This is where i got my dog. Was walking here with my now ex husband when i saw the cutest little dog walking along a family. Said how cute he was and they asked if i wanted him. They had found him running around the street on a rainy night and already had too many pets and a kid and were looking for a loving home. Rest is history. 16 years later i moved down to Orange County and am about to put my dog down. It's been the greatest blessing of my life to be a mom to my dog Jake! Thank you to the wonderful family who gave me this dog to love for the past 16 years. He's now deaf and almost completely blind and almost made it to 18 years old. I wish i could go back one more time to the park with him but he hates car rides now. He used to love this park. read more

Kroll Park has a large gated area for dogs to run around and socialize. My family loves to take our dog, Goose, here often. There's benches, poop bags (I'd recommend bringing your own bags just in case), shady trees, water stations, small hills, and lots of running space. I like that this park offers a playground for kiddos, but I do feel like the park etiquette can be lacking sometimes. Usually there's no issue bringing Goose to the dog park area, but there have been a couple times that we've had to pull him out earlier than planned because kids would come in to the dog park with bikes or scooters. For safety reasons of both kids and pets, I do wish that this wasn't so much of a worry. It is what it is though. Be kind, courteous, and don't forget to pick up after your pet :) read more

Great park for the dogs and I guess people too. I wouldn't say it is the best place for small kids but everyone has their own opinions on that. The variety of dogs here is tremendous. You get the usual boxer and labs but there are a few out of the ordinary cool breeds that people bring. From the few times I have been here it does seem like all of the owners know if their dog is good with dogs or people but I have seen the occasional oblivious owner that thinks it's the other dogs faults that their dog is acting up. If your dog isn't good with dogs don't bring them to an open dog park. The park has two water faucets made for humans and dogs and it is a pick up after yourself park which people tend to forget or be oblivious that their dog craps like every other dog in the park. If you a within a few miles of this park it is probably the best place in town to bring your dog to run them down for the day. read more

My comment is specifically for the DOG park itself, and has nothing to do with the "playground" park for children which is RIGHT NEXT to the dog park. It seems to be a growing problem at this park, so I would ask that anyone with small toddlers and/or INFANT babies, please, stay out of it! This specifically, "fenced-in" area of the park is for DOGS!! The responsible dog owners that frequent this park are busy enough keeping an eye on their dogs, as well as every other dog in the park. They should NOT be burdened with the added task of making sure that your children don't get hurt while inside the DOG park! It's ridiculous! There is a playground area, specifically built for children, right on the other side of the fence?! They are YOUR children, therefore, they are YOUR responsibility! Not mine!! Most of the people that frequent this park are very friendly and nice, but there is a group of incredibly hateful people that come here too, so try to keep away from them. FYI. read more

When my husband and I adopted our dog from the shelter, we quickly realized we were going to need more than just walks on a leash to keep our lab/border collie mix properly exercised. We searched out nearby dog parks and found Kroll Park. The rest is history. Located just off Gosford in the Stockdale area, Kroll park is a quiet area, next to an elementary school and city park. The dog park is actually a sump for the surrounding neighborhood. With the exception of rainy days, all this means is that the base area of the park is surrounded by side slopes that can make for some entertaining dog rolling down the hill. A narrow walking path loops around the interior just next to the fence, so if Fido doesn't want to run and play, you can walk while he trails behind. Having visited other dog parks out of town with our pooch, we've quickly realized just how good Kroll Park is. For starters, a grass environment beats a wood chip park any day. While it may mean it can be slippery or muddy after rain (or after big rains, a dog lake), it also means summers are far more pleasant, and there is no risk of sharp pieces causing issues with your dog's paws. Trees are ample enough to provide shade during hot summer months, and some limited seating is available for the humans. Water bins are available, and most patrons are pretty good about rinsing them out whenever they get dirty. A hose is available to use to rinse off muddy paws as you leave, and a double gate is found on both sides of the park for secure exit and entry. As with any public space, the people vary. Yes, some don't pick up after their pets, but on the whole we've met dozens of friendly people (and pups!). Most owners are good sports when other dogs get a bit snippy, and we've rarely had issues with people not controlling their pets. Doggie bags are provided to pick up after pets, and extra tennis balls and toys can be found in the storage bin near the northern fence entrance. Let your pooch run free and visit Kroll to make some new furry friends at this rather excellent city dog park. read more

