This time, we sat and ate in the balcony. The Flying Monkey is owned by the Common Man restaurant chain so I was expecting their comfort food to be offered. Unfortunately, it was more ballpark (minor league) type fried food on paper plates. Word to the wise, go for the movies and concerts, not the food. Plastic silverware and fried food is offered (service is pathetic). Management gave us a voucher because of the incompetence of the staff. The Bacon brothers are worth seeing so it was a nice evening. 4.5 stars for the show- 2 stars for the food. Live and learn!

This was our first visit, and it's easy to see why so many artists include it on their summer tour schedules. The surrounding Lake Winnipesaukee area is beautiful, and the venue itself is modern and well laid out. We were under the pavilion roof in reserved seating, but there's lawn seating available too if you're looking for a less expensive option. The sound quality was excellent, and despite the crowd, getting in, finding our seats, and enjoying the evening was all surprisingly easy. Concessions are what you'd expect at a concert venue--plenty of choices, but at concert prices. That's hardly unique these days. What stood out more was how well the Pavilion itself is laid out. It manages to feel intimate enough to connect with the performers while still being large enough to attract major touring acts. As someone with knee issues, I especially appreciated the golf-cart shuttles to and from the remote parking areas. If you're thinking about seeing a show here, I'd encourage it. Sarah McLachlan was amazing, but the venue deserves some of the credit for making it such an enjoyable evening. We'll definitely be back the next time one of our favorite artists comes through Gilford.

I've heard the food prices are reasonable, and if you want to enjoy some live music while waiting for your show, there's a smaller stage out there that usually hosts a band prior to the show.

She assigned my friend a seat all the way across the crowded venue. My friend asked if she could pull a chair up and sit down, and the manager told her no. In fact, one of the first things she said to my friend was, "If you're handicapped, how did you get in here?" My friend, who's in her 70s, walks with a cane and was afraid to traverse the venue in the dark, because of trip hazards. She stood on a ramp for 2 HOURS, holding onto a railing. This staff member stood 10 feet behind her. When my friend asked her for her name, she said, "I'm not going to tell you." And when my friend was leaving, this woman called after her, "Goodnight! Thanks for coming!" Little fact for you: my friend was in the music business for 30 years, and handled the biggest clients and their money when women were generally relegated to sex objects. She founded famous music venues! She put up with a lot and deserves your respect. This woman by her web image seems to be general manager. She's definitely someone who can fire people, because another staff member was afraid (!) to help my friend for fear of losing their job. Blue Ocean Music Hall, you need a new general manager. She's an ADA lawsuit waiting to happen and has no empathy, graciousness, professionalism or sense of hospitality. She behaved like a straight up bigot and has no business working with the public. Nothing like the original tv show. Why he chose this, who knows. It didn't help that the whole first act was not funny at all. His acting made it torturous. A couple people walked out before the first act was done and a few more after the close of it. We were tempted but hung in. The second act was a somewhat funny thanks to more characters, but still...we couldn't wait for it to be over. The following is not a comment on "Oscar's" weight but on the impact of it. He is very large and reminded us all of Ralph Kramden, but larger. The 6 of us were worried for him when he had to run back and forth a little bit and was then breathing Very heavy and sweating profusely even after sitting a while. I couldn't stop looking at him as he sat in a chair, to see if he was ok. Every time he crossed the stage his weight was a distraction from the his acting and from the play. Finding the playhouse was easy and it's a few miles from downtown Meredith. Parking was really easy considering the show was sold out and the playhouse itself is picturesque and charming. The theatre only holds a couple of hundred so it's easy to get in and out. I would highly recommend coming to see a show. The actors are professionals and each show brings a different cast. The prices were very reasonable and the staff was very friendly and welcoming. We will be back!
