I'm not the biggest fan of bbq but this was spectacular. The bbq doesn't have that overwhelming smoke flavor and the meats are of the best quality. This was one of the best BBQ spots we had on our trip to the East Coast. The flavors were spot-on and everything came out hot and fresh. I especially loved the cornbread! It was moist, sweet, and the perfect complement to the smoky meats. Parking is limited to the street, which can be a little tricky but we never had an issue finding a spot nearby. Overall, the experience made it all worth it. The owner was incredibly friendly and made us feel welcome right away. The food was so good that we actually came back a second time during our trip. There aren't too many bbq spots at the shore. We were staying in cape May over Labor Day. We happend on this spot. Corner restaurant with outdoor picnic tables and a few inside tables. We tried a lot of the menu between brisket which was lean and a little on the dry side. We had pulled pork which was ok nothing special. We also tried the Mac and cheese which needed salt badly. The baked beans were not baked at all but three different beans not the flavor I was expecting. We also had the potato salad . The cornbread was good but super dense. We tried the brisket cheese fries which were not terribly good. There was not a great amount of cheese on them. There was no one in the store on a holiday weekend... hmmm . I must have passed by this place 50 times and never thought to stop in until I read an article that a top magazine voted their brisket sandwich the best sandwich in the state of NJ and I was compelled to stop and and try it. The place has a cool vibe and is owned by 2 Aussie childhood friends that have worked in/ran some top restaurants in Philadelphia and BBQ in Brooklyn. I ordered the newly famous brisket sandwich, the fried cauliflower with hot sauce, spices, and ranch dip and the smoked beets over tzatziki topped with pickled red onions, peppers, and dukkah (an Egyptian spice blend that is made with ground hazelnuts). The brisket sandwich was great and in line with some of the better barbecue spots I tried when in Texas. To say it's the best sandwich in the state is a stretch but for barbecue it is surely top notch. The beets and cauliflower were delicious. The sandwich and 2 sides came to a whopping $47 which I felt was very high, but hey this was a real treat. Next time I'll just order a "platter" where you choose a main and for $8 you can pick 2 sides and it also includes corn bread. read more

Ordered takeout online and the process was super easy. Told us it would be ready in 20 mins and it was! Super easy to get to on a major street. Staff were friendly and accommodating upon picking it up. Ribs were a bit dry and tough, almost like beef jerky. Flavor was decent and had some sort of a sesame seed rub on the outside that was sprinkled on after cooking; something I've never had before. The Mac and cheese had plenty of cheese (seemed like American and cheddar) and the pasta was cooked correctly so it didn't just fall apart. I tried Wildwoods BBQ with friends when they were doing previews in NYC, and the food is insanely good. We had the brisket, the slaw, the pulled mushrooms, and the spare ribs. I'm not generally a fan of vegetarian options when it comes to barbeque, but I would order the pulled mushrooms again without hesitation (as an addition, not a replacement). The slaw was delicate and savory (not overloaded with mayo like a lot of slaws are, in my opinion) and the meat was probably the best I ever had. My favorites are the pork ribs, but the Aussie sausage has a unique, savory flavor and I often get an order of those to have on hand in case of a sausage emergency. brisket was awesome, not the best I've had but had a nice flavor and texture, hard to say how it could be better im not a bbq expert but i think the fat is a good indicator and the fat wasn't super enjoyable to eat though i did eat almost all of it. the "small fries" were seemingly endless with no tray in sight, they were crispy and delicious with a few nice sauces making them even better. However, Wildwoods BBQ has earned the #1 BBQ spot down the shore, in my book. Incredible brisket and perfectly seasoned sides are what really stood out - though I also thoroughly enjoyed the delicious irony of Morrissey blasting over the radio at a BBQ restaurant. So I have been here twice, the first time everything was perfect. The ribs are delicious, they have a dry rub that is full of flavor. Their pulled pork is also great, and they (usually) give you some home made North Carolina bbq sauce with vinegar, that adds to the flavor of the meat. After my first visit, the next week I ordered again. I got the ribs, pulled pork and this week I added the baby back ribs. This time they forgot that vinegar sauce for the pulled pork and the baby back ribs ribs were hard and like jerky. I let the owner know on IG and received a reply that he had sold 24 racks and hadn't heard from anyone, and maybe they were fried too long. My problem is the food here is not cheap, and it can be well worth it, but I would have thought the owner would want to keep me coming back and at least offer to replace the ribs. I felt by saying no one else said anything in 24 orders, than I must be wrong. Just left a sour (without vinegar) taste in my mouth, I'm sure I will be back but no rush because of the poor customer service. On both visits I brought my orders home, but they do offer a few outdoor tables to eat on before heading to the beach, boardwalk or nightlife that North Wildwood has to offer. read more

I found myself in Wildwood, New Jersey for Labor Day weekend. My boyfriend lives in Dallas, Texas, so I'm very familiar with quality smoked meats. A few pros and cons about this new restaurant. The meats were actually extremely flavorful and cooked well. Nothing was overcooked, and nothing was too smoked or too seasoned. The half chicken was a favorite. I also enjoyed the pickles and the cornbread. What got me was the lack of sides. In Texas, if you don't have a green side such as collard greens, brussels sprouts, or green beans, it's a problem. This restaurant has quality sides, but the number of options is very limited. Additionally, I did find the prices to be quite steep. Although I'm not familiar with shore prices given the seasonal nature of the business, the overall meat selection was 10 to 15% more expensive than it is in Texas. I would recommend this restaurant for the meats but would encourage you to prepare your own sides and compliments. read more

Me and my BF came here when they were first opening the store and FINALLY were able to come back down for my birthday... And let me tell you just as good if not better then the first time, and as a native of Fort Worth TX I've had my fair share of amazing BBQ. This place tops it. The brisket was delicious and moist and easily cut able , I swear they put crack in the Mac and cheese I couldn't stop eating it, and the heaping portion of delicious fries dipped in Sweet Baby Rays BBQ sauce cannot be beat. This is a staple BBQ place in Wildwood and one of "We have to eat here first" when we arrive places.
