We have patronized this place for years for both dogs and cats and now as "retired " people we realized that we still need paws in the house! We returned and found a wonderful dachshund and Pekingese! A side note; we had Pekingese for our children growing up because they are smart and loyal which is where I learned to love them. Finding them now was very difficult but P.W. found them! Our pups were healthy and up on "puppy shots " and seen by a familiar local vet. They were clean and happy and transitioned well to their new forever home. The staff has always been great and helpful. We have consistently referred people to P.W. and will continue to do so. read more

This store is a joke, especially after seeing that Facebook live from Ncbeat!! I've gone here over the years and have notice a serious decline in happiness and care of animals. Terrible advice overheard to unknowing customers when it comes to general knowledge, care and setup for most of the animals, let's push product before we push correct care procedures. The tall guy in fish when I happen to walk past always smells of cigarettes and weed, he somehow manages to be nasty with people while he asks if we need help when he doesn't even wear a company shirt, who can blame them for not wanting help from someone who looks like another customer it also doesn't make sense How can you be so nasty while high . I have pictures of birds, fish and so much more from my visits, I love the reptiles and birds so I have more pictures of them. It's a declining business and it shows by the overall care for these animals. More recently I've noticed Dirtier tanks, enclosures, cages & kennels. Not to mention the disgusting attitude from everyone. There are maybe two nice workers there, you have to be lucky when you visit to cross their paths. It's a fun place to look around without a doubt, When you're not getting shocked from metal shelves in reptiles or stray volts near fish tanks & manage to wear headphones to block out the disgusting tone from the unhappy staff. As an animal lover and collector I am continuously disappointed by the uneducated staff, lack of thoroughness with care and laziness from staff who never seem to be in their department. I remember, almost every visit talking to the little guy in reptiles and other customers always coming up to ask for help elsewhere in the store, only to see the rest of staff are up front laughing and joking. The experiences keep getting worse each visit, sadly this is the only store of its kind in jville. Take your family for a nice little indoor zoo, just do your best to not mirror their procedures when it comes to animal care. read more

AVOID THIS PLACE AT ALL COST!!!! Unless you have about $5000 in your wallet to purchase and then save your dying puppy, then DO NOT COME HERE. I was desperate for a furry friend and didn't want to wait up to a year for a golden retriever. All their puppies most likely come from puppy mills which results in temperament issues and birth defects. We bought our sweet golden retriever at a pricey cost. He seemed happy and healthy. We did everything by the book and and never missed a single vet appointment or vaccination. One day, Levi had trouble breathing and was vomiting constantly. Turns out, he was born with a diaphragmatic hernia. His stomach was slowly moving upwards to his lungs. My baby needed an oxygen mask to breathe. The procedure and hospital bill was very costly. We did everything we could to save him and luckily, he survived at a huge cost. Now I'm paying off $3000 in hospital bills. Based on past reviews, It seems my dog is not the only one who came home sick and this happens quite frequently with the puppies they sell. DO NOT BUY YOUR DOG HERE!!!! IT WILL COST YOU A FORTUNE IN THE LONG RUN! You all can thank me later. read more

This place is always so fun to visit! I love that they'll allow you to handle and pet the animals as long as you're 18+. The animals are pricey as they state they're micro chipped, vaccinated, and come with paperwork. It'll be the same price as going to an actual breeder; $3-5K I'm which case I'd do research and go to a breeder that does genetic and temperament testing. I personally like that employees aren't always talking to you/checking in. I often always see them talking amongst themselves unless someone needs help, my type of service! This place is always SUPER clean and very well organized! They even have exotic birds. Highly recommend coming here even if you don't plan to purchase, but to have fun and look around. read more

My previous review still stands: sick and overpriced animals and terrible, disrespectful employees. You have to wonder where these people received their training from, and then you see the way the business owner responds to customers such as myself who have spent hundreds of dollars in their store. I'd implore everyone to take a look at my original review, and then look at the response I was given (7 months later, by the way), and tell me if this seems like a responsible, clear headed business owner to you. It doesn't to me. read more

The Pet Warehouse - Cat with an eye infection possibly, charging over $120 for her - Pet Stores Near Me - Jacksonville, North Carolina

