Best tailor in the city. I miss their old location that was more central. They can reconstruct your blazer, change the fit of your jeans from relaxed to slim to skinny. They can pretty much fix anything. Service is fast and they don't over recommend things. Very knowledgeable team that's been there for decades. Price is reasonable. Magic Tailor is FANTASTIC! They completely remade a beautiful nightgown for my Mom post-surgery that worked well for her health issues and looked fantastic! They did a horrible job and returned by jacket to me worse off than I had given it to them. My puffer jacket had a tiny 1 centimeter cut on it. I took to Magic Tailor who then told me that they could hand stitch it which would leave a tiny 1 CM mark and wouldn't fold over the fabric. Instead they folded the adjacent fabric over the cut, and removed like half of the fluff/feathers inside the puffy area which had the cut. This left a big and obvious scar on the jacket which is 5 times bigger than the original cut. That section of the puff is also now completely deflated. Additionally, the seamstress's English was mediocre which made it difficult for us to communicate. The one thing that I must mention though, is that once I made it clear that I was very unhappy with their work, they did not accept my payment. read more

Been going to these guys for the past 2 and a bit years. Small jobs like hemming etc are great. But something more complicated - boom - they say they could do it but they failed. So dress is still not wearable and 200$ wasted (73$ out of it for so called "alteration" ). If they told me from the beginning nothing can be done - I wouldnt buy that dress , but they assured me they can fix it to fit me. But after 2 tries- the dress still doesnt sit right and they still charged me. Dont think I will go back. read more

I got a a pair of jeans and suit pants altered (length and taper) here and they turned out great. They charge the same price for both jeans and suit pants despite the differences which I found was a bit different (in a good way) compared to other tailors. Together, it came down to $80 ($10 for length and $30 for taper) which was very reasonable, especially for the suit pants. They did a great job with the stitching and neither of my pants looked like they were noticeably altered. I ended up bringing a couple more pairs of pants here and the quality of the tailoring was consistent and good. Not a complaint at all but the guy there doesn't really give his input on what looks good/stylish or "in" at the moment, as some of my other tailors have in the past, so you will have to know kinda exactly how you want it altered before you come in. The price (especially for downtown!!), service, workmanship and turnaround time is overall really good so give this place a try if you're looking for a good tailor. read more

What an awesome tailor and what good prices! I had a shirt that needed some work to fit like a glove. I took it in and wasn't sure what to expect. I mean the place doesn't look like anything special but hey it's all about the craftsmanship right? I tried on the shirt and let the tailor know what I wanted. He let me know that I didn't actually need all that work done and only needed a few spots. I said sure, had him mark the shirt, left it there and went on my way! A few days later I came to try it on and he was absolutely right. He saved me some money and made sure the shirt fit great. I've had some people butcher shirts for me in the past and I've always been hesitant to buy a shirt that fit slightly large in some areas and have it altered. Now that I know Magic Tailor is around I definitely have a bit more confidence in picking something I really like but is slightly off in size. I find finding a tailor is difficult like finding a good physiotherapist, dentist, doctor, etc. You kind of go to them and don't realize you have a bad one until you find a really good one. After a few days of wearing my newly tapered pants, I noticed that the pair could use a tad more tapering, so I brought it back, and they were more than happy to make further adjustments. I haven't had time to Yelp much lately, but I'm making the time to continue to rave about how happy I am that I found Magic Tailor. On Saturday, I took 5 items into them - a vintage Armani jacket that needed the shoulder pads removed, a sundress with a busted up zipper, and three items with rips and tears that were making them unwearable. I got all five items back on Wednesday (a mere 4 days later), and am THRILLED with the results. The jacket - I had found this jacket at a yard sale, and loved the cut but hated the dated look of the shoulder pads. Being a higher end jacket, I could never dream of removing the pads myself. After Magic Tailor was done with it you can't even tell that the jacket ever had shoulder pads. The stitching work is so impeccably done, the lining looks identical to when I brought it in, only with the padding removed. Amazing. Cost = $20. The dress - Originally they told me that it was going to be $30 to replace the whole zipper. I was fine with this because I love the dress. Not only were they able to fix the zipper (instead of replacing it), they only charged me $10 since they didn't have to do as much work. I don't know many businesses that would look for options that result in them making less money, but I appreciate that they did what was best for my dress and my wallet. Cost = $10. The mends - I had a pair of Lulu shorts with a huge, uncomfortable hole in the leg, a RW&CO blouse with a huge rip under the armpit, and a silky halter that I couldn't wear because the button hook at the back had ripped off. You can't even tell that these items had problems in the first place. I had resigned myself to trashing the shirts, and buying a new pair of (expensive) running shorts. Instead, Magic Tailor resurrected these items giving them a second life in my wardrobe. Cost = $20 for all three. Total cost = $50 + tax to bring 5 items in my wardrobe back to life. I will bring everything to these guys going forward - pants for hemming, dresses to be brought in, and any other alterations. I trust them with my clothing implicitly. read more