I have taken my dog here a few times since I adopted her in July and this place is really nice. I have not come across any wild or unfriendly dogs, so far all the dogs are pretty well behaved and are pretty friendly. The park is huge and a wonderful place for your dog to stretch their legs and roam around meeting other dogs. I wish I could come more often and bring my dog as it is a very nice park to run and play. If your dog gets along w other dogs then you won't have any problems here as all the dogs are very nice and well behaved. It does get pretty busy but there's always enough room. read more

This a huge dog park. It's usually clean, with lots of poop bags around for pickup. There are definitely busy times at the park, which depending on your dog could be a good or bad thing. My issue is with the people who frequent this park. WHY on earth would you bring little kids to a dog park?? Unless you're going to have your eyes on them at ALL TIMES and they are glued to your side, don't bring your children. And especially don't let them run around and chase dogs unsupervised. Not all dogs are good with children and that's often because small children aren't good with dogs. There have been a few occasions now where we've had to leave because we see kids running around in the dog park unattended. There is a playground right next to the dog park. Bring your kids there please!! read more

Perfect "Off the Leash" place to bring my dogs since I don't have a backyard anymore and my dogs can't seem to use the bathroom on the leash. Very big field for the dogs to run around and there is a dirt path at the top of the field where you can take walks while your dogs enjoy the freedom. There are also a few chairs to sit at along with a nice park outside the gates for young children to play at. The neighborhood seems very safe and quite and plenty of parking on the streets and free dog poop bags. Only thing I don't like is that there are a lot of poop that the pet owners did not pick up, so make sure to watch your steps and there isn't a separation from big dogs and small so keep your eyes on those pesky little dogs who like to pick fights with big dogs. read more

Well, color me impressed. I was hesitant to take my puppy here but some friends and neighbors swear by this park. Now that my pup has had all her shots, it was time to go scope it out. I think I was mostly worried about aggressive dogs and irresponsible owners of such dogs. My confidence was boosted even more after speaking to the nice folks at the park last night. The park is nestled in a quaint, quiet neighborhood where there is a lot of parking on the street. The park has a track for owners to walk, about a quarter mile so, great for exercise for us people. It is hilly but one can see 360 degrees from all areas. Love this, no bends or surprises. The park is not stunningly beautiful but there are some trees, picnic tables and is very functional. My dog adored her time at the park today and and meeting all her new friends, 2 legged and furry alike. I like that there are water fountains for the dogs so I can leave the heavy water bottles at home and I did think it was great that poop bags were everywhere hanging on the fences and at stations near the garbage cans. Now, if everyone would use them, this would be a 5 star review! The park is a happy place - you rarely even hear barking! My dog told me in the car, she gives 2 paws up and cannot wait to go back tomorrow! (Update after several check ins - I have now witnessed a few "incidents" where aggressive dogs are accompanied by somewhat lax and irresponsible owners. It is very stressful on the pups and people when smaller dogs are attacked and ganged up on. Be aware, bring your leash for quick exits and note that some dogs are not wearing collars. Also, some dog owners are not even present at the park to control their pets) read more

Where are all my dog loving people? Oh wait theyre here woth their dogs at this dog park! Best dog park in good old Bakersfield, hands down. Is your pupper bored and full of energy? or just in need of a good little stroll? Likes to run? Play with other puppers? Bring them here!! So so so many cute dogs of all breeds, sizes, and personalities. I have been coming here for a few years now and am so pleased with how kept up and nice they keep the park and surrounding area. My dogs are obsessed with coming here and get too excited when they see us turn into the neighborhood off of Stockdale because they know exactly where theyre headed and how much fun theyre about to have. There are doggy-poo baggies in stations so you can grab a few right wwhen you walk in. Hang your leashes on the fence and bam you've just entered heaven (basically) lol There are numerous benches to sit and relax on and also water bowls for the pupps. read more

