This can be served in the bar at any time but the restaurant is much nicer - you need to book though. O'Gradys has some great live music and it's worth keeping an eye out for when bands are playing there. It does get quite packed though so go early and get a seat. My stroganoff sauce was quite tasty, although it had far too much pickled gherkin in it for my taste. A little is nice, but not so much as to overpower the whole dish. Three of us ordered dessert, and unfortunately it was served with fresh cream, that had turned sour. We informed the waiter, who said "The cream is off?" and just walked away. We continued to eat our dessert as the cream was on the side. The waiter reappeared after 5 minutes and said "yes, the chef agrees, do you want more cream?" As we were nearly finished we declined. A few minutes later the chef came out of the kitchen, looked at us, then went back in, without saying a word. Needless to say, we were very disappointed over all, and won't hurry to go back.

This is a really difficult review for me. Honest Lawyer is really an American-style hotel rather…read morethan a B&B or a "charming old-fashioned" hotel... The room was clean, and the bed was comfortable. I will also say that the restaurant had tasty dinner. The annoying parts of this stay unfortunately outweigh the positives in my mind. Firstly, the nice, quite room is basically completely Wi-fi proof. While they do offer free Wi-fi, I was unable to actually use it from my room - I had to either go outside, or back to the restaurant/lounge to connect. Second, while the dinner was pretty good, they ran out of cask-ale after my first pint, and didn't seem enthusiastic about changing the cask. Also, the dinner wasn't really a bargain. This dovetails in to the second issue I had with dining, which was the breakfast. It was a mediocre steam-tray buffet. It was not worth the £9.99 per person that they charge. Third, they don't have a business center - this isn't normally a huge deal, but I'd love to have been able to check in for my flight and print my boarding passes from the hotel, especially considering how troublesome their Wi-fi was. My overall summary of Honest Lawyer is really that it's about a 2-1/2 star experience. It's tolerable if you cannot find a B&B, but it really doesn't compare to a good B&B experience, and it's costly enough that it cannot realistically be called a bargain.

We stayed in the suites which come in at a hefty £80 a night. The bed was so comfortable, large and not too soft or hard and the room was clean. The view is superlative. Overlooking the sea with a bay window and chairs to sit in watching the waves! Lovely! However. I was very disappointed in the decoration which is now tired and a bit outdated. There were no toiletries at all, not even hand soap! which is a bit bizarre! There were no slippers or gowns which I would expect for that price in Hartlepool. The wi-fi didn't work in the room at all and the telly was a basic 5 channels. However, I would stay again if I could afford it just for the view and the food! xx
