Missed an emergency dental extraction because of them. This is an update because they are not telling the complete story which I think is typical for this company. I informed them in the very first message that this was urgent because the shutter banging on the wall disrupted my concentration for my job, and kept me up at night. Scheduled for Saturday, and 10 minutes before the end of the 4-6 pm period, they said it would take 50 minutes to get here. Since I had made a personal appt for 6:30 pm, I had to decline. I told them Sunday was fine, and got no response. I told them I worked at home so they could come any time Monday. No response. On Monday I wanted to go to an emergency dental appt to have a tooth extracted but getting the shutter done was more urgent. About 3 pm I asked if they were coming and they said no, they had already been to Herndon and left. It was too late for the Dentist. I was not happy and in pain. I posted my very first 1 star review. Then they had the audacity to call me on the phone I use for business which could get me fired, so I said "What do you want"? Well Sam wanted to complain about my 1 star post and frankly it made me angry. I had to speak loudly because Sam was trying to tell me how inappropriate I had been and I told him to never call back. I hung up and put a block on his calls. The best prediction for future events is the past events. So, if a company does not arrive at their promised time and does not respond to your messages, then that means it is a good chance it will occur in the future. Again, avoid, avoid, avoid!!! I would not hire this company to dig the poop out of my toilet. I'm certain they would mess it up and then complain that I did something wrong.

Frankie was easy to talk to and made me feel listened to when I had concerns or wanted things done a certain way. Overall it has been the best contracting experience I've had and I've had quite a few!

I really do like how the project turned out and that goes to the sub contractors. Several of them were fantastic and I would highly recommend the sub contractors. Unfortunately, the management of the project was less than. I expected more communication. We were told several times when the manager could not make a meeting or was rushing there to meet for 10min, they were just "so busy with their other projects." Even the owner came at the end to look at a few things and didn't say one word besides hello. Honestly, we are still waiting on them to find a solution to paint on the custom oven hood and I doubt we will ever hear from them. Guess they are just writing off the small payment that's left. We have friends all over Southside and it's a shame that we cannot recommend this company because people ask all the time.

They worked all day on a Saturday to get ahead of a serious rainstorm forecast for the next day. In addition, they also replaced the flashing under an exterior door along with some adjacent siding. As often happens, they discovered and fixed some additional problems while doing these repairs, such as a small fix to skylight flashing that (hopefully) solved a leak that wasn't even on their original scope of work. The final cost was only a little more than their original estimate (very reasonable). We were very impressed with AHE's communication and work ethic. We plan to use them again for other work on our aging wood siding house.

When we realized we would not move in for a couple of months I asked the project manager to see if he could separate the quotes and do interior renovations before moving in. This was a "NO" so that 20k of work went to another contractor. Note this was the beginning of January so I assume not a super busy time. By mid March I still did not have a quote/idea on how much addition would cost...not even a ballpark. I was the one that kept calling/checking in to get status update. Needless to say I decided to end discussion. The new company starts work next week. Poor customer service/communication cost this company in excess of $150k of work. Another company is starting work next week. The only reason that I'm posting this is that I'm looking for additional work to be done and realize how much I depend on/look at reviews.

All the workers we dealt with were pleasant and relatively competent. The reason I would not recommend Coastal Contracting is primarily due to the lack of follow through with their one year warranty on materials. Our addition has been completed for about 9 months at this point, and we have had 3 distinct issues come up. Twice the HVAC has failed, and once the shower plumbing was malfunctioning. The first time the HVAC failed was right before the ice storm of early 2026, and we called the installing company to arrange service. They came out promptly and fixed the HVAC (faulty part, but we now had heat!) but we were told that we had to pay out of pocket for repairs since we did not first contact Coastal in writing. Ok. It then failed a second time right before the heat wave of July 4th weekend, so we contacted Coastal. We did get a personal email back after business hours saying that they would contact us after the weekend, which after 2 business days we have not heard from them. Again we did some repairs on our own. The plumbing issue happened between the two HVAC issues, so I was wise to submit my request for service in writing and followed up with a phone call, during which I was assured I would hear back...which I never did. It is just disappointing. Also disappointing were the many mis-ordered parts and vanity that delayed our project, the cut corners that we had to be vigilant about inspecting, and the surprise few thousand dollar increase in fee for a plumbing issue they did not see when they were quoting us. They admitted they didn't look under the house as they should have (I thought we were paying for their expertise?), but assured us that we could be happy that we were still getting a good deal. Maybe these hiccups and lack of communication after they get their check are all normal on a project of this size-I don't have any other point of comparison.

When we finally heard back they said "oh, there's a finance charge for zero interest" 2) Pushed back the start date by nearly two weeks. When they finally showed up, they just hung out in our driveway for an entire afternoon and said "we'll start tomorrow" 3) Their crews are small and slow. Took a week to finish the siding for a one bedroom, 1100 square foot house. I'd guess it would take 2-3 weeks for a regular sizes home where most crews complete jobs for our sized home in 2 days, tops. 4) Didn't order enough product and had to come back two weeks later to finish it. Didn't cover the unfinished area and it rained a ton -- now hiring a company to come and inspect the work since it definitely will have moisture issues 5) Left a giant dumpster in our driveway for almost two weeks after the main job and cleanup was finished, and for a week after they finally completed the last small part. I called the dumpster company who hadn't heard from them, they were just lazy and irresponsible and left it there. Office manager refused to help me or provide any guidance on when a project would start, how long it would take, and when it would be completed. Barely speaks English so communication is very difficult. Claim to have been in business since 2004 but their site and reviews don't reflect that at all. Would not recommend as we were treated very poorly by these people despite spending $18,000 on siding for a 1100 sq ft house.
