I really enjoy this location because it's close and always feels huge. I came for Christmas presents for the dogs and saw so much more! I saw lizards and Guinea pigs and critters in cages! I needed dog pillows and big dog bones.. I managed to get what I came for but I got side tracked looking at other things like dog clothes! I have a German Shepard so it could only go large or close but not sure which so I left that alone. I could go nuts in here because they have so many things for your pets plus they have the cat rescue in the back where you can adopt a cat!! This place is great but dangerous for wallet!! read more

Do NOT buy fish here!! Recently they had a hold on selling fish claiming some sort of computer issue ( ????) When they started selling them again we bought some silver dollar fish for our 90 gallon tank, turns out they had Ick and a fungus. Everything in our tank is now infected and either dying or already dead. So after multiple attempts at clearing up the issue and using a quarantine tank, meds etc we are out 100.00s of dollars in fish. You would think a place like pet smart would sell healthy fish, but no... If your looking for fish make the trip to Big fish in Wilmington. The tanks are clean, fish are healthy and you won't go through what we are now going thru. Buyer Beware!!!!! read more

I went in to buy more fish as I was there last week to buy fish for another tank and to buy and set up my tank. Last week was great however today was very different. I spoke with a guy named "van" who informed me very rudely he was the manager of that department. First I told him I'd like to buy some fish and he asked if I brought a water sample in which I told him I did not but I had my tank set up for days and this was not my first time buying fish. He was very pushy about bringing a water sample in so I asked if I didn't bring one in would he not sell me fish. He said if I didn't bring one in they wouldn't replace my fish if it happened to die, I said ok. Then I started to tell him what fish I wanted and how many and he tells me "NO", that my fish won't survive having that many in the tank. The week just prior to this I spoke with the lady helping me and she said the max number she would recommend for that size tank and that's when he wanted to tell me how he was the manager of the department and he has the right to refuse me sale. I had my daughter with me today so I just said I'll keep my comment to myself since he was so rude telling me that, he then says " yea I'd suggest you do that". So I told him I would take my money somewhere else and asked for his name, he told me van and I left. This "manager" was extremely rude and did not want to help. Definitely needs training in customer service. I was not the only one he was rude to this day either. I will be going to the other location for any and all fish needs going forward. read more

DOG ABUSE!! My boyfriend took his 7 MONTH OLD PUPPY here to get groomed. He got a call an hour later saying that he needed to pick his puppy up because he had bit the groomer. When we asked why he had bit her, we were told it was because he was nervous and wasn't staying still so they had to "bop" him. Which then caused him to bite her. I could not believe he had bit somebody since he is not an aggressive puppy. If they feared he would bite they had the option to put a muzzle on him, which they chose not to do. We were handed our puppy back still wet and they still had us pay the full price of the grooming. Also, while we were there waiting for them to hand us our puppy, we watched as another groomer man-handled the dog he was grooming. He slammed the dogs behind on the grooming table and told it to "stop moving." Do not take your dog here to get groomed unless you want them mistreated. read more

I had an appointment for my dog the usual update on his shots under the Wellness programs. We got there on time and checked in, however the front desk area is simply chaos and unorganized. The ladies in the desk area did not appear to know who was next, going or coming which I found to be a bit off kilt. I have had the Wellness program for my dog since I've had him and the assistant was asking me all the questions regarding payment etc...I'm thinking do you realize I don't pay anything today due to the program I pay monthly for. It just seemed as though they didn't know what was going on which made it difficult. I'm giving 4 stars because I did like my dogs new Veterinarian. It will be hard to beat Virginia Beach Petsmart with Dr. Turner! I'm in high hopes when I return they'll be more organized and I'll update my review accordingly. read more

My friend brought it in and PetSmart said they would take it in until people from a program could come get it. I'm appreciative of how they responded to us and the kitten. Groomers don't know how to handle animals. Choked my dog out right in front of me, to the point her eyes were bloodshot red and then denied it when In presence of the manager. The building is dirty the staff is unfriendly, the groomers will choke your dog until he/she complies. Upon picking my dog up my response was 'she won't be coming back here anymore it's fine.' After watching the front desk employee of the grooming office, let my dog choke to the point her eyes were red and she was hacking and coughing on the gate and then watching the groomer, again, in the back of the grooming floor choking my dog. listening to my dog, wheeze and hack and cough I decided enough was enough. I took my dog to the car. Locked her inside turn the AC on and went back into exchange some words with the manager after telling the manager what I saw one of the employees said 'nobody choked your dog sir', to witch my response was 'I'm not talking to you I'm talking to the boss' this employee continued to make unprofessional remarks while standing behind the manager. Even going on to say 'nothing is going to change' I'm regards to my complaint. The manager could have cared less about anything I said as I suspected. Moral of the story the grooming staff could care less about any complaint or discrepancy. They could care less about the comfort or health of your animal. I thought that after hearing bad things about the grooms here, it was just one instance or two. But trust me. DO NOT TAKE YOUR ANIMAL HERE. As far as the pet smart itself. The staff is not polite at all. I won't be returning here ever again. I've been told this pet smart needed to be closed down and after today I believe it. read more

