I am not a pasty expert but I love the Pasty Corner pasties. The restaurant is small, simple decor with friendly service. They also have a drive-through. I usually purchase frozen pasties and cook them at home because I like a more firm crust. The pasties have plenty of meat and potatoes in them. They have other varieties of pasties too. I stick with the standard. And I dunk mine in ketchup (not sure if this is proper lol). I just tried their pizza rolls for the first time. They are so good! I heard they sell out quick, so go early. Whenever I am in Iron River, the Pasty Corner is a must stop for me. I think the prices are reasonable. Look up the hours before you go. read more

I finally visited The Pasty Corner which my in-laws raved about. Well...they're right to hype it up, this place is really good. I had their standard pasty that consisted of ground beef, onion, and rutabaga. It is huge and only cost $6. Make sure you add black pepper and ketchup...it tastes amazing! I could seriously eat 5 of these in one sitting and I'd be good for the rest of the day. The girl behind the counter was not friendly at all...I didn't order (my MIL did), but apparently she gave off an attitude that made it seem like she didn't want to be there. I finally made it to The Pasty Corner and it was a surprising experience from a pasty shop in a small town in the U.P. The shop is clean and seemingly a well-oiled, pasty-making machine. They have new flavors by the day, though of course I had to get the traditional with rutabaga. I would've liked a touch more flavor (maybe a little pepper), but the pasty held up pretty well and I'll definitely put them on my list whenever I'm around the area. This was the second time I had a pasty. I wanted to try the local fare. It was ok, well cooked, and the service was good, The place was clean and inviting. I've only tried three or four pasties in the UP, and while they were hearty and filling, they were mostly tasteless. That is until I bit into the perfectly cooked and crusted beef pasty from The Pasty Corner. It was the perfect balance of meat, potatoes, and crust with the exact amount of salt to "draw the flavor forward," and flavor there was much of within these delicious, and lovingly made creations. I watched as the ladies artfully made the pasties in the super clean kitchen area in the background behind the counter while I was pleasantly served. The whole place was spotless. Pasty Corner has specialty pasties offered on certain days of the week. Tuesdays it's the Breakfast pasty (eggs, bacon and cheese inside), Pizza pasty on Wednesday - my favorite, filled with pepperoni, cheese and tomato sauce, and Vegetable pasties on Fridays. Seems the breakfast pasty sells out the quickest. You need to pre-order them to be assured of their availability on the particular day. It was Friday morning and I wanted breakfast. I read a few local reviews and came across the words "breakfast pastys" (eggs, ham, cheese, potatoes an onions) at the Pasty Corner, and was stoked. Had I read carefully, I would have known they were only available on Tuesdays. Damn. Alas, I was recommended to try the regular pasty, as a first-timer. It smells, looks and tastes like a pot pie with meat, potatoes and onions. Friday's special is a veggie pasty with broccoli, cauliflower, cheese, carrots, potatoes and onion. I'm not one for healthy foods, but I actually liked the veggie one better - the broccoli (and cheese) was so tasty. The regular was a tad bland. Most pastys are $3.50 fresh or $3.25 frozen. Small pastys (of the regular kind) are also available for $.50 less. The place is open 9-6 M-F, 9-5 on Sat. FYI - pasty is pronounced like past-ee, not pay-stee. The latter are usually not consumable. For you history buffs - the Pasty was started in Cornwall, England where coal miners took them to work - eaten like a sandwich but consisted of a meal in a crust. read more

We had literally JUST driven into Michigan with the goal of tasting all of the typical Michigan foods(especially from the upper peninsula), when we drive past The Pasty Corner and decided to stop. The Yelp reviews were very good so we decided to give it a go! It's a small, unassuming quaint place with friendly staff. You order at the counter, get your food and pick a seat. Since this was new cuisine for us, we thought we'd stick with the regular pasty, which is a fresh dough stuffed with beef, potatoes and onions. For only $4.75, how can you go wrong? It was a pretty large portion and given that it was just a snack for three of us, it was more than enough food! It was tasty. My only small complaint would be that it was mostly filled with potatoes and not enough beef. I also would have loved some other colors in it, as it's pretty beige. But again, it was yummy and filling. I imagine the breakfast pasty and the pizza pasty are delicious as well! Definitely worth a visit if you're eager to satisfy a pasty craving! read more

About Pastes: First of all there are some places trying to make pastes trendy by creating bastardizing recipes to appeal to the Hipsters. So go to it, but I'll stick with the traditional U.P. traditional Cornish Pasty. You could not get me to eat a rutabaga on it's own if you bribed me, but baked in a pasty adds flavor. There used to be more pasty stores in the U.P. but that has faded a little as the population has declined in the past twenty years. Savor The Pasty Corner a neat clean little restaurant on the West side of town. A perfect lunch or supper. One should be plenty but two will fill any massive hunger. I like a little spicy mustard to go with and since I can't get a proper pasty where I live I have to depend on the little mustard packets in the store, which is rather plain. I have fond memories when I was a child and we would buy a bag full of pastes to take up to the deep woods of Iron County and eat in a rustic cabin while they were still warm. This store is professional, helpful and friendly and very reasonable. Don't sound ignorant and pronounce as a Paste-ees that of course is entirely different. These are Past-Tees! read more

I'm a pasty fiend and have been known to make the 5 hour trip north on a whim because honestly, the crap they call a pasty here in Milwaukee just doesn't cut it. For several years a buddy and I made a yearly trip in summer to, among other things, eat as many pasties as possible. Pasty Corner is always the first stop. I love what would be considered the standard model, mystery meat (the best mystery meat i can imagine!), potatoes, onions in a wonderful flaky crust. I grew up in the Iron River area and my mother was the best pasty maker in the whole world. It was a winter staple for our family, and I still make them myself. However, I will say that the veggie pasty from the Pasty Corner is awesome. I only get to visit back home about once a year, but when I do, I bring coolers with me and pre-order anywhere from 50 to 70 veggie pasties to bring back to Madison, WI with me. When I run out, if I have family that comes to visit, I always ask them to bring me a new shipment. I give the veggie pasty five stars for sure. They are scrumptious, filling, and easy to microwave for dinner when time is of the essence. The regular meat and potato/rutabegga pasty is more bland, and therefore only gets 3 stars from me. (My mother's were a lot better). That being said, I think Deb and Wally, the propietors are wonderful. They have always accommodated my huge orders, and are very welcoming. I only wish they had a set up where they could ship these tasty items. If you're visiting the U.P. and have never had a pasty....this is the place to try them. In the UP driving from Ironwood and the wife wanted a Pasty. My search said Pasty Corner 26 miles. So glad we found them, fresh as hell, The crust is perfect and the filling with rutabaga is awesome. Them bad boys are big too. I ate that whole large and almost had to take a nap. So mad at myself for not buying some frozen ones for the cooler. Please people skip the fast food places and eat local and fresh and have a Pasty from some ladies that know what their doing.
