Man oh man, do i love this place!! the tailor and customer service is amazing, they are so kind and professional, and also seem like straight up fair guys. their prices stay fair and reasonable and they truly don't try to cheat you out. i've gotten so many of my favourite pieces altered there, including a bathing suit i bought online. on my bathing suit, he did an amazing job bringing it in, plus he altered my chiffon maxi dress and he has taken in my demin jeans--so i have had him alter all sorts of fabrics and garments and he has done an exceptionally amazing job in all of them. i only wish i had the skills he does so i could alter my own clothing! love this place! hidden gem! read more

I tried this place for the first time this week. I needed a pair of pants taken out and a hem. It is a pretty simple job but I had a tailor mess it up in the past. Definitely the best alterations service in town!! I was squeezed for time to get a dress altered for a wedding the next day (and major alterations at that)- I went by on a Friday afternoon with the dress as well as a bunch of other dresses (for a later date)... By the next day at 2pm ALL the dresses were altered, sewn, hemmed etc etc- I was blown away and so happy to make it to the wedding reception that night in the dress I wanted to wear!! My GF's newly bought knit sweater clothes got a hole at the time of purchase. We brought the cloth to Magic Tailor. Two of them are very friendly and prompt. Magic Tailor truly lives up to the name! I lost a lot of weight, and I worried that my entire wardrobe was gone, I didn't think all my clothes could be taken in, a lot of them had pleats, or complicated patterns. There two men did a FANTASTIC job on everything I brought them, from silk tops, to leather skirts, to pleated skirts. My Mom noticed the great job they were doing, and took her skirt that another tailor had ruined, not hoping for much. Sure enough, they fixed it! Reasonable pricing, outstanding work!!! read more

I had wanted to try this tailor for some time and recently walked in with expensive jeans I needed hemmed. I had read somewhere that the original hem could (or should) be retained so as not to spoil the "look". When I mentioned this to the proprietor, he told me they could absolutely do this, but assured me they could reproduce the original hem for substantially less money. They were able to do the work immediately, and the results were great. The length was perfect and the new hem indistinguishable from the original. While I was waiting the five minutes for the job to be completed, another customer dropped in and had major alterations performed on a new suit - the results were impressive. The location is spacious and there is comfortable seating. The price for my alteration was less than any other place I've frequented. On an earlier occasion, a friend and I took a well-worn leather jacket in for a repair estimate. The tailor, who is obviously extremely talented, polite and personable, was honest about what could be accomplished and what the repairs would cost. While we didn't use their services then (we threw the jacket out), I really appreciate a business that values honesty over a cash grab. These guys are great. read more

Needed to fix the hem of pants; somehow the guy got to taking my waist measurements- then asked me out. I was so embarrassed; when I got home I did a google search on "the Magic Tailor" then on his name and the only thing I could find was his membership to some "Couples (man and woman) Seeking Women in Toronto". I've been to Magic Tailor several times now for various garments. The location couldn't possibly be better. Each time I've left satisfied with the service and the work. The shop is usually busy, with weekdays after work being less busy than Saturdays. Men's suit alterations: My dad had a few alterations done on a suit bought from The Bay -- taking it in at the centre seam of the back and the pant waist and hem. All alterations were done quickly and professionally. Women's blazer sleeve shortening: This was a quick job, and done well. Dress alterations: hem and taking in at the sides. Both were done quickly and when I tried on the dress I found it a bit too tight. Before I even had to ask, the guy asked me if I thought it was too tight, and then said "no problem, we will loosen it". No extra charge, no battle, no arguments, no attitude. I was delighted and when I picked up the dress the next week, it was perfect. I haven't done any complicated alterations such as taking up a blazer sleeve at the shoulder, so I'll update this review when I have that alteration done. Overall, I find Magic Tailor very professional with the work done well and the prices reasonable. Fingers crossed this doesn't change. Thank you Magic Tailor for taking the stress out of alterations. Great store with amazing customer service. I was helped earlier today with a quick minor alteration to a pair of pants that took but a few moments and saved me a return trip to the store. Staff was very friendly and helpful -- not to mention he didn't even charge me for the fix! 10/10 would be too fat for my pants again. read more

Based on time, quality, and service this place is very good. It's my first time going to a tailor for alterations so take my review with a grain of salt. They tell me they have been open for 7/8 years and the tailor originally worked for the Bay. He seems very experienced, detailing every alteration needed for my 2-piece suit. I had my suit slimmed around the hips and my pant waist reduced. On pickup I checked all the areas of alteration and did not see any flaws in the restitching along the hips of the jacket or the waist of the pants. Everything fit like I wanted. It cost me $20 for the pants and $45 for slimming the jacket. Given that this is my one and only suit, I was satisfied with the price I paid (and I have no other tailors to compare to). Pickup time was also earlier than they had set it for which was a convenience. read more

