Stopped here for a late dinner for our first night in Galway. I ordered the chicken and mushroom pie and opted for the mashed potatoes over the salad. Since they pair so well with gravy. It came with some pickled cabbage as well which was a delight. Overall It was tasty and delish. It's priced pretty fairly for value compared to other places in the areas. However I'd happily pay less. My friend got the braised stout beef pie but found 2 hairs in it. so maybe hair nets should be worn by the food preps? Toilets were on the 3rd floor. Chairs reminded me of seats you'd find in a church. I got dessert to go and opted for the banoffee pie. Which was like a banana pudding with toffee and. Delicious crust.
A must-eat;even if you do like us and take a pie to go...make sure you get a pie! We stopped by for a snack to munch on while we toured Galway. We chose the sausage and leek pie to go, while my crew got dessert apple pies to go. The staff were so friendly, offering gravy, forks, etc in a complete to-go package. They were so nice, and the place was so beautiful-we were almost tempted to stay, but we had our adventure plan! The pie was beyond delicious. I was upset my hubby and I settled on sharing one. The crust was wonderfully flakey and buttery; the inside was stuffed with fresh flavorful ingredients, and the perfect amount of gravy-to taste not to smother. We wished we had more time to get more pies.
I have no idea why I haven't been coming to this place sooner. Their savory pies are oh so tasty, and a comfort food that just makes you happy. The crust is perfectly flaky. The beef is tender and melts in your mouth. I didn't want it to end. (I also stole a bite of my friends cauliflower pie- Also wonderful.) If you're looking for something authentically Irish and tasty as well don't miss out on this place!
Stopped here while visiting Galway based on the tons of trip advisor reviews and it did not disappoint. I called ahead to make a reservation and was glad I did as there was a wait for any walk ins. Though quite pricey, the flavors were absolutely worth it!! Such a memorable meal and really tasted authentic and balanced flavors. I loved the mushy peas and the gravy was to dieeeeee for. The chicken and wild mushroom pie was my choice and it did not disappoint. Relatively limited options but there was vegetarian pie and vegetarian gravy as well. Definitely stop in for a hearty Irish dinner!
We were looking for somewhere to go for dinner on our first night in Galway and this place showed up as the top place on Yelp. We got there around 6 and were able to get a seat right away. It was a very very small restaurant though, so I think we got lucky that there was a table right away. The menu was pretty small, but everything looked really good. My husband and I got the Irish sausage pie and the summer vegetable pie and split them both. We both loved both of them. It was hard to decide which was better. We got the rhubarb ginger pie and banofee pie for dessert and split them as well. Both were very good, but I think I liked the rhubarb ginger pie more. It was warm and delicious. This was an incredibly unique restaurant and I really enjoyed it. I would highly recommend checking it out!
What a delicious dinner treat we found at The Pie Maker. This is a must stop if you are in Galway. Period. No one exception. Yes, the food is that good. We had read about The Pie Maker on Yelp, before making our trip to Ireland. It's a lot simpler that way when UR planning a vacation Holiday. We order the Chicken with Wild Mushrooms and the Beef. Both are served with Mashed Potatoes, Red Cabbage and Mushy Peas. All pies are in the €11 to €13 range and you cannot go wrong. The only drawback is the relatively small seating area, with only 4 tables and 3 or 4 bar seats. So plan ahead and try to observe how busy they are as you are wandering the High Street nearby. Enjoy!
These savory pies are the best I've ever had particularly the Chicken and Wild-mushroom pie €13.50 with mashed potatoes. It may appear small, however, they are perfect in size especially with your choice of side where it be their Steve Gold Organic Leafy Salad or better yet Mashed Potatoes, Mushy Peas, Red Cabbage and Gravy. Together it's awesome in both flavor and quantity. The restaurant itself may be small, however, the service is fast and friendly. If your looking for a place fairly quiet and quick to eat that takes credit cards and even contactless payments such as Apple Pay, this place if for you. My wife ordered their Roasted Summer Vegetable Pie $12.50 and it was also great. They actually give you a pitcher of water which is nice not having to wait for someone to come by or not come by for a refill. I had high hopes for the Banoffee Pie €5.50, which I ordered and it was decent. However, by no means met expectations nor the hype I got from other reviews I read. I may have gotten a bad batch or it just simply wasn't as good to me as it was to others before. If I knew how it was going to be ahead of time based on my taste and opinion I would skip the Banoffee Pie here and either try one of their other dessert options or go to other places such as Peek A Moo that has awesome stuffed donuts. But that was my second dessert. Overall hands down a must if you're in the area and looking for a quick bite, you'll love their Savory Pies. Especially the ones I've had.
