This is an amazing park! It was so green and plenty of space for people to get their own spot. I went in the afternoon, so it was hot! There were a lot of ducks in the lake. I plan to come back another time to enjoy the scenery in the morning. read more

Amazing trail running with a stunning poppy field we happened to stumble across. Great for people who just want to take a nice stroll as well. There are bathrooms near the bottom of the trail and within the park if you need them. My only complaint was that the gun range nearby can be really loud, though people aren't always there. I'll definitely be back for the incline and the views. read more

Hart Memorial Park, I want to say this is one of the best parks around the Bakersfield area. It's a short drive off Panorama Drive but beautiful scenery this time of the year. The park has a lot of activities, hiking, fishing, photography, feeding the Ducks and Geese, frisbee, soccer, bbq, the list goes on. It's definitely for that solo adventure or family fun. It is a mission for us to come to Hart Park so it is rare when we come here. My husband will make the trip more often to fish. We sometimes tag along since we can come early, get a table or two, set up our canopy and grill. We can get a few hours in before it gets too busy. If it gets too busy, some people might squeeze in next to you or some kids might just jump in the water and scare the fish. It's a risk you take going to Hart Park. This review is two fold the park gets 5 stars for what it is an oasis. There are no rides or attractions (except for the nature center and the peacocks). But if you need to decompress this hits the spot. There are family areas a few kids playgrounds and picnic tables. For as little as the city cares about this gem it is a great place. The other reviews is for the visitors and they get negative stars. The trash generated after a summer weekend is embarrassing. People drive too fast through the park and the enforcement rarely does anything. People have to slow down and watch out for animals. read more

This was my first hike in Bakersfield and I absolutely loved it. The trails at Hart Park led to some unexpected stunning views. It's not a strenuous hike, about a mile and a half up, but there is a bit of elevation gain as you get near the top. It's definitely fun and worth hiking all the way up for pretty views, especially when the weather is nice and cool. There is some shade as you go through the canyon, but most of the trails are sun exposed. This is the perfect short hike for a weekday late afternoon, when it isn't crowded at all. Just be mindful of the people on bikes; cyclists seem to love these trails too and I can totally see why! read more

I used to come here as a child and there were beautiful peacocks and people fishing and honestly it was magical. Currently it isn't quite as I remembered, no one was fishing today. Most people were hiking or grilling and I think maybe a motorcycle club and low rider club was visiting. The peacocks are gone and replaced with cats . There's a lot of old structures that are just beautiful that aren't really of much use anymore . This is a great place to visit for recreational use , it's clean and I didn't notice any graffiti. I did notice some bathrooms were boarded up, so maybe be prepared to walk a bit to find a usable one . read more

I bring my dogs here as often as I can. Lovely park, very well maintained. If you find yourself being a guest, be sure to clean up after yourself. There's been a lot of humans leaving their trash about- especially along the river. Lots of trails leading out if you're looking for a light hike, in the winter, hiking is muddy. In the summer, it's very dusty and dry. The trails along the river and the main park are perfect for a run/walk. Especially if you have a dog. read more

