The rooms are beautiful, sizable, quaint, cozy , warm and beautifully decorated. The beds are very comfortable. The rooms are provided with a serving area of tea, coffee, hot chocolate and cookies. Really nice to come back to after a full day out and about. The living room and dinning room is also inviting and playfully and warmly decorated. Fiona left menu cards of with a large selection of breakfast options. Breakfast was fantastic. I don't want to leave. I can't say enough about this lovely inn.

We were greeted by staff who showed us our room for four. It was spacious. Also, we had let them know our daughter was celebrating her birthday and when we arrived, there were balloons on her bed and a cake to share. We had a wonderful stay and would stay here again.

The location is an easy fifteen minute walk from the city walls and the Minster. The two breakfasts we had here were the best we had in the UK: made to order, all locally sourced, and without a doubt the best breakfast sausage I've ever had. Other perks: very affordable rates, free tea and cookies in your room, access to guide books, free WiFi, and an adorable Yorkie who acts as a greeter in the afternoon (much to Steve's dismay). They have put a lot of money into making it a lovely place to stay. More importantly, the owners, Tricia and Steve were super welcoming. They made me feel right at home and were helpful without being pesty. The breakfast is really amazing. When they say "full Scottish" they are not exaggerating. I mostly enjoyed the Continental but they had ALL sorts of cooked options. I am (more than) a bit of a beer geek. I asked Steve for some pub recommendations and he was super knowledgeable... and even took time to draw me maps (I also get lost easily.)

I found this place after hours of searching online. It checked all my boxes for location, cost,…read moreroom presentation, access to river walks, parking and so on. The staff are really friendly and treat you like honoured guests. Our room was prettily furnished and the only negatives are that we look into a busy (and noisy) road and street lights shine straight into the room. The blackout blinds help enormously in mitigation. The walls are a bit thin and you can hear people in the room above loudly enough to keep you awake and/or wake you up. There are remains of some of the old York Priory in the garden which is really cool. Breakfast is from 0730h to 0930h and there is a good menu of varied cooked dishes plus cereals, fruits, yoghurts, bread etc. The weekend we stayed there is a minimum 2 night booking rule - not sure if this is year-round or not - and we booked through the Visit York site. Our superior double room was £158 (room not pp) including breakfast. There is also a residents bar. We' definitely stay here again.
