Hmmmmm. 6 people in the whole place and the bartender was overwhelmed. Sat at bar and waited 5 minutes to get drink order going......never was told of specials or what they had........."what can I get you to drink". Beer I ordered took a long time since the keg blew.....figured he changed the keg and all good, ordered a 2nd beer and bartender poured it but said the keg was changed and to let him know if it didn't taste right as new keg was different........yes it was bad. Burger was way over cooked for medium. Why is downtown davenport so lame on a Saturday afternoon.......I can go to Dubuque, Iowa city, Des Moines and see vibrant areas so don't understand it......customer service and professional staff are non-existent. read more

The wait staff is the only thing keeping this place from having a two block line. The food and drinks at this place are unbelievably great. I have yet to have a bad experience other than occasional slow wait staff. A great way to rehab a downtown building in the middle of all the action. You know everything is fresh and well prepared by good chefs as well because there are only so many of each entree available on any given day. This is really a high quality place. read more

We are here for our 26th anniversary and had the pistachio encrusted salmon and the black and blue filet. Both were excellent and went well with the chardonnay and cabernet that we selected. The staff were very friendly - helping us select the right wines. And the atmosphere was very relaxing. I think we will have to come back on a Saturday when they feature a live pianist. read more

I was here for a bachelorette party...reservations were made for 7:30, table was not ready for us and when we finally did get our seat it took them an hour to get our drinks to us. We finally placed our food orders 45 minutes into our time there, and were told 10 minutes after that that our food would not be ready for an hour. The staff and manager were rude, and thought that it was acceptable to have people wait that long for food. There was never an apology for their poor service, just excuses. They were not that busy either...many empty tables in sight. Food came back good for most with an exception of one of us that ordered the fillet minogn, that came to her rare 3 times when it was ordered medium well...the third time the manager brought it back to the table was actually after we recieved our checks to pay! So 2 hours into this event they were still scrambeling trying to bring food to us and they wanted her to pay the full $31 for a meal served 1 hour after it was ordered when we were getting ready to leave. Above that I found the martinis to be over priced and not good at all at $11 a piece. The manager regularly rolled her eyes at our party throughout the evening. Very poor service at a very high price. On the flip side, the place was beautiful inside with a live person playing piano and singing for dinner music. My food was fantastic... This place has great potential, but I think new staff is in order to bring it up to where it should be. read more

Stopped in here for a drink on Saturday afternoon. Had a nice stout that came from Bent River Brewing over in Moline. Great beer. Really want to get back here again and have dinner some night. I have been here twice and I enjoyed it each. To be perfectly honest, we found this place when Woodfire was too busy. It was right next door and to be more honest, I like the food, service, and building better than Woodfire. The food is good and the price is not inflated like Woodfire. You are getting good food for a good price. The beer is great too! This was the first place I had an Uncommon Stout and it has left a lasting impression. I would recommend this place over Woodfire if someone was new to town and looking for a good restaurant with a good atmosphere. read more

Our group of 10 was actually headed to another restaurant that was closed on Monday evening....then we were headed back to our hotel and we passed The Phoenix....what a great meal...The bartender/waitress was Kelly and she was great. Not only did she mix a great Manhattan but suggested some food items as well, My Top Sirloin was fantastic, the pork steak that the other members of our group ordered was great too. The others sang high praises for the rib eye....the homemade cheesecake was a hit and so was the coffee that went with it...You can't go wrong here folks!!!!!! read more

I have been here twice and had a great experience on each occasion. Both times I was in a party of four people. We were seated promptly. The restaurant is in an older brick building. It still has the original decorative tin plate ceiling. The overall décor is subdued but clean and coordinated. There is a piano in the dining area but it was not played during either of my visits. The drinks are creative in both content and presentation. The flavors are good and it appears that seasonal specialty drinks are offered. A nice selection of wines is available as well. Some early reviewers were dissatisfied with the speed of the service. My view is that this is an upscale dining experience where people can have a leisurely meal with conversation. If you are looking for a quick bite on the run you may want to consider a fast food restaurant. We had the same waitress on both visits. She was attentive, but not intrusive. The water glasses never went empty. Other refills were offered when appropriate. I plan to be a repeat customer. If you dine here I hope your experience is equal to mine. read more

