Everything was excellent drinks and service were great nice at home dining room kind of feel I got the pork belly my only complaint is that it was overdone the fatty outer layer was dry more like a dried out pork chop than a hunk of fatty pork belly. 3.5 stars for sure. If you get a window seat, you can drift away watching the water fowl dip under water in search of food. in the off season, there was minimum staff, so be patient. I had a pretty darn good Bloody Mary and my friend had their signature drink "The Pearl" which, while sweet, was good. We were in the mood for fried food, so a side of the hush puppies and better and the crab balls were both bangers!!! The bar area was half full of locals having late lunch drinks and catching up. No frills, but solid! What more can you ask for during winter in a beach town! Happy Hour starts at 3pm. Get on it. read more

The good: Friendly service and decent food The bad, bad, bad: No air conditioning on an 85 degree day - the restaurant was stifling. Unacceptable in a restaurant charging $30+ for an entree. Also the table was sticky - again not what you expect when paying these prices. Service was excruciatingly slow. It took at least 10 minutes to order a drink and another 10-15 to arrive. Food took over an hour after ordering. What in the world? Three tables around us who arrived after we did received their entrees before we did. I recommend you stop at the grocery store or a food truck and avoid this place at all costs if you value your money and time. read more

My mom and I went to The Pearl after a long day of driving and it was a wonderful experience! I was hesitant based on some of the reviews I had read (around wait time) but our waitress Jan was very attentive and the food was so tasty and came out fast. We ordered the crab pretzel, crab dip, crab cakes, scallops and a side garden salad - they gave us free hush puppies and a free garden salad which were both absolutely delicious (definitely get the blood orange vinaigrette on the salad). We also ended up going to the breakfast buffet on Sunday morning and it was also delicious! The biscuits were soft and buttery and the black pepper gravy was super flavorful. Unfortunately I was under whelmed with almost everything. We were a party of 7 with a reservation so we were seated pretty quickly. Everything took very long. There was a problem with their C02 for the drinks and they kept making loud noises trying to fix it which I understand they had to fix. Then the other guy came back cursing asking what was going on. It took so long for our food to come out. We spent over 2 hours in the restaurant, most of the time waiting. Also we were not told that gratuity was already included so our waitress was tipped twice. The oysters I ordered were barely edible, they were not cleaned and poorly shucked so they had all kinds of shell fragments in the oyster itself. The crab cakes that I had were ok. Etta's/The Pearl has metamorphosized yet again, and not for the better. It feels like they've given up on the elevated seafood take I experienced last time and leaned heavier into being a (loud, noisy) bar. The decor could do with some sound dampening acoustic panels or any textiles whatsoever to turn down the volume. Enclosing what used to be the screened-in deck area has only amplified (literally) the problem. The drinks are...fine. My aperol spritz was on point but my husband's crush lacked the characteristic crushed ice, and others at our table felt that their mojitos were missing an ingredient. Service was the slowest we experienced anywhere on the island. With a 6:45 reservation we didn't receive our entrees until about 7:45. Our server was great and pleasant and made the best of the situation. However if the wait times are that long on a weeknight it would behoove the Pearl to reinstitute the free bread and hush puppies. They'd have fewer complaints about slowness if people had something to keep them occupied, and the prices are high enough surely to put $1 worth of bread on the table. Onto the good news: The food remains delicious. Like I said, they've abandoned the fussier presentation of the crab cakes which I enjoyed last time, but the cakes are still generously sized and well-prepared. The fries were crisp, hot and well-seasoned. And the green beans are perfectly salted and blistered. Other members of my party enjoyed the rock fish sandwich and chicken Caesar wrap. Will we be back? Uncertain, but I'll aim for an earlier reservation next time. read more

