It's funny that I have lived in Bakersfield now for 8yrs and at one point I had worked in downtown Bakersfield for 10yrs and never even knew about this park til recently. Funny that Pokémon was the reason I found out about this gorgeous park. The area is pretty big and they have tons of grass area for picnic, they have people fishing as they have a nice size lake in the middle of it all. The only reason I didn't give this park a 5star is because the park could be much more cleaner, but there's tons of trash being thrown everywhere and the garbage bins are just a few feet away from where things are thrown. On some days though, you can find the park to be really clean and beautiful. I do see a lot of people getting dolled up for pictures as the lake and scenery is gorgeous for pictures. Tons of PokéStops and Gyms for all you Pokémon trainers out there.

This is an adorable little park located in downtown Bakersfield. I visited Central Park at Mill Creak with a friend recently and saw families out enjoying the park in spite of the chilly 55 degree weather. There is a large play structure that was swarming with kids with conveniently located benches for parents to sit and watch and even clean bathrooms. There is a large creek, though it didn't seem to be flowing, topped with a quaint little covered bridge (see pictures). There were ducks and coots everywhere being fed scraps of bread by children who were laughing and giggling at their antics. I'm not sure how nutritionally sound a diet of bread is for a duck, but the kids were happy and so were the ducks, so who am I to interfere? I've been told that there are farmers' markets and vendors that set up at this park, but I'll have to look into when they take place. My guess is during much warmer weather. It's very pleasant to walk through this park and there is ample parking available which is not usually the case so close to downtown. Think of it as a little green oasis in the middle of downtown.

Cute park. It looks like it was recently made or remade. All the playground equipment looks new. The slides are smaller for younger kids (ages 1-7yrs) but there are swings and monkey bars my kids loved as well. Lots of trees and lawn area. My husband and son played catch for awhile. The crowning jewel is the Creek/Pond. Its beautiful and there are a couple bridges and fountains. Very peaceful and calming. Lots of ducks and geese. All the waterways are fenced by a decorative fence. That makes it nice for families with younger children. No one would accidentally fall in. My daughter and I walked down the path quite a ways. It looks like it might go further into town but we didn't get too far.

Okay I have to update my review. They've really cleaned this place up in the last few months. I actually enjoy taking my little ones here now and have been having a great time coming here. Also, Larry mentioned there is a farmers market here once a month that I am looking forward to going to.

Nice park, but the homeless sleeping around keeps us from going back. And the playground seems dirty too.

We generally walk the outer edges of the shade in order to avoid the sun and the heat. The park is clean, including the restrooms. The times we have been here there were no encampments of those down on their luck. The outer perimeter of this park is somewhere like 1200 steps if you are counting. With the mature trees present, about 70% of this walking is in the shade if you go in the morning.

Ten years ago, when my youngest brother was still in high school, we would raid the deli department at Vons and have picnics here on the grass under one of the many shade trees. Parking here is a little tricky. You can park along the curb on the West side on Patton (east side is marked no parking) or you can turn West onto Maleta, then North onto Gallio to park in the lot next to the elementary school. There are individual picnic tables spread randomly throughout the park under the trees, some with their own individual barbecue grills. There is also a large covered area shading a number of long picnic tables which were being used for a children's birthday party on the Sunday I was there with a large bouncy house set up nearby for their entertainment. The group picnic shelter, with a capacity of 80 people, can be reserved by contacting the NOR Parks & Recreation District at 392-2020 and filling out an application form. The cost for reserving the picnic shelter is $15 per hour, with a minimum 3 hour reservation. You can access the application at http://norfun.org/wp-content/uploads/2014/10/FR-100-Use-of-Facility-Online-Packet.pdf There are public restrooms located nearby. There a a number of recreational options available at this park. There is plenty of playground equipment available for kids of all sizes, some with bark below and some with a rubberized safety surface. There is a basketball half court complete with one basket that has a net. There is also an area for playing horseshoes with poles on either end. There is also a huge grassy area suitable for playing soccer (there was a group playing there this Sunday), picnicking, or for just running around. It has something to appeal to everyone in the family! There is even a geocache hidden somewhere within the park. Yes, I've found it, but I'm not giving you any clues, so don't ask. At 12.4 acres, this park can accommodate quite a few weekend picnickers and sports enthusiasts and the same time.

Usually regulars will tie extra poop bags to the fence and bring bottles of water. Because this park is a sump, garbage can sometimes wind up at the bottom of the park, but it's maintained weekly and is usually pretty clean for a dog park. The one thing this place NEEDS desperately is more signage about the rules. Last Sunday, July 11, 2021 we arrived around 8am and found a group of about 20 boys and 4 coaches having football practice. Usually I wouldn't mind this type of thing and welcome the socialization for the dogs, but the kids were not properly talked to about respecting the dog park. One of the boys opened the fence gate and let both of my dogs out, who of course then bolted out into the busy street. I feel that this could have been avoided if there were proper signs about closing the fence and being mindful of the dogs. Especially because this dog park is just the small fenced in area of a larger park, I feel like they could play anywhere and dogs really just have this one spot.