I cannot stand this place. I will drive out of my way just to pick up feeders for my reptiles elsewhere. My first experience with them, I bought two blood pythons from there while walking in with a friend. I did not go there with intentions to buy anything. I got very uncomfortable when witnessing the housing they provided and that they had multiple animals together in each area. Originally I just wanted to purchase one snake in order to make room in that enclosure for the second one and had no idea just how bad the lack of animal care was before purchasing. Blood pythons are not supposed to be housed together. They are solitary and non-social, and cohabitation can cause stress or competition for resources. As the reptile staff member retrieved the snake for me, he said "if you buy the second one with it we will give you 50٪ off because there is something wrong with it and it probably won't make it. It won't eat." I asked what their vet said the issue was and he gave me this expression like "you really think this place will take them to a vet?" The snake did look...off. I purchased them both and when taking them to the vet I was told the sick one was severely underfed and malnourished and didn't have the energy to eat. They also had mites. I had to hand feed that snake until it finally started eating on it's own and it would only eat if fed separately from the second snake (obviously), which the store did not do because they crammed them both together in a shoebox sized cage. If I didn't have the reptile experience or comfortability I had to feed by hand, the snake would have died so imagine if they had sold it to someone else. They did not even ask about my reptile handling experience or capabilities and were eager to sell to me, which was fine because I was eager to get them out of there. I called to inform them and as I was telling them what the vet said, the staff member on the phone cut me off and said "well we don't do refunds, you purchased as is." I was not even asking for a refund I was just informing them so they could improve the quality of care for the other snakes because it was very clear they do not provide vet care to any of them. Start asking for recent vet care records and you'll see. And not for their overpriced puppy mill dogs but for their reptiles that they purchase from local breeders. The vet told me they constantly see animals purchased there with preventable issues, and clients that weren't told about requirements for that specific animal. I also knew someone who bought a puppy as a staff member for a discounted rate and it died of having such bad parvovirus that when people found out the puppy died, they were all asking if it was purchased from Pet Warehouse. And by the way, they have rabbit water bottles in the dog cages (see photo). The staff member I knew said they do not take those animals out of their cages unless someone asks to see them and this causes a lot of behavioral issues if they are not bought young enough. I can't imagine the success of dog trainers in this area. They also pay their employees very little, like as close to bare minimum as possible and this causes a lack of willingness to proactively clean and maintain high levels of sterile environments. Please please please do not purchase from here. They are simply animal flippers. If you want a reptile, there are nearby reptile rescues such as Fresh Start Rescue who actually vet their animals and have reasonable adoption fees and I have adopted 4+ reptiles from them instead of even considering this place. There is a reason they have the reviews and comments turned OFF for their Facebook business page!!! read more

Wonderful selection of dogs and kitties and all furry critters! I had a quick question, I was petting one of the small grey kitties up for adoption today. I grabbed it out of the top right area both little grey ones were in, and it got scared and grabbed into my chest. Didn't hurt much, just a little spot from where the claw went in, what all shots do those little guys have just so I can have ease of mind? All I can find online is first round of shots and wanted to ask! Thanks so much for all that you guys do! Visit every year from Tennessee and love it every time! read more

Went to buy a puppy today and it wasn't until we were about to pay and reading policy fine print, they mention the dog had GIARDIA infection. Glad I could find a place that sells lafebers nutriberries multi packs for all sizes! Animals there are extremely overpriced, no details or credibility given on animals marked "registered", and the won't let you see any dogs/animals before you buy (which as someone who works in and around the vet field can tell you that's a solid way to cover up dogs with illness or injuries that they don't want you to know about), a lot of the dogs and cats there are listed as breeds they are very obviously not. Horrible past reviews from dogs bought from this location having serious health issues. DO NOT BUY FROM HERE. Also they have a huge sign about pet odors but it smells like they haven't cleaned the cages in a while in some parts of the store. Additionally, scrolling through previous reviews it definitely seems as if the manager only cares about customers who leave positive reviews, while the ones who critique get immaturely treated by the MANAGER. What a joke! Seems like they lost their professionalism with their credibility! read more

