I don't mind coming here in the morning or afternoon. I just don't like coming at night. The park is way too dark. They have light, but they are way to dim. They need to change the light bulbs or clean them. It hardly lights up the park. When you walk on the sidewalk it is almost pitch black. I love walking at night, but I honestly hate that the park is so dark. Also, I don't look to judge a book by it's cover but it's very hard not to with certain people. I have come a few times and I see the same "homeless" people at the same spot. I feel so uncomfortable going to certain parts of the park because they keep staring at you. Not sure if they just stare or really want to make you feel uncomfortable. I also see a lot of certain adults smoking and acting crazy at the benches. I try to avoid them as well. Others are digging threw the trash and some are just walking around looking crazy. I'm sorry if I seem harsh, but I'm just trying to be honest. My husband has told me that a lot of them come to do drugs. I don't know, but like I said they do look weird. Now, for the positive. I love that I saw a water/spray section. The water wasn't on, but I think that during the summer they turn them on. I wanted to let my son play there but there are two people always sitting near that section. If I let my son play there I think he will go and bug them so I rather not have him play there. Right now, the play area is closed. Bummer. Great news though. It is closed because they are remodeling it! Yay! Now this I do love. It started to look so nice. They put a huge slide that I know kids will love. They are putting so much playground equipment and it is making the park look much better. They put up a sign that states they play area will open in mid October.

Usually regulars will tie extra poop bags to the fence and bring bottles of water. Because this park is a sump, garbage can sometimes wind up at the bottom of the park, but it's maintained weekly and is usually pretty clean for a dog park. The one thing this place NEEDS desperately is more signage about the rules. Last Sunday, July 11, 2021 we arrived around 8am and found a group of about 20 boys and 4 coaches having football practice. Usually I wouldn't mind this type of thing and welcome the socialization for the dogs, but the kids were not properly talked to about respecting the dog park. One of the boys opened the fence gate and let both of my dogs out, who of course then bolted out into the busy street. I feel that this could have been avoided if there were proper signs about closing the fence and being mindful of the dogs. Especially because this dog park is just the small fenced in area of a larger park, I feel like they could play anywhere and dogs really just have this one spot.

You'll find full sized basketball courts, four smaller baseball diamonds + one larger and a splash pad. We've also always see a ranger closing up towards the evening - which is nice to see. This is a great park for the community.

Standard Park's 16.5 acres stretches from E MInner Ave to Ferguson Ave along the West side of Doyle…read morejust to the East of Standard Elementary School. There is street side parking along E. Minner, close to the baseball diamond and picnic shelters. The baseball diamond comes complete with lights, two dugouts, and bleachers behind home plate. There is a small building just West of it which appears to be a concession stand, so I am going to assume that there is either a little league or NOR team that plays here. The setup seems quite elaborate compared to the baseball facilities at most city parks. Just East of the baseball diamond is a covered picnic shelter shading a number of individual picnic tables with a capacity of 80 people and two charcoal grills nearby. You can reserve this picnic shelter for private use by contacting the NOR Parks & Recreation District at 391-2020 and completing an application which can be downloaded here http://norfun.org/wp-content/uploads/2014/10/FR-100-Use-of-Facility-Online-Packet.pdf The cost is $15 per hour with a 3 hour minimum reservation. There were two other individual picnic tables in the park, but neither had a grill located near them. At first there didn't appear to be public restrooms at this park, but just as I was leaving I saw a building tucked back behind the baseball diamond where there were mens and womens restroom. The women's restroom had 3 stalls, one with a clogged toilet and two with no toilet paper. The water at the sinks works, but there is no soap. There are two play structures one for the younger set and a larger one for older children. THere are plenty of single seating benches near both play structures for parents to sit and watch their kids. I saw a basketball hoop where you could play half court, and there was plenty of open grassy area suitable for a variety of sports. This is not a bad little park, and is probably a lifesaver if you live in the dale and have small children.

Several covered areas with grills for hang outs and parties. There are plenty of pathways for riding, skating, walking or running. This place is an awesome quiet spot. When the weather cools down, you will find this park life start popping with the neighbors from the surrounding neighborhood. My family frequents this spot for working out or just getting out of the house. It is always a good time In the cooler months of spring and fall, the local neighborhood throws a monthly pop up shop for the small businesses at home. It is typically on the first Saturday of the month. If you are in the area, stop in and support local Small businesses.
