The Pie Guy - razzle berry
    Kim R.

We'd discovered these pies at the Orenco Station Farmers Market. I found myself craving one yesterday and feeling sad the season of the market was over. Luckily I recalled the name of the booth and decided to check to see if they sell elsewhere. Turns out they sell right off of their porch via a refrigerator and cash box (or via online payment). We drove out the day before Thanksgiving, so we weren't getting our hopes up for a lot of options. They had about 10 smalls available that day. We grabbed a chocolate, which we'd never had from them, and a razzle berry, my fav. Both the filling flavors were just fabulous. However the pie crusts this time were much more pale than when we'd had them previously (much prefer them with more color) Luckily the crumble on the razzle was nice and crunchy. Overall not quite as good as we'd bought before at the farmer's market, but they were still very tasty and much appreciated.

This has been on my bucket list to go to for a few years and I just haven't had the time or remembered it to go. Well...now I've gone...and I can't stop going back. I have tried, coconut, marionberry, chocolate, pumpkins, apple and pecan pie. Our favorites have been Coconut, Marionberry, and Pecan Pie. I'm not a huge pecan fan, but since trying this pie, I am. The location is such a nice drive, I don't mind it at all. And it's a honor system, you can pay via cash or Zelle, Venmo, PayPal, or square if you need but I think you'll need to ring the doorbell. If you have a weak spot for sweets, would not recommend.

Made the detour out into the countryside during a roadtrip drive from So Cal to Seattle. TOTALLY worth the detour! A winding countryside full of beautiful two lane roads made this adventure an incredible experience. Pulled up to the gravel driveway after about a 40 minute drive and found a sign directing me to the next driveway where an " honor system" money slot and a small fridge full of delicious treats waited. Couldn't decide which would be the best so, left with THREE delicious pies. Razzleberry, Marionberry and Peach/Berry. What a delightful experience to be trusted to pay for what you take....Never happens in the city any more! Continued the road trip drive completely anxious to try out the treats in the back seat! Finally arrived in Seattle and made sure to stop and get some Tilamook Vanilla Bean Ice Cream before stopping. WOW! What a delicious array of flavors! Gotta say...Marionberry wins the prize but, you can't go wrong with anything The Pie Guy puts together! I'll be stopping by on the drive south next time! Thanks for a great treat on a long drive!

Deliciousness crust was amazing and the filling was just perfect amount of sweetness

I'd say mainly because there isn't much going on in North Plains. But here's a little bit about Cuppa Yo: = Location / Parking = It's only about a quarter mile away off the Glencoe exit, in the newer shops area of North Plains. Plenty of parking. Only be aware of the indoor daycare center next to it. Actually, that's perfect... Feed the kids froyo and drop them off all hyped up and crazy at daycare haha! = Tha FRO and YO Toppings = They have your typical vanilla, milk chocolate, strawberry shortcake, dole whip, and tart. But really love the fact that when I've been here they would rotate flavors with things like salted caramel, root beer, cake batter, coffee, and a good mix of fruity sorbet types from berries to tropical POGs. And I'm pretty sure I've seen some gelato flavors too. I mean for me, it's like a new visit every time! As for toppings, they've got plenty! From cereals to waffle bits. Boba, cheesecake, crushed candy bars, peanut butter chips, fresh chopped fruits, to mochi, to nuts, and a nice variety of sauces! You name it, it's likely there! Pricing is by the ounce, so typically with a large and small cup, I know we've spent between $15 to $20 total (with tip). Really not too bad, in my opinion. Plus i like utilizing the Square point system. = Service = The kids running the place have been welcoming and receptive. Never have I seen them mad or bored or on their phone ignoring people. They keep the toppings area clean, and I've seen them wipe down tables and mop the flooring. Sorry, I'm just observant with these things. But trust me, I've been to some nasty Menchie locations, like the one off 185th, which is simply "bleh gross!" = TL;DR = Go back to the top and READ my review! This may be a franchise location, but I know I've ran into the owners who seem really nice. Plus they run this place well. Therefore, I'm in support of these guys 100%!!!