This is probably one of my favorite dog parks where you can have your dog go off leash. There is a children's playground next to it, which is convenient if you also have a child that wants to go play, but in all fun that is good, my kids have a lot of fun playing in the dog area than the playground. The metal fence is well kept and the grounds are for the most part pretty clean. They provide water and bags to clean up after any dog messes. Whenever we visit this dog park we see a lot of huskies and other bigger dogs. All dogs that we have come across are pretty good natured. Since we have a girl GSD, we've only encountered once where a darker colored Husky tried to mount her, which we had to intervene- we don't want puppies! But other than that, I'd recommend this dog park to fellow dog owners. read more

Good to bring your own bags and poop scoops as other reviewers mentioned, however, there are some bags available here in a stationed section as well as some doggy bags inserted along the dog park's circumference on the fence. Located in a clean, attractive neighborhood-all the pet owners and dogs have been friendly encounters so far. Rocks, benches, chairs, and trees are plentiful. Yet, it can get very muddy, and the grass and earth are not perfectly even-so just be careful when walking. I just wish more people would pick up after their dogs. I've seen several owners picking up their pet's waste, but more often I see the dog running off on its own (which is perfectly fine!) and relieving himself or herself in a corner where the pet owner might not be aware of or might not notice; perhaps the owner is walking farther behind or chit chatting with someone on a cornered bench or something. I have had an accident of stepping in the muck; no bueno! I am always close at hand to my dog and I pinpoint everywhere he is so that I am sure to catch him in order to clean up his mess. The only place so far where I've had luck with no waste left behind is Rosie's dog beach in Long Beach- but not at a dog park. Happy walking! read more

Our rescue dog learned aggressive play from other dogs at this park. In the beginning, he was timid and shy. Now he runs with the pack and, to my disappointment, has a snort/growl that is disconcerting not just to me, but to new people at the park. For three years he has found other dogs who like to play in this way. I stay close to him at all times to admonish him and pull him away if need be. Yesterday a group of new people in expensive new cars and truck stayed in the shade to talk to one another, never leaving the spot while their dogs wandered. The Dobie was basically good natured, but a few times the play turned into more of a free for all verging on a fight. Lots of yelling from the owners, bug not once did they walk the perimeter. When my dog began growling and playing in the way he was accustomed with his dog pals, with a new dog, a woman in the shade began to say he was a mean and aggressive dog. Aggressive? Yes, but in a playful manner under the watchful eye of his owners. Mean? Not at all. When attacked by other dogs at the park he has run away quickly. When over aggressive while playing, I pull him back and deal with it. You can't show up at a park to socialize with your friends. You are there to exercise your dog and keep a close watch. Don't make accusations about a dog's behavior to the owner if you have never seen the dog before. By the way, all dogs MUST BE neutered to be in the park. read more

