Do not buy any animals from here. There are signs on the glass saying not to take pictures of the animals, and there's a reason for that--they're all horribly mistreated. Not only do they cost hundreds of dollars whereas getting one from a shelter is half that, but the dogs here clearly look miserable. There is also a sign saying to "Stand up for your store" giving bogus facts about how much better their animals are and how awful shelter animals are. Any person who knows animals at all will tell you other wise. There are ALWAYS healthy dogs in shelters looking for good homes. If you must get a special breed, then research the breeder before shelling out this kind of cash. Places like this make me sick. read more

Not only do they sell sick puppies but they sell you the wrong breed. After doing a DNA on my puppy it was discovered she wasn't a MORKIE, in fact there was no maltese in her whatsoever. They couldn't even locate the breeder the dog came from...that's how well they know their breeders. Lesson learned...never again! Rescue is the way to go! read more

Dear readers to those who are looking to purchase a dog at Pet Zone and Poughkeepsie as far as my experience I have to say we are very disappointed I went in there thinking I was purchasing a toy poodle suspicious once the puppy grew double the size I went and had a DNA done on my puppy to find out it's not a toy poodle Seven months later I'm still going back-and-forth with Miss Megan the store manager who seems to never be at the store when I call know that she tends to return my calls that is not the way to treat a customer she has very poor management skills beware when purchasing your puppy at this place till this day I'm still trying to clarify and get a refund read more

Seeing the poor, helpless innocent dogs stuck in wire cages alone with no interaction makes me wanna cry. The employees here don't give a shit about the dogs, who knows what they do to them. About 2 years ago, I went in to see the dogs they have in the play pen. There was one dumb employee who moved the wire play pen, and the poor puppies paw was caught on the bottom and he was shrieking and the employee kept on moving it without any regard for the dogs pain. That was the last time I went in that horrendous store. I abhor this place as an animal lover, and you should too. Dogs are obviously from puppy mills. DO NOT BUY A DOG FROM HERE, MY DOG HAD PARVOVIRUS I bought a puppy from The Pet Zone in the afternoon of Tuesday February 15th, 2022. We were guaranteed that she was very healthy and that she was checked by a vet. That same night we started to notice her breathing was very fast and inconsistent. Her first full day home she was somewhat active but started to develop a cough. Later on in the night that cough became into her throw up bile and coughing everytime she started moving around. We took her to the vet Thursday afternoon and they ended up telling us that she had KENNEL COUGH, which developed into PNEUMONIA. She was put on antibiotics and by Sunday she was extremely lethargic, not eating or drinking water, and was having a hard time breathing. We took her to the emergency vet and the told us that she had PARVOVIRUS. The Pet Zone is not living up to the contract and do not want to take responsibility. read more

Price gouging at it's finest! Before the pandemic, their prices were about $2400 for a puppy. When asked about the price, they immediately offered $200 off. They knew the prices were high. NOW...since re-opening, they are claiming "breeders raised their prices" and are pricing their pups at $4200!!!!!! Insane!!! Breeders did NOT raise their prices. This is Pet Zone trying to gouge the consumer to make up for the time they were closed! If you must buy a dog, instead of rescue one, go to Greenfield Puppies instead. I entered to see what products they had for pets I thought it was just a new pet store to purchase products. I was wrong...... I was horrified and saddened by the deplorable conditions the puppies were in. As soon as I entered there was a puppy (Pomeranian) running around in an octagon cage in the center of the store with people coming up to him and putting their hands in his mouth. (Covid-19 affects dogs too!). This was pretty bad already and the young lady at the register was just talking across the room to the customer about pricing without any regard for the safety of the puppy. She just yelled loudly laughing while on her cell phone that the puppy cost $5,000 dollars. The young lady asking about the puppy seemed concerned, as so was I at this point. Once I entered the store it didn't get any better, the puppies in cages had no beds or padding in the cages. I observed some of them had irritated eyes and seemed very lethargic. Some of the puppies were sleeping in their own food bowls. (The Big Red Flag) was all the signs posted near the cages stating that they wouldn't disclose any information on where the Puppies came from to customers until they are purchased. I am very familiar with this strategy, this means at the time of purchase they will give you obscured information that can't be traced "alleged confidentially agreements between breeders". This isn't true but it's in the contracts at the time of purchase. My spouse was pretty sad at this point thinking how can this be allowed here in this mall. I walked over to an area that had two half doors that were about 3 feet in height with two rooms in the back, a very fearful Maltese kept clawing and crying to get out from a small cracked space under the door where he was placed like a toy to have customers come in and play with, without any water, food, bedding, toys, or sanitary wee puppy pads. This was beyond heartbreaking but I needed to see the room next to the Maltese. The second room was just as deplorable and heartbreaking, with a small puppy, a White Highland Terrier puppy crying and jumping in his own feces and urine. I teared up at this point and told the young lady in the front that was so busy on her cell phone to help the puppies jumping in their feces and urine, please. I exited the store with tears and a broken heart so did my spouse but we vowed not to let them get away with this. People need to know the horror these poor puppies are enduring please don't shop here! report them! read more

