This was my first time at this particular stage company, and we saw "Waiting for Godot!" Wow- the voices of both the two main characters were simply marvelous!! I have never heard of this play before, yet my dad and brother knew it very well within the psychologically realm. Lol, As I listened to the play, there were a number of quotes I had actually heard when I was studying different theories within existentialism so it brought me back to my old college days! Lol A very small cast, but so well acted, especially the amazing rant that the character, lucky does was almost like a wrap! I honestly wish I had tape recorded or at least the audio of that because he said so many amazing quotes and Mantras of life. I wish I could've repeated any of them! My brain could not process everything so quickly but goodness well played!! The seats were a bit rickety, but they were still comfortable, and the play itself was not too cold luckily for me since I'm always freezing! Lol I also had a jacket handy, just in case. It was a cold overcast day, and the wind picked up, but everything inside the theater was pleasant. I wouldn't mind coming back and seeing a couple other plays especially the musical number ! This particular was about 2 1/2 hours long so at the last 30 minutes of the play, sadly my dad's phone rang since we were late for our dinner reservation! Lol, so I wish we knew how long the play was going to be before we made dinner plans. Lol. read more

We saw Yoga Play a couple weeks ago; excellent show. It was our 1st time at the theater. We loved the sound system, stage, props, actors, script, music, seating. All seats are great and tiered. We will be back again for more shows this year. Yay! 5 stars read more

Super amateur and uncomfortable. Dropped by here on a lark because I saw a sign advertising their production of "Cabaret" at a local restaurant and I've been meaning to see the Robert Altman film. 95% of the audience were Boomers who are probably bored out of their minds and desperate for any diversion from waiting for the sweet release of death. The other 5% were presumably friends of the cast. Basically all the actors were failure-to-launch white guys in their 30s, along with a few plus-sized Hispanic and Asian actresses. One actress was an attractive white girl, which confused me so badly that I assume she must have been somehow blackmailed into being part of the play. Nobody seemed to be having any fun, the laughter felt forced, the costumes and make-up were garish, and the playbill lacked any context for the story. I feel vaguely like I was rubbernecking the end of Western civilization, where young whites (who are a minority of young Americans) put on a half-hearted charade for their grandparents to try and maintain the illusion that the world they lived in still exists. As the Boomers pass away over the next decade, I expect all these local theater companies to shut down. The aforementioned attractive white girl and an acrobatic gay white guy seemed to actually be trying, which I appreciated, but their efforts weren't enough to salvage the play from all the others phoning it in. I'm glad I walked out a half-hour in. I wish I could get my money back. This may have permanently put me off from live theater lol. read more

We saw a Christmas Carol last night. Go see this play! The choreography/blocking was especially fabulous as were the sets and the way the cast handled them. The smoke was perfect and the ghost was amazing. Lots of effort went into this production and it shows. read more

Our first outing at this wonderful theater was nothing short of fantastic! We viewed Heroes of the Fourth Turning on Sunday. From start to finish, top to bottom, we witnessed stunning performances from every actor on the stage. The intensity they collectively created is EXACTLY why we seek live theater productions. And this was easily the best we have seen (and felt) in a long while. There is not a bad seat in the house and we found the ticket pricing more than reasonable. We can't wait for the next shows!! Such a hidden gem in bay area. We went to see the The Curious Incident of the Dog in the Night-time. The actors are highly skilled, full of passion, and have a deep understanding of their roles, so they can effortlessly make us smile, laugh, and shed tears. The performance is just wonderful, giving us an unforgettable night. We already bought tickets for their next play: Secret Garden. Great job, guys, great job. read more

Los Altos Stage Company shines in their production of Harold and Maude. Everything about the play is top notch, from the set, to the special effects, to the acting, especially the actress who plays Maude. This is a performance not to be missed. read more

Los Altos Stage Company is a local community theater formerly knows as Bus Barn, because of its location. The building that houses the theater used to be a barn for school busses. It is located next to the soccer field across the road from the furthest side of Los Altos Library, diagonally to Los Altos History museum. A friend of mine volunteers there and helps with costumes and stage production. All their productions are truly of high quality on par with Broadway performances. They've produced about a hundred productions since their inception in 1995, this June of 2016 marks the 21st anniversary for the company. The theater is intimately small with only 99 seats. The view from any seat is equally good and the ambience inside the theater is warm, welcoming, and personal. Every show is inspiring, entertaining, provoking, and engaging. For those with kids in the family, I highly recommend checking out their summer camps and youth workshops, especially if your child is interested in performing. read more