I absolutely love this park! It has a river and a pond with ducks. There is a little play area for kids. This park has everything you can ask for in one place. It is so beautiful out here. The first time I came with my husband's family they had a barbecue. I had no idea it was going to be so much fun. This place is so different to other lakes or parks I have been too. I love it because there is free parking AND you get to park right next to your picnic area. They have tables and they have a lot of trees for shade. You have to walk down to go to the river, but it is just a little bit. It isn't bad at all. Once you are at the bottom you can go swim. There are shallow and deep parts. There are some spots were you can have your picnic right next to the water which is so nice. I loved the second time even more because we did this. We took down some chairs and some food. My cousin-in-law would just put her feet in the water while she would eat. I would sit on the shallow part to play with me baby. The water wasn't cold at all! It wasn't hot either. It was perfect! I have never been to a place where the water was just right. That's why I put my baby inside and he loved it. The water is clear and you can see what's inside. There are a lot of tadpoles, but to be honest I couldn't feel them. I just saw them when I entered the water but not when I was swimming. There are really bad spots were there are a lot of rocks and you can't walk around because it is comfortable. There are other spots were there are rocks but just a few. You can walk and feel the sand. You just see the rocks on the side. I recommend you bring water shoes if you come here. The first time I came I didn't take off my shoes because I couldn't walking inside the water without hurting myself. This is such an amazing place to come with your family and friends. It is so calming and relaxing. You see all the nature around you that is breathtaking. I love this park because it is very clean too! They tie up bags on the trees so people can put throw their trash inside so they won't leave it thrown everywhere. They will also open a small snack shack soon! It is a small little trailer that has a sign up that says coming soon. That will make this place even better. I almost forgot. They also have ropes tied on trees next to the river. Most people hang on it and throw themselves inside. It looks like a lot of fun, but I didn't want to try that! read more

I am new to California and Hart Park has inspired a love of hiking within me. It is a beautiful park with tons to do! There are many small picnic areas spread throughout the park, so if you are feeling like a BBQ, there is enough room for the whole family! There is also a scenic running/biking trail that runs all the way from Hart Park to the other side of town. I haven't run the whole trail yet, but I love what I have seen so far. The Kern River also runs along Hart Park and there was is a smaller, separate running/walking trail that runs alongside it. However, parts of it have been washed away by the water so it is best to be cautious if you choose to take this path! My favorite part about Hart Memorial Park is the hiking. I had never hiked before I moved to California but now I am absolutely in love with it! There is nothing quite like climbing up a huge, steep hill and looking over at the ground you conquered below! Hart Park has both advanced and novice trails- there is something for everyone there. This Park has become an almost weekly destination for me because of the beautiful trails and challenging hills I can scale. I will be back, that's for sure! read more

When I was a kid people from my parents generation used to talk about how great the park was when they were children. I guess they had a train that kids could ride on and a zoo among other things, a regular little amusement park. By the time I was a kid it was just a park with paddleboats; I've never cared for paddleboats. From the looks of it now it's a nice place for a BBQ or for fishing. There seems to be a lot of nature trails and I bet it's really nice when the wild flowers bloom. I absolutely love Hart Park. It's a close spot to go relax outside or go fishing. There are quite a few different types of animals out there like ducks, geese, coots, heron, peacocks, squirrels, skunks, raccoons, beavers, turtles, cats, snakes, and sometimes coyotes or bobcats. If you enjoy fishing, there are plenty of fish in the lake and the river including common carp, small and large mouth bass, catfish, crawfish, and various pan fish including bluegill. It truly could be a gorgeous park if people respected it. There are clean up crews that come to the park on a regular basis, but it is simply not enough to keep up with the amount of trash visitors produce. It is sad seeing bottles and bags floating in the water. Despite the litter, I still enjoy going to Hart Park. It has a ton of trees and lots of picnic tables. I haven't done a review in a long time and I figured I'd do a review on something I felt deserved a 5 star. Hart Park is huge and there's so much activities/events held here. Lately the main reason of visit... Is yes, I'm guilty... For Pokemon hunting haha w the family. I've actually been outdoors walking around and enjoying Hart Park's scenery. Honestly the only downfall for me would be the location since I live pretty far from Hart Park. I love the open area and how the park has so many areas to picnic at or hangout at. You even see people hiking which I thought was pretty neat. I won't dare hike up those high hills... The other day I saw someone on a parachute on top of one of the mountains, so you'd be surprised what people do out here. They have multiple areas where you can walk, run, bike or any other thing you can think of. Hart Park is probably on my top 5 parks in Bakersfield w a beautiful scenery. read more