Went there for dinner with a group of friends and the service we had was not very good. It clearly was not busy as we were the largest and one of the handful of tables there. Never asked us for drinks or really acknowledged out attempt to put in drink orders and would walk away. This was relatively consistent throughout the night. Forgot to put in my order of a glass of wine, didn't ask the table if they wanted anything, just took one persons drink order then walked away. Once we got the food, my steak was actually pretty decent but the vegetables were a sad attempt. My girlfriends soup was barely luke warm and not that appetizing. I gave it a 2 because I would never care to return there and my friends 2nd attempt and said it was bad the first time. I was not happy that they automatically added a $10 tip since there was 9 of us, but the tip wasn't justified by our experience. Great service would warrant $15+ tip, but in this case little to no tip was justified. The two bartenders however were fairly attentive and made a decent old fashioned. However there were a number of glasses from previous customers that were sitting there for almost 30min before they were moved away from us. For as little number of people that were there, they didn't keep the bar top that clean. That was a turnoff. read more

We started off with the bruschetta for an app and it wasn't good at all. Then I ordered the filet medium rare but it was medium well when I got it and basically inedible. Went for lunch on a Thursday. The waiter was disinterested, snarky and slow. When I found no cheese in my wrap and asked him, "isn't there supposed to be smoked cheese in this?" he shrugged, said "I have no idea," and took it back to the kitchen. He returned with a new one --- but that one had no cheese either! My friend's Caesar salad was a bowl of lettuce, no croutons or Parmesan. This place deserves all the stars I can give it. We had our wedding and reception here after a double booking at another place...we had 3 days to find place for our wedding and get everything set up. Thanks to Erin, the event coordinator at the Phoenix, we had the a beautiful wedding and fun reception as if it had been planned months in advance. We recommend to anyone that Erin knows what she's doing. We found this place Thursday morning and by Saturday night, thanks to Erin and my family, turned a catastrophe into an incredible event. After driving by this place for the last year or two and never trying it, I went in with my girlfriend Saturday evening. Definitely a pleasant surprise, as I felt I was taking a bit of a gamble on this place. Having not heard a lot about it around town, and one comment I had heard was that it was more of a martini bar. But I had gotten on their website and checked out their menu and decided to give it a shot for date night. I was definitely glad to have done so! Honestly, I was a little mad I had never been here before. The architecture of the building is great, early 1900's but with modern updates. They had a huge signature martini selection, as well as an impressive wine selection. You even got the chance to see their large wine selection, which takes up an entire side wall of the bar. The price range for items, was a little high, but for the quality that we got on beverages, appetizer (the smoked bruschetta) , and the Black and Bleu Filet Mignon and the Stuffed Pesto Chicken were out of this world and I had no problem with paying the bill. Our server was friendly and attentive, but not overwhelming. He offered some great choices, which we ended up selecting. Even though he told us he was relatively new (I think his name was Alex or Allen) he was very knowledgeable and even explained some unique offerings of the restaurant. We will definitely be coming back here time and time again, and look forward to the same great service and dining experience!!!! read more

