I have never heard of this play before, yet my dad and brother knew it very well within the psychologically realm. Lol, As I listened to the play, there were a number of quotes I had actually heard when I was studying different theories within existentialism so it brought me back to my old college days! Lol A very small cast, but so well acted, especially the amazing rant that the character, lucky does was almost like a wrap! I honestly wish I had tape recorded or at least the audio of that because he said so many amazing quotes and Mantras of life. I wish I could've repeated any of them! My brain could not process everything so quickly but goodness well played!! The seats were a bit rickety, but they were still comfortable, and the play itself was not too cold luckily for me since I'm always freezing! Lol I also had a jacket handy, just in case. It was a cold overcast day, and the wind picked up, but everything inside the theater was pleasant. I wouldn't mind coming back and seeing a couple other plays especially the musical number ! This particular was about 2 1/2 hours long so at the last 30 minutes of the play, sadly my dad's phone rang since we were late for our dinner reservation! Lol, so I wish we knew how long the play was going to be before we made dinner plans. Lol.

Spacious theater with plenty of spots to practice or do rehearsals before showtime. Staffs are great communicators and are always helpful. This place has been around forever and City Hall is a great place to gather or use public restrooms as well. Cafe is easily accessible next door. If you come here in December during the annual Christmas Tree Lighting event, you won't be disappointed. Colorful Christmas vibes everywhere. There's a good sized local park behind it and you can easily park on the streets which are all walking distance. Besides ballerinas and dancers, you get to watch singers, group choirs, and many more colorful entertainments on the outdoor stage area. Inside stage is usually reserved for larger popular shows. Yes, dressing room and areas for practicing before performance time is well set and they're usually on time moving groups in and out as scheduled. Love the backstage area and scenes. Good feeling inside and outside.

A M B I A N C E + The theater seating is consecutive straight rows like an auditorium, so every seat has a good view. We had assigned seating. Theater was clean and cozy. + The chairs were comfy, not the kind where you end up stiff if you've got long legs. + There are ADA seating available, and specific shows with ASL interpreters. + Concessions and restrooms are super close on the right of the theater when you enter the front doors. + The acting, stage design, and music were superb. "What you don't necessarily realize when you start selling your time by the hour is that what…read moreyou're really selling is your life." Barbara Ehrenreich, Nickel and Dimed: On (Not) Getting By in America "When someone works for less pay than she can live on -- when, for example, she goes hungry so that you can eat more cheaply and conveniently -- than she has made a great sacrifice for you, she has made of a gift of some part of her abilities, her health, and her life." Barbara Ehrenreich, Nickel and Dimed: On (Not) Getting By in America I made my first visit to Lohman Theater, on the Foothill College campus, to support Yelper VB's lead turn in the play adaptation of Barbara Ehrenreich's best selling book: Nickel and Dimed: On (Not) Getting By in America. Lohman Theater, as it says on the web: "features an advanced audio system, lobby video monitors, and internet access throughout the facility. A large lobby area, suitable for receptions, doubles as a gallery space for art exhibitions. With an intelligent design that utilizes technology and maximizes space flexibility, Foothill's Lohman Theatre has many features which create a sophisticated, comfortable space for theatre patrons and performers." I was indeed impressed with the theater and had an excellent seat two rows from the stage off on the left side. Seat was comfortable with very good site lines. The students/actors helping with customer service were professional although I thought the "working" theme music was played too loud and the bathrooms were a bit messy. The play itself was written a bit ham-handed and obvious with two many quick scenes and a definite "pandering to the audience" feel to it. Unfortunately, the people who need to see this snapshot of the hardships the working poor face, namely Republican leaders and anyone in the Red States who keeps voting them into office, will never see it nor be open to its ultimate message that if one chooses to work, one should be afforded the dignity to be able to live on that wage. And it is interesting how our culture now treats the working poor. My son, who has grown up with a very bleeding heart liberal father who helps create affordable housing now asks me to estimate what everyone makes that he sees when we go out. When I see the derision in his face when I tell him how little the service workers we encounter probably make, I know that didn't come from me. That comes from our current culture, especially Orange County's culture on how the population views the working poor, and I definitely have my work cut out to teach him some knowledge and empathy. However, my feelings about the obviousness of the play and its message do not extend to the actors who from VB in the lead, to the Students and other actors supporting her, were absolutely outstanding. I was impressed with several of the actors performing not least of whom the actress who played Holly as she nailed that role perfectly. Having worked in customer service to pay my way through my first college degree I knew that character several times in my life and again, the young woman creating that character could not have been more suited for that role. As was VB playing Barbara; she inhabited that role almost perfectly too without really seeming to be "acting". A nice understated, hitting all the right notes yet bringing the emotion front and center. A fantastic effort by everyone in the cast! If you can see it before it closes on Sunday, I highly recommend it. seats I think are $18 on the weekends, $3.00 parking. There was a Goldstar deal but it has ended. I will definitely come out to this venue to see more performances. P.S. Wal-Mart comes under fire because of their documented abuse of workers including making them work without pay. A congressional report was just released that proves the American taxpayer is essentially subsidizing Wal-Marts profits since so many Wal-Mart workers have to access public assistance. The Walton Family's billions are essentially blood money paid from the backs of their workers and from taxpayers like myself who would never even step foot in one of their hideous stores. We got there an hour before the show started, so we were able to sit in the 6th row (middle)! I was surprised to see a lot of people already seated an hour before the show, too. There was a man speaking on stage, and he was discussing the show. I thought that was pretty cool. He went over the program and gave us some background info. Ten minutes before the show started, I saw all the performers tuning their instruments. There was definitely a lot of noise on stage. =) Finally, the lights began to dim and the show was about to start. I was waiting in anticipation. =) I really enjoyed the first half of the show. All the flamenco dancers made the show really interesting. They all did a great job dancing to the music, too. I liked how there was a 20 minute intermission. This gave people time to use the restroom or just get up and stretch. The second half of the show was mainly a guitarist. He played all the songs without looking at any notes! I was really impressed. Overall, the Peninsula Symphony was a really great show.

I think I was less than 10 credits away. Growing up, I was the 3rd chair violinist in the school orchestra and I played the piano competitively throughout high school. Sadly, after college, I rarely got the chance to play either instrument, and I'm not even sure if I sat at a piano today, I could play. My mom and I had the pleasure of seeing the Peninsula Symphony kick off their 60th season at Flint Center on Saturday. Acclaimed concert pianist Jeffrey Siegel played one of my favorite concertos, Grieg's Piano Concerto in A Minor. We enjoyed a wonderful evening of Romantic masterpieces. I left feeling inspired to take up the piano again. Tickets to concerts are very affordable, and they perform at various concert halls throughout the Valley. Check out their schedule for upcoming concerts. I know I need a little more culture in my life, and this is something my mom and I can enjoy together, which is great for mother-daughter bonding.
