Operation Snip is a Troy-based nonprofit that seeks to reduce feral and stray cat populations on local streets by finding them forever homes. It's run by volunteers who will work with low income residents to provide affordable spay / neuter services before adoption. You can meet the cats and kittens at The Pet Stop on Columbia Turnpike in East Greenbush. It's where I met a tiny gray tabby who stole my heart. She was extremely frightened, stunted from malnourishment and the only cat left after a flurry of adoptions cleared all of the other cages that weekend. I was told she was the only one left due to her shyness, but it didn't matter. I brought her home and named her, Sweetie. She came out of her shell almost immediately and is thriving. Operation Snip has a spay/ neuter mobile unit. Its work is largely funded through donations. There will be a fundraiser on Sunday at The Pet Stop and donations can also be made via Venmo @OperationSnip. My shih-tzu used to love to be groomed until she became blind. Then she refused to be clipped in any way. She became matted under her chin and armpits. Petsmart would not groom her because she became so anxious they thought she'd have a heart attack. Her nails really needed trimming so I called The Pet Stop and they cut her nails. I asked about grooming and made an appointment. She looks so good now. All trimmed up and beautiful. I'm so grateful to this place and to the owner!! read more

I absolutely love this place and the owner. My girl Mika is impossible. All 8 pounds of her and our vet won't even do her nails. Mika has been coming here 6 years. I walk in and her nails are done in minutes with no medication to calm her and no attempts at biting. There's a doggy daycare and prices are reasonable. When I couldn't get our prescription food one month delivered they ordered it special for us. read more

6 years ago without asking she (the owner) reached down and butchered my dogs nails causing him to bleed and limp for quite some time, Poor puppy! A couple years later, I stopped in for some feeder mice, her feeder/pet mice are sick and diseased causing 2 of my snakes to end up at a very costly vet visit, And NO I did not feed them live. Now I order frozen feeders from "reptile deli". Now fast forward 5 more years, I walked in and purchased a bed for my now much older dog and later saw it online on ebay for literally HALF THE PRICE. 6 months later the rubber feet wore through and have gouged my hardwood floors. EVERY TIME I STOP INTO THIS STORE I LATER REGRET IT!!! read more

We've been taking our dog here to board on a number of occasions now. I was initially a bit apprehensive due to some reviews but I think this is the typical mob mentality that most small businesses deal with these days. The staff here is super friendly, they treat my dog like he's one of their own and he has come home so happy from each of his stays. The owner even offered us some complimentary cbd honey for him to try to calm him during storms. These people are great, they love animals, and I'm sure their customers know this to be true. I'm not really sure how they even pulled this off but for some reason I can see my dogs skin after they shaved her so that was red flag number one. I was surprised and not impressed by the conditions in this pet store. Apparently the dogs staying there have a history of abuse. Traumatized dogs should not be forced to live in these conditions! I believe that they would be better off in a quiet home with a consistent foster family where they can learn to trust humans. The rabbits have small, overcrowded cages. The kittens were a little too skinny. And throughout my whole visit their was a dog locked in a corner, covered by plywood, crying loudly. I was told that he doesn't get along with other dogs. If so, he shouldn't be here! I don't fully understand how they are still in business. read more

We have brought both of our dogs to pet stop for nail trimming several times. This week we brought them again. The owner came out from in back and said she doesn't have time for this. She then grabbed my dogs back leg to trim his nails and bent it at a weird angle causing my dog to yelp. It's like Jekyl and Hyde and we will NEVER go back. read more