To start, I asked a friend for a recommendation on a place to get something "light" to eat and a few drinks that hopefully wouldn't break the bank. This was a Friday night and he came up with....The Phoenix. Said he was always treated well and the food was top notch. Well....... Upon arrival I was promptly shown to a table...right next to what I could only assume were very large Russian mail-order brides and very desperate, hungry men. All were very loud, not like there were no empty tables that I could have been seated at. This seems to be my lot in life. If I thought a waiter would approach to take my drink order, I was delusional. The desperate men approached first, in point of fact it took a waiter 28 minutes to wait on me. Silently I told myself I would wait no more than 30 minutes. Did I get a free drink for the social phew-phau of the night???NO, I say. I must have forgotten and left my Klingon Cloaking devise turned on. Finally, after having placed my drink order, one Chilled Vodka straight up with 3 olives on the side, I was feeling a little more confidently about the out look of rest of the meal.Well... Said drink arrived...room temperature with 3 olives floating on top. HELLO WAITER! What part of the order was too complicated for you to comply with? Offending drink left on table as he attempted one more time...SUCCESS!!! Now let's see how my appetizer goes.I ordered the Calamari with two different dipping sauces. One was a red sauce with some heat to it. The other was a type of white sauce on the order of a ranch that was very pleasant at putting out fires. The presentation of the dish was charming but a bit alarming. There was so much Calamari! A huge bowl overflowing with large solid pieces of perfectly battered and fried calamari. Yum, meow! My friend who was apologizing through this whole event via text had arrived and we were going to enjoy an adult beverage together. But first I wanted to settle my tab. When it arrived they were going to charge me for that first drink that was all messed up and I did not drink. I called them over and said, "Are you kidding me? Really?" All in all My opinion of "The Phoenix" is rather mixed...The wait staff was the worst ever. I thought I might be on an episode of Punked but no such luck. Ordered the teriyaki chicken slaw salad. Specifically asked if it would have peppers in it and was told it did not. The menu did not list them as an ingredient. It did and I have food allergies. We'd ordered the artichoke spinach dip as an appetizer only to find peppers in it as well. This was not spelled out on the menu either. I don't know if we'll be back. If so, I will be sure to say "no peppers" to everything I order. P.S. dress warm for eating here in the winter. The bathrooms in the basement were about 15 degrees warmer. I like going to this place because it is one of the nicer places is town. Its a nice and usually fun place to go to with good food and drinks. The only HUGE drawback is that the woman owner (or at least I think she is the owner) is a really nasty old woman. She thinks that yelling at customers and telling them what to do is okay. It is such a huge turnoff and makes me not want to bring any business there. I had a table of over 15 people and the drinks were taking forever so we decided to go right up to the bar and get shots and maybe order a drink, and as soon as we got up there she yelled at us to go back to our table. That is not OK. Learn how to be nice to customers because they are always right if you have never heard that saying before :) read more

Gave this place 3 tries and I'm sad to say that they failed to deliver each time. I will not be going back!! The food came out cold after we waited forever for it to come out. The wait staff has no clue what's going on. The place looks really modern and there is some potential there. The place did seem to get smokey at times, possibly cause the kitchen is open to the dining area. The Phoenix burger is a joke, it is said to be a 8 oz stuffed burger, when it came out it was more like a slider!! Maybe if they get new management and can get the product to your table in a timely manner and it not be cold we may try again. Until then I suggest you pass this place up!! read more

Atmosphere was great. Menu looked spectacular, however we didn't get to try any food as we sat there for an hour without getting our salads or appetizers. Waiter was very flustered. Made the comment that it was too busy. Mumbled a cuss word under his breath that only I and my sister heard, thank god my two nephews did not. We had even called in advance to make sure they had room for us (group of 6) they said they did and to come right over. We got our own drinks at the bar, paid for them, and then left. Other tables were also complaining about not getting their food in a timely manner and threatening to leave. We will not be returning. read more