As one of the highest rated tailors/alterations/sartorial services in the area, I opted to visit here to have two of my jackets repaired for their broken zippers. They diagnosed the damages, gave me a quote, and showed me an array of YKK zipper replacements they had on hand (of various styles and colours). Everything was handled efficiently and professionally and my jackets were good as new in the time they had stated. The handiwork appears neat and tidy and for as far as I can tell, very well done. I have gone here for several years now. I have had a leather jacket completely altered, and numerous other garments. The work has always been done very professionally and on time. If something was not quite right, it was fixed with no hassle. The price is a little above what you can find elsewhere but I value quality clothing that fits well so choose to protect my investment and go to The Magic Tailor. It tends to get busy on Saturdays so I would go at a non-peak time to avoid the wait. It would be great if they gave you a call when something is ready and had paper bags rather than the plastic, but that is a minor issue. I've probably saved hundreds in tailoring vs. buying new clothes. You would be surprised what they can do with some of your oversize, outdated or damaged clothing. Let them decide what they can and can't do to a specific piece as asking for something outside of the tailor's recommendations may lead to disappointment. I was about to get rid of a winter coat that needed a zipper new zipper. I had repaired the two-way zipper so many times that I thought the coat was finished....and I love that coat. I've been a regular at Magic Tailor for over a year now and they've always done a great job. It's very much a no-fuss, quick, easy, reasonably priced place. Highlights include turning an old dress into a cute skirt, and shortening two jumpsuits to a length that can be worn with heels or flats. They're very knowledgeable and if something wasn't done exactly as needed, they've always fixed it for me at no charge (like if something needed to be shortened further or waist didn't quite fit, etc). They're also very accommodating with turnaround times, and have good hours so you're not rushing there on a lunch break or immediately after work. I have been going to magic tailor for over a year now and they have had impeccable service each time I went. I'm not kidding, they were so accommodating that they even hemmed my clothes for me while I was sitting there in front of them a few times! However, when I went there today the manager was rude, curt, and abrupt. I told him that I was a regular customer and he charged me less than half last time I came and was charging me double this time. I told him I could even bring back the dress that he hemmed for me in less than half the price! He then told me if I brought other clothes to tailor he would charge me the original price he used to. To maintain a good service relationship, I agreed to pay the higher price because I know they have always tailored my clothes well. Once I agreed to pay and ask him when I could collect it he told me a week from now. I asked if it could be done sooner and he started mumbling to himself about how I wanted it "911" but wasn't willing to pay the full price. I am shocked because I have been a regular customer and in a span of 5 minutes he informed me that he could charge me the initial price he used to charge me and made an extremely rude comment about me needing it "911." This review probably won't affect his 5 star rating, but it's a shame to lose a loyal customer for over a year because of his simply rude behaviour. Shame. really. read more

I went to Magic Tailor to get a new suit altered. Had 3 things i wanted done to it (Make the jacket slimmer, shorten the jacket sleeve length and shorten and hem the pants) and it came up to about $100 including tax. They got it done in 3 days (I did not ask them to rush it). When i went to pick up the suit, i tried it on and felt the pants were a little too short for my taste and the guy offered to re-do it right there in 10 minutes. He was also friendly and helpful. I left happy with the work done. The place is quite a drive from where i live, but i still went there because of all the rave reviews and i needed this done right the first time. I had a bridesmaid dress that I needed to get altered ASAP - the wedding was in 2 weeks. I searched on Yelp and found I am not alone! And that Magic Tailor had great reviews for saving people in similar situations. I called ahead of time, and there was a nice man on the phone that said I can come in anytime. I mentioned my situation and he mentioned that they would be able to turn it around it a week, and not to worry. I brought the dress in to get pinned, and was able to pick it up in 7 days! Dare I tell you about this place, with the fear you will all flock there, and drive up the prices...oh darn, its worth it. This place is great. Magic tailors is an un-assuming alterations shop conveniently located on Yonge st. across from the Eaton centre. I went in to have a sari top taken in (my first sari! and the top is for someone 3x my size). they were very friendly, took the time to pin my measurements. I returned next week and they had the top ready for me, on time. It was still a little big, certainly I could of taken it as is. But they re-pinned it, and said come back the next day. I did come back, and the top fit amazingly. This is no small feat, as the majority of times I go to a tailor, they oversize things for me. I had one incidence in India of getting the same top re-sized 4 times, before it was done right. They were reasonably priced. Most important they provided efficient and quality service. I will go back here for sure. I have found a new favourite tailor in the city! read more

