I have family in Redcar and try to get up there at least once a year for the Horse Racing which is…read morea real fun day out! (Although you can never guarantee the weather in the north of England!) My Dad now has a one bedroomed house and so me, my sister and our partners had to book a hotel. We stayed in the All Welcome In which is walking distance from the race track and offered Luxury En Suite rooms. Our room was a twin room with extremely dated bedding and decoration. It looked and smelt like the room had not been lived in for several years and as for the en suite?? A cupboard with a toilet and shower cubicle would have been a better description! And the door fell off after we tried to open it the second time. All in all two nights cost £71 for the two of us on a bed and breakfast basis. We did not dare to eat the breakfast but another guest made a complaint due to the bread being frozen, only to be told that they put it out frozen so it stays fresher for longer!! If we had not paid £40 deposit on the rooms and there was another hotel available (they all get booked up very quickly on a race weekend) then we would have definitely stayed else where. I cannot stress enough how awful the hotel was and would suggest that if anyone stays in Redcar, stay well away from the All Welcome In!

For £12 I wasn't expecting much but I must say that I was pleasantly surprised. I have stayed in much worse places where I have been charged around £70 per night. The twin rooms were quite large and included a w/c with shower. The decor was a little outdated but for the price we were well satsified. The rooms were clean and clean towels were provided. The breakfast was a full English with plenty of tea refills and toast. The landlady was very friendly and extremely helpful and gave us some good local information and directions. If you are looking for 'Jack & Vera Duckworth' type B&B accommodation and you are on a budget, then I can highly recommend this place. If you want something more upmarket, then try elsewhere and be prepared to pay much more than £12 a night.

Well that's it…read more Never again will I eat my breakfast in daylight. After an awesome weekend break at the gothic themed Bats and Broomsticks in Whitby I now insist upon eating all my breakfasts in a candlelit cellar to the strains of Sisters of Mercy. You may never have tried that before but once you have you will wonder how you ever breakfasted any other way. I'm feeling all dark and Mistressy just thinking about it. So to review. I believe I can sum this up neatly by saying that this warm, welcoming and quirky B&B just up the road from the heart of Whitby is PERFECT for you if you can say 'yes' to any or all of the following: 1) When I say 'Amelia' by The Mission you immediately start singing it in your head. 2) At any point in your life you have spent a weekend ruining the new DMs your badgered Mother finally bought you, to just the right degree of 'aged distress'. 3) You've ever picked holes in the cuffs of your school jumper to thrust your thumbs through. 4) You can air guitar to Alice Cooper's 'Poison'. 5) You have ever drawn spider webs on the corners of your eyelids. 6) Your father/mother/grandfather/grandmother has ever exclaimed you look like you are 'going to a funeral'. 7) You have ever deliberately sat in the shade on a sunny day drinking Cider and referring to those playing in the sunlight as 'The Others'. 8) You still refer to anyone as a 'Norm'. 9) You know what Stargazer Pitch Black is. 10) You have ever owned a dress or shirt made of crumpled velvet. Score double here if it was dark purple or had leather threading at the neck. So what are you waiting for my little Lestats and Booberellas?? Drag yourselves out of the dirt of your homelands and go for a thoroughly satisfying dark skulk around Whitby. You know you want to.