I went there last weekend for the beginning of a birthday party. There were nine of us and we weren't impressed. The biggest issue was the food. Of the nine, I know of four meals that were prepared incorrectly. One steak was ordered medium rare and served well done. Three people had burgers that were also incorrectly prepared. The lack of caring by the server topped off the frustration of some of the folks. I guess, since there were nine people, she was getting a tip either way, right? We definitely won't be back. Boyfriend and I went there on Friday 3/3/17 for their dinner specials. Unfortunately, the two items that we were interested in and listed on their special menu on website were not on the list when we arrived (felt like bait and switch). They were not busy, we had reservations and still had to wait for our table. Our server was not good, no other way to put it (maybe a another field). Never mentioned the specials, was very poor at taking our orders, serving our drinks...etc. We did order two of the specials listed which consisted of a salad, main meal and dessert. She forgot one of the salads completely and when we mentioned it, she said we hadn't ordered it (again we had the "specials" it was included ). Food took OVER AN HOUR and FIFITEEN MINUTES to be served (again we ordered a "special" figuring that would be easy and available). Not a word from our server as to the delay, IT'S almost ready, sorry we are short staffed....NADA. When food finally arrived it was okay, not hot, not cold. Server really gave up on us, she was amazing to the table in front and behind us and they came after...go figure. The dessert, ahhh. We got it to go. I had no idea a slice of cheesecake could be so small. I laughed when I got home and opened the box. Sorry Phoenix, you could have made a little effort to make a nice dinner for a couple spending $75. We won't be back. read more

One of our favorite places. The food is great, the staff attentive and unobtrusive. Took us about 1hr15m to get through appetizer, dinner and dessert. The cheesecakes are made inhouse and are divine! (Try a slice with a glass of Gerwurztraminer wine!) It was a nice paced, romantic dinner. Love the decor, too. Sit in the back tier, if you can, and watch the open kitchen operate. read more

Went to The Phoenix last night to use a gift card we'd been given and we were extremely disappointed. The service was terrible - we were sat all the way in the back of the restaurant and waited way too long for even our initial greeting and waters. Anything we asked for, we had to ask for twice or remind our waiter what the order was. The pasta dishes we ordered were made with way too much oil and really not that flavorful, and another person at our table ordered salmon and said it was literally coated in butter. The drinks were over priced ($10 for a martini) also. I can say for sure that I will not return to The Phoenix again. read more

Went to The Phoenix with my wife and another couple. It was a Friday night and steady pace, I would not consider them to be busy however. We were greeted at the dor right away and seated quickly. Our waiter was very prompt and accurate. We each had something from different parts of the menu. I had the orange glazed chicken marsala. My wife had a vermouth shrimp dish, and the other couple had the Phoenix burger and an alfredo dish. All were great and well cooked. We even ordered spinach and artichoke dip appetizer and it came out with bread and not chips. My wife is allergic to bread so we asked for some chips. They did not have any, BUT the waiter made the kitchen make fresh chips. YES, they took the time to cut up a potatoe and fry it for her. I know it seems like a small feat, but i was thankful they took the time to do it. Service from the bar was quick. Prices weren't too bad. Very clean dining area and restrooms. Overall, I would recommend someone to try and will most likely be back. read more

This is in response to "Tiffany S" review...........this review is so far from the truth! I usually don't get involved in this petty stuff, but this is outrageous. My husband and I got there for our reservation at 7:00 and were promptly seated in a very busy restaurant. A large party next to our table got up and it was quickly cleaned for another party that was sat at 7:35. We noticed several gals "trickling in"....the complete party didn't arrive til around 8:15. The waitress was busy running back and forth to the bar for separate drink orders. (If your reservation was at 7:30, be there at 7:30....that way your server doesn't have to make multiple trips to get your drinks, time wasted) After the server took the food order, one of the girls said they had to be out of there by 9:00 and proceeded to be very snotty about it. The server went and asked her manager for help. When the manager came to the table, she was greeted with attitude and rude comments. She told the table she would check with the chef and see how their order could be expedited. The manager came back to the table and reported the chef will be as quick as possible, 20-30 minutes for their 14 entrees. Note, the restaurant was FULL. Their dinners were delivered in 25 minutes. I did notice there was a problem with a steak entree not cooked correctly which was sent back to the kitchen twice........that entree was taken completely off the gals ticket. And the comment about waiting 2 hours for food, evidently you can't tell time. You left at 9:15 and my husband and got to enjoy what was left of our evening without your drama! (oh and by the way, I'm sure you didn't hear your friends apologized to the server for your behavior) read more
