When one moves into a big city, it's easy to get an array of answers to the question "Where's a good place to eat around here?" But ask "Where can I find a good tailor?", the answers you get are usually based on what's in the area, where they've seen a tailor before etc... Magic Tailor was recommended to me from a friend who, as mentioned above, was pointed to this tailor's direction because it was across the street from where she got her pants. And with me, being a lady who stands at 5', hemming of pants is a given these days. What I've never taken to a tailor before was an oversized leather jacket. Let me tell you kids something: superb work! The man worked his magic (pun very much intended) by tightening up the shoulders and shortening the sleeves. When I naively asked him to just remove the shoulder pads ('cause I've grown to view shoulder pads as evil), he actually said it would lose its shape and suggested inserting a thinner, smaller padding. You would not have guess that someone broke into the lining of that coat and changed up the pads for a more modern look. The pricing is very decent for this gent who definitely knows his craft! read more

They did my boyfriends suit for a funeral at short notice and not only were they super fast, they did an immaculate job. I went back with a broken zipper on my favourite winter coat and he had it done within the same day for much less than I expected to pay. The premises is under repair but don't let the unfinished surroundings fool you, you will get quality work! On top of it- they're polite and great with customer service! Great service. I took a pair of pants in to have them taken in at the waist, and when I picked them up, they fit - but they were not quite as snug as I would have liked. The tailor took the time to look at them while I was wearing them and point out that, in fact, they appeared to be reasonably snug at the waist. However, when I said I wanted them tighter, he was happy to redo them at no charge. Now the pants are perfect! read more

I suppose based on all the positive reviews that I am in the minority but my experience here was awful. On the first visit the tailor was showing off, ripping out the pins from the previous measurement and replacing them boasting, "They are just salesmen, I am the tailor". I took his word for it. When I returned to pick up my suit a week later, the tailoring issues had improved, but were still there. So they pinned me AGAIN and told me to come back. When I came back the third time the issue was worse again.. but they didn't want to acknowledge it was worse. Then they started blaming me/the sui that it was the quality of the suit and not their fault. A change of tune from the "they are just salesmen, I am the tailor" song they were previously singing. They showed no remorse for the inconvenience of having to visit three times and I still have to go back a fourth time to pick up my probably still ill-fitting suit. Which I am dreading. So no, I am not recommending them at all. read more

So happy about my experience at Magic Tailor. Flew into town for a wedding and needed to get a bridesmaid dress altered in a little under a week. Called them up and they told me they can get it done. They have a great spot downtown right across the road from the Eaton Centre, and the everything inside including their dressing rooms was ultra clean and comfortable. Service was awesome. They were very friendly and knowledgeable about what needed to get done. The price I paid was way, way lower than what I would have coughed up at David's Bridal or something. When I got the dress back, it was perfect. Hemmed flawlessly to my height with no noticeable changes and retained the original look of the dress! Really happy I found this place thanks to Yelp. I waited way too long to have a bridesmaids dress altered and came to Magic with just a couple of days till the wedding. They were so nice and assured me they would have my alterations done in 2 days! I was a little worried at first but I had no other options. I picked up my dress 2 days later and it was perfect! The prices are also amazing for the quality of work they do. Some of the other bridesmaids had to have the same alterations and ended up paying almost double what I did. Great Service with great quality outcomes. Brought in an indian gown to be tailored. Had to get it tightened up and the owner was super friendly and knew what looked good and what wouldn't. I had 3 pairs of ladies jeans done by this gentleman - all bootcut - and he did an absolutely perfect hemming job, where you can see the original stitching from the manufacturer and everything. It was completely flat and seamless on all 3 pairs, and you can't even tell they were several inches longer. 2 of the pairs were $225 Rock Revivals, and I'm so happy I put them in good hands! I will definitely go back here if I need any more hems. I'm super happy. The price was $20 per hem, which is what I was expecting (similar to those in the mall, but I think these guys do it better). read more

This place does it right. While it looks like any other hole in the wall with it's kitschy yellow sign right in tourist central Yonge Street, I have yet to be disappointed with the service here. The staff here are approachable, friendly, and (most importantly) very knowledgeable about the ancient art of tailoring. Needed to get buttons fixed on a winter coat in a hurry and tried Magic Tailor based on Yelp reviews. Was not disappointed. First off, this place is open on Sundays - and the Sunday after Christmas, no less (they were even open on Boxing Day too). I was hoping to drop off the coat for a couple hours but they exceeded my expectations and fixed it on the spot. Ten minutes and 5 bucks later, I had a presentable-looking coat again. The building itself (as others have mentioned) is easy to find - east side of Yonge, across from the Starbucks, and between the Yonge Suites and the stairs to the subway. Take the elevator up to the third floor and head right. Super simple. Will definitely be back if I need tailoring or alterations in the future. read more