The beef & stout pie was my first meal in Ireland and it was absolutely delicious. It was made of beef, carrot, celery, and onion cooked in a perfectly flaky pie with stout gravy on top. It also came with a side and I picked the mashed potatoes, which went well with the pie and gravy. For €14.50, it wasn't cheap but it wasn't too expensive either. I came around dinner time and the restaurant was full, so I ordered it to go and ate on a bench by the water. It was a great view!
Unhinge your pie hole and prepare to feast on the best savory pies you'll stumble across in Ireland. The current restaurant, located just a few doors down from the original, is a "must eat at" destination for any of you who are lucky enough to find yourselves in Galway City. It's just steps from the Spanish Arch and has additional seating in the upper floors- so don't let the diminutive entry level fool you! The pies are fresh and full of locally sourced ingredients, making them a flavor explosion of the very best kind. You have a choice of sides but do the right thing and get the mash/peas/cabbage combo if only for the utter joy that is the red braised cabbage. Save room for dessert. The second best thing to their savory pies? Their sweet ones. The restaurant takes reservations but, should you forget and find it full, either wait- because it is SO WORTH IT- or grab one of their "to go" pies to cook at home. For a good while, they were also selling them in local supermarkets but have now opted to just sell them from the restaurant. This place is considered a local institution by those who have been. One visit and you'll understand why. Go get that pie, people. It will be one of the best meals you'll have in Ireland.
This is a cute restaurant! But dont be fooled by the size (its actually pretty big, has 3 floors) the service was excellent, and the chicken/wild mushroom pie even better (best i have had). Best place to fill yourself up after a visit to cliffs of moher. The irish coffee was very good too. So glad i did not take the tour guides recommendation on places to eat at and yelped this place instead. **Most likely a short (under 5mins) walk from where your tour bus drops you.
My sister recommended we go here, and it may have been one of our best decisions on the trip to Ireland. My Beef and Galway Stout Pie was so tasty, along with a nice side salad and cold beer. This place is tiny, with not many tables, in a very quaint neighborhood! The quality of the food is superb, with a very friendly staff. In Galway, this is a "must" visit!
So glad to have stumbled into this cozy little shop. It's great place to shelter yourself from the drizzle outside and great for a bite in-between meals. The pies are simply amazing - the crust are some flaky perfection. If you like pies, come here. If you don't like pies, still come here. You won't leave disappointed. P.S. They do have a restroom. It's just obscurely hidden in plain view.
When we first got here, the place was packed, but one of the girls working there offered to reserve a table for us as soon as one cleared out if we wanted to come back! She was the sweetest thing, and made our first few seconds in the restaurant extremely positive and enjoyable! She was also our waitress all night, and was nothing be pleasant the whole time :) . We ordered 3 dessert pies, and each one had their own unique flavour with reasonable portion sizes. It was a perfect little treat for the end of the night :) . I would recommend this place to an pie fanatics, or just someone who wants to try something different and fun! It was a great experience!
Pretty good pies maybe 3.5 stars - not the best I've ever had (try Ko pies in east Boston) but worth stopping if you want to get off shop street. The pie crust was good, flaky and evenly cooked, filling was moist and saucy, meat was good. All together it was good but the flavor was all muddled together, hard to pick out. The mash was good, the cabbage was excellent. The place is small, only a few tables and some stools on the bar. Lots of sodas on the menu but only a couple beers. The decor is pretty cool, worth the extra 1/2 star. read more

