    Meet Peep!

I would've given it 5 stars but the smell is definitely an issue; however I bought my blue Quaker parrot from them and he came hand fed so he was already used to human interaction. People have never been rude to me so it's crazy to see all the "people are rude" reviews. I've never had a bad experience here.

Literally a photo from one of their positive Google reviews, a rabbit water bottle in a dog cage

I cannot stand this place. I will drive out of my way just to pick up feeders for my reptiles elsewhere. My first experience with them, I bought two blood pythons from there while walking in with a friend. I did not go there with intentions to buy anything. I got very uncomfortable when witnessing the housing they provided and that they had multiple animals together in each area. Originally I just wanted to purchase one snake in order to make room in that enclosure for the second one and had no idea just how bad the lack of animal care was before purchasing. Blood pythons are not supposed to be housed together. They are solitary and non-social, and cohabitation can cause stress or competition for resources. As the reptile staff member retrieved the snake for me, he said "if you buy the second one with it we will give you 50٪ off because there is something wrong with it and it probably won't make it. It won't eat." I asked what their vet said the issue was and he gave me this expression like "you really think this place will take them to a vet?" The snake did look...off. I purchased them both and when taking them to the vet I was told the sick one was severely underfed and malnourished and didn't have the energy to eat. They also had mites. I had to hand feed that snake until it finally started eating on it's own and it would only eat if fed separately from the second snake (obviously), which the store did not do because they crammed them both together in a shoebox sized cage. If I didn't have the reptile experience or comfortability I had to feed by hand, the snake would have died so imagine if they had sold it to someone else. They did not even ask about my reptile handling experience or capabilities and were eager to sell to me, which was fine because I was eager to get them out of there. I called to inform them and as I was telling them what the vet said, the staff member on the phone cut me off and said "well we don't do refunds, you purchased as is." I was not even asking for a refund I was just informing them so they could improve the quality of care for the other snakes because it was very clear they do not provide vet care to any of them. Start asking for recent vet care records and you'll see. And not for their overpriced puppy mill dogs but for their reptiles that they purchase from local breeders. The vet told me they constantly see animals purchased there with preventable issues, and clients that weren't told about requirements for that specific animal. I also knew someone who bought a puppy as a staff member for a discounted rate and it died of having such bad parvovirus that when people found out the puppy died, they were all asking if it was purchased from Pet Warehouse. And by the way, they have rabbit water bottles in the dog cages (see photo). The staff member I knew said they do not take those animals out of their cages unless someone asks to see them and this causes a lot of behavioral issues if they are not bought young enough. I can't imagine the success of dog trainers in this area. They also pay their employees very little, like as close to bare minimum as possible and this causes a lack of willingness to proactively clean and maintain high levels of sterile environments. Please please please do not purchase from here. They are simply animal flippers. If you want a reptile, there are nearby reptile rescues such as Fresh Start Rescue who actually vet their animals and have reasonable adoption fees and I have adopted 4+ reptiles from them instead of even considering this place. There is a reason they have the reviews and comments turned OFF for their Facebook business page!!!

Cat with an eye infection possibly, charging over $120 for her

My previous review still stands: sick and overpriced animals and terrible, disrespectful employees. You have to wonder where these people received their training from, and then you see the way the business owner responds to customers such as myself who have spent hundreds of dollars in their store. I'd implore everyone to take a look at my original review, and then look at the response I was given (7 months later, by the way), and tell me if this seems like a responsible, clear headed business owner to you. It doesn't to me.

This place is always so fun to visit! I love that they'll allow you to handle and pet the animals as long as you're 18+. The animals are pricey as they state they're micro chipped, vaccinated, and come with paperwork. It'll be the same price as going to an actual breeder; $3-5K I'm which case I'd do research and go to a breeder that does genetic and temperament testing. I personally like that employees aren't always talking to you/checking in. I often always see them talking amongst themselves unless someone needs help, my type of service! This place is always SUPER clean and very well organized! They even have exotic birds. Highly recommend coming here even if you don't plan to purchase, but to have fun and look around.

Just got my Baylee from here, super sweet workers. Was obsessed from the moment i walked in, thanks for helping me find my forever friend!

Uromastyx at The Pet Warehouse, very malnourished and dehydrated.

We went to this store and were shocked at what we found. On top of the appalling conditions all of the animals were in, the staff was incredibly rude and unhelpful. We were looking for items for our fat-tailed gecko and needed help with the reptile items. We were told by the manager that the person over reptiles wasn't in yet so there was no one who could help us. So only one person could answer any questions about items they carried for sale all the time for reptiles? We were specifically asking about a particular substrate they had, but only the "reptile guy" could help us. And the manager got more and more rude after we were just trying to clarify that no one was there who could help us with their products, not an actual living reptile, but products they carried. The Uromastyx they had (in the picture) is in astoundingly awful condition. He looks deflated and wrinkled. If you look at any pictures of what a Uromastyx should look like (I added a photo of a generic one) you'll see that they should be plump and smooth. He'd been obviously neglected and not taken care of. I'm afraid he died if someone didn't adopt him quickly or Fish and Wildlife didn't confiscate him. I did make a report to Fish and Wildlife who handle reptiles and birds in situations like this, they cover stores, not just wilderness issues. They were appalled by what I told them about the birds being in little cubbies where the birds could be poked at all day, with no actual perches as well. Perches should be up off the ground, not laying on it. Fish and Wildlife considered these emergency situations. If you want to report, google the number. For reporting the dogs and cats, look up Onslow County Dept of Agriculture. If you need help finding these numbers, please message me and I will help you or call the Onslow County Animal Control and they will get it for you. No animals should be treated like this. They had a pair of baby African Grey parrots who were huddled in a corner of a cubby and they were scared to death, trembling, shaking, and pressed together as far into the back corner together as they could get. That's not the behavior of hand fed babies. I know because I've hand fed African Greys myself and other parrots. They should be curious and lively. They lower than waist level boxes the 20+ birds are in, where people, including children can poke at them is a horrible, unsafe and unsanitary situation. Please, don't support this store. Don't support employees and management who treat people like they're just a hassle and an interruption to their lives. Buy whatever you need somewhere else. Tell these people you don't agree with what they're doing. Take a moment to report them to the proper authorities. You may remain anonymous if you wish.