These guys are the best. I had a last minute elopement and an outfit debacle. I called with 24 hours till the wedding and the team here made it happen. They altered my shirt as well as my blazer with amazing speed and skill. When I came back to pickup, they even made some last minute tweaks to the fit while I waited. I have gone to Magic Tailor a couple times before with moderate satisfaction but the third and last time I went, I had a terrible experience. The environment was very uncomfortable as the tailor was cursing and said out loud what a bad mood he was in after telling me Id gained weight in my thighs cause he 'remembered my body'. Granted, we all have our days but a certain amount of professionalism is necessary at the work place. He proceeded to blatantly overcharge me for my simple alterations of tucking in some tiny sleeves seemingly offended after I asked him to stop swearing. Needless to say, NEVER AGAIN! read more

Seriously, magic. I came in on a TUESDAY asking for an alteration to be completed by THURSDAY! I had tried on my long lace gown I had purchased one month prior and found it much looser around the waist than I remembered. I was going to a destination wedding and panicked so I called these guys, they said come in no problem. They took my dress and returned it perfectly fitted by Thursday. For the longest time, I struggled to find a tailor to entrust my leather jacket with. So when I found out about this place from a Yelp ROTD, I was ecstatic. I commend the efficiency here. I was in and out within 10 minutes and the tailors here were very professional. Altering the sleeve length of my leather jacket from the shoulder cost $95 before tax and took a minimum of 5 days to complete. I got a rough quote from another tailor before for $75, thus I believe they have reasonable pricing/ slightly more expensive. Will definitely be bringing moar clothes to this place. My husband and I visited Toronto for our anniversary last April. I brought some pants with me that were ill-fitting (who knows why) and decided to try to get the waist taken in. When I brought my pants, they measured me and finished the same day. They also sewed on the button on my coat for free. I've been a customer of Magic Tailor for at least two years now. The team is very attentive and highly skilled. I've gotten lots of things altered - jeans, skirts, jackets, dresses. Some alterations were simple (i.e. shortening of hemlines) and others were more complicated (e.g., slimming of sleeves, raising of shoulders, etc.). I am always happy with the results. They will even tell you if they think you are just wasting your money and something is not necessary. I go there quite often and they know me quite well. I'm definitely a loyal customer. I honestly don't think I've gone anywhere else since I found Magic Tailor. That means that if I get lazy and don't get my clothes altered, I essentially don't wear them until after I (finally) make a trip over there. read more

I needed a hem for a dress and went initially to the Bay. The lady charged 35 bucks for a really simple hem which didn't even require stitching. I yelp-searched and found this place and the tailor charges only 10 bucks for the same job. He finished it in a matter of minutes. Another bonus is the tailor's really nice! Poor work product and customer service. I brought 2 sets of new pants into the Magic Tailor, was measured, and had them both hemmed. Cost was $20 each or $40 total. Full disclosure, I didnt try the pants on when I picked them up as I assumed the tailoring would match the measurements taken. I wore the pants over the next week or so but found them both to be very short. Upon going back the Magic Tailor to have the pants altered to the correct length, the owner tried to charge me $20 per pant (so $80 all in cost for correct hemming). I politely contested this amount since I was asking for a correction to his poor tailoring job, and the owner raised his voice and berated me in front of other customers. Needless to say, I walked out and will need to get a correction job done on Magic Tailors poor hemming job elsewhere. read more

This place was recommended to me by a co-worker. The alterations I received were INCREDIBLY expensive, but I was willing to pay with the understanding it was going to be a good job. I have never had such a poor tailoring experience in my life. It was so bad, I have been prompted to write my first ever review. I believe that they should have told me when I came in that they were unable to do the job (altering a bridesmaids dress). Instead, they damaged the dress beyond repair for $200. Before even trying on the dress the issues were apparent to the naked eye- the hemming is uneven and bunched - creating lines visibly all over the dress. I am so distressed by this experience. I even went back to have the issue "fixed" and they were abrupt and dismissive of me. I do NOT recommend this location for anything that seems mildly complex. read more