I will never get a puppy from this place again. I learned that they get their puppies from this puppy mill called Prairie Lane Kennel. It's run by Donna and Dennis Van Wyk. My puppy had kennel cough and giardia when we first got him. We had to spend thousands of dollars on medical expenses. He is happy and healthy now, but he could have died. This store is no different than all the other pet stores out there. ALL of them get their animals from mills and The Pet Zone is no different. They plaster propaganda around the store asking you to believe they are different, but if you dig deeper you will find that it's just that... propaganda. In addition, the prices they are asking for dogs are ridiculously high. For instance, we were quoted $1500 for a Bichon. $1500 is getting near the high side for a high quality Bichon worthy of show or breeding. You ARE NOT going to get a dog of this quality from a pet store. My girlfriend and I just bought our puppy from here and we absolutely love him. Everyone in that store was extremely helpful but I specifically wanna point out that the guy named Eddie was awesome. My wife and I were in the mall and are in the market for a dog so, we stopped in this store just to take a look. There was a very cute dog we were interested in and wanted to see. The girls at the counter told me the dog was new and wasn't allowed out of his cage until after the weekend. Something didn't sound right about this so we left. While still in the mall, I had my wife call and ask about the dog as if we were a different couple. They said we could see the dog no problem and to come on in. They were obviously making assumptions based on our age (I'm 29 not 15). The dog was also listed as triple the price I have seen recommended online which is absurd. As others have said, lazy and judgemental employees as well as overpriced dogs. I will not be going back here again! read more

I just got home from the pet zone store. My daughter wanted a puppy and wanted to play with it first before committing. We were looking at all of them for about 40 minutes, when I heard one of the workers answer someone else's question about how often the puppies get to be taken outside for play at which the worker said "every 20 minutes ", I knew she was lying because I had been there and none of the puppies had been outside to be played with. I made a comment about one of the puppies that seemed not well and the worker said the puppy was fine. I proceeded to go to the cash register and ask if my daughter could play with the puppy we wanted and the worker said the puppy was tired because it had just been outside. I asked - how long it has been since she put the puppy back on the crate, she said - 10 minutes ago. I said I have been here now for almost an hour at which she continued to decline my family to spend time with the dog. She said they don't lie and showed me a white sheet with the times they take to puppies out. I was extremely offended, and outrage at the lies she told and questioned my truthfulness. I was there for about an hour and no puppies were taken outside. Stay away from this place, now reading all the reviews I am glad I didn't purchase the dog. do not buy a dog from herefor starters there prices are extremely high. My family and I bought a supposed to be Victorian bulldog and turns out it was just a bulldog. As if that wasn't good enough her birth certificate was fake oh and it doesn't end there so we bought our puppy and she had a hypoplastic trachea and the poor puppy couldn't breathe she was constantly gagging for the week we had her we tried everything in the book to help her it just didn't work out and we took her to the vet and they wanted 7,000 to admit her to the hospital and it is winter and we don't have that kind of money so we called the pet zone and told them about what the vet said and they said bring her in to our vet and so we was on our way to there vet and we made it 30 minutes down the road then they call us back and say oh our vet is on vacation and he will be back in 5 days so that's when we took her back home and the puppy was soo bad so we took her back to them and they did refund us our money but my whole family was attached and my six year old sister was balling out in tears and so was I and my 2 year old sister was soo sad. So I do not recommend purchasing a puppy from here and if I could give a 0 star I would. read more

