Great park for the dogs and I guess people too. I wouldn't say it is the best place for small kids but everyone has their own opinions on that. The variety of dogs here is tremendous. You get the usual boxer and labs but there are a few out of the ordinary cool breeds that people bring. From the few times I have been here it does seem like all of the owners know if their dog is good with dogs or people but I have seen the occasional oblivious owner that thinks it's the other dogs faults that their dog is acting up. If your dog isn't good with dogs don't bring them to an open dog park. The park has two water faucets made for humans and dogs and it is a pick up after yourself park which people tend to forget or be oblivious that their dog craps like every other dog in the park. If you a within a few miles of this park it is probably the best place in town to bring your dog to run them down for the day.

The park gets pretty soggy after rains since it doubles as a sump. You can see the water lines on the rocks from the rain.

When my husband and I adopted our dog from the shelter, we quickly realized we were going to need more than just walks on a leash to keep our lab/border collie mix properly exercised. We searched out nearby dog parks and found Kroll Park. The rest is history. Located just off Gosford in the Stockdale area, Kroll park is a quiet area, next to an elementary school and city park. The dog park is actually a sump for the surrounding neighborhood. With the exception of rainy days, all this means is that the base area of the park is surrounded by side slopes that can make for some entertaining dog rolling down the hill. A narrow walking path loops around the interior just next to the fence, so if Fido doesn't want to run and play, you can walk while he trails behind. Having visited other dog parks out of town with our pooch, we've quickly realized just how good Kroll Park is. For starters, a grass environment beats a wood chip park any day. While it may mean it can be slippery or muddy after rain (or after big rains, a dog lake), it also means summers are far more pleasant, and there is no risk of sharp pieces causing issues with your dog's paws. Trees are ample enough to provide shade during hot summer months, and some limited seating is available for the humans. Water bins are available, and most patrons are pretty good about rinsing them out whenever they get dirty. A hose is available to use to rinse off muddy paws as you leave, and a double gate is found on both sides of the park for secure exit and entry. As with any public space, the people vary. Yes, some don't pick up after their pets, but on the whole we've met dozens of friendly people (and pups!). Most owners are good sports when other dogs get a bit snippy, and we've rarely had issues with people not controlling their pets. Doggie bags are provided to pick up after pets, and extra tennis balls and toys can be found in the storage bin near the northern fence entrance. Let your pooch run free and visit Kroll to make some new furry friends at this rather excellent city dog park.

Love this park! We come 3-5 days a week most people are pretty nice but you always get a few weirdos and freaks anywhere you go! Just make sure you always got an eye on your dog. Don't be that person that's always got you back turned to your dog it's so annoying!

went here on my dogs birthday!

i love that it's completely gated and is nice to let my dog run while i can walk laps around and get my steps in. sort of wish it had a small dog section but most of the dogs/owners are nice.

This a huge dog park. It's usually clean, with lots of poop bags around for pickup. There are definitely busy times at the park, which depending on your dog could be a good or bad thing. My issue is with the people who frequent this park. WHY on earth would you bring little kids to a dog park?? Unless you're going to have your eyes on them at ALL TIMES and they are glued to your side, don't bring your children. And especially don't let them run around and chase dogs unsupervised. Not all dogs are good with children and that's often because small children aren't good with dogs. There have been a few occasions now where we've had to leave because we see kids running around in the dog park unattended. There is a playground right next to the dog park. Bring your kids there please!!

Perfect "Off the Leash" place to bring my dogs since I don't have a backyard anymore and my dogs can't seem to use the bathroom on the leash. Very big field for the dogs to run around and there is a dirt path at the top of the field where you can take walks while your dogs enjoy the freedom. There are also a few chairs to sit at along with a nice park outside the gates for young children to play at. The neighborhood seems very safe and quite and plenty of parking on the streets and free dog poop bags. Only thing I don't like is that there are a lot of poop that the pet owners did not pick up, so make sure to watch your steps and there isn't a separation from big dogs and small so keep your eyes on those pesky little dogs who like to pick fights with big dogs.

Well, color me impressed. I was hesitant to take my puppy here but some friends and neighbors swear by this park. Now that my pup has had all her shots, it was time to go scope it out. I think I was mostly worried about aggressive dogs and irresponsible owners of such dogs. My confidence was boosted even more after speaking to the nice folks at the park last night. The park is nestled in a quaint, quiet neighborhood where there is a lot of parking on the street. The park has a track for owners to walk, about a quarter mile so, great for exercise for us people. It is hilly but one can see 360 degrees from all areas. Love this, no bends or surprises. The park is not stunningly beautiful but there are some trees, picnic tables and is very functional. My dog adored her time at the park today and and meeting all her new friends, 2 legged and furry alike. I like that there are water fountains for the dogs so I can leave the heavy water bottles at home and I did think it was great that poop bags were everywhere hanging on the fences and at stations near the garbage cans. Now, if everyone would use them, this would be a 5 star review! The park is a happy place - you rarely even hear barking! My dog told me in the car, she gives 2 paws up and cannot wait to go back tomorrow! (Update after several check ins - I have now witnessed a few "incidents" where aggressive dogs are accompanied by somewhat lax and irresponsible owners. It is very stressful on the pups and people when smaller dogs are attacked and ganged up on. Be aware, bring your leash for quick exits and note that some dogs are not wearing collars. Also, some dog owners are not even present at the park to control their pets)

Frolicking doggies.