I'm only giving them an extra star because I think they did a good job with my alterations. I was thinking I would try them out just cause they were located at such a convenient location and all the stories about them flirting with girls might have been embellished...but I was wrong. These guys posses a true combination of know how and excellent service. I had just purchased a suit and not knowing the first thing about the way it's meant to fit me, I apprehensively went over to Magic tailor with low expectations. The tailor who helped me was extremely friendly and told me exactly what did and did not need to be done to get it to fit me perfectly. I ordered a down filled puffer coat on eBay that was very rare and when it arrived it was huge on me. I started searching for a tailor in Toronto that would be capable of basically remaking the whole coat in order for it to fit me. I was absolutely blown away by the job that was done at Magic Tailor. They did it in two days and it would be impossible to tell that it was ever touched, even though the whole jacket was essentially taken apart. I am extremely picky and like everything perfect, as I work in the fashion industry myself. I dealt with the owner who was beyond kind and extremely knowledgeable. Like someone else said - meh. I brought a winter coat in last week to have the zipper replaced - for $50. I thought that might have been a little steep but, to be quite honest, I haven't done too much research. Upon closer inspection AFTER picking up my jacket, the zipper they used looks pretty weak and I'd be surprised if it lasts the season. Don't think I'll go back. Just a couple other things in response to previous posts: The young guy (the son I think) is very friendly. The old man who quoted me the work - not so much. I don't really hold this against them but - unlike what the other reviews on here say - there was NO offer to do it while I waited or it being done in any kind of record time. These guys are great. They did the job relatively quickly - and when I needed them to tighten up my clothing some more when I tried them on (after they tailored them) - they made zero fuss about making more adjustments without any additional cost. They were then ready the next day. I paid $240 + tax for 2 pants to be brought in and 3 suit jackets to also be brought in at the sides/center seam. Expensive? Meh. Kind of average for downtown. But the quality/speed/care? DEFINITELY worth the money. They did excellent work - highly recommend them. read more

I've taken several items to Magic Tailor, and i've been really happy every time. While of course they do a good job with simple things like hemming pants, i've also been really impressed with some more complicated jobs (such as completely taking apart the top half of a dress to take in the shoulders without distoring the pattern of the beading). Reasonable prices, and very reliable service. (He can be a bit inapproriately flirtatious, but as long as i've humoured him i've never experienced any of the negativity and insults that other reviewrs mentioned. I'd rather smile patiently at this guy who does a great job than take my clothing to someone who might not do it as well.) read more

Took in the front seams on a very expensive blazer. Fit perfectly when they were done and you couldn't tell (even on the inside lining) that it had been touched. The price was also reasonable. Will definitely take all of my alterations here. read more

I wanted to love this place after reading all the positive reviews on yelp, but I wasn't blown away. The service was meh. I took some pants to him that were way too big and I felt like I was being rushed during the fittings. He just quickly pinned and was like okay you're done. Didn't ask about fit or anything. Wasn't impressed at all. I watched him size a suit jacket on a couple of gentlemen and the same thing. Quickly pinned without consultation about fit or style. Prices were on average with other tailors in the city. $20 for slimming the waist of dress pants through the sides and $30 for slimming of the waist of the dress pants through the back seam. I don't understand how this place is still highly rated. I went there a year ago to get my pants hemmed because of the reviews, and I was greatly disappointed in terms of the price, service and quality. First of all, the owner had a very unfriendly attitude, as he doesn't really care about his customers. And price is just higher than the normal tailor places downtown. Then the quality of the hemming was terrible. The hem came off after 2 months! I went somewhere else after and it was perfectly fine ever since for half of the price!!! For the other dress pants, I asked to stretch the waistline. This was done fine but they took out a strip inside the pants because it was easier to put it back together for them. I went back to the owner, he said: "If it breaks, just bring it back to me and I will fix it." Come on.... if it breaks, how embarrassing will it be?? I am not going to discredit how good it used to be and that's probably the reason why this place got all the reviews. But the place is just below average now...And I will never return. read more

i'm not quite sure how to rate this guy, but i'm never returning again!!!! been to him a few times since it's hard to find a decent alterationist at first and he seemed friendly, but sometimes "too friendly as in potential sleaze bucket" that i feel really awkward such as when he kisses my hand while i'm trying on the clothes to get altered. anyway, he seems to "hit" on me. he didn't do my first item correctly, but re-did it until he got it right. second time, he did a good job (and lectured me about buying clothes that aren't flattering and suggested a fix a top i was wearing that i didn't have a problem with!). third time, he was upset and yelled at me since i called to arrange with his staff to have my things fixed earlier than the date even though i told him that "i asked if it was possible and if it wasn't then that's all i needed to know". after returning home, i noticed that one of the dresses is "crooked" since the stitch isn't straight (it's a puffy style dress so it's even puffier) even though i tried to point that out to him. additionally, he was too lazy and didn't surge this dress (debating if i should have him fix this and surge it, but he'll probably yell at me)!!!! i'm not a professional, but if my sewing machine wasn't broken i could have sewed the lines myself! finally, i also returned to him since he charged me little for my second time, but he overcharged me on this last occasion. also yelling at customers and being a potential sleaze is inappropriate! anyway, i'm not returning to get anything new fixed! read more

I asked to get the sleeves of my nice wool coat taken out. I paid $30, which is not that cheap for this kind of work. The work was so sloppy that the hemming started falling apart as soon as I got home and I also noticed a hole in the pocket that wasn't there when I had dropped my coat off. Honestly, the work was a hack-job. If you have any really nice/expensive items of clothing, do NOT take it here or you risk having to get the work re-done elsewhere. Really disappointed with the services after having read such positive reviews. read more