I've purchased 2 puppies from here. The first was a Chihuahua for my mom 5 years ago and he is the best. My second was 3 months ago. A Shiba Inu named Scotch. He has been a perfect puppy. I was amazed to discover that he already knew several commands when I brought him home. I didn't realize until my visit to the store today that they actually give all the puppies training sessions throughout the day. I'll admit that I was very impressed with the staff. Being skeptical of the controversy surrounding pet stores, I decided to give The Pet Zone the benefit of the doubt after reading their "promise" online: "The Pet Zone in NO WAY supports illegal kennels or those with a history of failing USDA standards and inspections." Upon entering the store, the location was clean and the staff pleasant. The dogs, as expected, were adorable and *most* seemed to be cared for. There was one in particular who did not seem well... Not being aware of the deceitful lingo often used, their method of choosing breeders/puppies sounded fair and just. However, I decided to take the name of two of the breeders (which they willingly provided) and do some research prior to committing to make a puppy purchase. The results were horrific. Both breeders were repeatedly in violation of USDA laws and both were clearly "puppy mills" with the number of dogs present in the 200+ range. Reading the reports of neglect, abuse, living conditions, etc. made me feel ill... I had often heard of the horror surrounding puppy mills, but I would have never expected the horror I stumbled across. BEFORE making any purchase, I HIGHLY urge taking 5 minutes and just research where your puppy is coming from. Several of the reports I read clearly stated that puppies had been exposed to the ill dogs (as they are in closed confined spaces) and were also at risk of catching diseases/infections/etc... Going into this store hurts my heart. Today it hurt the most. A friend and I walked into the store to notice that the workers were just standing at the front desk or leaning on the desk. And when we asked if we could take out one of the dogs she proceeded to tell us "they were out all morning so if you are not actually interested in buying the dog come back in a half hour." By observing the dogs we noticed many of them looked like they had not been out in a while and we were in the store for a good 10-20 mins looking at the dogs. During that duration of time none of the dogs had come out or had been put back in. We also noticed the dogs scratching to get out of the cage, shaking, or screeching. Forcing those dogs to be locked up in the cages and having the workers not allowing them to come out when they obviously have not been out in quite some time is just cruel to do to an animal. read more

I don't understand all the negative reviews. If you don't want to purchase a puppy from a pet store don't comment. Pet Zone is one of the cleanest most sanitary pet stores I have ever seen!!! I have two dogs from there and they are the best dogs I've ever had!!!! The employees all seem to be dog lovers and provide the best care I have ever seen from a pet store. The cleanliness is a big piece and it never smells like some pet stores I've been to. I've done the research and most of the puppies come from reputable breeders. All the puppy mill comments are unnecessary. If you don't want a dog from a pet shop this is not the place to make a comment. Adopt if you want to adopt of course but you're still going to pay a lot of money after vaccinations, fixing your pet, microchip, etc. Pet Zone provided a lot of that with the cost in my experience. My dog was already neutered which was a plus. I highly recommend PET ZONE!!! read more

I purchased a puppy from this pet store a few weeks ago. I brought him to the vet he had Giardia and an Upper Respiratory Infection. I also had to treat my other dog that I have at home for Giardia which cost me even more money. I contacted the store they said to contact the warranty department to get reimbursed but I would not be reimbursed for my other dog. I contacted the district manager he never got back to me. I looked up their so-called breeder that he is from and it is a puppy mill. Do not buy puppies from this store They are from a puppy mill and they come sick. I grew up on a farm with show horses, lots of purebred dogs, a few barn cats, beef cows and pigs. As an adult I trained and showed horses and bred and showed purebred dogs for many years. I have purchased AKC dogs directly from dog breeders and a total of 5 dogs from Pet Zone, with 2 or more years between each Pet Zone dog l purchased. The last dog l purchased at a premium price from a nationally recognized dog breeder, had lifelong skin and digestive allergies, and the breeder who sold the dog as show quality, reversed her opinion a year after l purchased, refusing to give me the AKC papers So l couldn't show the dog. This is just one example of my experience with dog breeders who can be both unethical and difficult to deal with. The 5 dogs l purchased from Pet Zone have ALL been healthy dogs, and all were registered with AKC after purchase. I understand that farming dogs (puppy mills) is controversial, but in my experience, there is less in-breeding (line-breeding) with dog farms vs. the dog breeders l have purchased from, resulting in healthier dogs coming from dog farms. l prefer to own purebred dogs, and my experience with the 5 beautiful purebred dogs l purchased from Pet Zone over the years, has been nothing short of exceptional. read more

Seriously? I came here wanting a pet. Never had a dog in my life and me and my husband wanted one for our family. Bonded with a morkie and was able to purchase him for $1500. I had to buy a cage, food, and dog toys. They have a credit loan company which I got approved for so we did that. Anyways, my dog was 4 lbs! I thought it was normal but she wasn't eating! Basically they sold me a sick dog. We had to take her to the doctor and they claimed she was unfit so they took her away from us. The dog had been sick and wasn't eating, once she turned 4 lbs then they put her up for sale knowing she was still sick, and someone like me bought the dog not knowing her medical history. Even though I loved that dog so much for the 3 days that I had her, I was very upset my this whole experience. Selling sick dogs is not something to be proud of. Throughout the time I had her I thought she was a very mellow dog, never knew she could be sick. She had a hard time eating, she had no energy, other times she would sleep and I didn't know it was from exhaustion and lack of food. We bought over $100 worth of food and she didn't eat one thing. When we went to the vet, the vet gave her cat food which she actually ate. She ate it because it was more wet, and some other scent in it that doctors use to make sick dogs eat. Also she lost 1 lb while we had her as she had such a hard time eating when she was with us. The doctor claimed her unfit and that was it, we had he choice of re buying her again but someone had already bought her by the time we went to visit her again. The place may look clean, but I went and visited the sick dog they they gave me 2 weeks later before she was sold and she had a dirty butt, it looked like there was old poop hanging from her butt and she didn't seem to have been brushed, bathed, or cleaned since I had her two weeks ago. The only thing I'm happy is that we got a full refund when I had to returned the dog. Except for the cage and toys. The whole experience was very heart breaking and because of this I will never be purchasing a dog again. Maybe later in life I'll adopt one. read more

