We popped in here while walking around downtown Murphy. It was surprisingly empty for a Friday evening. The inside is nice with a good amount of booth seating and bar seating available. We chose to sit at the bar. Our bartender was friendly. They don't serve liquor, but had a good variety of beers. I tried a breakfast stout which I liked and my bf got an agave sour. We decided to order some pretzel bites and beer cheese as a snack which came out pretty quickly. The pretzel bites were on the dry side in my opinion. I liked the beer cheese. It was different than others I've had and almost gave a queso vibe with the flavor profile, but it was good. We decided to venture elsewhere after our round and bites as we wanted something a little more lively. Overall, Parson's is a decent spot to relax and enjoy some drinks and food. A perfect first stop on our road trip. Atmosphere - Warm, welcoming, accommodating. Food was freshly prepared and delicious! The best Guinness cheese sauce I've ever eaten and the gravy for the bangers & mash was on point. Shepherds pie meat tender & nicely seasoned. Mr. Brett behind the bar is a gem who is love of beer is literally on display with his clever wall arrangement of the Parson's offerings that acts as their beer menu. Yikes. We ordered the fish and chips. The fish coating had parts of it that were burnt while the fish itself was a little mushy. The chips weren't any better. Everything on the plate tasted like it went through an oven and not a fryer. It was all just weird. Also $2.50 charge for extra tartar sauce? Y'all this was just sad. Stopped by for lunch. My wife had one of their lunch combos - a bowl of soup and a toasted cheese sandwich. The soup - chicken vegetable - was pronounced excellent, the sandwich merely so-so (to be fair, the bread was surrounded by cheese, inside and out, so it was an interesting take on the subject). I had their potato skins. Again - this being an Irish pub - they had their signature take on it. Instead of sour cream, you had a Guiness-Cheese dip. They were also covered with melted cheese. I guess I prefer the sour cream, but I give them credit for innovation. The wait to order was normal, but the food preparation took quite a bit longer than we cared for (30-45 minutes?). My folks are big on Irish food and decided they wanted to check out the place. We waited an hour for our food and most of the time I don't mind waiting because the food is worth it. In this case I would have rather gone to a McDonalds I'm sure the food would have had better taste. We had a Reuben that was dry and cold, meat was barely room temperature and the bread wasn't grilled. The shepards pie was small and lacked flavor. The broccoli cheese soup appeared to have been made with water and not milk or cream. It also lacked flavor and needed spices. The patty melt was dry, again no flavor to the meat and don't bother asking for Guinness beer cheese because not only do you need a magnifying glass to see it you then realize it's actually not Guinness beer cheese it's a tomato sauce and go figure the only thing that has spices. Trust me when I say it's not a cheese sauce it's red in color and chunks of tomato. I have to say it was shocking that they are open. I think it's because everyone's drunk and can't taste food. Our service was subpar. I understand that many places have a worker shortage, but there were only a few other diners in the restaurant. We had to ask for silverware after our appetizer was served, asked for straws, and we never got plates for our appetizer. We got the nachos to start with and they had so much potential to be great. What made them mediocre were the cheap tortilla chips the toppings were served on. My husband got the fish and chips and they were the worst he's ever had. My French onion soup was watery. My Reuben was just okay. There was no tanginess that sauerkraut normally gives. My son did enjoy his chicken tenders. The English Whipped Pudding, wow. I'm so glad we decided to get dessert after our French Onion soup because that is my new favorite. It's full of different creams, pudding, and sugar with two Walker's shortbread cookies on the side. Definitely a once in a while decadent treat! I hate posting poor reviews however feel compelled to do so because this restaurant has the potential to be much more. This is the second time we've eaten here. The first was over 3 years ago, and honestly I really liked it then. Not sure if ownership or management changed, however they need a realty check. My mom, sister and I went for a late lunch last Saturday. It wasn't busy, just a few tables. Our waiter looked like he didn't belong there (maybe he wasn't supposed to be), and honestly didn't seem to care much about anything. We ordered our beverages, two waters and I a Diet Coke. He dropped them off while we looked at the menus. I took a drink snd almost spit it out. Tasted like weak soda water with maybe something mixed in. I caught his attention and let him know it was not Diet Coke. He then admitted that the DC line was not working so they hooked up the Dr Pepper line and that maybe he needed to run more through it. I said "no worries", how about an unsweet tea? So he brings me back the tea and I take a drink. This time I has to spit it back in the glass! It was sour! Meanwhile he drops off another attempt at the DC which was worse than the first. I alert him to the sour tea and by now we are both frustrated with each other. Me because he didn't seem to give a sh*#, and he probably thought I was being a PIA. Lol At this point I decided to forget about a beverage..... We ordered. A pretzel with beer cheese to start. Yummy, however way overpriced. Both my mom and my sister ordered the fish and chips. I tasted it and although the beer batter was very strong (mom didn't like it), it was hot and freshly made. I wanted to try the oven baked chicken fingers. Welp, that was a poor choice. It tasted like it had been baked sometime earlier (you guys know the flavor after cooling snd reheating chicken), and then barely RE-heated. Yuck! I chose the smaller order because of the pretzel, and although there were a lot of fries, there were only two little chicken fingers. Again, way overpriced. The ambiance is cool, however unless you want to pay gobs of money for poor service and marginal food, I would choose one of the many other choices close by. read more

