After spending 2 years in a maternity/nursing bra I decided it was time to invest in some new bras, and hopefully find the perfect fit. Even before my pregnancy and having my baby, I never loved any of my bras or felt I had the perfect fit. My chest is on the smaller side, but things did change a bit after nursing, and I wanted a professional bra fitting. I saw The Perky Lady was recommended by Moms in local Facebook groups, so I decided to head to Apex to try them out.
I went in on a Saturday around 11ish. There were a few others getting fitted, so I waited about 10 minutes. I got there at the right time though, because there was a little line as I was leaving. The shop has a small room with some lingerie and special items on display, the rest of the bras they use for the fittings were in another area not open to the public.
Once I was back in the fitting area she started with one measurement and then left to bring back some bras to try out. She helped me into each one and adjusted the straps for me. If you are weird about people seeing you topless, this might be pretty uncomfortable for you. After a year of nursing, I just didn't care haha.
The first one she brought back was see-through, I let her know that I really wanted something with a little padding. I got the feeling that wasn't really recommended for me, but she did bring back some other options. Not going to lie, but every option seemed to have something that bugged me a little bit, either the band dug in weird near my armpits, the front felt like it was digging, etc., but she assured me they were the right fit.
Even though I wasn't totally sold on any of them, I decided to treat myself and trust that this could end up being the best bra ever after all the recommendations. I wore it home, and ouch!!! within an hour I wanted to rip it off. I tried to wear it on and off the next few days, and it was so uncomfortable and the band was just digging into me. I was convinced they sized me wrong, and upset that I had just wasted $80 for a bra that would sit in a drawer. I emailed them and got a quick response with some suggestions on 'breaking it in.' One of the last tips in the email was to buy a bra extender, and if I followed all their suggestions and it was still uncomfortable I could go back in to be refitted.
Ok here's my issue...I love supporting small businesses, and I hate leaving a bad review, because the shop was cute, the staff were responsive, and a lot of people rave about them....but seriously, I don't think I should need a bra extender for my brand new, personally fitted bra!!!! I did decide to buy a bra extender, and it fits fine with it, leaving me to believe I was fitted wrong in the first place! I realize I can take them up on their offer to go back, but I'm pretty uncomfortable doing that. It seems weird to return a bra that's been worn, and I am not convinced the return visit would be very welcome.
So to sum up my extremely long review...I am not sure if I just got unlucky, since everyone else loves them...or if it might not be the spot for someone with a smaller chest...either way I'm still on the hunt for the perfect spot to buy the perfect bras.
Tip: check their website and/or Facebook page for a donation deal...when I went I was able to donate old bras and receive $10 towards my new one. So my bra cost $80 instead of $90. read more
