We went to the Pickle Factory when we were in town on a Wednesday and landed on it because it was the only thing open for supper in town. Service was very slow but it wasn't a huge concern for us because we weren't in a hurry. We started with beers (they were out of several of the options listed on their menu) and apps. We had fried pickles, cheese curds, and dill cheese curds. All were okay. I had the special, broiled walleye which was very good. From the time we walked in the door until we left, we felt like we were their most important customers. They have specials, but we ordered off the menu. Dinner was perfectly priced and presented. The Pickle Factory is a great place to grab a meal with the family and enjoy the wonderful views of Lake Pepin and the Pepin Marina. The menu is pretty standard but reasonably priced and consistent. The Bottom of the Barrell (bar on street level) is a new addition that offers cocktails and, often, really great live music. If you are just driving through town or staying near on vacation the Pickle Factory is a perfect place to relax and fill your belly. read more

My family is in Pepin for a wedding. We walked to the Pickle Factory for supper. The wait staff was very friendly and seated us right away. We ordered appetizers, the fried pickles and the cheese curds. Though I am not a fan of dill pickles they were good and the cheese curds were delicious. They serve several tap beers and the lake pepin ale was a great choice. Dark but very tasty. I ordered the fish sandwich and it was delicious, the fish was flaky and the crust crispy. I ordered the fries with it and the fries are sliced thin and into wide pieces giving you a crispy pocket of potato. Definitely a must try if you are near Pepin. read more

My first time visiting this establishment, as I rode up on my bike I could tell I was in for a treat. This restaurant sat off the St Croix River, and it had a patio that overlooked the river. Mary was our server, she was friendly, kind, and very accommodating. I ordered the grilled chicken breast sandwich and a side of their homemade potato chips. The sandwich was delicious, cooked perfectly, and the homemade potato chips were a smash hit. The bathrooms were clean, I liked the decor, and the other patrons were very friendly. Overall - we had a nice dinner at this establishment - decent beer selection, prices are right, service is friendly enough. The bar and restaurant are spacious and probably packed in the summer, we were here in February. We went with the fried pickle spears (delicious), the cole slaw side was good, not too creamy, not too runny (but had to remind that it was included in our dinner). The BBQ ribs were fall off the bone....but on the cold side. They didn't have jumbo shrimp but made up for it by subbing in extra. The menu is extensive, they just need some fine tuning. It's alright be me. Not special, not horrible. As three as three gets. Growing up pre-Yelp my family had our own restaurant rating system which is pretty similar to Yelp's. A one was for a place that you would never go back to. A two was for a place you would go back to only if you were with someone who wanted to go there. A three was for a place that you would gladly go back to, but not go out of your way for. A four was for a place that you would drive across a city or metropolis just to go to. Fives were for those places that you would drive a couple hundred miles out of the way just to eat at. The Pickle Factory is a definite three for me; it was A-OK - I would go back if driving past Pepin on 35 sometime in the future. Got the cheese curds for an appetizer. I've had better at the State Fair and a couple of restaurants in the Cities, but these were completely adequate. For my entree, I got the Hawaiian Chicken sandwich. It was acceptable enough. It could have used some type of sauce or garnish to spice it up a bit. The Pickle Factory name is a little misleading. They do have deep fried pickles on the menu, but I would not say that pickles are their specialty in any way. I've had better pickles from a jar bought from the grocery store than the one that came with my sandwich. They call themselves the Pickle Factory because the building that they are in used to be an actual pickle canning factory back in the day. The setting on the Mississippi River is quite pleasant, especially in late May before the mosquitoes are out in full force. Four for the setting. Three on everything else. Might be a better place for the pause that refreshes (drinks and appetizers) rather than a full meal. read more

we drove to this area as a group in our Corvette Club. parking was crowded but we did the best we could in a crowded parking lot. The meal was good but when we returned to our vehicles 3 of us had $100 parking tickets on the windshield. Not cool! if that's how Pepin treats out of town guests we won't be planning a return trip to this restaurant as far as I'm concerned as the clubs social director. You can accommodate and show appreciation for tourism guests or you can think of ways to rip them off to "raise revenue". you don't get to do both. read more

It was super busy, on the hottest day this summer and they were so poorly understaffed with only 1 bartender on and a few waitresses. I got my appetizer with in minutes of putting my order in. That was great. Ordering a second beer took a bit longer than it should have because the server came back and said they had to change the keg. My girlfriend also ordered a second beer (bottled) but never got it. When she asked the server about the beer, the server again said that the keg had to be changed?? We ordered a salad and a wrap. Classic situation where it's one of the 2 restaurants lakeside. I'm guessing this is the only reason they are still in business. I wish they would just focus on 10 items vs 100 mediocre menu items. The food was not bad, pretty typical bar food. The barbecue ribs tasted good, and the service was reasonably good given that our server appeared to be taking care of all of the tables on the outdoor balcony by herself, which seemed like a bit much for one person. She was friendly and did well to replenish drinks and bring the food quickly. We had a nice, evening sunset view of the lake. On the shore, which is only about 30 yards from the restaurant, there was a powerful smell of fuel from the boats. However the wind was blowing in a favorable direction and on the balcony of the restaurant (outside) there was no fuel smell. It was a pleasant evening, I'd be happy to give 3.5 stars if that was an option but I have to go with 3. read more
