Had the "famous" sticky bun at the Farmer's market. Certainly the gooest on the island, but almost too gooey. $5 per bun is probably the most expensive in SHNJ, but was probably reasonable given one bun feeds 2 people. The flavor of the raisins was excellent. The overall taste of the bun was amazing, but I think it would have been better with walnuts vs. pecans. Pecans don't stay firm like walnuts when baked and these ended up being a bit mushy on the bun. I do like the taste of pecans though. Now I think it will take me a week to come off the sugar high of eating my portion. read more

Would of gotten 5 stars if I had more of a selection of cakes to order for my husbands birthday. Location was tricky to find and didn't realize it wasn't on the Main Street and you need to walk to an outdoor mall almost. Had the choice between chocolate or carrot cake. We picked carrot and it was honestly the best carrot cake I have ever had. Nice cinnamon taste to it. The inside shop had no pastries on display and almost didn't think it was a bakery though. I hate leaving non stellar reviews - particularly for small businesses. This is such a cute place in the square at Stone Harbor. The morning that we went there they were only offering two things for sale - an oversized tart and a strawberry scone. The tart served multiple people and it was just the two of us so we opted for the scone. I figured since it was one of two items offered it would taste good and I was very wrong. I have had many scones so I know what they are supposed to taste like and this scone tasted like well - nothing. There was some sugar crumbles on the top and bits of fresh strawberry - those were nice and made the scone look nice - but it just didn't taste good. read more

Exactly one year ago, I ordered the pink & blue starfish cupcakes from their website. Unfortunately, they looked absolutely NOTHING like advertised. The cupcakes I received were plain black cupcakes, with a white artificial starfish in the middle. No pink color, no sand, no pearls, no blue paper wrapper. They told me that the starfish would not be edible, which I had no problem with. However, you should not advertise a picture of a cupcake on your website that you cannot make. They ended up refunding my money, however, I am extremely disappointed to see that they are still advertising cupcakes that they cannot make on their website one year later... Update on 8/30/2016: Thought everyone should see what type of people own this business, as I received the below private message from the owner GG after I wrote this very honest and true review. "What kind of person is still dwelling on something a YEAR after it happened to the point of writing such a snarky and ridiculous review? An obvious miss communication on behalf of both parties, yes that means you as well. Clearly those cupcakes can be recreated given the high level of baked goods and catering this establishment produces (according to your fellow Yelp reviewers). Also, have you ever heard of the word "inspiration"...maybe that's why those cupcakes are still pictured on the website. Do you think they were magically baked, decorated, and displayed on a website for no reason? To top it all off you said you were refunded!! Guy behind the counter seemed annoyed that I was bothering his daydreaming (or whatever it was he was doing). My kids actually commented on it when we left the store. Minimal selection - but he told me it was because they'd sold out of everything even though it was just after lunch time (during the week, not on a weekend). Finally decided on some key lime pie and I watched him use his bare (unwashed) fingers to maneuver it onto the pie server and then back out into the plastic to-go container. Ick. I have been meaning to write this for a while, sorry about the delay. But I cannot say enough good things about this place. They catered a get together for us at our house, and we were just blown away by the great food and incredible service. Lauren and Gerry were great to work with. This was a memorial service and many of our guests were delayed by Saturday afternoon shore traffic. Lauren stayed at the event the whole time and made sure that the food stayed fresh even with the delays. They set up the tables, and even brought flowers. I thought that their prices were extremely reasonable, and the food was great. I should have ordered more - it was all inhaled! Thankfully we managed to have a couple of macaroons left over for us. I will use them for all of my catering needs at the shore. read more