I hate this PetSmart with a passion. They should not be open. First issue was with the smell. Of course, pet shops have a smell, so you make peace with the fact that it's gonna smell like a barn inside and that you might smell like it when you leave. I'm fine with that. What I'm not fine with is that every time I've visited it has smelled like straight up HUMAN feces. Disgusting and I'm sure the source of the smell is extremely unhygienic. Second issue is with the pet adoptions. It was a cold day and they had those animals out! Some of the dogs had jackets or blankets over them, but not the cats! There was a pile of black kittens just shivering! It was 48F that day! When I asked why the need to keep them outside, all I got was "It'll warm up later." Okay, rude. Granted, it did warm up two hours later and half of the animal had been adopted, but you couldn't do this inside? Coldest day of the year and you have these poor animals outside. Wild. (I was told that the adoption people kind of just show up and the PetSmart staff doesn't have much control over how and when they set up. Sounds like a sack of turds to me. They're at the storefront, basically setting the tone for a potential shopper. They're the first and last people we interact with, so maybe care if someone's attitude and practices are making y'all look bad? Hmm? Also, at least three of the kittens had gunk in their eyes and were sneezing. Super lethargic. not energetic. Those cats are gonna be dead in a few months and will infect any other cat they come in contact with. Good job.) Third and last issue... All we wanted to do was look at some cats. I asked the two women who were supposedly "working" on the fish tanks if we could see them and they looked at each other. One finally said, "I'll do it," and helped me. Way to make the customer feel appreciated. Then she got a little pissy when I hadn't filled out an adoption application. Didn't know I was supposed to when all we wanted to do was go inside. And when I finished filling out the form, she looked at me and then back at her coworker who helped me instead. ??? I'm sorry for wasting your time by not adopting, but I have to see and get to know the cats first before I make a decision. And when we finally got inside, wouldn't open the cages. Thanks. It's about to be a new year. Do better. read more

Banfield pet hospital: We have used Banfield for a couple of years now but this was our first visit to the Jacksonville, NC one. The staff was very friendly but they were running 30 minutes behind which was annoying. They didn't let me know until I asked after 20 minutes. The vet and vet techs very polite and professional and addressed all of my concerns. We saw the Ortho vet and he was wonderful. Overall very happy with our visit minus being behind. read more

It's a pet supply store that allows folks to bring their pets along with them. The main benefit to this is increased entertainment levels if you are a people watcher like myself. Seriously, weekends are packed! But this is when you get to see the good stuff! Don't get me wrong, I'm also a customer. Petsmart carries many brands of dog and cat food. My dogs are easy to please. I'm a label reader and don't just give them crap because I kind of like them, but their brand is easily found at the big PM so I've got it in my bag before the first employee can even mouth the words "help you find anything". The cat side is far more entertaining anyways. I happen to have 4 of the saddest and pickiest rescue cats put on this planet. Thought must actually go into this process or I end up with stacks of unused cat food which I donate to shelters, which is how I end up with rescue animals in the first damn place. This is where PM comes in... The Selection!! But for some odd reason, reading a label on the cat food side does NOT attract employees, nope, I get the cat people! Did I mention the entertainment :-) Suddenly I'm an expert. At no time do I disclose I did actually sit through a Red Cross first aid for Dogs training class (seriously I did 6 hours, I have a card to prove it), but cats? Nope I just want them to eat. PM also has a ton of dog toys, but if you have dogs that destroy, stick to the KONG line, or you're wasting your $. Cats will play with anything, no need to buy a toy. Go out and catch a lightening bug, and let it go in the house. Automatic cat toy. I wanted to try out the vet, but the gals working the counter were very, not nice. I have a 5 pound ball of fur that I'd hope to get an appointment for, they made it seem as though I was scheduling open heart surgery of my grandma. Then I noticed the groomer was putting color streaks in dogs fur and I'm thinking why are these people taking themselves so seriously. Made a call to Ideal Pet Care closer to home. Solved that prob. I will stick to PM for my Pet Food, Cat Litter in large quantities, occasional dog toy and treat, and weekend entertainment.... read more

I'm familiar with this PetSmart because my doggie and I go to Banfield, but we also make weekly trips for "cookies" and new, plush "victims" for my dog to destroy. The store has a good selection of toys and supplies (including a decent clearance section), an abundance of dog food, and the employees and staff are always very friendly with us. This place gets extremely busy on weekends, so I recommend avoiding those times if your pet is shy (like mine) or aggressive. read more