This is a large and lovely Park. However, there are several irresponsible owners who let their dogs run off and stay to the side chatting away. Every time my small dogs are attacked the owner of the larger dog is on the opposite side of the park yelling their dogs name. On Saturday, 5/21/2016, my partner and I took our three dogs to the park. We are always with our dogs, we walk around and avoid larger dogs since they usually get very curious and scare our dogs. Twice before our dogs were attacked, each time the owner and the dog disappear. This time a doberman ran over and sniffed our small pomeranian, who is young and loves large dogs unlike our other dog cocoa who is a chihuahua. The doberman started to growl and then stomp on our dog, the owner called out that that is how the dog plays. Listen, I get that larger breeds play differently, but every time a large Breed owner has a dog act aggressively to a small breed they claim it's because "it thinks it's a small dog" well this dog started to bite our pomeranian the owner called the dog and it wasn't until we started to scream that he came over to yank his dog away. Then a pit bull came over and tried to yank our pomeranian from our arms. The owner of the pitt grabbed him and put him on a leash, he also took off. As we finally grabbed our pomeranian we hear our other dog cocoa being attacked by several dogs, she was practically screaming. I tried to get her to come to me and after a few minutes of running around she finally jumped into my arms. We left and I had a few choice words for everyone there. People laughed and joked, but no one grabbed their dogs, no one tired to help. We got home and noticed cocoa had a gash on her right side. So please, if you have a small dog take them somewhere else. We don't gave a small dog park around us, but I'm personally traumatized after this and don't trust other owners. Look for another park because most of the owners here use this as a social playground and don't watch their dogs. read more

**This review is strictly for the Leash Free Dog Park area** My family and I adopted a puppy a few months back and she hasn't been to a park like this until today. She's been to River Walk Park and around our neighborhood but the level of interaction with other dogs let alone adult dogs has never been this way. This a "Leash Free" park were you let your dog run freely amongst the gates area. Now keep in my that our dog is actually a puppy and only four months old. All of the dogs here were adults ranging from chihuahuas to Dobermans to Rottweilers. I would say there were about 20 dogs here and all are well behaved and playful with both humans and other dogs. My puppy Dobby was scared to death since this is her first interaction with other dogs. Almost everyone here was friendly, some were a little irked when my puppy wanted to acknowledge them. In this park as it is at every park you are expected to pick up after your dog. Some people just don't follow that rule. This was a great experience for both our family and our puppy. We will be returning again probably next Saturday or Sunday. read more

Pros: Overall it's a great park. TONS of room to run and meet other friendly furry friends. Water fountain is all set up and dog level. Dirt like track around its perimeter which is good to walk off long runs. Cons: My biggest concern is that of others dogs and their owners. People will just leave there dogs in the dog park then go watch their kids on the parallel structure. No consideration to pick up their dogs poop or make sure their dogs are playing well with others. I don't have a problem with kids I work with them for Christ sake but you can't have your cake and eat it to. Secondly, don't bring aggressive dogs to the dog park. I have been to Kroll 4 times now and 2/4 times I went I saw dogs getting into altercations. This is a SERIOUS concern for me because I have a small breed dog that was attacked a year and a half ago. My dog is 15 lbs and loves big dogs regardless of the accident that occurred. In fact he loves nothing more then finding the biggest dogs in the park and saying "Hi." I know it's my choice to take my dog to a dog park but it OTHERS responsibility to control their dogs. So to future attendees beware! read more

When it comes to dog parks, we fancy ourselves as real fans. I look for them in my travels, and Bakersfield's Kroll Park does not disappoint, Amazing. HUGE park, and even with its largeness, you can always see your pooch, and if they like to walk with you, there is a trail that circles the entire park. This is only a guess, but I would think it is about 50 acres. Lots of grass, a pretty trail, lots of chairs to enjoy while the dogs play. And plenty of water for your furry friend. Bring your own poop bags, as they are not in abundance here. Very safe looking neighborhood in the midst of residential housing. Lots of free parking too. Double gated "sallyport" entry, means bowser connot escape easily. Other than the great friends I was able to visit while in Bakersfield, this was the highlight of our visit to the area. You are lucky folks, Bakersfielders. Lucky, indeed. In a nutshell: The Good 1. Plenty of free parking 2. Huge park, fully fenced and double gated 3. Lots of grass 4. Plenty of seating A suggestion to locals. 1. Some do good citizenry could buy a couple pooper scoopers and donate them to this wonderful park. The Bad? Not a thing! read more

In theory, this is a great dog park: it's open and spacious but it's a huge mud pit and a breeding ground for fleas. I don't mind mud but this place needs some fixing up.