This is one hell of a good tailor with great service and great prices. They were amazing at telling me what I needed and what I didn't need to make my suits look great to save me money in the end. It is truly a customer first level of service that has made this place what it is and get the ratings it has gotten. Highly recommend this place for altering suits. Absolutely horrible - they've ruined the majority of the dress shirts and pants that I brought them. They charge a lot, but their work is hasty and of low quality. Moreover, they will offer you discounts if you pay cash but won't honour them if you pay debit. Someone should seriously inspect this shop. The only redeeming quality is their location, but trust me, there are better places in the neighbourhood. Avoid this tailor like the plague. read more

I've gone here several times. For basic hemming and that its good. But brought a dress there to be altered at top/chest and is still not wearable. The took it back once but didn't really improve it. I finally got around to posting this after a really bad experience i wanted to forget, but I feel that I should help other people to not experience what I did. be careful, I came here because of all the yelp review, and it turned out to be really ugly and traumatic You'll see that some of the very positive reviews mention the insults from the tailor that other people reported in their negative reviews. But how come now my review is the only negative review? That's because the negative reviews got filtered. You need to read the filtered reviews. I was insulted, bullied, and physically threatened due to their mistakes, that they eventually admitted and tried to fix after many times of me asking politely but being insulted by them every single time. I told them the alteration result was not as what he showed me before the alteration, he got angry right away and yell at me in front of other people, saying it was my fault, saying "something was wrong with my eyes" in front of other customers. He refused to fix it, in a very rude way. I also got physically threatened (getting in my personal space with intimidating posture), this time there was no other customer. I stood my ground though, and finally they actually measured it and proved themselves wrong. I finally got it "relatively" fixed. The whole result is still not what I expected (it was more than a few alterations) butI just didn't want to get yelled at again, so I just paid and left. after I checked again at home, the alteration was actually a lazy quick one that destroyed the balance (a problem I already noticed there but cave in because of all the pressure and excuses from them). I had to bring it to another tailor to fix their shoddy work. So basically I paid Magic Tailor to insult me in front of other customers. I was actually scared of posting this so I delayed it, because they have your phone number...but I really think people should be aware of the truth so they don't get a traumatic experience too be ready to be bullied, humiliated, and insulted when they make mistakes.... read more

The store was fantastic! I brought my jacket and the staff at the store instantly was able to tell that it is made of a fake leather. ( I didn't know it was fake till then). He kindly showed me how to tell if it is genuin or fake leather. The size was too big but I didn't know what to fix, then he also gave me some suggestions. I had found this place on Yelp because of their great reviews and man did they come through! I called them the night before and had mentioned that I need a dress shirt altered the next day for a wedding that was at 4PM. He calmly said not a problem, just come in at 10AM and I'll have that ready for you. Once I arrived he took my measurements and said go for a coffee and come back and it will be ready. I left for about 10 minutes and when I came back in, it was already ready. Couldn't believe it! Quality and service were incredible. $15.00 to alter my dress shirt. I definitely tipped him and said this was amazing. I should also note, as I was in there, there was another gentlemen who came in to alter his suit jacket for a wedding that day as well. This was around 10:20AM and they said that they would be able to have it ready for about 1PM. I have found my new tailor my all my alterations! read more

I took two pairs of pants here to be hemmed. I should have taken a look at them when I picked them up. They stitched a hem too short on a leg on one of the pants. You could tell because there is a very obvious mark from stitching that was removed (holes) and stitched a bit further down to correct the length. Not only did they pretty badly mess up a simple job, but they didn't even have courtesy to tell me their mistake after taking my money. Not going back. I'd probably have considered going again if they at least owned up. read more

I found this place on Yelp and I'm so glad I did! After being very pleased with simple alterations. I brought a large alteration job here last year. I'd purchased a dress online from ASOS and needed it taken in significantly. He informed me up front that it was a fairly big job and that it wouldn't be cheap: they needed to essentially re-make the dress, including taking out and replacing the zipper at the back. I loved the dress and didn't want to go through the hassle of an international exchange process so I ponied up the $65. It turned out fabulously. The alteration was incredibly well done, well worth the money IMO, and was completes within a week. Magic Tailor is my go-to now (and I have to get all my pants altered, so I'm here pretty frequently). read more

I needed the sleeves taken in on a bomber jacket. Since it was a heavier down jacket I was nervous they wouldn't be able to do the job but it turned out great. The alteration took about a week, cost $50 and everyone was friendly from drop off to pick up. I only wish it wasn't so busy when I tried the altered jacket on at pick up, as I felt rushed and have since noticed that I need the sleeves taken in even more. read more