Me and my 3 small children are planning on adding an edition to our family, we went to see the puppies and then picked a puppy.They told us that it wasn't his turn to play and then told us which we could take out. Now the sign on the outside of this poor things 2x2 ft cage was I love Kids!! They took my license, briefly looked at it handed it back and had us wait ( the 4 of us) I a 4x4 ft room. The puppy was so terrified for the first 3 of the 10 minutes it ran around to each one of us biting an attacking us.i had to call the girl over to get the dog back and I told her what happened, she says oh no he didn't bite any of you he's just teething.excuse me ,I know the difference between playful teething and a viscious and scared animal who is attacking out of fear.these poor dogs only get taken out for 10 min a day. The employees are lazy liars. And the place should be shut down. Those poor puppies, I pray someone else's children do not end up bitten or attacked due to other people's neglect and abuse of an animal.We will stay far away from this place to buy a puppy. Our family had been hoping to find a puppy for a long time. We had looked through shelters and other pet adoption organizations with no luck. (Many of the dogs couldn't be in a home with children or other pets, and there were little to no puppies.) We had gotten the idea through reviews that The Pet Zone would be a horrible place to go...surely all of the puppies were from puppy mills! Also from what we had read the staff was abusive and the dogs were all sick and dirty. We did as much research as we could on The Pet Zone, and finally went against the Internet reviews and advice to check it out. And I want to say, if The Pet Zone was dirty and the dogs were all sick, and the staff not very nice, that was in the past. We walked in there and were helped out immediately. The staff even gave me personal recommendations on which puppies would be great for my family. They seemed to have great knowledge about what the puppies were like. There were a few puppies that were brand new and they were sure to point out that they were not familiar with them, but that we could definitely meet them. All the cages looked clean. And there was one worker who was actually in a large cage scrubbing it well. The dogs were given exercise time while we were there. There were two separate pen areas that the dogs were running around in. They seemed to move them from pen to cage in an orderly manner, so all dogs were able to play and move and jump around. At one point a puppy was crying in one, and a worker picked her up and held her like a baby, petting her and rocking her. When a puppy made a mess on the floor, a worker immediately stopped what she was doing and ran over to mop it up. They spent time with me helping us pick out a beautiful little Zuchon and let my children spend time with her to make the best decision. Everything about the payment plan was explained to me. It was very fast to apply and get approved. I was told within minutes. My puppy was given a lot of paperwork with all of her medical records. She had been checked out by a vet that day! She was up to date on all of her shots. She was clean and spunky! They gave me all of her breeder information and even her family tree! I was able to go online and verify that her breeder had a face and she was not from a puppy mill! If you take your puppy to your vet within 3 days for a check up, you are guaranteed a year of medical if your puppy develops a congenital problem. 6 months if you do not take your puppy to the vet within 3 days. So far, my puppy has been healthy and happy. She is 4 months old today. We love our Zoe, and even found out from her family tree that her great grandmother was also named Zoe! We would recommend this pet store! read more

Everything about this place is just a nightmare with a pretty face. The staff are horribly rude and nasty unless you have your wallet out. I had already put a deposit on a dog that hadn't even arrived yet and when I called to ask questions they were rude until I mentioned the fact I had already put money down. Then they were my best friend. My dog came and of course I fell in love. But the second day home he became terribly ill. Not to mention he never even stayed in cage there. I got him off the dirty 18 wheeler. He didn't spend any time in the store at all. After at least 5 vet visits in 2 weeks he had pneumonia. I spent the first 2 months with my new puppy nursing him back to health. I researched the breeder that came on the paperwork and of course it was from a man who had been arrested and sued multiple times from a puppy mill in the Midwest. They give you a health guarantee to get ur money back you pay at the vet which was also a nightmare and took months. Oh and the dog I purchased ended up not even being the breed I paid for. I paid for a cavalier King Charles spaniel and received a Brittany spaniel. They told me no bigger than 12 pounds and he is now in wonderful shape at 30 pounds. read more