This park has certainly gone downhill since I first started coming here in the mid 1990s. The trash is almost everywhere, including outside the garbage cans but not four feet away. Restrooms are so filthy they look like something from a third world country. Litterally poop on the walls, much higher than butt high. Poop that defies gravity?? On the other hand, it has potential, the supervisors need to remedy this situation. If they can't bring it back to decency, close it up, maybe sell it to developers. My toddlers and I explored the river right off the bike path. It was a great spot to let them play in the mud and water. Easily accessible and family friendly. The water level was higher from all the snow melt but we were able to find many treasures( sparkly rocks) lol. read more

We have been using the park for years, it used to have a snack bar, boats to ride, and peacocks. My family has used the pond for fishing small fish now. The bathrooms are horrible always has been. They have park rangers to, the sun hasn't gone down and the raccoons an Skunks are out and trying to eat everyone's left overs. There is a hole bunch of them I still give the is park 5 Stars because it's had it's heyday and people still want to be out here hopefully they will bring some things out to this park so more people start to come. This park is pretty nice park it's has two pretty good size ponds that you can fish I don't suggest fishing out of it The water is isn't very clean. They have several sites that you can have any type of picnic or large family get together. The killer kern runs through the park it is pretty nice and relaxing I do not suggest you swim in the killer Kern this river is very tricky and it will kill you. It has several places for children to play and adults to relax. It is a safe park rangers are on site and they are very strict on the law. It is very crowded on major holidays you can reserve a picnic site different sites cost different amounts of money. Scenery is very beautiful come and check it out you will have fun. read more

I came here on a nice Sunday morning for a nice hike/ walk around the paths behind the sheriff's range. I loved it! Very nice views. This time of year everything is so green and lush. I could not help myself but take tons of pictures! Everyone brings their dogs for nice hikes and walks. BUT... The bathrooms are extremely disgusting. I think there was even throw up on the walls. I had a great time just if you need to use a rest stop I recommend to take the drive else where. Parking was convenient and no charge. Will be coming back for more of that exercise! read more

First of all I don't want to give my age away but there was a time when I was a child that people could take a small train ride in Hart Park... Things seem have changed since then... I can't believe I am going to say this but "Back in the day... Hart Park was a wonderful family destination. People cleaned up after themselves and didn't leave piles of trash in their wake. Fishermen and fisherwomen would often be seen lining lakes and river. Now, it would seem that the people fishing have been ran off by people who would prefer to play in the river despite the many many warnings saying not to (highest death toll in the river this summer than it has been in ages). The families out picnicking having been replaced by throngs of people who have no regard to picking up their own litter or anything else. This is why the council has been researching a usage fee for the park. If people would be more civil, polite and pick up after themselves, the park would be a wonderful place again. As it is, it is a den for degenerates and low life scoundrels. read more

It's not what it was. Sad for me to say as I'm not yet 30, but I do remember this park being in much better condition as a youngster. The amount of trash, especially on any given Sunday, is just enormous. The cans themselves are overflowing, the rest is strewn across the park like confetti. It is the largest green park in Kern County and with access to the river it has the potential to be better. I noticed the resident water fowl population was diminishing as well. I guess even they didn't like the accommodations. Maybe they've taken up residency at The Park at Riverwalk. read more

Once in awhile we will make it over to Hart Park. There are plenty of spots for having a picnic with your special someone in this large park. It has never been crowded during the times we've been there. The scenery is quite nice. There are a couple of lakes where I've seen people fishing. Many trees to provide shade for those picnics. Grills are available for barbecuing. Plenty of peacocks can be seen walking around. If it wasn't so far from home, we'd probably spend more time here. I really, really like it here. It's like a mini oasis away from the city. The only bad thing is that people are so nasty and just leave their trash everywhere. And some idiots graffiti crap everywhere. I swear, it is sad that people ruin nature and are so dirty. I mean there are tons of trash cans... use them. There is a lot of park space to walk around in. The river runs along side of it. Lots of trees to provide shade in the summer. Scores of birds, ducks, peacocks, and I even saw a couple raccoons. It's only about 20 minutes from my house, so I like to go there on the weekends so my dog can get her sniff on and we can relax and enjoy the view.
