Fisherman that didn't have a chance on Sunday
Leonard W.

We came out to Riverwalk on Sunday and today to walk our dog Bentley. Both days the weather was beautiful. Sunday was very crowded families setting up for barbecues. Lots of people like us walking their dogs and many just enjoying the shade reading a book or looking at their phones. The kids play area where all the toys are for the younger kids is fenced off. It's under construction. It looks like they're putting all new equipment in. It'll be nice when it's finished. There were some Hardy souls out there fishing, their chances were slim catching a fish today. Too much action on the lake, kids playing in the water radio control boats going by they had the ducks upset. I don't think the fish were very interested today. The park at Riverwalk has lots of shade perfect for grilling plenty of tables & benches some with freestanding charcoal barbecues. We spent about an hour out there got some exercise. Today Tuesday the park was different very peaceful and quiet, construction workers were back out working on the playground equipment. I still saw some fisherman The ducks were happy no radio controlled boats. the park is definitely more peaceful than last Sunday. We enjoyed both days and will return most likely again only during the week.

2026 5K Donut run at The River Walk is always a great turn out for these type of events. They usually have one every month if you want to sign up and run.

All this recent foggy weather has me extra thankful to have gems like this along the bikepath, meaning less driving for those with easy access to the path. Even through the cold and muggy weather they're always seems to be a great time going on at the Park at River Walk. The Ofiicial Artisan's Fair has been a great weekly addition to my weekends. It's always fun to see all of the folks fishing all year long. While the beginning of the year can be a busy time, the park at Riverwalk provides a nice vibrant space to enjoy a walk.

Beautiful Bakersfield Took the kids on down the "river walk" and let them run till it was bath time. I tell you what, if there was an award for nicest places in Bakersfield I think this might be top 5 and not 5. The ducks and geese were Super chill!!! Nobody got chased!!! Some of the people were a lil sketchy but it's a public park. I think my favorite part might have been the water fountains and the playground for the kids. Just like Chuck E. Cheese I'm sure I'll be back, like it or not.

This is a really great park to take a walk at or have a picnic. The path is paved; the grass is very green; and we can walk around the nice lakes. There is plenty of benches and shades to take breaks at.

This is the park besides my house and I honestly love it!! Dogs are allowed so I brought mine and we had so much fun the lake is clean also I think they restocked the fish inside there so you can fish too! I had a great experience.

This park is undoubtedly one of the best in Bakersfield, California. It is widely regarded as one of the safest and cleanest parks, making it an excellent choice for families looking to host events or for the city to organize community activities. Whether it's holiday celebrations, small concerts, Fourth of July fireworks, or Christmas festivities, this park can accommodate it all. You'll often see people walking, exercising, and walking their dogs. It's truly a great place to relax, enjoy a meal, or have a barbecue with family and friends. Most importantly, everyone here is simply enjoying their time together.

The park at river walk was OK. There's a lot of poop on the ground from the birds and the concrete benches hurt my butt, But the view of the water is nice and the trees are nice also .

Lovely walk by the outlet with ampitheatre

Had a lovely time walking our dog here! They have an ampitheatre, fountains, as well as toilets for public to use. x

Just a lovely park in the area. It's the perfect place for walking, running, cycling, hanging out, having a picnic, etc. Even though there are unhoused folks around, there are many more families and people getting a workout in so it feels pretty safe, even in the evening. The bathrooms near the playground however, do need TLC, especially on weekends when long lines form and bath tissue runs out! Overall, I enjoy coming here to exercise a couple of times per week.

I had a blast here. Will definitely be coming back soon. There were plenty of places to sit, eat, and chill.

River Walk park has been a staple park back when I resided in Bakersfield. We went back for the Water Lantern Festival and glad to see that there was some EV charging for the car! So while we had fun, the car was also charging :) There were lots of parking and nearby stores like Sephora, Target, Crumbl Cookies, etc. Very lovely park!

Nice and clean park. Only thing that's I had a issue with is the homeless. Be aware when walking around!

Ask the Community - The Park At River Walk

I'm new to Bakersfield, would this park be worth taking a RC boat onto one of the lakes or the stream?

Sure. Some people fish. I'm sure that would be ok.

My family and I will be visiting this park very soon for a family reunion. Can anyone suggest a nice hotel that is close to this park?

Homewood Suites

Is it a good place fore fishing?

I have never been fishing here.

We generally walk the outer edges of the shade in order to avoid the sun and the heat. The park is clean, including the restrooms. The times we have been here there were no encampments of those down on their luck. The outer perimeter of this park is somewhere like 1200 steps if you are counting. With the mature trees present, about 70% of this walking is in the shade if you go in the morning.

Ten years ago, when my youngest brother was still in high school, we would raid the deli department at Vons and have picnics here on the grass under one of the many shade trees. Parking here is a little tricky. You can park along the curb on the West side on Patton (east side is marked no parking) or you can turn West onto Maleta, then North onto Gallio to park in the lot next to the elementary school. There are individual picnic tables spread randomly throughout the park under the trees, some with their own individual barbecue grills. There is also a large covered area shading a number of long picnic tables which were being used for a children's birthday party on the Sunday I was there with a large bouncy house set up nearby for their entertainment. The group picnic shelter, with a capacity of 80 people, can be reserved by contacting the NOR Parks & Recreation District at 392-2020 and filling out an application form. The cost for reserving the picnic shelter is $15 per hour, with a minimum 3 hour reservation. You can access the application at http://norfun.org/wp-content/uploads/2014/10/FR-100-Use-of-Facility-Online-Packet.pdf There are public restrooms located nearby. There a a number of recreational options available at this park. There is plenty of playground equipment available for kids of all sizes, some with bark below and some with a rubberized safety surface. There is a basketball half court complete with one basket that has a net. There is also an area for playing horseshoes with poles on either end. There is also a huge grassy area suitable for playing soccer (there was a group playing there this Sunday), picnicking, or for just running around. It has something to appeal to everyone in the family! There is even a geocache hidden somewhere within the park. Yes, I've found it, but I'm not giving you any clues, so don't ask. At 12.4 acres, this park can accommodate quite a few weekend picnickers and sports enthusiasts and the same time.

Usually regulars will tie extra poop bags to the fence and bring bottles of water. Because this park is a sump, garbage can sometimes wind up at the bottom of the park, but it's maintained weekly and is usually pretty clean for a dog park. The one thing this place NEEDS desperately is more signage about the rules. Last Sunday, July 11, 2021 we arrived around 8am and found a group of about 20 boys and 4 coaches having football practice. Usually I wouldn't mind this type of thing and welcome the socialization for the dogs, but the kids were not properly talked to about respecting the dog park. One of the boys opened the fence gate and let both of my dogs out, who of course then bolted out into the busy street. I feel that this could have been avoided if there were proper signs about closing the fence and being mindful of the dogs. Especially because this dog park is just the small fenced in area of a larger park, I feel like they could play anywhere and dogs really just have this one spot.