Good to bring your own bags and poop scoops as other reviewers mentioned, however, there are some bags available here in a stationed section as well as some doggy bags inserted along the dog park's circumference on the fence. Located in a clean, attractive neighborhood-all the pet owners and dogs have been friendly encounters so far. Rocks, benches, chairs, and trees are plentiful. Yet, it can get very muddy, and the grass and earth are not perfectly even-so just be careful when walking. I just wish more people would pick up after their dogs. I've seen several owners picking up their pet's waste, but more often I see the dog running off on its own (which is perfectly fine!) and relieving himself or herself in a corner where the pet owner might not be aware of or might not notice; perhaps the owner is walking farther behind or chit chatting with someone on a cornered bench or something. I have had an accident of stepping in the muck; no bueno! I am always close at hand to my dog and I pinpoint everywhere he is so that I am sure to catch him in order to clean up his mess. The only place so far where I've had luck with no waste left behind is Rosie's dog beach in Long Beach- but not at a dog park. Happy walking!

today was the first time I've been to this park and I love it!!!! Its big and clean. FYI there are bag there to pick up after your dog. The downside is it does get muddy so wear old shoes and it has no bathrooms.

This is a great park and better dog park. Large off leash area with lots of running area. Be careful coming after a rain though.

Big open space, with a lot of friendly dogs. Only negatives are the children brought in, no bathrooms, and limited water.

Usually regulars will tie extra poop bags to the fence and bring bottles of water. Because this park is a sump, garbage can sometimes wind up at the bottom of the park, but it's maintained weekly and is usually pretty clean for a dog park. The one thing this place NEEDS desperately is more signage about the rules. Last Sunday, July 11, 2021 we arrived around 8am and found a group of about 20 boys and 4 coaches having football practice. Usually I wouldn't mind this type of thing and welcome the socialization for the dogs, but the kids were not properly talked to about respecting the dog park. One of the boys opened the fence gate and let both of my dogs out, who of course then bolted out into the busy street. I feel that this could have been avoided if there were proper signs about closing the fence and being mindful of the dogs. Especially because this dog park is just the small fenced in area of a larger park, I feel like they could play anywhere and dogs really just have this one spot.

I come in the morning and have found a tampon and used condom. There is plastic around the sewer grates that is torn. There is often trash by the sewer openings. There are times the poop bags have ran out for awhile not being refilled. Sometimes it floods and stinks like sewage and the dogs can get their paws black from it. When it floods bad during raining times they lock it up. Some people leave styrofoam coffee cups, poop from their dogs, and broken toys. I wished this park had a bathroom. Regulars are very nice. Benches on each side, shade from trees on one side is nice and dog/people drinking fountain. I am thankful to have it so large because I have big dogs that love to run and play.

First off, I do not own a dog,…read morehowever, I do work for dog rescue and my friend has a dog that we bring here from time to time for exercise and play. We have come a few times and it was nice, no issues. However, today was different. There were several Husky dogs that were being rather aggressive to other dogs. The owners, one an obese, Hispanic male, was being a bully as well. There were several other Hispanic males who told me and my friend to take our dog elsewhere if we didn't like it. We left and so did another girl who observed the entire situation. No one cared that they were bullies and I am writing this to warn anyone who goes there to beware of them. Their dogs are mean and aggressive and the fat "brute" bully does nothing and won't control his dog. He gave me several death threat looks and if I would have been armed with pepper spray, I may have used it. We wanted no trouble and left quickly. I am really nervous to go back. It is a nice and beautiful park although, there are no bathrooms and also many people do not pick up their dog's poop. Pros-beautiful dog park, has nice benches to sit on and pretty grass. Con's-No bathrooms or shade, sometimes poop not picked up, mean bullies who are hateful with aggressive dogs. There was a girl there that the bully's dogs were trying to bite and pick on. The poor dog was crying but the girl did nothing. So odd that people won't fight for their own animals. I wanted to call the cops but saw no point. If you see people like this with a Husky, I urge you to report him. I am not sure to whom though. Enter at your own risk. Take pepper spray and be on guard. Never know when the mean, fat bully might return.

It was only a moderately hot day by Bakersfield standards, 85 according to weatherbug, but still a little hot to be eating outdoors in the sun. Luckily for me, this park has abundance of picnic tables with large shady trees close at hand. I was not the only one enjoying a picnic in the park that day, but the picnic tables (there had to be at least 20 of them) were arranged far enough apart that we all had at least a modicum of privacy. There were also a number of charcoal grilling stations sprinkled throughout the picnic areas - at least 10 of them, and I could smell hamburgers and hot dogs roasting on them. There was a large grassy area where a couple was exercising their large dogs. Yes, they were off the leash but they were having a great time bounding about and didn't bother any of the picnickers. There was a large area with playground equipment for both small and large children which I believe had sand beneath it to guard against injuries from falls. There were also basketball courts and a public restroom. There were a number of families with children out enjoying the relatively moderate weather. There was a covered area with picnic tables and people had set up a number of tent/gazebo like structures to give them shade. It was a surprisingly impromptu and lovely outing in the park. I can't believe I've never stopped here before, but I'm sure I'll be back!