What a cool space! The outside totally belies the fully-functional black box theatre on the inside. They work really well with the space they have-- the bathrooms are clean and functional, but outside... like at a beach. Productions here are affordable, and well above the quality of your average community theatre. Their production of Avenue Q was especially phenomenal... Almost Broadway quality!! They choose shows that have wide appeal, and I can't wait to see some of the ones in their upcoming season! read more

All the world's a stage, and all the men and women merely players, but this particular stage used to be a bus barn. I found the name Bus Barn Stage curious when arranging for the show. Once I arrived and saw the place I realize that it used to be a barn/shed that housed school buses. There is ample parking in the front. The theater itself is quite nice. The seats are comfortable and has stadium seating so there's not really a bad seat. The theater is small and cozy. The worst part is that the bathrooms are hard to find and gross. They are outside of the theater to the left and around behind the box office. The bathroom is also like a state park bathroom that is open and exposed and not very clean. It's not bad for guys but I suggest women go before they get to the theater. read more

A wonderful little theater (about 100 seats) that offers surprisingly professional productions. There is a very eclectic mix of shows, from ones I've never heard of, to classics, to musicals, and every one has been very good. They consistently have excellent performers and costumes, and the sets are original and creative considering the limited space they have. On the plus side, concessions can be brought into the theater and you always have a good seat that's close to the action. Parking is plentiful, close, and free! If I had to offer a down side, the theater does tend to get cold in the winter - but bring a warm jacket or blanket, grab a hot chocolate, and you'll be fine. read more

Wow, in response to that one lonely one-star review from KendraP, I just want to say that for starters, Assassins is just a little over 90 minutes long. Beyond that, personally, I loved the show. In fact, I'm going back. I'm taking my son and his friend to see it tomorrow night, because it closes on Sunday. This was my first visit to the Bus Barn and I'm sure it won't be the last. I have driving by Hillview Ave many times over the years but I had no idea this was here. The Bus Barn is surrounded by a large field where soccar games take place on Saturday mornings. Yesterday was a beautiful day and daughter and I went to see Dr. Noize. He was awesome! He is full of energy and gets the kids excited and up on the stage playing instruments and dancing. My daughter had a blast!! And it was clear the other kids were having a great time too! I could see the parents getting into it too, having fun watching their children having fun! The Bus Barn is a little theater, maybe 100 seats, and it's nice and intimate. It's nicely set up and the rows are easy to get by in, unlike some smaller theaters. It lends itself to letting the kids stand up during a performance. I loved this little gem of a theater. I will definetly take my daughter back for another show. read more

It's like going to someplace ordinary and then opening the doors to discover a secret world that only few have laid eyes on. Bus Barn was apparently a barn for old school buses, that's where it got the name . They have clearly turned it into something delightfully more creative than the name (although the new name "Los Altos Stage Company" is far less quaint than the previous name). There are only 7 rows, and about 100 seats. The seating is cozy and it feels as though you are watching a private show, just for you and a handful of friends! No seat is a bad seat. The ticket prices are a fraction of the cost compared to a larger theater, and the quality of performance is up to snuff with Broadway. In fact, having experienced Avenue Q for the first time at Bus Barn, I went on to compare the performance to the original New York show. The actors at Bus Barn had better voices and line delivery compared to New York, in my opinion. One suggestion: if you go to an evening show, plan to eat dinner in advance or bring snacks to eat during the 15 minute break. Perhaps Bus Barn should consider adding a vending machine-type snacks and drinks bar during halftime! If you are looking for a fun date night, group activity, or family outing -- Bus Barn is a good place to spend your time and money! It beats going bowling every weekend. read more

We saw Avenue Q here - hilarious! This little theater is really cute. Parking is super easy and the spot is easy to find. Walking in, it is a small theater, so you really can't find a bad seat in the house. We were up close on the left and we could see everything perfectly. But if you were in the back, I think it would be just fine too. The acting was fantastic, the staff was helpful and welcoming. They even had little snacks to buy during the break. They have a really small outdoor style bathroom, which is the only drawback with so many ladies. This is a lovely theater and we would definitely consider coming back. read more