This place is GREAT! A real authentic Irish bar, here in Murphy, NC. The place is small and located in the downtown area. I started off with the Broccoli and Cheese soup, which was their soup of the day. Served piping hot in a small bowl with either bread or crackers. I chose the bread. When the soup arrived I then placed my entree order, the Shepherds pie. While I took my 3rd spoon full of soup, my entree arrived. I was shocked it came out so fast, especially when I just started with my soup. The server said yes, it does come out fast. I wish I would have known that ahead of time or very least, she should have not placed the order till she saw I was almost done with my soup. This is the only reason I didn't give this place a 5-star rating. However, the pie was great. Even though the side of Broccoli was luke warm now, due to what I mentioned above, it was still tasty. And since the pie is covered with a layer of mash potatoes, it was still very hot. A great texture of meat sauce and veggies. I will definitely be back here next time I am in the Murphy area. Just won't order my entree UNTIL I'm almost done with my soup. read more

We gave them a third and final try and were disappointed again with the Fish and Fries. They no longer do "real" cooking and it appears that they rely on air fryers and microwaves. Worst experience I've had here. Been here maybe 6 times in last 5 years. Always had a beer and good service. Yesterday we ordered off the lunch menu but the bartender decided to turn in our orders as dinners. Instead of 9$ they were 16$. That would have been ok except the cod was the worst I've ever had. Parsons does not fry anything, they bake the fish and chips. None of us could eat the fish. I will pass Parsons from now on. read more

This is a cute little place in the center of town that does a good job of putting of an "authentic Irish pub" vibe. We weren't expecting much from a stopover spot on our trip, but were pleasantly surprised. I like fish and chips, but am generally afraid to get them anywhere due to the grease factor. These, however, are air fried, so I felt better about giving them a try, and they were quite good. Very different from what you're used to, but that's not a bad thing. My husband opted for the reuben which he said was one of the better ones he'd had. High praise for a small place in a small town in the south. The only complaint I would have is that they don't appear to have a fryer, so any "fried" goods are baked instead. I suppose that is more healthy for me, but you just can't get perfect "fried" foods from an oven. This place was a such a little gem to visit! Being part Irish I love me a good Irish bar. There were so many beer choices! We ended up getting a flight and it was only $7. Seems like a pretty good deal to me! The only thing that would have been even more great would have been if there were more options for the flights on draft. Maybe more cider choices! There were plenty of bottle choices though! I think this place is also great on prices. I wasn't too hungry but got the French Onion soup because I feel like you have to try that at places like this. Stopped here on a rainy day during our vacation. The food options were great, and tasty! Another plus was the amount of bottle/can beer options along with a select few craft beers on tap. I got a dragons milk reserve which was only $6.50 for the bottle, and she was nice enough to put it in a frosted glass for me. The atmosphere was great and I was worried it would be like any other small town bar when you walk in and everyone stares at you... it was not like that at all. The first words said to us were "make yourselves at home wherever you like and I'll come find you". Staff was very nice. The only reason I didn't do five stars was because service was somewhat slow, but we were told later it was because they were learning how to use a new system for their orders. Shepherd's pie and chicken pot pies were good, hearty and filling. Fries and slaw good too. Pricing however was high. Place advertises a lunch menu on their site and when asked at 1215pm was told there was no lunch menu so you had to pay dinner prices for lunch. Also, you pay a 3% upcharge to use a credit card which was posted on the back of the menu toward the bottom in small print. A sweet tea was $4 which is way too high. 3rd member in party had shepherds pie pocket which was only $2 less than the pot pie dinner (which was good) but literally had about 2 tablespoons of filling.