We've even gone back to visit, and the Wilmington location has always been very welcoming. People who came back to visit, brought their previous puppies and even told us, we are coming back to get a second dog because we had a good experience. Recently, I stopped by the Jacksonville location to look at another Goldendoodle. I asked a few questions about the puppy, including the weight of the parents, whether the dog was F1 or F1B, and where the puppy was bred. One of the girls helping us was friendly and answered the questions. After finding out the puppy would likely be smaller than what we were hoping for, I told her that it probably wasn't the right fit for us. Because of that, I asked if we could look at a Labrador instead. At that point, another employee responded rather abruptly and said, "You have to be serious, if you're just here to play, you can only look at one." The comment felt unnecessary and a bit rude. I had asked detailed questions about the first dog because I was genuinely interested, but once I realized the expected adult weight didn't meet what we were looking for, I simply wanted to look at another option. I think it would have been much more appropriate for her to ask whether we were seriously looking to adopt a dog rather than immediately insinuating that we were just there to play with the puppies. The way it was said felt more like a jab than a policy explanation. It was disappointing because we had such a positive experience with the Wilmington location, I've also been to the Jacksonville location before, and they were very friendly and I expected a similar level of professionalism and friendliness. On top of visiting, we've gotten a dog already there and that shows that we are not only visitors, but we could've been second time customers.

Attached is a photo of the "Cavapoo" we adopted, alongside a Google image of a Yorkie Poo. I would give negative stars if possible.

So while on one of my many "research trips" to the Fish Cave, I met Erika (hope I spelt that right) and she was amazing. She took her time with me, walked around the store to explain things to me and really seemed to be engaged with making sure I got what I wanted. Fast forward to a couple weeks later I came back in and told her I found my perfect tank and I was ready to set it up. He response was "awesome let's do this"! Not sure who was more excited about this tank me or her! She helped me pick the right canister filter, sand and more importantly the rocks. She knew I was a hands on type of person so she told me to "pop a squat" and she brought out a box of rocks for me to situate on the floor so I can plan out my tank. This was by far one of the best shopping experiences I have ever had anywhere. Her ability to ensure I got what I needed, while also letting me be hands on and help me plan my tank was phenomenal! There were two other young ladies (one was pretty young, one had recently had a baby!!!! Congratulations!) at the registration who help me check out. Whether, it's a "research" trip, a quick serotonin lunch trip, or to buy freshwater fish for my two freshwater tanks every single time I stop in I receive top notch customer service! PetSmart Grooming Department Review:…read more We have a 10-month-old GSP. I've brought him in a few times in the past and have always had wonderful experiences. They told me he did amazing, and I left feeling confident and happy. Today was completely different. I booked with a groomer named Regina for a bath and brush with a nail grind add-on. We usually bathe him at home, but with the dry weather causing dandruff and a beach day full of sand, I decided to bring him in for a good cleaning. The appointment was supposed to be a 60-minute service. An hour and a half went by with no update. I called the grooming area and was told he was finishing kennel drying. I was extremely confused because I paid for the blower service. I asked if all his other services were done, and she confirmed yes -- he was just drying. I told her I would come in to get him, and I immediately felt off with the vibe on the phone. There was a little bit of pushback about me coming in while he was still drying. I paid at checkout and went back to get my dog. He was sitting there waiting. She asked if he looked good to me, and immediately I noticed a ton of shedding. I said out loud, "Wow, he must be stressed out given all this shedding," because this level of shedding only ever happens when we travel long distances. It has never happened with grooming before. It honestly looked like he wasn't brushed. She responded with, "He's definitely got GSP energy," completely straight-faced and without acknowledging what I said about him looking stressed or the excessive loose hair everywhere. As she was saying that, his back paw caught my eye. I focused on it and noticed the fur wasn't trimmed around the paw, and there was a red tint coming from his toe. I immediately knew it was blood. I looked at her and said, "Is that it?" She confirmed yes. I said thank you and walked out slightly upset with the lack of communication. I should have examined it right there, but I just wanted to get him outside because he was obviously distressed from the experience. Once I loaded him into the back of my car, I looked closer. His nail was still actively bleeding. This was over 30 minutes after the service had supposedly been completed while he was "drying." The quick was cut far back -- so far back that I could see the raw center inside of his nail. I felt awful. I trusted this groomer to take care of my dog, and that was not the case today. Nothing was said about the nail. Nothing was mentioned about how he did. No communication at all -- which is the complete opposite of every other experience I've had there. Accidents happen. I understand that. But not saying anything about it? Not acknowledging it? Letting me walk out without explaining that my dog's nail had been cut that far back and was bleeding? That is what upset me the most. The appointment ran late and was blamed on drying, but honestly it felt like they were waiting for the bleeding to stop so it would go unnoticed. I am extremely unhappy with this grooming session. I've had great experiences here before, but I do not recommend booking with Regina. The interaction felt cold, dismissive, and uncaring, and my dog left stressed and injured.