We came here last Saturday to watch a fabulous performance: "Angels of America" by First Stages. Full house!!! It was directed by an impressive high school senior called Revati Dhomse. The cast - both teenagers and adults - are just AMAZING in this show. Extremely talented and impressive. The energy is amazing. It's hilarious, funky, and emotionally powerful at the same time. Wonderful interpretation of Tony Kushner's work by both professional and semi-professional / young / very young actors! Bus Barn's Barbara Cannon is amazing too! And I love the physical layout of the theater. It feels super homey, cozy and quaint! It's a small-scale community theater located in the quiet, small town-like Los Altos, near the Los Altos library and city hall. The stage and the size of the theater is small enough to allow you to feel the dramatic impact shooting out at you from the stage, yet big enough to house a relatively large audience. Surrounded by greenery. Ample parking. Super friendly staff. What a wonderful hidden gem... Definitely would come back for some other shows soon! read more

The Bus Barn Theater is a funky little community-based theater company housed on the edge of Hillview Park in Los Altos. It turns out it is one of the Packard family's many influences on the area as it is was started with seed money from the David and Lucille Packard Foundation. I've had two very different theater experiences here --- I saw "Enchanted April" with a bunch of girlfriends then came back with my kids for the mother of all kids concerts --- the double bill of Andy Z and Dr. Noize. From the ticket booth to the snack bar and the ushers, these folks go the extra mile to make sure your experience is pleasant! The kids event couldn't have been an easy one for holding their composure either --- just imagine, large packs of small children all under the age of 8 and their parents. (Honestly, I saw many examples of parents being a bigger pain.) The theater experience viewing "Enchanted April" was a lot more subdued and restrained. My bottom line point here though is whether they're delivering culture in the form of a classic play or rocking the roof off the place with the kiddies, the Bus Barn theater and its staff is equipped to handle it all. I'm always amazed at all the talented performers we have in our community. Just seemingly ordinary people who can flat out sing and perform. The Bus Barn definitely showcases such local talent. We saw Pippin last night, and we were treated to such a beautiful array of singing voices. Top notch quality in an intimate (Tabard-sized) space. The highlight for me was the production itself. An imaginative and effective retelling of Pippin in light of social media today. The pressure to live a hashtag life. Maintaining an illusion no matter how empty and vacant -- your "Facebook Self" as the director put it. A stroke of genius by the director putting it all together and making sense of it all. Great directing, genius retelling of the Pippin story in today's age (so relevant!), a committed and talented cast, and charming choreography. read more

I have enjoyed plays here in the past, but have to give one star (and would give zero if I could) for incredible rudeness experienced today. The Los Altos Stage Company was doing some kind of fundraiser/event on a public street in Los Altos that backs onto a major access point for pedestrians who walk locally. They would not let my husband and I get through, which meant adding another half mile to the end of our walk that we had not planned on (and it was starting to get dark). The people staffing were totally inflexible, unapologetic and patronizing. Tip - if you have "community" in your name, try accommodating members of the community who just want to be on their way instead of treating them like interlopers. (Trust me -- no one is angling to swipe from your cheese tray.) I won't be giving any money to this group in the future. read more

Came here w/ six others to see 'cat on a hot tin roof'. Purchased my tix via a 3rd party and had a little snafu in getting them all. Like most of the comm theaters in the bay area, it's an intimate setting, seating around 80 ppl or so(?). It's a small theater so it doens't matter where you sit. We sat in the 1st row and i think it's better further in the back actually. The show was very good. We enjoyed it alot. GPS led me to the city library. The theater is just a yellow bldg diagnoally behind the library. If you want to eat before the show, downtown is about 1.5 miles away. Soda was sold during intermission. I think it'd be nice if they had a bigger variety (healthier) to include water and perhaps some juices & maybe fruit. The play was very long (3 hours) so I got abit hungry despite having had some food prior. read more

I'm probably rating this for the wrong reasons. They have a nice park area with picnic tables and benches. Their 24/7 bathroom is really convenient and always a big help. The place seem to be a real good area for hanging out. Nice and safe and you have the Los Altos police protecting the area. read more

We've seen five performances here, and consider it community theater at its best. It's a small, intimate venue, with seating close to the stage. The actors are excellent, and had us rolling in the aisles with laughter in The Trailer Park Musical. A small gripe is that they wait until 15 minutes before show time to seat you. read more

My wife and I saw "Man of La Mancha" on Sunday, December 13. It is a spectacular performance -- better than the Peter O'Toole/Sophia Loren version from the movie. The singing and live musical accompaniment is top notch. It's a great show, quite moving. read more

Attended the opening night of SYLVIA, January 28. Bravo to director, Marcia Frederick, for her skillful staging of this romantic comedy, by A.R. Gurney. Kudos also to cast members, Greg Boswell, Sondra Putnam, Katie O'Bryon, and Michael Sally. Each character was brought to life with energy and verve.