Purchased my ferret here about a month ago. It was an impulse buy. Should have done my research but I trusted the store associates to know what I should get for her. I bought the cage, hammock, litter box, litter, food bowl and water bottle they recommended. The food I had to buy with her. I also ended up getting an odor spritz for her as I've heard they have a certain scent to them. Well after positing a video of my recent purchase I had many people tell me the cage is too small for a ferret. The food is highly not recommended. The Marshall brand completely misinforms you on the proper care for a ferret. The odor items they have are not recommended because they make ferrets smell overtime. They sell shampoo and conditioners. While you shouldn't be bathing your ferret more than once a year due to natural oils. The items at this pet store are VERY expensive. I bought the cage for $200 and found the same one online for $100. Because I was misinformed at the time of purchase I'll be selling the cage and having to upgrade. read more

We went to this store and were shocked at what we found. On top of the appalling conditions all of the animals were in, the staff was incredibly rude and unhelpful. We were looking for items for our fat-tailed gecko and needed help with the reptile items. We were told by the manager that the person over reptiles wasn't in yet so there was no one who could help us. So only one person could answer any questions about items they carried for sale all the time for reptiles? We were specifically asking about a particular substrate they had, but only the "reptile guy" could help us. And the manager got more and more rude after we were just trying to clarify that no one was there who could help us with their products, not an actual living reptile, but products they carried. The Uromastyx they had (in the picture) is in astoundingly awful condition. He looks deflated and wrinkled. If you look at any pictures of what a Uromastyx should look like (I added a photo of a generic one) you'll see that they should be plump and smooth. He'd been obviously neglected and not taken care of. I'm afraid he died if someone didn't adopt him quickly or Fish and Wildlife didn't confiscate him. I did make a report to Fish and Wildlife who handle reptiles and birds in situations like this, they cover stores, not just wilderness issues. They were appalled by what I told them about the birds being in little cubbies where the birds could be poked at all day, with no actual perches as well. Perches should be up off the ground, not laying on it. Fish and Wildlife considered these emergency situations. If you want to report, google the number. For reporting the dogs and cats, look up Onslow County Dept of Agriculture. If you need help finding these numbers, please message me and I will help you or call the Onslow County Animal Control and they will get it for you. No animals should be treated like this. They had a pair of baby African Grey parrots who were huddled in a corner of a cubby and they were scared to death, trembling, shaking, and pressed together as far into the back corner together as they could get. That's not the behavior of hand fed babies. I know because I've hand fed African Greys myself and other parrots. They should be curious and lively. They lower than waist level boxes the 20+ birds are in, where people, including children can poke at them is a horrible, unsafe and unsanitary situation. Please, don't support this store. Don't support employees and management who treat people like they're just a hassle and an interruption to their lives. Buy whatever you need somewhere else. Tell these people you don't agree with what they're doing. Take a moment to report them to the proper authorities. You may remain anonymous if you wish. read more

The Pet Warehouse - Uromastyx at The Pet Warehouse, very malnourished and dehydrated. - Pet Stores Near Me - Jacksonville, North Carolina

I went to Pet Warehouse to choose a pet that would enrich my family, home, and lifestyle. After going to my veterinarian for Carter's first visit, he asked crucial questions about the size and health of the puppy's parents, etc... My pet was sick with an upper respiratory infection. I went back to Pet Warehouse and asked the manager if I could have the breeder's information and was told it was confidential. However, I should look for the name on the yellow receipt and research Facebook. Well, that idea was unsuccessful since I could not locate the breeder. Finally, I asked what goes into the price of the dogs they sell and was told the breed, vaccinations, vet examinations, profits, the breeder's fee, food, and other care provided. Before making the purchase, I asked the price and was told something different than what I was charged. After the time of purchase, I assumed the extra amount was additional charges. Still, when I spoke with the manager three months later, I was told, "It was a mistake, and she will talk with her girls about giving accurate information." By reading this post, I hope others will learn from my mistakes. read more

I have been here a couple times and have never had a good experience. The staff is incredibly rude and uncaring! There was a little kitten (over $2000) that is just sitting in the corner of his cage, non responsive and hardly moving. I asked two different staff members about this particular kitten and one told me he's probably "bored" and then told me it's probably because he's alone. Another staff when I asked told me it's new and scared and we couldn't hold it because they need to make sure it's eating first. The kitten was leaning over in an uncomfortable position, one of the arms was tucked in at a weird angle. My mom fixed the arm and the kitten didn't move or even acknowledge the fact we were moving its arm. This kitten needed help and everyone i asked practically ignored what I was pointing out. If I was the owner I would start on hiring better staff. Why work somewhere that involves customer service but yet lack it? I left the store crying from this poor kitten and the service i received from the staff put it over the top. Reading all the negative reviews made me feel a lot better to know i'm not the only one who thinks this! Please do better. read more

