Yay new super close great place to get my cats' nails trimmed!! I was slow to realize Alice and Jamie's spot was an option but have been treating myself to wash and fold at Champion Laundry and finally noticed all the signs there not to park in their lot if you're going to Alice's. (Don't worry, real easy to park right out front on Vassar). Cat nail trims don't require an appointment and you can walk in Tuesday-Saturday, 9-3:30. It's $10. I was a jerk and ran in with my cat at like 3:25 that Saturday- had been planning to arrive sooner but wasted tooooo much time trying to catch one of my cats before giving up and just taking one. Extra jerk move: I couldn't find my cash! To pay when Alice finished (kindly and quickly). She had already shut down the cc machine so this awesome person let me leave without paying (!), trusting me to pay for both when I came back with my other cat. Obviously I did and came well before closing with my big guy. Alice was great with both cats- she worked quickly and just needed to scruff the little guy. I liked being able to watch and see that she didn't need to put any stuff restraining them on like other groomers have. So it was easy for me and on my cats, fast, priced great, and Alice was really nice...can't ask for more! read more

I am so happy with the work Alice's Pet Parlor did with Buddy's grooming! I asked for the whole shebang -- nails, glands, bath, and haircut and it came in at $55. Pretty standard for what I've paid elsewhere before moving to Reno. The cut looks SO cute, and I got exactly what I asked for. Plus, no cuts or nicks from the trimmer anywhere either. My favorite part though is that he was in and out of there quickly -- only about an hour and a half. Buddy has diabetes, and the stress of a groom can make his sugar go wild, so timeliness is extremely important to us. I just wish he got a bandana with his service too! Pro Tip: If you stress out about parking somewhere new like I do, approach the business from the west. Plenty of easy parking on the street! I took my 8 month old corgi here based on the good reviews and when I picked him up, I was disappointed. While they completed my dog's grooming within the promised time, the trim they gave him looked like I could've done it myself. It was choppy and uneven. When I first dropped him off they were confused that I was asking for a trim in the first place and I had to specifically request that certain parts were trimmed. And even then I was unsure if they had even gotten the message. I paid 60 something dollars for a glorified bath. They also cut one of his toenails down to the quick which left him with a bit of a bloody nail. None of this was communicated with us. I understand mistakes happen but not mentioning it is unacceptable. read more

I am so impressed with how well my dogs look after visiting Alice's Per Parlor. I have a Pomeranian and a terrier mix/mutt. My Pomeranian was groomed perfectly with the right face shape and a good trim of his tail. I am most impressed with my terrier mix. He is a very scruffy looking dog and had a lot of crazy fur on his head and around his eyes. He is a squirmer and does not like being held still at all. He has been to two different groomers and no one was able to give him a really good haircut until now. Alice's Pet Parlor somehow kept him calm and they were able to give him a good haircut. I took my pup, Cooper here for a major haircut. I got Cooper at the Humane Society about a week ago, and I have to admit, his coat was really shaggy. I scheduled an appointment a week in advance, and they were able to fit me in the day and time I wanted. I went in and showed them the picture of the haircut I wanted. They told me it would be about 3 hours until Cooper would be ready. They confirmed my phone number and sent me on my way. In about 3 hours, they gave me a phone call saying he would be done in about ten minutes. I went over to the salon to pick up Cooper. They were not crowded and let my pup out of the gate. He was a completely transformed dog. They cleaned up his formerly shaggy hairdo, and meshed his short hair with his long. One thing is for sure, I love my pups new do. read more

I recently moved to this part of town and have been meaning to write a review for this cute dog grooming place. It's fairly small and Alice has alot of dogs she takes care of, but each one of them gets the love and care from her! I have a little pomeranian about 4 lbs and he gets fussy when its time to comb out his hair. Alice managed to get him to not only stay still but all his little naps out. I've been taking Spike to Alices for approximately 8 years. Bespoke actually likes going there and he comes back smelling and looking great. Alice was the one who told me that I should take him to Mountain View Vet because he had a huge growth in his mouth. Ladies & Gentlemen of the jury, these are the facts of the case, and they are undisputed: We took our dog here several weeks ago for a haircut and nail trim. They even said they would "express the anal glands"-bonus! We picked up the dog and paid and tipped. We got home and noticed that the nails did not appear to have been trimmed. We looked at the coat and it didn't look much shorter. We removed the collar and the hair underneath was a bit longer than the rest of the coat. I took the dog back in a day or two and a lady said, "oh yeah, that day was just really crazy." Wut?! So if the day is crazy, you don't have to perform the work? And you don't have to advise the owner of what you didn't do? And you readily accept payment and tip? They took the dog at that point for a couple hours. They trimmed her better and cut her nails. That's the only reason they get 2 stars. I won't be going back. And I think we can safely assume they did not take the time to express the anal glands, right? read more

