It's out in the country, very quiet, in a BEAUTIFUL setting....yet it's just a few minutes from Corning. My GPS did me wrong. Both times I stayed there I expected to be at a reasonable hour, but ended up with serious delays and arrived after midnight! Al was up waiting for me both times, and greeted me cheerfully, despite the late hour. THANK YOU, AL! (He even gave me a beer, which I sorely needed by then.) The rooms are glorious, with great beds and bedding, and incredibly comfortable, with private bathrooms. I'm hoping to visit Corning again this year, and will definitely stay with Al and Cathy if I can! (Cathy even had fruit infused water available in the public fridge. Just like downtown Big City, but without the price tag!)

In the bedroom is a frig, microwave, desk, closet. Down the hall is a washer and dryer. Downstairs, there is always fresh coffee, water, yogurt, eggs, etc. There is a gorgeous creek out back. We had so many places to choose to sit and enjoy the beautiful outdoors. In the winter, the home is warmed with a wood stove which makes it very homey and cozy. We are planning our visit this fall. Al and Cathy will be sure you are taken care of and always respect your privacy at the same time. Highly recommend spending time here at Country Living.

Both are well connected to the local food and wine scene and they introduced us to a couple of the vineyards that are within a ten-minute drive of the Inn and pointed us to an amazing restaurant in Hammondsport--again a short drive from the Inn. Although we didn't have enough time to get there, the Inn is also right next door to a brewery and distillery. Our weather was less than ideal, but it didn't matter. We spent a couple of hours one afternoon hanging out in the historic cupola room with complimentary hot drinks and cookies. As history buffs, we were impressed that the Inn is on the National Registry of Historic Places and was also a stop on the Underground Railroad. It was a perfect environment for the family to catch up before another lovely meal in the Hammondsport area. The Inn offers a full and hearty breakfast each morning--enough food that you may want to skip lunch. They are also more than accommodating for each member of our family's varied dietary preferences; both the vegans and carnivores left the table fully satisfied. We will definitely return, and maybe on our next visit we can hit that brewery!

The house is super historic and on the Register of Historic Landmarks as well. Everything is beautiful both inside and out. Our room didn't have a TV or fridge, but there is a TV and small fridge in the common area on the second floor. There are plenty of books, games, and puzzles. We enjoyed the beautiful weather by spending a lot of time outside. There is plenty of seating both out back and out front. We really can't say enough great things about our stay, and hope to come back again one day.

A perfect way to sum up a weekend stay at this lovely B&B in Hammondsport, NY. Located just steps away from Keuka Lake, the town of Hammondsport, and a short drive to local wineries in the area, the Blushing Rose is a great place to drop your bags, hang your hat, and get relaxin'. From the moment you walk in the door, you are greeted by the owners with warm smiles and "make yourself at home" assurance. The first floor has a living room area where there is a guest TV, books, brochures for all the local wineries and attractions, and menus for nearby restaurants. Just upstairs you pass a game room with a table and view of the front yard, to get to the guest area. There are four spacious guest bedrooms at the Blushing Rose, all with queen beds and their own bathroom (I believe one room has a private bathroom just outside the door). I liked the Starlight room with a comfortable lofted queen bed and canopy twirled with white lights that you can turn on and off with a button by the bed. The Starlight room had a seating area with views of the back garden, a closet armoire, and a mirrored dresser to store clothes if needed. Just down the hall is a hospitality area complete with a mini fridge stocked with water, and room to place your new purchases from the local wineries. There is a table stocked full of shampoos and other toiletries that you may have forgot to bring along, as well as an iron and hairdryers. (As a lady, I much appreciated this). When you check-in to the B&B, there is a plate in your room with freshly-baked cookies and other little snacks. When you return at night from dinner and a walk by the lake, there are adirondack chairs that you can lounge in with a burbling fountain and lake view, or you can sit out on the porch that overlooks the sleepy street. AND!-there is another plate of cookies (new varieties) and tea waiting in the dining area for a bedtime snack. I am a cookie fanatic, so I was so terribly happy trying each one of the chocolate chip, ginger sugar and peanut butter cookies waiting for me when I got "home." The organic and home-made breakfasts are also incredible. I always have fun at B&B's because of the creativity that the owners put into their breakfasts. The first breakfast was private, at the dining table, with slices of pumpkin bread pudding, fresh melon with raspberry puree, and a delicious eggs benedict on whole wheat, served on china. There was also orange juice, water, and coffee. Light seaside music plays in the background, reminding you that you are indeed on vacation. The second breakfast, we were joined by our fellow guests at the dining table. Breakfast was a raspberry bread, with a plate of strawberries, banana, kiwi and strawberry cream. Next came what I would describe as a boosted pancake, with berries and 100% natural maple syrup. It was fun to get to know other travelers and swap stories. As mentioned earlier, Marianne and Sam make you feel like you are at home, and breakfast was relaxed, with the conversation free-flowing. After check-out, you are sent home with a care-package and a good sense that you had a vacation.

I would sleep on the floor for Jeanette's breakfasts. And plan to order their homemade pizza and salad one night. It could be the best dinner of your trip. The house faces a gorgeous view of Lake Kueka, the Luna suite was spacious and comfortable, the bed was great, and each room has an en-suite bathroom. The whole house was spotless. We also took advantage of Steven's wine tour, letting him choose the destinations (excellent and varied) and drive so we could enjoy the tastings. He delivered a beautiful charcuterie board at our third stop. After a hard day of vineyard visits, we played pool, darts, and cornhole in Moonshadow's well stocked game room. Away from our temporary home, we visited the Cornell Lab of Ornithology, hiked to several waterfalls around Ithaca (Buttermilk Falls was our favorite), and enjoyed the Corning Museum of Glass. On Jeanette and Steven's recommendation, we stopped by the Muranda dairy farm in Waterloo for a cheese tasting. It was fabulous! Watkins Glen State Park is less than an hour away and you could even add a day trip to Niagara Falls. Whatever you do during the days, plan to start and end them at Moonshadow!

Five years from now, I expect she will be FS staff. Scott was our tour guide today and he is perfect at his job. He introduced us to the animal ambassadors and the mission of Farm Sanctuary's founding. My girls, their friend and myself loved interacting with the wonderful animals, learning their names, hearing about their origin stories and seeing how they've adjusted to the kindness of vegans after lives of suffering at human hands. I highly recommend anyone reading this make the trip to Farm Sanctuary someday. It's a life-affirming experience. YES : VEGAN AF YES : FAMILY FRIENDLY AF