I don't understand where the bad reviews are coming from. I love my dog and would never bring her anywhere that wasn't safe and clean. She gets groomed and I buy all her food there. There are a few dogs and other animals in need of homes. The women who works there does everything she can do to find these homeless pets forever homes. fantastic pet store. They hand raise and breed all their own rabbits and guinea pigs. They sometimes help re-home pets. If there is anything you need that they don't carry they will order it in for you. Cheapest place to get meal worms and crickets too. I brought my dog in for a grooming, and ended up leaving. When I walked in, the owner seemed annoyed that I was walking in and I had an appointment. And then she proceeded to tell me that my dog was "hyper." He is a 6 month old puppy and is very friendly. Once you say hi to him - he calms down. Anyway -she told me it would take hours and hours since it was his first time being groomed. She clearly did not want to groom him. She said that he would be scared and she didn't want to hold him down, and she went on and on about how he wasn't a calm dog. I finally took my dog and left. Then she said she had 5 other grooming appointments that day and maybe I could bring him back on a day when she had not a lot of appointments. Yeah. I won't be back. She was so rude and I couldn't believe that she was in the his business of grooming animals. read more

On 12/14/14 I called Pet Stop to see if they had any Kittens available for adoption. I was told that they just received Siamese mix kittens. I asked if I could come see them. I was told they were in back, but I was welcome to look. I took my daughter, as it was to be a Christmas present. We had been in search for Siamese kittens. We chose the one that looked most like a Siamese and placed a $42 deposit on the kitten. We were told they weren't ready to come home yet and that they would most likely be the up coming weekend. I called on Friday, 12/19/14 and was told they weren't yet ready because they weren't the weight she wanted them to be for shots and that they may be available to come home on Christmas Eve. I called again on Monday 12/22/14 to see if we were sill on track. She stated their was a 50/50 chance they could come home on Christmas Eve and to call on Tues evening to see if they would be ready. I was then told our kitten was doing well and it was the one everyone wanted. I called on Tuesday 12/23/2014 at approximately 4:45 in the evening and was then told that my kitten was "stolen" on Monday evening. SERIOUSLY!!!! 1. Why was I never called (she claims she didn't have my number, but I left it when I paid my deposit) 2. How does that happen? She stated the kitten was in the public cat room where people had access to her....AGAIN, Why if the kitten was well enough to be handled by the general public was she not well enough to come home with me? She stated she likes to socialize the pets. I have four children! Trust me, she would have been socialized! Again, if the kittens (there were multiple) were all already adopted (which she claims they were) why did the public even have access to them? I do not believe this kitten was stolen as she claims. If this kitten truly was the one everyone wanted (as she claims) I believe someone offered her more money for it and she took it! Why else was I put off for almost a week in picking her up! I was never called and left no time to explain to my daughter that the kitten we were getting for Christmas was no longer! We had spent the last week purchasing litter boxes, toys, and the proper food in preparation for it! My daughter was extremely excited! She was also extremely disappointed when I had to explain to her what happened. Please do head the others warnings! STAY AWAY FROM THIS PLACE! Who knows where the pets come from anyway! And who in God's name would ever board a dog there! That's a whole other story! Animal Lover's rescue group saved the day! If you are looking for a loving addition to your home I highly recommend them! They too are located in East Greenbush and show their pets at PetSmart on Weekends. Their pets come from adoptive homes, and they are highly knowledgeable about their pets! read more

My poor dog was brought in today to have a simple nail trim and was all but butchered by the girl who worker there. A few of her nails were cut so far down that they bled like crazy! She was so traumatized by the time we left and couldn't put her paw down! They also have a groomer who does grooming on a walk in basis but the clerk had no clue when they were coming in or whether I should make an appointment?!? STAY AWAY FROM THIS PLACE!! I drop my dog off there for day care, and boarding. My kids love to go there to pet all the animals, and we buy our supplies there. Nice place always filled with activity and laughter. Great quaint pet store. They also do cat adoptions. read more

I had worked to be able to have a pet bunny over the summer. We went to The Pet Stop because one of my friends had highly recommended the owner, Terry. We are so glad we went to The Pet Stop. The owner is great with the animals! She loves all animals, is kind, nurturing and very knowledgeable! She gave us many good tips on litter box training and everything about bunnies. You are also allowed to pet the bunnies and it was a very welcoming environment. She would pick up the bunnies and snuggle with them so all of them had human contact. We have our bunny home and are so grateful and happy with the whole experience. We will continue to go to The Pet Stop for more supplies. read more