Tiny hole in the wall with eclectic furnishings. Reminds me of a shop you'd find in a Harry Potter world. Anyhow, if you walk pass and there's a table available, just pop in. Space is limited so take it if you can. They make pies fresh so it might take a while if you don't go at the right time. HIGHLY recommend the meat stout pie and chicken and gravy pie with all the furnishings (mashed potato, cabbage, gravy and smashed peas) it's DELICIOUS. So comforting and savory. It comes out piping hot and fresh. Will miss this when I leave ireland! read more

Amazing food, great place to stop if you are in Galway. There are two shops one is the original and the other is the newer location on the corner. Both are next to each other. Both restaurants are very small inside so best make reservations if possible or you could have a wait. Not good for parties of more than 4. Great good, wish we had one more day to go back! read more

This is one of those places that seem so little from the outside, but once you get in you really just can't manage to get enough of it. I arrived at The Pie Maker post lunch for a quick little dessert and ordered the Bannoffie Pie. Let me tell you, this is probably the best tasting sweet pie I've had in a really long time. The place looks so quaint and beautiful that it's hard to get out once you come in (especially when there's the usual Irish downpour happening outside). I stayed on for awhile after my dessert and ordered a cup of tea. They have really good free WiFi which entertained me for awhile. I finished my tea and still hung around for an hour or so. Before heading home, I liked the smell of the place so much that I ended up getting a takeaway of their delicious Vegetable Curry Pie (no points for guessing--it was awesome too!) One thing to keep in mind here, is that the place is a bit small and could get a bit crowded during peak hours. If you're in Galway and looking for a restaurant for lunch/dinner, look no further. I immediately saw the appeal of Pie Maker when I walked in. It's just gorgeous inside. Small but meticulously decorated. I really love how they made use of the space. Full of charm. I ordered a beef and stout pie with the mash, veg and gravy. Unfortunately the mash potato was cold (I mean not even heated cold), but no problem. The lovely waitress apologised and rectified it immediately. Great, these things happen and it's how they are dealt with that counts. Unfortunately, the food was mediocre at best. If you ever have had a Pie Minister or Pie Man pie, you can't but help compare the pies here to them. At least I couldn't. The beef was pieces of sliced beef; not chunky beef pieces you'd expect in a pie. The pastry was meh and the over all flavour disappointing. The veg and gravy didn't enhance the meal either. All that said, it was when I went to pay at the counter that was the biggest disappointment of this visit. A member of staff at the counter (manager maybe, she wasn't wearing an apron) looked at me offering money and unsmilingly said that she will take for it. She indicated to the nice waitress who took my order, who was busy with a drinks order for a table of four. She then continued to look down at what she had been doing before I interrupted her. I waited uncomfortably a bit and then asked if she could not take my money. Flustered, she didn't appear to know how to use the tablet till they had. By which time the waitress had become free and she took over. Baffling behaviour. I've notice this recently in a few businesses, the "it's not my job" attitude of staff. All front of house staff should be prepared to deal with customers in the hospitality industry, no? Two stars: one for decor, one for the waitress working her feet off. Not that any of this matters, Pie Maker is 1st on the Yelp list of Galway Restaurants, so clearly this formula works. read more

This is a place that is a must if you are ever in Galway! The restaurant is relatively small so you have to take the pies to go if it is packed. On my family's trip to Galway, we stopped here for a late lunch and were the only people there since it was an off-peak hour. We had read about The Pie Maker on yelp and were happy that the restaurant lived up to the many rave reviews we had read. For savory pies, we ordered the Chorizo Mozzarella Pesto Pie, the Chicken and Mushroom Pie, and the Roast Beef Pie. All of them were piping hot when we received them at our table and let out steam when we first cracked into them. Our favorite was the Chicken with Mushroom since the chicken was moist and the gravy was perfectly seasoned. For sweet pies, we ordered the Banoffee Pie, the Warm Apple Pie, and a Mint Fudge Pie. The Warm Apple Pie reminded me of my Mom's Thanksgiving Day Apple Pie...which is very high praise. The Banoffee Pie was unique and had a deliciously crisp graham cracker crumb bottom. The Mint Fudge Pie was little too dark and decadent for my liking. read more

This was the absolute best thing we had in Ireland. All of the ingredients are locally sourced and the beef is slow braised for 16 hours. This place is a gem and a must go to in Galway! We will dream of the pie for a long time. read more

This place is a must for incredible savory pies, mashed potatoes, peas, red cabbage, and gravy. Also, for international travelers there is Wi-Fi! It's a very small space so try to avoid peak meal times if you want a seat. read more

Ok. It's weird when you walk up because it's only pies and it is really small inside. The wait staff is slow to engage and we saw several people leave after looking at the menu. But seriously it rocked. It was fast and really really good. Don't walk away. Stay and enjoy! Totally worth it read more
This is a cramped little place but it's worth squeezing in or otherwise having takeout, because their pies are likely the best I have ever had. There are a few options to choose from. We had the Feta, spinach, chard and walnut pie which was accompanied with mash, mushy peas and veggie gravy. They were not the gross fluorescent mushy peas of my childhood, but were actually rather nice. The meal as a whole was delicious so even though we were only in town for 3 nights, we made sure to come back. We did a one day road trip to Tullamore, Galway and up to the Cliffs of Moher - and found this little gem on Yelp; and decided to give it a shot. To put it lightly, we were extremely pleased. 1. The place is tiny- and simply adorable. 2. The girl working was so accommodating, friendly and genuine. 3. The pie was flaky, tasty and full of goodness. The gravy was tasty and the cabbage was exceptional. The girl working kept offering us more cabbage and potatoes - and genuinely cared a lot about the little restaurant. Excellent bang for the buck or euro. Absolutely GBD (golden brown &delicious--Alton Brown) pie crust. We had the beef and stout pie and the chicken mushroom. Both were scrumptious, warming, and well seasoned. The stout pie was the best of the two. Oddly, the other star on the plate was the mushy peas. Lots of flavor! read more