I have two ferrets, two cats, and a dog so you can only imagine how often I am here! May it be at the pet hospital there where they take amazing care of the cats and dog, or the sales associates in the floor helping me figure out what cat food I want to purchase, or the cashier helping me online price match and save 30 dollars on a ferret cage. Where do I start? I'm an avid reptile lover who use to own bearded dragons. The first thing I noticed was one of the bearded dragons they were trying to sell was extremely sick and malnourished, laying there to die. I walked away and when I came back, one of the employees had it in her hand and was covering it up, talking to another employee. When she saw me, she gave me an angry look as if I did something wrong and huddled off with the bearded dragon. This is the kind of thing you can expect if you're buying a pet at this petsmart. As if that wasn't enough, my wife wanted to look at and play with the kittens. After filling out a drawn out adoption application just to look at the kitten, we were taken into the room to hold the kitten. We noticed a few of the cats looked sick in their cages and the kitten clearly didn't want to be held. The employee then stated that we couldn't touch any of the other cats or kittens unless we filled out another adoption application. After looking at a different cat for a minute she asked us, did you want me forward the application to adopt the kitten you just held? We said no, so she said then I have to ask you leave. My final comment is, who in the right mind would ever adopt a kitten or cat that they didn't get to socialize with? The employees are out of their mind at this location and were extremely rude to us. That's saying a lot because I'm not very sensitive or PC. read more

utterly the most disrespectful and rude employees I have ever met in my entire life. It was Labor Day and they had 5 minutes until closing and my husband went into the store to see if they had to mice for our snakes. A larger stout man was standing at the front doors he let my husband and 3 boys in. I was walking up slowly because my foot was in a cast and I was with the younger of my children. I walked up to him and said "my husband just went in can i go? Man- " Im sure he'll be right out." With the snark look on his face as he closed the doors. Okay if you hadnt Let my husband in I probably wouldn't have walked up here with my foot in a cast and crutches and a four-year-old. I couldn't get back into my truck because my husband had the keys and he wouldn't let me in to get the keys. When my husband came out He wanted to know where we were because he was looking for us and he saw a sitting outside on the curb. He stated that when he went to the door the sameman let him in and told my husband " sure, i guess you can come in, its not like I havent been here all day " I will never set foot in this store again you can mark my words. Or any of tgeir other chains for that matter. We did not purchase anything from them on this day. read more

On Saturday, June 30 2018 they were doing a pet adoption outside. and those poor dogs barely had any water, were sitting in their own filth, and all the adoption workers weren't doing ANYTHING. it enraged me and it broke my heart. Mind you, it's over 100 degrees and these dogs are just locked in cages in the sun with little to no water. absolutely gut wrenching. read more

If you take your dog to get groomed here, I'd think twice about it. Our first experience with Dana was amazing. And I like that they do military discount on Tuesdays. BUT, the grooming manager Richard steals other employees bookings ( and sucks at grooming) and they won't confirm with you when you book with a specific person. The groomers here are awful! It is almost as if they're too busy to be bothered with the needs of your pet. My poor dog is now missing one of his toenails due to negligence on their part. I am extremely frustrated and will not be back to any Petsmart groomer because of this incident. Aside from them hurting my poor dogs paw they refused to tell me anything about it and took him to the pet hospital without answering my repeated question of what was wrong with him, I had to threaten to follow him into the back office before anyone even spoke to me or would look me in the face. Pet Smart Grooming: We have had our Yorkie groomed here previously. I thought since I pay for the wellness program with Banfield, I might as well use all the services. Staff if very nice and loving toward pets, however they don't listen, nor are they trained to groom all types of dogs. Although our first couple experiences were good this past tine, 10/10/14, was awful and has made me decide to cancel my pet wellness program, and honestly NEVER shop her again. They hacked my poor Yorkie, to the point were you can't even tell he is a Yorkie. We said "trim"' we said we like to keep him long, he just needs to be cleaned up. Well now after two years of grooming, combing, brushing and washing...we are back to square one. To make matters worse, we asked to be called before he was done so we could get there because he has crate anxiety....instead they tried to put him in a crate and he went crazy, then they called and said we would have to pay extra. $61 bucks and he was hacked, seriously A 4th grader could have done better. Overall the vet techs and Dr.'s are awesome!!! Now on the other hand the front check in was a different story....The girl's name was Abby. I came in with genuine concern for my dog who had been crying randomly and sporadically for 3 days with no signs of any sickness. I tried explaining to the check in what kind of symptoms my dog was displaying, granted I was a walk in however, I felt as if I was taking up her time with my concern for dog. She was rude and and cut me off on multiple occassions, she even had the audacity to roll her eyes at me, and made it seem as if I was making up symptoms for my dog. Finally when I was taken back the vet assistant and also the Dr were very helpful and nice. The vet was able to find my dog's problem and had the treatment of care ready and answered all the questions i had concerning his diagnosis. Very informative. I voiced my concern of how i was treated by the girl at the front desk and I was told she was talked to about the situation. Still did not help because when I came back to pick up my pet she kept staring at me and continued to roll her eyes. Being at the front of any company you represent their image and being blatantly rude and cutting off customers or even rolling yours eyes at them is unacceptable. read more
