The tee boxes and fairways are in great shape, but the greens are not as great -- you can tell the course gets a lot of play because there all unrepaired ball marks everywhere. I loved the layout of the front nine, probably my favorite nine in the greater LA area. The back was fine, but not as memorable to me. I'd happily play it again and would recommend to all my golf friends. If the groundscrew (and people playing) can clean up some of the ball marks on the green to make them roll smooth, I'd definitely consider bumping this rating up to 5 stars.

After putting through water for multiple holes, decided to head back to the club house after hole 5. When asked for a rain check, was told by the pro shop that it "wasn't their policy to issue rain checks after you tee off." Nowhere on their website is this made up policy stated. This was a completely reasonable request that any course would have said yes to. Not Rustic Canyon. They clearly don't care about their golfers or their experience.

The course…read moreis almost always in excellent condition, and it offers a fun challenge for golfers of all skill levels. Overall, accuracy is key here, so be prepared to hit some quality shots if you want to score well. The front nine can be particularly challenging, with forced carries, tight landing areas, and a big emphasis on precision iron play. The back nine is a little more beginner-friendly, with more room to swing away with the driver. It's a nice balance that makes the course enjoyable while still testing your game. If you can get out during the week or take advantage of twilight rates, it's an especially good value. The biggest downside is the weekend pricing, which can get extremely expensive. Honestly, that's probably the main thing keeping this place from earning five stars from me. At the right price, it's hard to beat! The food at the clubhouse is also surprisingly good. You really can't go wrong with a breakfast burrito, and the salsa that comes with it is fantastic. It's a great spot to grab a bite before your round. Overall, Tierra Rejada is a fantastic course with great conditions, an interesting layout, and excellent clubhouse food. Just be prepared to bring your accuracy, and keep an eye on those weekend rates!

The course was nicely maintained, especially the grass, and even the golf cart seats were comfortable. There were also a few really fun holes where you had to hit a solid tee shot to carry over certain areas and reach the fairway. Overall, I really enjoyed the course, and I'm excited to try more golf courses and see if I can find one I like even more than this one.

The course is open to the public, but also has members like a typical country club, and I liked that many of the members seemed familiar with each other and the staff. Moorpark CC has three 9s, and I had the opportunity to play the Ridgeline and Creekside sides (first time on both). Both courses were in good shape, and the greens were very fast. Ridgeline is definitely the easier of the two courses -- it's generally wider, and there aren't nearly as many forced carries. Number five is a tricky blind tee shot if you've never played the course and don't know where to aim (aka my experience), but the rest of the holes are pretty straight up (though still challenging). Creekside was a beast -- not only is it narrower, but there are hazards on nearly both sides of every fairway, many of which are automatic unplayables (and some of which are unmarked), so your score can balloon quickly -- for reference, I shot +2 on Ridgeline and +11 on Creekside... There are a couple of very cool holes right in a row (a set of a par 4 up the mountain, a drivable par 4 off of a cliff, and a par 3 also off of an elevated tee), which was this side's saving grace for me. My only complaint is that the course doesn't seem to be marshaled. I was playing as a single (with a cart), and was stuck behind a not-very-good and slow foursome, who wouldn't let me play through and were taking their sweet time on every shot.

There are certain people that are kind but overall they make the experience so much worse by being so rude. They charge a $10 booking as well as a $10 walk in fee so there is no avoiding that. I understand that they are a course that has strict rules, i think that's great but there definitely needs to be improvements to make people want to go back. They also charge a spectator fee even if you don't golf at all. Me and another spectator that came got told multiple times that we could not be in our own cart and had to be with a golfer. Even when we would get out of the cart to discuss something or just sit in the same cart while we were stopped at a hole, one man was very rude in a cart with a red flag told us we would have to leave if we did that again. They are way over the top for a course like this. They think they are Pebble Beach or something. I'm surprised there's not a fee for talking to the staff or for calling.

We've been wanting to and had talked about it... but the day we went in and met Jennifer Frankel, we knew we had to join right then and there. Jennifer's awesome attitude embodies Wood Ranch. I have to also give a shout out to Glenn - the best Bar Master / Cocktail Chemist we've ever met. All in all, every employee here is stellar and they treat us like family. Wood Ranch was exactly what we expected - our home away from home; a place to make new life-long friends; and a place to go for an all-around great experience! Now where do I begin? The food? Ah, their new chef is incredible! The food is the best in Simi Valley with an ever-changing menu and top-quality ingredients. The drinks? Just ask Glenn and he will make it happen. He made Prosecco magically appear for me! The golf? The golf shop is well-stocked and the staff is very friendly and knowledgeable. The course? GORGEOUS! I won't lie. It's a ball-eater... but it's also extremely well-maintained and gorgeously groomed. And as I've been told on several occasions - if I learn to play on this course, I'll be able to play anywhere! But wait! There's more! Let's get to the meat of my review here - it's the friendships we've made that are indeed priceless. I joined the ladies 'Pitch N'Sip' league and am meeting some of the nicest, most fun women I have ever met. Another shout out to Stephanie, Ingi, Rita, Julia, Mary, Debbie, and the rest of the ladies... Thank you for making me feel welcome and part of your Wood Ranch family :-) Whether it's live music for happy hour, or a 5-star meal overlooking the pristine golf course, or relaxing in the sauna in the Ladies Locker Room, or enjoying a book in the private room inside the Ladies Locker Room, or attending one of their awesome events (wine tasting! comedy night!), Wood Ranch is an incredible place and I highly recommend you join if you have the opportunity. Remember to say 'Hello' to me in the bar - I'm the one sipping Prosecco ;-)