The store is awesome friendly and had super nice staff. I went there tonight to fix the stuck zipper of my jacket. They didn't talk about how much I have to pay, instead they started fixing it and taught me how to avoid such situation in future. I found this place through Yelp and after reading all the amazing reviews, I decided to trust Magic Tailor with my $350 jacket. While going up the elevator, I ran into another Magic Tailor customer and he was raving about the place after I told him it was my first time coming here. When I visited, it was also very busy - so I knew I came to the right place. The dad helped me with the fitting and was very willing to provide suggestions on what looks good. He also stops you from suggesting changes that won't look good. They are very fast and willing to accommodate your schedule for pick ups. This place is my new go-to for quality alterations. I had pants hemmed here in 2 hours and they did them twice because I was not happy with them and, rightfully, only charged me once. You may need to assert yourself if you know what you want (especially when it's fashion forward), but it always works out, otherwise they will give you what is generally accepted by most people these days (e.g. full break in dress pant hems). I'm impressed so far with the quick turn around, low prices, friendly service and most importantly the quality alterations. read more

Flawless. I came here to shorten the length and sleeves of a wool coat. There were a lot of little details in the cut and sewing of the original coat and I didn't expect it to be replicated. But when I received the coat back, it was perfect! They put a lot of detail in their work & it shows. Honestly, I couldn't even tell that it was altered. Brought in a pair of pants on a Thursday asked if they could be ready by Saturday, the man (owner I think) looked at his schedule and said 'yes.' I also asked if they could be ready by 3:00 and he again said 'yes.' I wanted the waist and legs brought in, was looking for more of a slim fit, they did a perfect job! I purchased a wedding dress at a bridal salon and didn't expect the $750 alterations price tag they quoted me when it came in. I ended up taking the dress with the pins still in it to Magic Tailor after a recommendation from my husband's suit designer. I was not disappointed. While most people there were getting shirts taken in and pants hemmed, I was standing in my heavily beaded, embroidered ball gown wedding dress.. I felt a bit uneasy since no one else there was getting formal wear done but my worries were unfounded. The father dealt with me and was amazing. The salon had incorrectly pinned the dress and had insisted I would need cups sewn in when in fact I didn't. Two fittings and $350 later I had a perfectly fitting dress for my wedding day, and now I will be taking all my clothes to them! read more

After reading the amazing reviews on Yelp, I decided to visit Magic Tailor. It's a beautiful lofty space and they are centrally located. The girl that greeted me was lovely, I showed her my dress and skirt. She quoted prices and I agreed to go ahead with the service. She then called another lady to take my measurements (older in her 40s with light eyes and dark hair). Before even taking my measurements, she doubled the prices. I'd like to give her the benefit of the doubt, but I noticed she saw the price tags on both items and increased the prices (its was a women's Hugo Boss dress and skirt) I agreed to the new prices as she told me it would be a lot of work ($50 for the dress and $40 for the skirt). I came back to pick up the items and both items needed to be taken in more. The dress had a large amount of fabric gaping. I had specifically mentioned the gaping at the initial meeting but I figured she missed it. She then told me that to fix the gaping, I'd have to pay her another $20. I was surprised asmost tailors will allow for atleast ONE fitting. For me, with tailoring services, TRUST is extremely important because most of us don't really have a frame of reference as how much anything costs. Really disappointed and will take my business elsewhere. I know people who have had a great experience here but they dealt with the two gentleman who run the place. I would say if you go - deal with them and you may have a better experience than I did! read more

Magic tailor indeed! This guy is extremely friendly, easy-going and helpful. He has an eye for detail, and a fashionable sense. I (stupidly) bought a dress online from this Chinese store... and the XL fit like an XS. Thankfully, Magic tailor did me the huge favor of altering the dress and had it fit like a glove! Another huge perk is that he gets your items back to you very quickly! From my visits, I believe that it's just men working on the top floors (ie. fittings, measurements, consultations, etc.) whereas the shop (alterations) below is a team of hard working staff. So, if you're uncomfortable with a man consulting with you, I'd advise you to either ask or probably go somewhere else. I would say that this place is a little more on the expensive side but worth it. It's also very convenient (opposite Starbucks at the Eaton Centre) - Two thumbs up from me! read more

The double zipper on my favourite leather jacket got misaligned and stuck, and I had been looking for a long time for a tailor I could trust to replace the zipper. A leather specialist I approached refused to do it. After reading the Yelp reviews, I tried Magic Tailor. Amazingly, the tailor managed to get the zipper open with minimal intervention, and dissuaded me from doing a costly replacement for the time being. I also brought in a light cloth jacket that had torn at the seam (weak fabric), and picked it up perfectly repaired after only 2-3 hours. And moreover, it was inexpensive. read more

I tend to do a lot of my own tailoring, even by hand (terrible I know). I just don't have a tailor I trust. So a client of mine referred me here then a quick review search sealed it. Cihen took time with me and listened to my directions as to wanting my new Pea coat brought in and trimmed up at the sides. The classic Pea coat is just too boxy and off the rack shapeless. As I was in no rush he asked that I come back in a week for pick up. In the end I'm happy with the lines being sharp and clean but the coat didn't sit perfectly and was slightly off (as in brought in on one side more than the other). I eventually went back with it as well as bringing another garment, leaning on the side of building trust. He fixed it at no charge and did a bang up job on my other piece. Very happy! read more
