Great gyro platter. The gyro has lots of meat and is very tasty. The fries are handcut. And the salad is great. The salad has great olives and cheese. It's a great Greek salad. We really enjoyed our gyros here! My sister and I went. My husband is not a fan of any type of Greek food so thank goodness I got to go with my sister. We love to support local restaurants, fancy or not. The Olive Tree is simply a good place to get a nice meal at very fair prices. When we visit it seems we most always get Mary to take care of us. She is a mighty server in a small package. Very genuinely kind and kindhearted. We like her. Accompanied by my Favorite Fab Fiancée, we got our 'usual' Greek Salad, to share. It's got all the goodies that would please any hungry Greek God or Goddess. Yum! I ordered the Dolmades to start things off with. That's grape leaves wrapped around a meat, rice & spice mixture, essentially. Drizzled with a lemon sauce these things are good! I LOVE 'em! I also got a Gyro. Whether you say Gi-ro, Yee-roh or Jeye-roh these sandwiches are always a hit with me! The Olive Tree version is a big, fat, juicy plump pita wrapped happy meal! Dribbled with Tzatziki sauce, that wonderful creamy good concoction...equals Gaga over Gyro! Forget fancy, and high prices if you just want a great meal. Great food horrible service. Only 2nd time here and last. Over 20+ minutes just to be acknowledged by waitress. Place was almost empty place. Then about 45 minutes just for food to come out. Service is the worst in the county. How can you operate like this. Last time here we came as a big party. By the time my food came everyone was packing up leftovers. I figured try again with just my wife and 2 kids. And wait was longer. Very unprofessional. When trying to voice my concerns the woman at register dismissed me as quickly as possible. Food was good. I believe it has a new owner. Seems I remember reading that some time back in the Chronicle. We stopped going because it looked like it was getting neglected more and more. It was cleaner than it used to. Service was good, food was good at a fair price. It's one of those local little diners most of us have in our towns. Nothing spectacular, but good service and value. We will be going back for something else besides breakfast. I love a good Greek Salad, so I plan on giving it a try next time. I'll let cha know. read more

The menus like the floors are dirty the interior is poorly lit & decorated, the chairs and tables are clearly 25 years old. My waitress was friendly but went outside twice to talk to a friend and pet a dog not washing her hands upon returning to work. I ordered the gyro deluxe with salad and fries. The salad was ok save I had to cut up everything on the plate. The gyro and fries were both very plain not a $10 item like I was charged. I've eaten my way through Greece and these folks don't have the flavors down. The staff is too informal. While I was here I heard jokes about the coffee which I was drinking at the time I learned how much employee meals cost and what time they go to the bank all while sitting in the dinning room. This place is a gem for what we ways order- the tour of Greece for two. Very generous portion, reasonably priced, great taste. We nehad anything else. The 5 star is for the dish we have and the friendly service. We went there last week (first week in June), to our surprise, the restaurant only open until 2pm. Not even worth one star. This restaurant is a disgrace. Filthy dirty I would not let my dog eat there. Food is terrible not how Greek food should taste. Not sure where they learned how to make Greek food. They treat their employees horrible yell at them in from of customers. Very disrespectful to them. I don't think I can put into words how wonderful this restaurant is! I have lived in Citrus County for 36 years and never stopped- what a mistake. I came in with my 2 year old son. We were hot from being at the park and he still hadn't napped. The ladies, all of them made us feel like family. They turned on cartoons immediately to help keep him occupied. They came and played with him and let me eat and have a 10 minute break. That's just the staff!!! The food is AMAZING! The menu is so large that anyone could find something to eat. Prices are so reasonable. The next time you want to eat out, I strongly suggest visiting this wonderful restaurant. read more

Totally agree with recent reviews. Have been visiting this restaurant for years when I'm in town visiting family. Have always enjoyed it--good food and good service. The food is still good but the menu, website and service has been pretty deceptive. Website and menu indicates they're open until 9pm but we were rushed out at 8:15. Overcharged and underserved on a few items. Hoping the new management realizes what a staple this has been in the Citrus County dining community and fixes things quickly. read more

The Olive Tree in Crystal River used to be our favorite place to go for an affordable family dinner. There are new owners and things have changed. They have spruced it up, new paint and tablecloths. We always get the Tour of Greece for two which came with complimentary appetizer, salad and dinner rolls. Now there is no appetizer, we never received rolls and the portions are definately much smaller. We were informed there is no senior discount and we had to remind the waitress that we were overcharged for a childs meal ( $1.00 under 9). It wasn't that busy and the waitress had a hard time bringing out the food and drinks in a timely and efficient manner. They need to revamp their website to reflect their new policies. I can see that more things will probably be changing and we'll have to reconsider taking our family to this restaurant in the future. read more

Coming from NY we hunger for gyros, theirs is decent. Chicken slouvaki are made to order and a decent size. Their salads are hit or miss sometimes using fresh feta sometimes not. Overall the service can be better but the meals are decently priced. Service is better when owner is present, too bad he isn't there all the time! read more

I had the Pork Souvlaki and I wasn't impressed. The service was good enough to come back again. The souvlaki didn't taste like it does in Greece. The pork and fries had no seasoning on them at all. I understand they have to cook the pork on skewers and not the meat turner but add some seasoning to it to make it close to what is served in Greece. YOU CAN DO BETTER!!! Next time I'm in town I'm coming for the Moussaka, which is my favorite dish from Greece. Hopefully that will be better! read more

My husband and I took our two boys and my little brother who was staying with us to the Olive Tree for dinner one night. I had read good reviews about the restaurant and it's food. Prices were fair so we decided to try it out. Our server was great, very attentive, quick to bring refills and pleasant. The food was very good, portions were great and I LOVE that the kids meals are only a $1! We were very happy with our first experience. Our second experience, well that was not as good. Our service was not as good as before. We had to wait for drink refills and it wasn't as prompt. The rolls were hard but the portions were still good and three of the four meals were good. My mother ordered the Spinach Pie. She took one bite and it turned her stomach. She has ordered Spinach Pie at her local restaurant several times and love it. She said the Spinach Pie here was not good. I went to the register to ask for a menu so my mom could look to see if she wanted to order something else. It took our server a very long time to return to our table. In the time that it took her to return to the table my mother's stomach got very upset. My son had not finished his buttered spaghetti so I offered it to my mother so she would not get sick. When the server finally came back to our table I told her that my mother did not like her meal and that I would like her to remove it from our bill. She said she would have to talk to her manager. She returned a couple of minutes later and said that she could not remove it from the bill but that she could box it up for us to take home. I told her that we did not want to take it home and asked why her manager would not remove it from the bill. She just kind of shrugged so I asked to speak to her manager. The manager came to the table and informed us that she would not take the meal off because it was not prepared poorly my mother just did not like it. I have never in all of my time dining out ever had a manager act this way. It's good customer service to at least offer to make the customer something else. We had planned to each get dessert but when the manager was so rude we decided to forget dessert. My mother ended up being sick to her stomach the rest of the night and most of the next day from that one bite of Spinach Pie. I feel there was something wrong with it. I am sad that the manager we had on our second visit was so rude and did not appreciate our business because we really liked that restaurant but I will never step foot in their establishment again. read more
