I bought my wedding dresses at a sample sale from Kleinfelds and they were so big I really wondered how Emerald was going to cut away all that excess fabric and re-sew on the beading and sequins and applique back on my dresses. One of the dresses in particular has layers and layers of fabric consisting of crepe, satin, lace and soft tulle. I was so worried the dress would be ruined as a result of alteration. But my fears were TOTALLY UNFOUNDED! I absolutely love Love LOVE my wedding dresses, especially the second one!. It fit like a dream and it was in perfect condition. I know that my job was not a big one (a wedding dress or something like that), but thought I would share about my experience with my little need, so folks would know how it was! Needed a pair of curling pants repaired (a hole in the knee) for a game that night. Brought them in at 2:30 pm. and they were ready by 6:30 (they called when they were ready), with the hole repaired very nicely on the inside of the leg and a Leaside Curling Club patch sewn over the outside of the leg. Such a great job, done so fast (kindly), both ladies were super nice and helpful (Fortini and Emerald) and it only cost $15 (paid $20 though, as the work and experience was top notch)! Emerald did the alterations on my bridal gown. I could not have been happier with the quality of the alterations or the service provided by Emerald and her staff. I moved to Vancouver after getting engaged, but bought my dress in Toronto (my wedding was in Ontario). This meant tight timelines for alterations. I had my wedding dress altered with Emerald and it turned out perfectly. She was honest with me about what would look good and work best for the fabric and style of the dress. She hemmed my tulle skirt, adjusted the bust and attached cups, and created a beautiful (and easy) bustle. I just got my wedding dress back from Emerald and I'm not happy at all. As some of the previous reviewers mentioned, it really did not seem like she cared about the end product... she just wanted me to accept what she had done. My dress is semi transparent and she left the seams super thick, so you could see it really obviously all down the back of the dress... when I pointed it out she just told me it was the way the dress is... but when I got home I lifted all the layers and could see the seams just weren't trimmed. The lining was also not sewed on straight, so the side seams of the lining are out of place (i.e. not directly on the sides of the dress), which again was obvious because the dress is semi transparent. The dress also wasn't tight enough in the waist so it really just doesn't fit properly for the style of the dress. All in all super unhappy... and the alterations cost over $400. read more

This place was recommended by the place I bought my wedding dress and as much as I wanted to like this place, my experience was terrible. I did not even get a 2nd fitting as she thought she had altered my dress when it actually was WAY too small for me! She suggested I diet (seriously? to fix your mistake?) or that I wear spanx! I asked for a refit and the breast area was still not at all fitted. When I brought it home, I felt sad that my dress was so not flattering and luckily found another AMAZING seamstress to fix what this one couldn't. To sum up: rude, does not listen to what the client wants and does not deliver! I called the shop where I bought the dress to have the name removed and just want to save other people the trouble to go there. The seamstress at the bridal store I purchased ny dress from was only available on Sundays and Mondays so I thought I might try to see if I there was something out there to better accommodate my shift work schedule. Emerald was lovely on the phone and I was looking forward to my appointment. I felt rushed throughout the appointment and I was essentially told that they requests I was making wouldn't look good (I wanted the train reduced and a small amount of crinoline added to the bottom). I had previously been told by the seamstress at the bridal shop that these were very typical and average requests. Without really getting any insight into my thoughts, she proceeded to start pinning here and there. As lovely as she was on the phone I can say that this did not translate in person. All brides come here!! I came here last minute to get my wedding dress bustled. I secretly wanted my dress taken in at the waist- but knew with the amount of beading and the short amount of time I had it would be impossible to do. Emerald saved me!! My dress was not only beautifully bustled- she also attached a thick elastic on the waist area to give the dress the more cinched look I wanted without having to touch the bead work. She also did some stitching around the bust to have it fit better and stay up throughout the night (it was a strapless dress). She did a wonderful job, even did a couple extra jobs (putting in bra loops on the straps of my dress to keep it in place). The fit was perfect! Wonderful job! I've thought carefully about writing this review because I generally feel really bad about leaving negative feedback on a page but I think it's worth sharing my experience so that other brides can avoid having a bad experience here that