We used to come to Etta's and this was my first time here since it switched to the Pearl - we came for breakfast and were super disappointed. We were the only group in the restaurant and they seemed to be out of everything. They forgot an order and it was messed up when it was finally brought out. The eggs and potatoes were not great. Eight of us traveled to Chincoteague for vacation, and during our stay we had breakfast at The Pearl multiple times. The food was absolutely delicious, and the view was amazing. I am surprised about the bad reviews but I am also a 1st timer here so I am not comparing it to anything else. You definitely have to know that it is on Chincoteague because it was more of a drive there then anywhere else. Beautiful views. Looks like an outside bar. Inside is a restaurant side and a bar side. They did have live music on Saturday night. Gena was our server and she was AMAZING and deserves 10 stars. Why? She came to our table of 5 and was upfront and honest and said she was the only one working the floor AND bar. She was bartending AND waitressing!! I don't know who made the decision to allow that but it wasn't the best decision....even if it wasn't busy. And we were there early....maybe 6:30 pm. But like I said she was awesome. Service was slow but friendly. I believe I got the Mahi handheld. It was very good. My friend has a gluten allergy and Gena was very helpful and accommodating. The view is great if you get a table at the windows, after that it is downhill. 1 Slow not because of high standards but slow due to lack of organization!!! Food was in the low mid range, 7 small fried shrimp for dinner is an appetizer not dinner, a rib eye medium is not pink center on one end and well done on the other, went from ok to tough to say the least!! 4. Saute green beans don't come from a can, yours had to that were cold and terrible. 5. The salads were fresh and good, try bringing that standard to everything else. 6. My fried shrimp was good. My wife's $38 steak was chewy and lacked seasoning. Wife had to ask for her salad after her steak came out. They did give 25% off for steak. We picked The Pearl for our weekend trip to Chincoteague, because they had a few hopeful options on the menu for our child with several food allergies. The whole experience was both disappointing and unimpressive. Though I had called ahead and made a reservation, we weren't acknowledged by any of the wait staff for 10-15 minutes after we were seated. Then, the waitress took our drink orders, which took forever to arrive. Twice, she stopped by to apologize about not having our drinks because the bar was so busy. Eventually, our waitress went to the bar and made them herself and finally brought our drinks out after our meal had arrived. They also swerved our dinner very piecemeal. We ordered an appetizer as dinner for one of our kids, which we told her would be her dinner. The waitress brought her dinner out quite a while before anything else was ready. Then, she brought out two cups of applesauce, which were our kids' side items for their meals. So, they ate dessert before they got their dinner. Finally, we got all of our food, and while it was decent, it was certainly not worth the $200 we paid for the meal. My young son got chicken tenders and fries, and there were four of the world's smallest chicken tenders I've ever seen, for $19! It was basically a basket of fries with a few bites of chicken. At some point, my daughter had to go to the bathroom, and the bathroom was a little too gross for me. Every time I see a gross bathroom in a restaurant, I immediately wonder about the cleanliness of the kitchen and imagine the kitchen staff using that bathroom and then going to go prepare food....gross. The salad was very fresh and the blood orange vinaigrette was a definite star! Hubby had broiled mahi mahi and it was done well. I had the broiled crab cakes aka crab balls. For the price, they are definitely on the small side. But they were nicely seasoned. Our sides were onion rings and sweet potato fries. Nothing to write home about. I feel like I have given a lot of 5 Star reviews over this past weekend but this one may be the best of all of them! The Pearl is a new restaurant right on the water on Chincoteague Island. The location is easy to find. The view when you walk into the restaurant will blow you away! We were seated promptly. They had just opened for dinner and were already packed with customers. We had expected a wait and there was a bit of a wait for drink orders because there was a large table ahead of us but trust me the food was worth any wait! I started with the Fried Green Tomatoes and they were perfection! My husband ordered the Soup which was a Crab and Corn Chowder and he had to fight me off it LOL! It was so creamy and delicious! I want the recipe! They also bring out bread and hush puppies to munch. For entrees I ordered the NY Strip with a Garden Salad and Mashed Potatoes. My steak was temped med rare as requested and well seasoned. The mash was well prepared and the Blood Orange Vinaigrette on the salad was so delicious. My husband ordered the Lamb Chops, also temped med rare, his first time having them and he loved them! I ordered a Malbec, the perfect accompaniment to my steak and my husband ordered a couple of Orange Crushes which were refreshing and well balanced. We didn't save room for dessert but will plan that for next time. The only issue we found was the servers have to leave the main dining room to go to the bar next door for cocktails and that can be a bit of a long wait especially on a busy night and I imagine throws a wrench into their service. We finally visited on the day of Pony Swim and were so pleasantly surprised! Same beautiful view and sweet service as the old Etta's, but the new owners have elevated everything else! It was so nice to eat a good salad with fresh tuna on a hot day. All of our appetizers were delicious and my husband loved the grilled Rockfish. Our server Raquel was attentive and delightful. They have the best view on the Island too! For visiting foodies, this is Chincoteague, not Rehoboth Beach, so understand that traditional food is what restaurants serve. The Pearl is sticking to that, but pushing the envelope with a few modern twists and more fresh vegetables, but everything is well-prepared and delicious. We will be back regularly. read more

