When you pull up, it looks like an industrial area -- big parking lot, office buildings, and the place doesn't even look open. The windows are so dark and tinted you can't see inside, the parking lot might be empty, and you'll be questioning everything. Still pull on the door. When you open it, you'll see they're open. It's to-go only, no dine-in seating. The service is friendly, and they'll give recommendations if you ask. You order through a kiosk, and honestly, everything on the menu is good. Although I have not had the chance to visit their actual ghost kitchen location in Altamonte, I did have the wonderful opportunity to visit their food truck at the Orlando Fringe Festival. Accompanied by a friend, we stopped by The Pass Kitchen food truck with high hopes. Not only did they meet all expectations, but they exceeded them. The staff was kind and engaging. That is also part of the reason we ended up eating at The Pass Kitchen over another food truck that was in consideration. It was solely due to how engaging the staff was. Also, their frescas were super tasty, which is mostly what I had. I only had a little corner of what my friend ordered, and it was super tasty. Found The Pass on the lawn of the Orlando Fringe Festival this past year, and I was very excited. I had heard good things about this truck, so we got a birria crunchwrap, because that sounds amazing. I can't eat spicy foods so when I asked about heat, they were so cautious to tell me each potential ingredient that could be an issue and to put them on the side so I could manage the spicy level. It was still SO flavorful even slightly deconstructed and I've brought several friends to try it since. The value of flavor, quality, and quantity for the price is great. I picked it up from a nondescript business park and made my way home for the taste test. The crunchwrap was substantial... filled with rice, cheese, beans, beef, and topped with cotija. I dipped it in the container of consommé provided and it was love immediately. Well seasoned, rich, hearty.... Top shelf. I then dipped in the queso... salty, creamy and rich. I've ordered food in the past here before (one of the krunch wraps, which wasn't crunchy). It's been almost 2 years bc I didn't find it that great and thought it was expensive for what it was. I remember placing my order online and then having to wait 30 minutes even after I arrived for pick up. Interesting set up. Was not a sit down restaurant and can't be. In a warehouse type area, wasn't easy to find. Was looking for food tonight and figured I give this place another go but to try their burrito this time. About to check out and it's asking for a tip. Coming from generational restauranteurs and also have worked in fine dining for 5 years, I think it's pretty annoying for it to apply 20% tip on take out as if it's expected... I typically tip for take out dependent on the customer service received but this is online ordering with no answers to questions I have. I had so many questions about their sauces :( but regardless, was willing to go in blind and "purchase" the sauces. What made me not continue my order was the "tax". Orlando is a 6.5% tax on food. They are charging 13.15% as their tax. I don't know if it's because I grew up in the restaurant business for over 25 years and I noticed these things but it's crazy that they are charging double the food sales tax and getting away with it. It already annoys me when I see restaurants include sales tax as part of the total for assumed tip, but this is another step beyond that... It's not about it being a dollar more (obviously way more as the total bill increases), but it's the dishonesty I can't tolerate. Maybe why I ended up in the legal field now as my career. read more
