Wild Berry Farm - Perfect Picking today

    Wild Berry Farm

So we decided to check it out. The farm is a nice visit. We were greeted by Nancy, and her energetic dog, Guss. We picked up a bucket, given a quick tutorial on the best way to pick blueberries, and off we went. We picked nearly a pound of blueberries in about 45-50 minutes. It was a nice activity. We tried some of the blueberries and they were delightful. Nancy was very pleasant and friendly. Worth stopping by.

I found Wild Berry Farm from by doing a Google search on "farms with wild blueberries" and I'm so glad I did! I spoke to Nancy, the owner of the farm (who is lovely) and arranged visit. I don't think she planned to be open the day we went, however, she graciously accommodated my husband and I. When we pulled into the property, we were greeted with the most gorgeous farmland scenery and 2 friendly frolicking border collies. Nancy gave us a tour and some history about her wild blueberry orchard and then showed us where to pick. I have never seen so many wild blueberry bushes with tons of ripe fruit in one place. Nancy also has PYO delicious red and pinkish colored raspberries. It turns out that my husband, who is allergic to raspberries, can eat the pinkish ones without any problems- I think they are called "Queen Anne" raspberries. Nancy also sells some other nice items including wild blueberry sauce and a delicious wild blueberry syrup that I used to make a nice craft cocktail. Picking the blueberries was a peaceful and kind of a therapeutic activity that we really enjoyed. We chose the smaller bucket size and had plenty to use 5 cups on a delicious pie with some left over for yogurt, salad, oatmeal, etc. We HIGHLY recommend a visit to this unique wild blueberry farm located in the beautiful Lakes Region. We are definitely heading back before the wild berry season ends!!!

Pumpkin Bloosom Farm - Freshly picked lavender for our wreaths

Three generations of women in our family went to pick lavender at Pumpkin Blossom Farm in July. The…read moresetting is quintessentially New England farm! Driving there was beautiful and I live in NH but still think NH is gorgeous! The parking is plentiful and has shade. It was a very hot day so we were very happy for the shade. The young adult at the entrance to the driveway is friendly and helpful! We entered the gorgeous old barn and were immediately WOW'D by the ambiance! Such a gorgeous place! They have a bar set up where you can purchase inviting mock-tails such a lavender lemonade with non alcoholic gin!!! There are other non lavender themed mock-tails as well. The presentation is gorgeous and it was a good size cup, probably at least 15oz, not filled to the brim with ice but enough ice to keep my drink refreshingly cold! Loads of wonderful lavender themed goods for sale! All very attractively staged. This is a beautiful venue. Once you talk to the young adult in charge of pick your own lavender and pay, you are given a basket, shears, rubber band, and instructions on how to cut and where on the plant you should cut. Despite the ungodly heat it was a lovely afternoon with our mom, my sister, and my daughter. The farm is dog friendly as long as they are on a leash. There are a TON of awesome photo ops! An old pick up truck, gazebo with Adirondack chairs in the midst of the field, Adirondack chairs placed in the midst of rows of lavender, the barn, and an adorable vintage camper which doubles as a snack shack with various bites for sale! There are benches and Adirondack chairs scattered all over the property making the entire place very inviting. Chickens were quietly clucking to themselves as they roamed the yards pecking for bugs and worms. They were taking advantage of deep shade and cool earthen hollows they made to keep cool. So picturesque! I highly recommend Pumpkin Blossom Farm. A very generous bunch of lavender is $18, and it is VERY generous!!

This is a beautiful lavender farm owned by wonderful people who thankfully invite the public to share in their world. They have a beautiful barn that holds events and sells lavender products. They also had a bar area serving non alcoholic lavender drinks that were perfection. Their free range chickens add that organic feel to the farm. We cooked lavender smores and had some sweet treats from the camper/ice cream truck out back. They had pony rides too!! I loved this little farm and definitely will be coming back!!

Follow your maps and once you cross the bridge they have tons of signs to direct you, hard to get lost. Trust they're hours, we showed up in the pouring rain and they're still open 9am-5pm weekdays. As soon as you walk in you'll get free samples. We sampled 5 cheeses and 2 grades of maple syrup - it sells itself. One cheese is made with unpasteurized milk - others include sharp cheddar, sage, smoked. Convinced me to try traveling home with cheese for the first time. Tons of products available for sell including from other farms as well. I recommend picking up some of the Red Kite Candy caramels they have there. If you liked it as much as me their factory is about a 30 min drive away. Other activities include petting animals (not in winter), walking trail, and self guided tour of their maple house. Wasn't able to do the trail in the rain but I would estimate you can do all of this in 2 hours. Not at all like Billings Farm if you're concerned about going to both or only have time for one. Billings has an admission fee, no samples of milk or cheese though the make both. More of a museum but they do have up close interactions with their cows (even in winter) for the kids, butter churning, candle dipping. Recommend Billing for taking kids on homesteading field trip, Sugarbush a quick stop for foodie/charcuterie person IMPORTANT: They do NOT sell sugarbush products at any of the stores in Woodstock so don't plan to buy more later and have regrets like us - we looked in every store and couldn't find it. Not sure about Quechee though. Products can also be ordered online and shipped

Weather got a little hariy getting there with the slushy roads, but we made it! It's pretty remote location with no street lights, so if driving in the dark look for the signs to get there and trust your GPS. There's a large parking lot across from the entrance to the little store/shop. The shop is actually the owners old family home I belive. We arrived pretty much at closing time, but we were still welcomed warmly. We got a cheese & maple syrup tasting which was yum and informative, and the staff member that did it was really nice, I forgot her name, but see photo below. One of the cheeses has won a cheese competition, very cool. We also got to meet the owner, but she was busy getting Christmas orders together. I perused all of the cheeses I wanted and settled on 4. We got to try 2 out of the 4 from the cheese sampling. The nice lady that checked me out even gave me some nice to-go samples as well. The smoked cheese was my fav, and the sage. But I enjoyed them all. I was able to easily fly home to TX with them due to the cold weather of the season. After the tasting, we got to peruse the store. They have so much other stuff to buy in additon to cheese and maple, tons of knick-knacks and gifts and merch. We didn't get to explore the farm after since it was pitch black when we left, too bad. Enjoy!
