owners are super friendly. read more

Just ordered delivery and spend $30. Ordered a salmon sandwich for my coworker and a turkey Reuben with a side of lobster bisque. My coworker enjoyed his sandwich and i was content, but the reason for the 1 star is the bisque. It was absolutely rotten. Not just bad quality but actually spoiled. You could smell the fishiness and i tasted a sip just Incase i was overreacting but i surely wasn't. I spit it right out and my turkey sandwich almost came right back up. As someone working in food service, how could you not notice the smell or check the quality of your product? To knowingly send out something that has gone bad is beyond me. Someone could get really sick, makes me wonder what other dirty rotten things are going on. Needless to say i won't be returning or ordering from this place. Went today with a friend. Bathroom door (co-gender) has a busted lock and one of the workers walked in when she was using it, swung the door open and stared at her for nearly a minute. We left and called the manager who became belligerent on the phone, blaming her instead of apologizing. The food, I'd rather eat trash. She ordered the crab cake sandwich, it was hard and over fried in old oil. The atmosphere was awful as well, other workers there seemed depressed, and the girls at the front spoke with condescending tones. This hole was hot, no air conditioning, and I can say whole heartedly that it's not worth the money for the lack of quality. I will be making a formal complaint to the Nassau County board of health. Their chicken fingers are delicious. It's fresh white meat fried but not too crispy and greasy. Different from your usual deep fried nugget. Definitely paying for the freshness and not a cheap McDonalds nugget ($11.25 for chicken, fries and soda.) Fries are homemade cut and delicious too. When ordering to go they give you a little "care package" that has ketchup, honey mustard, napkins, fork, etc in a small plastic bag. I really liked that. So I just paid almost $8 for a hot dog combo with Sweet Potato Fries and a soda. The hot dog tasted like the ones you could get at 7-11 for 2 for $2. The Sweet Potato fries tasted like soggy cardboard. The soda was in a kids size cup filled halfway with ice. I think I would have lit my $8 on fire then to have wasted it on such sub par food. Having heard good things about Pit Stop in Merrick my husband and I bought lunch and and also a "family dinner" which includes a roasted chicken, and 2 sides and cornbread. There is enough chicken to feed 2 people max, but certainly not a family. The chicken was cut up and greasy as can be. The 2 sides, mashed potatoes and creamed spinach are each barely half pound, and again, suitable for 2 people. To top it off, only 2 small pieces of cornbread were included. For $16, this "family dinner" is a scam. Lunch was ok, nothing special and the buffalo wrap and fries were average at best. Having spent $39 at this establishment today was a full on rip off. Absolutely fantastic! Me and a few of my cousins went here to eat and their burgers were literally to die for. I had the "all the way" burger which literally did go all the way. It had almost every essential topping you could possibly have on top of 2 smoking hot patties covered in a cheese blend. And their homemade fry recipe is completely outstanding! They're so thick and crunchy it's too good to be true. This place is definitely a place to be deserved as a pitstop for those who want an amazing meal. read more

Don't ever get the "grilled" shrimp wrap. First of all it's not even grilled it was cold more like a cocktail shrimp. And for the great price of $15.15 you get 5 baby shrimp and a lot of lettuce. It IS in Merrick, Long Island and there are quite a few squeamish housewives with a caravan to serve. The people in charge do care about what they are doing, but the classic misstep is in suffering from menu ADD. A menu should give you only a few individual feelings. I do not want to get a Sesame Tuna Tataki Salad in the same place as I get a Bacon Cheeseburger. I don't want any salad (wtf?) at a fast food shack. And it IS a shack if you the outside - it looks great, by the way. And there is no way a Shrimp and Avocado wrap should ever share a page with a lamb gyro with fries. Oh, and what is a penne ala vodka doing in there? I'm looking for consistency. I want menu integrity. They may make it fresh when you order, but how could they have this gigantic selection without having a liberally used freezer. Do you think the gyro comes off a spit? I don't think so. Good selection of lo-cal and gourmet items. If you're into that. I have never ordered lo-cal and get turned off by anyone's gourmet claim.
