I've been visit This location since it was a hole in the wall on the corner. I went last weekend and was so disappointed. I ordered huevo con chorizo burrito with beans inside. I was charged three dollars for the beans and I'm rounding up after tearing up the burrito. There was very little beans for what I paid. I thought the chorizo itself wasn't spicy and dry, but I think what I was most disappointed with was the cheese, whiz chili, almost looking like Velveeta at the top and the chili is not worth driving over for anymore. My son started an evening activity in the neighborhood last year and discovered that he loves Chubby's freshly-cooked burgers. I can't argue--they are tasty at a low price. We've been here about a half-dozen times. I enjoy their burritos, which aren't as well-priced, but are economical these days in Denver. Just finished the last third of my steak burrito from last night. It was stuffed with steak and quite filling. Their beef/bean and chorizo burritos also do the trick for me. I do think their green chile is middy mid. My only fuss w their fare is that their horchata tastes watered down and they require you to get your own ice and give the cup back to fill at the time you pick up your order. It'd taste good while waiting. Here's the rub: Even when not busy, the counter-service setup is less than optimal. Order, sit on a bench for a while and watch others do the same. When crowded, there will be butts in your face. Crowds don't seem to affect the time it takes for food--this varies widely, regardless. They do increase the chance of someone shouting or making a scene because their order was wrong. We've seen this on a few visits, disturbing my young son each time. Once, when I ordered ahead online, we arrived and were told they don't start cooking until you are on site. We'd already waited in line to find this out. Huh? Why bother? We don't anymore. Last night, we walked up to the counter to order--no line, only two people waiting for food. You get a number and wait. After the next five people behind us left w food, I asked about ours. "You ordered burgers, we make those fresh and they take longer." After the 10th order after us went out, I asked again. I wondered if they had to kill the cow? Our food was sitting on the counter, unpackaged, 22 minutes later. We don't wait that long anywhere else for a freshly cooked burger. This is the second time in six visits. So, while Original Chubby's offers decent economy grub, your time and frustration may add to the cost. I think we're done here. 2.5 stars read more

When I was asked if I wanted potatoes, I said yes (it was my first time there), and I left a small tip as well. When I got back to my truck and looked at the total, it came out to $33 for two breakfast burritos. That felt pretty steep for what I ordered. We've been going to Cubby's since the 1980s, and the food is still great, but the customer service today was completely unacceptable from beginning to end. The staff denied my elderly mother access to the restroom because it was "for employees only," and even blocked off tables from paying customers. The attitude and disrespect shown to her were offensive and unnecessary. Businesses survive because of loyal customers, and long-time customers deserve basic courtesy and respect. When we walked in there was a bunch of people waiting for their and some of them were complaining very loudly and even to the workers. The workers were kind of rude when they asking if we were ready (this was our first time and last visiting this place). We mostly ordered burgers, which had a good taste but the fries were very plain. We also ordered a quesadilla which was very gross. It was shredded yellow cheese in a tortilla- the cheese was not even melted and the outside of the tortilla was very salty and greasy. Chili cheese fries with chicharrones?! Something that I never realized that I needed to try. My friend took me here for my first time as she couldn't believe that I've never had Chubby's before. It's not the cleanest or cutest inside, but I could care less about how a place looks as long as the food tastes good! Service was a little slow, but still fast for how many people were waiting for their orders. I appreciate that the fries were actually spicy and the the chicharrones were crunchy and so yummy. I could feel heartburn forming as I was eating but sometimes good food just does that to you. Definitely want to go here again and try something new! read more

Visited this location after a school event around dinner time. There was ample seating inside and a small patio area outside. There are many choices from their menu. Our food took longer than expected and we washed our hands before our order. The bathroom needed some attention and not very clean. We needed toilet paper to dry our hands and open the door b/c they were out of paper towels. When our order was ready after about 15-20 minutes, we had chips and salsa (good but has a kick), kids cheeseburger, an order of regular fries, smothered chili relleno, and smothered beef burrito. We enjoyed the meal and there were many customers during our visit. It's a popular spot for sure and especially for late night eats. The food is good. We needed an extra plate to split up the food for the kids and they wanted to charge us for it (a bit ridiculous) and we did have to ask for ketchup, utensils, napkins, etc. I would come back to Chubby's (now that I have a better idea on what to expect). read more