Hubby and I just wanted oysters to on the half shell. They had no shucker so I suppose we weren't getting those. So we opted for the fried oysters. Nope. Out of them. Opted for the scallops. I took my two grandsons to the Pearl this morning for the breakfast buffet and It was a total home run! The buffet has all the classic breakfast food items on it. Pancakes, French toast, Biscuits and gravy, bacon, sausage, fried potatoes, eggs, etc. My grandsons love it. The boys ate a large stack of pancakes and bacon. I had the biscuits and gravy and it was awesome! They do automatically add a 20% tip to the buffet ticket but I don't mind that because the waitress brought us our drinks and was on top of everything, checking in on us several times. The waitresses also keep the buffet table stocked and clean so they really do earn that tip. The price was very very reasonable for the variety and amount of food we ate. The view was spectacular looking right over the water. If you are looking for a traditional breakfast buffet that won't disappoint this is the place to go! read more

Based on their expensive menu and table setup, this restaurant is trying to push the narrative that they are an upscale, refined establishment but it is quite the opposite. We came around 8 pm on a Wednesday evening and tried to order the crab cakes. The waitress came back from the kitchen and told us they were out. No big deal, we ordered something else. I had the Mahi which she told us was one of their specials that day. It was very dry and did not have the accompanying coconut sauce. When I mentioned this to the waitress she went back to the kitchen to get it only to come back out and tell me they did not have that sauce anymore! I had to push for an alternative and ended up with a tartar sauce that probably came out of some store bought jar. You get 2 sides: I tried to get coleslaw and mashed potatoes. Once more; the waitress tells me they do not have coleslaw anymore and proposes Brussel sprouts. The mashed potatoes were dried and lacked flavor. The Brussel sprouts were shriveled up with no seasoning. My brother in law got the salmon, another "specials" of the day. Dried with no seasonings or sauce. The fries were borderline burned up. I told the waitress I was extremely disappointed with the quality of the food; she could not have cared less. Did not even get the manager. We had a good laugh when they plopped on the table the huge ketchup bottle from Great Value (Walmart brand). And they have the audacity to write on their menu that they are not a fast food restaurant, that each dish is freshly cooked and to please be patient. What a joke!! read more

We decided to try the Pearl on recommendations from a facebook group on the crab dip. It was lunch time on a Sunday. Only a few tables had people so we thought it would be somewhat quick. Wrong. It took us a good 20 minutes to even get our drink order taken at which time we also gave them our food order. It took another 10 minutes, just to get our drinks,, 3 cokes and a water. Cokes were absolutely awful. Apparently the soda machine was broken. I don't know if we were getting soda out of a 2 L bottle, but it was flat and watered down tasting. Maybe an hour in food finally came out. Chicken tenders with fries, crab dip with fries, crabby grilled cheese with fries, and a kids grilled cheese with mandarin oranges. The only thing that was edible was the mandarin oranges, french fries, and a few chicken tenders that all of the breading fell off of. Both grilled cheeses came out cold with unmelted cheese. The crab dip smelled like straight fish, had zero seasonings to it. Was watery and tasted absolutely horrendous. I asked for old bay and tried mixing that in. It did not cover the fish flavor. I would like to add two people asked for ranch, the waitress came back to tell us that they were out of ranch, but we overheard an (assuming)manager, stating that he didn't feel like making it. I complained about my crab dip. It was taken off of the bill, but it was still a $70 waste as all of the food was left on the table. While there another table in the same room seated after us that actually got into an argument over how bad the food was, they got up and left. The only highlight was another man eating there who was a magician, and came over and did a magic trick for my granddaughter. My daughter loved the chicken and waffles so Much she ordered it both times, which I tried and agree wholeheartedly. We are still waiting for a greeting. Finally get greeted. At this point, we ask if we can give her our drink order and the food order, which she did take. Took almost 45 min to get bar drinks. She did give us waters while we waited. My daughter wanted chocolate milk- server knew this when she took our drink orders. That took flagging down three different servers and came almost an hour and 15 min after we were sat. Server comes out 45 min after food order to tell us that they were out of wings and what else would my son like to eat instead. We got salads almost an hour in. We asked multiple employees what the hold up was (it wasn't super busy). Some were apologetic- but never saw a manager, much less our server. Had to ask multiple people for refills because we didn't see our server. Larger party got appetizers, salads, meals and a check. We still had not gotten our food. Finally, we threw in the towel and said just forget the food. Paid our drinks and left. Went to Ropewalk instead and had fantastic service and food. read more

