You can get the OG rainbow cone ($6.25) or a "normal" flavor like mint chip or birthday cake

FIVE FLAVOR FRENZY The oddball mashup of different ice cream slices is what makes Chicago's Original Rainbow Cone such a unique treat. Over the years I've gotten this unusual dessert item at Navy Pier, Taste of Chicago, White Sox games, and even once at Wrigley Field (I went for a friend). The prices always strike me as higher than they should be, however they're the least expensive at this brick & mortar store on Weber Rd in Bolingbrook. Rainbow Cone's got 16 locations in total: 2 in the city, 11 in the suburbs and 3 outside of Illinois (Bradenton FL, Valpo IN, and Pleasant Prairie, WI). A few have special things--Bolingbrook offers ice cream sandwiches, while mini donuts can be found in Lombard & Orland Park. You can get regular ice cream like mint chip or birthday cake ($4.25 for 1 scoop, $8.25 for 3 scoops), but the main attraction is the multi-faceted Rainbow Cone and its quintet of flavors. A single cone is $6.25, pints and quarts are available to-go. Starting from the bottom, there's chocolate ice cream, the stalwart. After that's strawberry, another popular flavor, followed by the eclectic Palmer House (vanilla w/cherries & walnuts), then pistachio, and finally orange sherbet. Logic says stacking these together in slices shouldn't work, yet somehow it does, and people LOVE IT. Note: although this Rainbow Cone shares a building with Buona Beef, you can't get ice cream in the drive-thru (you have to order from the counter inside). You can also buy $6 slices of their Rainbow Cake, which is frosted yellow cake layered with the aforementioned 5 ice cream flavors. * TL;DR * The Rainbow Cone in my 'hood is rocking a perfect 5.0 rating, so why would a born-and-raised Chicagoan like myself be the first to snap the streak? When summer rolls around, my kids, wife and I need to figure out if we go to Andy's, Dairy Queen, or come here after dinner (vital decisions like this will make or break our family bond). This colorful frozen treat also forms a great one-two punch with a round of mini golf at nearby Wilderness Falls. Rainbow Cone is a Windy City classic, and I'm stoked to have one so close to the house. Totally recommend.

Rainbow Cone shares the same location as Buona. Their signature is the rainbow of ice cream flavors with various assortment of sherbet. The orange flavor and cookies and cream were really good. Quality ice cream and good service!

Absolutely yes. Excellent ice cream as expected from the original rainbow cone. Wish you could order through the drive through.

Better than usual ice cream in Aurora. Charlie's is located on Stolp Island in a former factory…read morelocation. It has kind of a limited selection but the flavors are more exotic than typical. Has okay prices even though it's premium and small batch. They also have a few sorbets but it's random. A bad thing is the ever changing hours. It's hard to know when they're open. They're open longer in summers. As expected. It's about $5 to get a scoop. Has an okay amount of flavors to choose. There's not a whole lot but it's still an okay amount for a smaller locally owned place. A few non dairy sorbets are among the rotating flavors. Last time they had the Pink Grapefruit Sorbet. Had the sourness and sweetness of the fruit prepared with sugar on it. There's also other flavors such as espresso and tangerine. For sure it's a great idea to call ahead before going. It's got a bunch of flavors and they change these random times. They're usually closed on Mondays, Tuesdays, and Wednesdays.

The homemade waffle cone was also very yummy. Service was friendly and prompt. And the ice cream shop has the old fashioned chic look. Super adorable. A little pricey, but I felt it was worth the price
