Did I really want to invest this much money into a career path (life coaching) that I was unsure of? Was the curriculum going to be good enough? Was the spiritual aspect going to feel authentic (not cheesy)? Would this course be professional enough for me to really feel confident in starting a life coach business? The answer to all this is YES. For real, guys... 100% yes. SLCT is special. It's beyond special. I am not the same person I was 5 months ago. And that's coming from someone who's spent money on a LOT of personal development in her life already. By the end of this 6 month course, I will have simultaneously received 120 hours of life coach training, AND 120 hours of being coached myself. When you think about it, that makes the price tag a screaming deal. And yes, I am in the process of confidently starting my own life coaching business. All three instructors (Richard, Jenny and Sherra) are fabulous. You can't help but be inspired and in love with their teachings and their presence. Even for the minority of students who don't choose to start their own businesses, or don't otherwise use the coursework in their career, they receive immense value from this course. I learned so much about marketing, financing, insurance, accounting, and operations when starting a new business. It's nice that they have someone that specializes in each subject to come speak and teach about it. The classroom for my courses usually had around 5-10 people and it was nice because it gave each person a chance to actually talk about their own businesses and get advice. Another amazing thing I learned about was when the public library came by. They taught me that you can actually schedule 1 on 1 consultations with the King County Libraries to help you find data on demographics and business information that relate to your business. I actually did schedule time with the library which helped so much. Another great service SCORE offers is mentor matching. You can meet mentors based on your business who can help you with putting together a business plan or help you with running your business. You can also schedule hour long private help with volunteers if you have any one time questions. Finally, they also offer online courses to take if you cannot attend onsite. Overall, this has been a great resource for me when thinking about starting my own business. The only reason I am giving this a 4/5 is because there was an issue with the billing. I had e-mailed via the finance person and they said I could just pay when I arrive. This is because I initially paid online and their paypal wasn't set up to the correct e-mail address. So the payment couldn't go through. So when I arrived, they didn't have my name and said "we probably spoke a while ago", even when it was like a week ago. So there was a little bit of a mix up and I paid, but it would've been a bummer if I wasn't able to attend.

My meetings with Arlene have been fun and productive... even as we dug pretty deeply to unearth habits of mine that were undermining my goals. Our sessions were weekly at first. The first six or eight were pretty intense... not threateningly so but in a "the challenge is on" kind of way. Over the course of those I found myself heading in new directions so encouraging that it made sense to reduce our meetings to a month or more in between. I was seeing huge improvements in my time management. My productivity was growing and the "noise" of distractions was receding to the point that I could look at my career with more clarity and start to make informed changes. At this point we've had perhaps a dozen sessions together. We're not done with the process, but I'm clearly going through a transformation that is exciting and very promising, so we've put it on pause for a bit to see how things play out. It's been a long time since I was so excited about my career and eager to work each day, and I've never felt so productive on a sustained basis. My meetings with Arlene have been the single key ingredient to making it happen. I can't compare her to others--I've never before worked with a personal coach--but I can say that I am a pretty exacting person in terms of whom I work with, especially when the stakes are so great and so personal.