Been coming to this restaurant for years and it never disappoints. The food is always great, my usual go-to is a bean burrito plain with a large smothered fries sometimes a horchata. The staff is straightforward and may come off as rude but they are just busy all the time and all different types of people come through. Especially late nights before the bars close. Parking lot sometimes gets packed so street parking sometimes. I remember when this place had barely a spot to eat and now they have a whole dinning room. They got my food wrong and refused to refund. She asked me if I wanted it deluxe, with lettuce and tomatoes. I told her no. Then she confirmed with me "so just chili and cheese, right?" I said yes. Called an order in to-go. YET again over a 45 min wait. Place was packed and EVERYONE kept returning their orders as they were receiving the wrong food. My order was incorrect as well. I ordered one large smothered fries with sour cream, two large smothered fries with chicharron. Lady at the register said she would only charge me for small fries because we waited so extremely long. Ended up getting one large fry and two SMALL orders. I am feeding a crew of grown men who are hungry after a long day working. They specifically asked/wanted cubby's. Now as I received two SMALL fries instead of the two large fries I ordered I have to order a pizza just to make sure they are full as they finish the tail end of a job. This is the 4th time in a row that things have gone sideways at this location. We love Chubbys we have been supporting for decades , but it's time you all hired a professional manager. This was our last smothered burrito place for out trip. They have late hours but unfortunately when we went it was takeout only. They had closed three dining room area and even turned off the lights. They were still very busy and had a lot of people waiting for their food. The prices were also really fair and despite that bad reviews, the wait to get our food wasn't even that long. These ladies are aggressive here, and definitely not the friendliest, but they're not rude either. The burrito was really good and had some heat. It was also a little high on the sodium level, and a bit too much at times, but I couldn't stop eating it. The burrito was also very filling and the steak was tender and flavorful. When we entered the place the vibes were very weird. We felt like we entered a different dimension and the vibes were not it. We see the workers there and a random police officer behind the counter and the police officer was playing with her gun. Like clicking it in and out of her holster like she was in the wild west. My daughters and I were in Denver for a softball tournament and we had the chance to try a few places. This place was busy and kind of confusing. There are people everywhere, some were in line waiting to order, some were waiting for their online order, some were waiting for their food. I ordered a taco and the chili cheese fries. The chili is good. It definitely has a little heat to it. But for me, it kind of drowns the fries. They are shoestring fries so my first few bites I was excited because it was pretty damn tasty...then I was over it pretty quickly. Good...but I couldn't finish all of it. The food here is absolutely amazing. I love the spice and flavor in everything they make here. The place is family owned with a lot of love and history behind this business. There were a ton of people here and always is - for good reason - it's got the best food! The lines go quickly though and because their food and homemade deliciousness you don't mind waiting a little bit for fantastic food. Ryan and ate our burritos on our walk to the light rail and sadly didn't get any photos of the food on this visit. But we will be back soon enough and I'll remember to take plenty of photos showing you this amazing goodness that they have here! read more

This is my hubby's preference for grab and go Mexican food. It's just okay to me though, but it's consistent. As much as I love a beef and bean burrito, I have to be mindful of how I order one from here because it's like they pile on a bowl of beans and a spoon of beef. The food was nice and hot but I wished I ordered some sides with my meal. The ambiance wasn't great and it feels trashy when you are eating. I came around 9 this time, there was a new lady I have never seen before taking orders; mind you I have been coming here for a while and I can't deny it's one of my favorite spots. We waited behind 3 people I'd say, they all paid with card. Come my turn to order, the young lady asked me for MY ID for using MY card. Never in 24 years have they done this to me. I wouldn't give Chubby's 3 stars, it's a great place, the food is amazing but this made me feel a little sad and discriminated that they did this. I've been going to this location when they had their old building well over 20 years ago. I recently moved far south and drive 27 miles one way just to go there for smothered fries.