Enjoyed the pie. It is totally worth the trip. We ate at the original which seats about 15. They have a newer larger location on the corner with more seats but served from the same kitchen. Try the banana bonoffee. read more

On our trip to Galway we were looking for a well YELP rated eatery close to our accommodations. The spot was intimate and the service friendly. We had a few local brews that were "ok". The pie was served in a dish with mushy peas, mashed potatoes and gravy as well as purple cabbage. Fortunately, my husband and I ordered one to share as it was quite hearty. read more

This is a little hole in the wall. Talk about small! But yet such a lovely little place. There are only 4 little booths and 4 stools by the sit-up bar area. It's a very rustics little shop with checkered board floors and copper ceiling. Now on to the food! The lies are perfect size. Very hardy and full of flavor. The crust is crispy and filling is an explosive of taste. The mashed potatoes are real (not that instant box stuff). We also had the organic soda. Extremely impressed with the flavor. So much better then Pepsi or Coke. Strongly recommend this little cute quant spot. read more

Charming! You walk in and are greeted with copper ceilings and bar...with a few booths on the side. All I hear is American accents from the patrons around me. A few locals came in for take out. The prices are 5euro less for each pie! Ok, the good stuff : Pies! Absolutely perfect. I had the chicken and mushroom. I don't even like mushrooms, but j went for it and it was delicious. The chicken was moist, gravy spiced to perfection and the dough was flaky and chewy. I ignored the mushrooms, which was easy . My hubby had the beef and stout pie, he said the flavors were all delicious. I agreed with him. The problem is the beer selection, no stouts! Only some wheat beer in a bottle, and wine by the glass. read more
What a fantastic little hole in the wall... like, literally. It's SO tiny inside. There are 4 tables and a very small bar that you can technically sit and eat at though it can't be that comfortable. There's absolutely nothing vegan in here so I didn't eat, but my friend did and said it was wonderful. The people working here are the best! Our server was a total delight and made the experience. They do have hot tea if you find yourself here with a friend but unable to eat the food. The menu is short and to the point. Be prepared to wait in a long line unless you get very lucky. read more

Stopped in for a late lunch on a very cold and rainy day. There are just 3 tables and a few stools so we were lucky to get a table. (They also do good to go). I had the chicken and mushroom pie while my husband had the chorizo and mozzarella pie with mashed potatoes, cabbage and mushy peas. Everything was fantastic and the folks there were super nice! Yummy! We sat in a cozy booth and ordered the brazed beer and a sausage with blood pudding pie. The crust was flaky and crispy and wonderful, both were savory with great flavor. One side we ordered the cold salad, one the mushy peas and mashed potatoes. I preferred the cooked veggies! For dessert, the traditional Irish apple pie was lovely. Reasonably priced. read more

Wow! One word should work for this restaurant, but more is required. I am not a pie expert; nor do I particularly care for meat pies. However, The Pie Maker is a must for anyone looking for something new in Irish food. Some pies are traditional, like the beef and Guinness pie, which is a must. I had the pesto and chorizo pie with gravy that comes with either a salad or mashed potatoes and peas. I opted for the latter, as it kept with the hearty theme of the pie. The chorizo was flavorful and went well with the gravy. The pie's crust was flaky and not dry; it too had taste. Sometimes I find myself eating around a pie crust, but not this time. My only regret was that I could not finish this enticing meal, and with a pale ale to was it down, made that breezy, cool, Irish night that much more enjoyable. Lastly, The Pie Maker seats about 14 people, comfortably. The space is wisely decorated with bric-à-brac from the late 19th and early 20th century, and the wall along the seating area is of a world map with an antique look about it. Overall, when in Galway city, The Pie Maker deserves a visit! read more

GO! We passed the side location and thought it was quaint. But kept walking. Later that night, we decided to head over before it closed. We ordered the Chicken and Mushroom Pie to share. It was delicious! Crust was flaky and the gravy was amazing. We followed up with the banana biscuit dessert. The server was so nice. They were trying to close but we never felt rushed. I have to say it was the best in all of Ireland. read more