This bakery is really just that: a great place to order ahead. Maybe sometimes they also have selections to buy on the spot but when we stopped in the day before our party, the store was quiet - no one around. I have never been in the store. Not even exactly sure where it is. My cousin uses this bakery all the time. I mean like every weekend. If I am coming to visit it if there is any special occasion, she always has baked goods from here. Everything I have ever tried is amazing! My favorite is the chocolate macaroon. Painted Pie catered my mom's birthday party on the shore. They made a bunch of appetizers for us, as well as an enormous bday cake. Everything was great. Each of us had a favorite among the appetizers -- spring rolls, bacon-wrapped dates, and fig jam & serrano ham crostini. And everyone loved the red velvet cake with cream cheese frosting. The owner was very helpful on the phone. They went above and beyond in helping to make it a special event. I told them we were doing a frog theme for the party. (Weird, I know, but my mom loves frogs). And the owner said they'd be happy to do a frog decoration on the cake. It turned out very cute. Also, they plated everything for us on these dramatic platters and serving pieces. It was a little over the top, but it definitely added to the festive-ness of the event. My husband went in another morning during our stay and had the quiche and a blueberry scone. He was lukewarm on the scone, but loved the quiche. Oh! The only bummer was that they're cash only. This business is new to Stone Harbor and is a much needed addition!! The shop is located in the back of the stone harbor mall across from Seagars on 96th street. I've only had chocolate chip cookies, but they make many other desserts such as pies and cakes. This is a tasty and creative shop everyone should stop in while visiting Stone Harbor. Especially when you are tired of the many ice cream stores and want a new dessert option. It is also great to pick up treats to bring to a beach house BBQ. Enjoy :D read more

We ordered three types of quiches (bacon/cheddar/pear was particularly good) for a brunch party and all three types got rave reviews from all guests. They were the first thing gone from the buffet table. The chocolate and banana scones were also a big hit. The owner was very accommodating and friendly. Wow! I had been meaning to stop here for the past two years and finally did. Should have stopped in sooner because the pastries here are the bomb! I got the strawberry peach mini pie, raspberry scone and some macaroons. I don't think I've had a more delicious pie, the peaches and strawberries tasted very fresh and juicy and the pie pastry was flaky and light. The scone was full of fresh raspberries and was also light and delicious. The macaroons were wonderfully sweet and full of fresh coconut. My family gave everything two thumbs up and wanted to know why I didn't bring home more but I got the last of the pies and scones. The pastries sell out quickly here which is part of the reason that I hadn't been here before but I will definitely be back here again. read more

Ordered desserts from the Painted Pie for a Bridal Shower. OMG they were FANTASTIC! The Carrot Cake is the BEST carrot cake I have ever eaten. Chocolate chip cupcakes with Chocolate Ganache, mini Strawberry - Peach Pies and Chocolate Chips cookies served out the rest of the dessert menu. RAVES from everyone who attended the shower. LOVE this place! Jerry and Lauren are truly talented pros! Their Carrot Cake and Chocolate Cake are incredible! I never even LIKED carrot cake before The Painted Pie, but am now a fan! Their zucchini bread is delicious too. And then.....there are the CHOCOLATE CHIP COOKIES! SO insanely delicious! I ordered a Carrot Cake for my husband's birthday, as well as three dozen Chocolate Chip Cookies. Jerry arranged the cookies SO beautifully on a tray for presentation, and then topped them with sifted powdered sugar, a really nice touch, it felt, and looked, very special. Delicious! I hired the Painted Pie to make cakes, pies and cookies for our wedding and to make quiches, sticky buns, scones and muffins for breakfast the next day. I hired them based on yelp reviews and one scone a friend had brought me (I do not live in New Jersey) and I am so glad I did. Everything was delicious AND beautiful. Jerry also takes pride in using great ingredients which I really appreciated. I originally asked for a peach pie in October but Jerry told me that he could not get peaches this year during October that he would be happy to put in a pie. I really appreciated his commitment to great ingredients and making sure he gave me the best cakes and pies possible! He also did a great job helping me estimate the amount of food we would need. His presentation was also beautiful. He made sure everything was nicely decorated and created a beautiful dessert table at our wedding. I cannot wait for my next trip to Stone Harbor.