I always hate to do a negative review for a local business - I am a huge supporter of buying local. However, I feel as though I need to share, so that patrons can watch out for this. My husband and I took both our Golden Retriever and German Shepherd mix to Alice's Pet Parlor. Upon arrival, they didn't have us down for our appointment, but were able to still fit us in. When my husband went to pick them up, the dogs were roaming around the parlor, and the groomer told him that our Golden must have come in with a cut on her paw that "reopened when she had a bath." Needless to say, we would have absolutely known if she had cut her paw, simply because by the time he got her home, she was tracking blood everywhere. And before bringing her in to get groomed, there was absolutely no blood tracks neither inside or outside on the tile. We tried to super glue the large gash on her paw, but it kept reopening and bleeding (all over our carpet and tile). I ended up having to take her to the vet this morning (thank goodness they are open on a Saturday) and the laceration was so big they had to put two stitches in along with a special super glue. Her leg is completely wrapped, and she's on antibiotics (to prevent infection, since her paw was exposed to the elements). Our pup absolutely did not go into the groomer with that gash - it was very clear that it was fresh- just judging from the way it was bleeding profusely when we picked her up. Disappointing. Talk about an expensive trip to the groomer- not only did we pay for her grooming (which was so-so, to be honest) but the vet bill was $115. :-( I just wish they would have been honest with us about the gash from the get-go and owned up to it. I run my own book of business, and I will be the first one to say that I've absolutely made mistakes. The best thing you can do to admit to it and make sure you do everything possible to make your client (or dog) happy. read more

Choose a different groomer! My lab went into the parlor happy as can be, and came out behaving like it had been disciplined. I asked Alice why my dog was behaving the way it was, and she replied that it was maybe because my dog didn't like being bathed. I refuse to believe this, as my dog has been to many groomers before, and he has never acted like this. I am a huge believer in supporting small businesses, with that said I was more than happy to give this place a chance. I usually groom my own dog, but I saw this parlor on groupon and decided to try it. When I got there I was put off when they took my dog without asking if he was aggressive (which he isnt, but that's not the point) and put him in with multiple other dogs behind the gate. After about an hour and a half a recieved a call that he was ready to he picked up. A few days later a noticed a huge razor burn on the side of his face. And when I say huge it was almost two inches long. He is now on antibiotics and I'm having to clean his wound twice a day. Do not bring your golden retriever or any dog here. read more

I took my small poodles to several groomers over the years and in my opinion Alice's Pet Parlor is one of the best grooming places around. My poodles look perfect every time we go to Alice's Pet Parlor and I highly recommend them. 1) very clean, quality cut (no longer hair patches needing to be trimmed at home later. owners of long- / curly-haired dogs know this). 2) really listen to the requests - I like different looks on my 2 poodles and with other groomers I had to take on different days to avoid same look and still not as requested (nothing special - short nails, short ears and a little "mustache" on one dog). 3) people there are very nice and take a good care of pets. (some groomers made my dogs very nervous, with shaking and whining, had cuts a few times). read more

I took my dog here to be groomed. She has very short hair, so it was basically a bath and the other stuff they do (nails, anal glands). I give her baths sometimes but we both hate it, and I wouldn't know how to do the other stuff. Anyway, she came back smelling great and I can't believe how soft her coat was. I read somewhere that professional groomers have the set up to do a deeper cleaning, and I believe it. I also take my cats here to get their nails clipped and they do a great job. I took my pestie westie and tea cup maltese to Alice. Both have been injured previously from a groomers hand and so, they shake like a leaf when we arrive. Alice let them be out of the crate together to be able to sniff it down and be more relaxed, instead of putting them in a crate. My wife took our dog in to this place on the recommendation of her boss. She had a feeling she should have just walked out from the get go when the owner asked if our dog was neutered and she said "no" she made a big deal about it but had it been me I would have told her that it wasn't any of her business any way. There were a couple of other things that made my wife uncomfortable but she wanted him groomed and so she left him there and was told that he would be ready by 2:00 given all that she wanted done she figured it was reasonable (shampoo, deep grooming, and nails trimmed). we were a little surprised when we got a call at 1:10 that he was ready; she went back to pick him up and was in a hurry to go show him off to me. As soon as he got in the car she noticed a lot of hair all over. When she got to my work I noticed his nails hadn't been trimmed so to me the only thing she did was put a cheap bandana around his neck charged us $50 and send her on the way. We ended up having to go elsewhere to do the job right which cost us another $25 since they felt sorry that this place had taken advantage of us.