**Beyond a great view, this establishment has no redeeming quality.** This was our first visit since the reopening as The Pearl, and it will likely be our last. Although the staff was friendly, the environment clean, and the view fantastic, those were the only positives. Unfortunately, the restaurant seemed understaffed, causing our waitress to be inattentive. Our drinks sat empty for too long, and when she finally came by to tell us our food was coming out soon, I had to remind her that we hadn't even received our Hush Puppy appetizer. She scrambled to get them to us, and they were just okay--slightly overcooked. When our main courses finally arrived, after about 45 minutes, they were a disappointment. I had the stuffed flounder, and it was the worst I've ever had. It was lukewarm, flavorless, and the topping was watery with very little crab meat. My father's blackened Mahi was also dry and overcooked. To make matters worse, the restaurant was hosting a trivia night. Even though we were seated around the corner from the trivia host, the noise was so loud it reverberated throughout the entire space. It was difficult to have a conversation over the noise. The next evening, we dined at Bill's PRIME Seafood & Steaks. Despite being more upscale, Bill's had lower prices (except for their high-end steaks). Their stuffed flounder was $4 less and tasted like a proper dish, and the scallops were also $4 less. If you're looking for good food and a pleasant dining experience, skip The Pearl and head to Bill's instead. The only reason I didn't give it one star was because if you are looking to sit at the bar, have a beer and enjoy the view & entertainment- this might work for you. I would still prefer Ropewalk or something else for this unless you wanted to sit inside. read more

It's been almost a year since my first visit to The Pearl and we decided to give it another try and I am so glad we did! I was very impressed with their recent renovations inside the restaurant - it was gorgeous before and looks even better now! SO HAPPY to see they got rid of the ridiculous tablecloths so I didn't have to listen the the staff scraping crumbs off of them again lol It also gives it a more casual vibe overall. I ordered the Chicken Chesapeake special with green beans and my boyfriend ordered the Stuffed Shrimp special with carrots and mashed potatoes. The food arrived quickly and the serving sizes were huge! There were giant lumps of backfin in each dish - they definitely didn't skimp and use cheap filler! The shrimp were some of the biggest I have ever seen. Everything was well seasoned and we enjoyed every bite. I have to give a shout out (oddly enough lol) to the carrots and green beans. The green beans seemed to be flash fried (?) giving them a slightly crunchy texture.........they were divine. The carrots were sweet and cinnamon-y......they tasted like sweet potatoes. Very, very good. Our server was attentive and friendly and oh the view! What a lovely way to spend Mother's Day. I wish The Pearl much future success! read more

My wife and I went to the Pearl for their pony round up and swim buffet. First, they told us and others that you could 100% watch the pony swim from Assateague Iland to the main land. WRONG! Even with binoculars you couldn't see a damn thing, because the line of boats kept you from seeing anything from their place. #2, The eggs tasted like nothing and were extremely dry. #3, Bacon was cooked 2 ways, either mostly raw or cooked so much you could break a tooth. #4 It took us almost 30 minutes just to get a drink ordered. Also I asked for some ketchup, to cover up the bland flavor of the eggs. That too 25 minutes, and when she finally showed up with it, after having eye contact with me 4 times, the freakin container was like empty. I got a bit of a squirt and just gave up.#5 When a group of us were out on the deck taking photos and such, the owner came out and asked us to move down to the tables because " I Quote" I built that and someone might get hurt. It was kinda rickety! #6 when sitting at a table, off of the rickety deck, there is a ton of garbage from many past floods under the building, so you are now looking at junk and smells! #7 The owner was bitching to another guy about how his servers were closing down early and was swearing many 4 letter words in front of many guests. Lastly, you know the ownership could care less because they have not and do not read and respond to the reviews, negative or positive. They charged $108.00 per person to lie to us about the pony swim viewing and shitty food! Please find another establishment to have a much better time and food!