they will regret. I took my wedding dress in a month ago for my first fitting with Emerald and off the bat my first impression was not great. The floor was filthy and after the fitting the bottom of my dress was covered in hair and dust. Throughout my fitting she repeatedly stepped away to answer the phone or talk with clients who entered her store. (Even though there were two women working in the back of the store who could have stepped in). It was really hard to have an uninterrupted conversation with her about what I wanted and I did not feel like she was really listening to me. If you're spending hundreds of dollars to have the most important dress you've ever owned altered than I think you deserve that person's undivided attention. Anyways, I bought my dress off the rack and it is probably 3-4 sizes too big and has a really intricate lace overlay. When Emerald pinned the dress to take it in she grabbed all the fabric at the back and pulled it together, which would have totally skewed the lace pattern and made the pattern in the back different from the pattern in the front. She said that no one would notice because it was "at the back anyways". Then when she pinned on the straps I want to add to the dress they were not even and I had to point out to her that one was at least an inch closer to the midline of the dress than the other one. The whole appointment was rushed and my impression was that she was going to treat it exactly as any other (non wedding dress) alteration by just taking everything in at one spot and not giving it much thought. When she pinned my dress it was so ill-fitted and frumpy I actually questioned whether I had bought the right dress. I've found a new seamstress now who was SO much more meticulous during my fitting in the way she considered the fabric and how to go about the alterations, and she explained to me why the dress had to be taken in at the sides and NOT from the back. She gave me a private 1 on 1 consultation with no interruptions where she really listened to what I want and explained how exactly that could be achieved. My advice: if you have found that "perfect" dress for your big day do not take it to someone who doesn't have the skills required to consider all aspects of wedding dress alterations and their intricacies. The way your dress is altered and the quality of these alterations will have a huge effect on how the dress ultimately looks on you. Emerald is probably fine for everyday alterations but I would not trust her with my wedding dress and I am so so happy that I switched seamstresses. And just a side note, Emerald quoted me $375 and my current seamstress has asked for $400, so you don't need to spend a lot more to get far better service. I will never use another tailor again! I needed the lining of my black blazer replaced, and Emerald did a wonderful job. The cost was about $30, equal to alterations that I have had done at other places, with less expertise, and more attitude. Until finding this 'gem', I had been desperately searching for a good tailor in the neighbourhood, since I have only lived here about two years and missed my old tailor so much. Great work! There is nothing perfect about it, pathetic would be a better word! I wish I had read the other reviews on here prior to taking my wedding dress to The Perfect Fit by Emerald. Emerald was all smiles and cooperation when she quoted her price for the alterations but thereafter she was forgetful, unresponsive, rude, and her work was subpar at best. She seemed not to care at all about how the end product turned out. I had to go back five times and still there are oversights and blatant errors as a result of her careless work. In the end I just wanted my dress back from her and to never have to deal with her again. I am now going to have to find someone else to fix her awful work. All in all it was a horribly unpleasant experience and I strongly recommend finding someone else! read more

My daughter brought her new wedding dress to Emerald for alterations less than 2 weeks before her wedding. The dress required a bustle, taking in throughout the bodice, and hemming, which included a large attached cathedral train. Emerald was friendly, enthusiastic and professional. The work was done absolutely perfectly and very quickly. She even steamed the gown for us. My experience with Emerald's was not a good one. After purchasing an expensive dress for a wedding, I was desperate to find a good place to have it hemmed, as it was a bit too long. Although I did not see Emerald herself when I dropped off my dress, the lady I spoke with did seem to know what she was doing. Unfortunately, when I picked up my dress the hem was not as I had asked for. I had asked that they do the exact same hem as the original, which she did not do. She said she didn't mark it down on the receipt and although we had discussed at length that I wanted the original hem maintained, she did a different hem. She did offer to redo, but I did not have time for that and did not want to loose extra length off the dress. No discount was offered, and at $50 for a simple hem that was not done as asked, I will NEVER go back to Ermerald's. Very pricey for the service and a huge disappointment. read more