When we entered, we were immediately greeted by the lovely staff that told us that the first Wednesday of the month is "No Weigh Wednesday" where there is a flat rate for both the small ($6) and big cup ($9) as long as content of the cup stays under the rim. What a great deal! The space is bright and open and filled with accents of fun colors - very appealing for the little kiddos. They had about 10 choices for froyo flavors from your classic vanilla and chocolate to seasonal and fun ones like the spicy watermelon sorbet and I'm sure there are other flavors on rotation as well. There is a wall of dry toppings bar filled with candy, cereal, waffle cone pieces but my favorite is the "wet" toppings bar filled with fresh fruit and boba and my favorite topping of all - tiny little mochi bites! I also love that they had different colors of these too! Another surprise was the color changing spoons and the little whimsical touch of finding the toy yoda scavenger hunt when you are enjoying your yummy froyo in the shop. Treat yourself to some froyo next time you're in the area!

I just wish this market was more of an actual legit market and less tourist gift shop vibe. On to the details of my visit: I'd been looking forward to a solid local market and this one had been on my radar for a while. Unfortunately this wasn't it. It felt more like a typical Oregon roadside tourist trap with the standard "Made in Oregon" stale chocolates, granola, sweets, etc. The produce sections was relatively tiny and only about half of it looked really good. The frozen meat sections was almost entirely out of red meat, there was a tiny amount of fish and then frozen chicken too. However, the prices are tourist gift shop too. Think $10/lb for asparagus, $18/lb for chicken thighs, $10 for a dozen chicken eggs, $14/lb for ground beef, etc. I eventually just looked through their baked goods and noted the bread was date stamped that it was baked 2 days prior and priced at for a $14 loaf of sourdough. My favorite Portland bakeries all offer freshly baked (as in that same day) sourdough and other loaves for $9-$12. Anyhow, I ended up choosing some local brownies and which looked good but ended up being chalky, dry and clearly several days old. I'd love to see a larger selection of prepared foods to enjoy on the pretty back patio too. They just had a bunch of those pre-packaged sandos & wraps like one finds in an airport. Why not add a little pizza oven and or grill for weekends? Anyhow, there's much potential with such a pretty place like this one but it isnt quite there enough for me to make the 30min drive from Portland again.

This property is off the beaten path, but well signed and you have to know in advance that this location is at the end of Dick Road (so keep going). I had looked it up on the map and noticed that fact so I knew that at the end of the road there would be the vineyard. We pulled up to a house but it had various golf carts and other implements around so it appeared that no one resided there. The sign on the front door said join us outside on the patio just down the stairs. So, we followed down the stairs (I'm not sure what you do if you cannot do stairs--it looks like you maybe able to pull around on another side but I'm not clear on that) I would probably call first if I had any kind of mobility issues. We walked a little ways and saw a lighted room and so we went inside. Turns out this is the bathroom and not where they were wine tasting. We kept walking through the patio and there was no one in site. Finally, we spotted a large tent that was put up and the tasting area was set up there. We walked in and were casually greeted by a young girl who proceeded to tell us what they were out of and wanted to know if we wanted to taste a wine. I said that we had a coupon for the lunch basket and she wanted the info off of that and she would go and make it up. She then took off to go do that leaving us huddled on some damp chairs under the tent with another couple. It was about 48 degrees under the tent and they had heaters for the outdoors but they weren't lit. The YS and I were beginning to think we should get the food to go and forget the wine. Then the owner Melinda came out and asked if we wanted to taste a wine and proceeded to tell us a bit about them and we decided to split a tasting. She told us about how their vineyard as well as their farm acreage (they have about 70 acres). While we were talking the girl brought out the food and set it down not saying anything to anyone. I later asked Melinda if that was for us and she said yes. Melinda also quickly lit the heaters when she got out there she said that her helper (the girl from earlier) didn't know how to do it. I think the girl needs some training as she's doing a great business a real disservice. We ended up eating our lunch which was very tasty and bought a bottle of wine to enjoy with our lunch as well as two bottles to take home. I will say that our first impression was not a great one based on the girl and her demeanor we were going to eat and leave. Melinda is very friendly and customer service oriented. I will definitely be back again. If we didn't have two wine club memberships already we would have joined theirs as they have fun events with the wine pick ups as well as other events open to the general public. Beautiful setting, I would highly recommend.