Okay so very mixed about this place. They take care of the puppies and do their best to keep things clean. Here's the downside. There are probably two nice people in this entire store, and it's the male employee and the female with the cool hair. I was able to adopt a puppy there with my husband, he had only been there for about 3 days. They convinced us that we needed to buy this big bag of puppy chow because "he was used to it"...? (This puppy chow led to dehydration and diarrhea within the next two weeks and we almost had to take him to the hospital because he was NOT used to it whatsoever) Also during the process, not to age shame, but the elder woman there was INCREDIBLY RUDE. Like we were trying to be patient with her, but dang she treated the puppy poorly and treated us like trash. She didn't even make eye contact with us. And only let us see the dog (We adopted) for about 5 min. I wish I was over exaggerating. read more

Went here earlier just to see the animals and they all look sickly! The puppies are sleeping on a hard metal cage with no comfort and they all look as if they are sickly or drugged. I have never seen a Labrador that was not happy and the one I saw looked miserable and sick. There was tanks on the ground that I easily could've put my hand in and taken a fish from. One dog was kept away from all the other dogs, couldn't tell you why but I think it was being punished for barking. There are rodents on shelves accessible to put my hands in and touch. There were live crickets just jumping around in a trash can. Some fish tanks were gross and looked rusted. There were workers giving me weird looks. Even one dog I saw I thought was dead. I definitely do not recommend purchasing or even visiting here. Would give 0 stars. Well just walked in and was about to buy some fish and the young girl with the long brown hair and nose piercing looked annoyed when I asked for help, rolled her eyes etc. I asked if it bothered her I asked for help because of her behavior and she just said "oh my God" and walked away. There were multiple employees standing there , one young lady just smiled and laughed , the older lady who usually handles the puppies just looked at me. It's a shame I was trying to give this place a chance despite the negative reviews about their employees and sadly apparently nothing has changed here. Edit::: In response to the managers response,I'm glad you have your employees backs, but the story you just told about your employees actions were not even close to the actual events. I would have been more then willing to overlook the childish behavior of your employees and considered it a bad day, but you posting a flat out lie about the event shows me that the management is the problem. Which is a problem for me. I am also very aware that employee conduct has been a problem for many years and perhaps you should reflect on how you handle these situations as the problem and not try and portray customers as unreasonable. read more

DO NOT SUPPORT PET STORES THAT SELL PUPPIES! I walked in and saw a whole room of puppies without blankets or anything to lay on except the metal cage. One of the puppies walking around kept having its paw slip through the holes. NOT OKAY. These puppies looked cold, scared and had nothing to play with or snuggle up with. They were either barking, shivering/shaking or sleeping. When I simply asked the lady working up front why they didn't have anything in the cage with them she got an attitude and said, that's the rules, shrugged her shoulders and told me "not to get fired up over it." I didn't say anything but she sure saw the look on my face about the condition the puppies were in. I've been to this pet store on multiple occasions and have never once had a positive experience with their staff. Place smells bad and there are flies because of the filth of too many rodents in too small of cages that need to be cleaned way more often. Even if you are just using the rodents as feeders, unhealthy feeders can make your animal sick. The dog and cat cages have entirely mesh bottoms except for plastic litter trays. The two kittens there were huddled in their dirty litter box. The poor chihuahuas were curled up and shaking in their boxes. They have birds in open top boxes with the perches laying on the ground so the ends if their wings are filthy and tattered if they can even perch at all. They do have supplies but buying supplies from them helps keep them in business and allows them to keep these animals in deplorable conditions. read more

We just purchased our golden here this past weekend and were told he was being medicated for a cold. After 3 heartbreaking days of him coughing nonstop, panting and shaking, we were able to get him to the vet and were able to find out his "cold" they stated he had, was actually a very severe case of kennel cough. I would not recommend purchasing a dog from here considering they were very negligent to his illness and wrote it off as a cold despite us finding out he was on medication prior to us purchasing him that is used to treat kennel cough and we were never made aware of that. They will not provide any assistance for you for kennel cough which is clearly stated in the papers we took home, but with kennel cough being highly contagious I wouldn't doubt the majority of the puppies here are also sick. I am severely disappointed. read more
