What I was surprised at was the cost of the room, £200, for 1 night(wow) ....... The room was really not worth that at all, it was just like a bigger premier inn room with some posh furniture. Nice bathroom and view though. We had to balance the tea making facility's on the end of the dressing cabinet to reach the socket for the kettle, very safe. Cannot comment on the Resteraunt because we ate a buffet in the 9th bar for the wedding, although the hog roast was amazing, I have never seen so many people rip pieces of meat of a pig when the chef was not looking.... Would I stay again, Only if they were to drop the prices of the rooms.

Opened just one week before our stay, we were the second guests to stay in our particular suite, which still smelled of new carpeting (a wonderful smell, if you ask me). The room itself was gorgeous - lots of space, a plush king bed, comfortable sofa, and a lovely bathroom with large soaking tub. The staff was more than willing to accomodate our needs, and very friendly. They were more than happy to drive us from the main hotel to our room in a golf cart whenever we needed a lift, and spent considerable time helping me connect to the wireless network. We greatly enjoyed afternoon tea service on the patio overlooking the golf course. The scones and sandwiches were delicious and the presentation was just lovely. Of course, such luxury doesn't come without cost, and our upgrade was certainly expensive (though very much deserved after the walk).

Perfect if you've got a late night ahead of you and fancy a lie-in the next morning. Newcastle is the place to party, after all! Embrace that lie-in. The hotel was pretty standard. Rooms have baths, televisions, kettles; everything you'd possibly need for the duration of your stay and no nasty extra hidden costs. Room service is also available. My only complaint was that our hallway had a funny smell when we arrived. We soon discovered that there were plates with leftover fish and chips left outside one of the rooms. It seemed that the guests had left it for the cleaning staff. This couldn't be helped and the hallway was clean and fresh by the time we returned that evening. There's also a bouncer on the door in the evening so prepare for that. You'll just need your name checked off a list and to give your room number. The Thistle was just fine for an overnight stay, with friendly staff and reasonable prices.

It is across the street from a small grocery/convenience store (a Tesco limited is about a 5 minute walk)-it is about a 30 minute walk from the main Newcastle train station (or a very quick subway ride from there). There is a free limited breakfast with free coffee, snacks and bananas and a small bar downstairs if you want to hang out. An excellent value for budget travelers to Newcastle.

Come out of the station, turn right and you'll see it. - The rooms were really big, with decent sized bathrooms - The breakfast was included in the room rate and wasn't bad (the croissant wasn't fresh but at least they provided lots of fruit, and lots of tea!!) - They do nice things like leave you complimentary water, juice and a kitkat - The staff were really friendly and helpful I heard a few people mention that their room were noisy when trains arrived/departed, but my room was fine... The problems we had with our stay was when we got up next morning and went to the Wagon Team for breakfast this must be the worst breakfast I have ever, had the room was dirty and dark it was a lottery as to what food was available (even hot water, tea and coffee were in short supply) and the cooked breakfast when it arrived was practically inedible with the cheapest saddest ingredients it was possible to source. The one member of staff who was working tried her best but was not able to cope with the relatively small number of guests trying to get the most basic of items we took milk, tea bags back to our room to make a cup of tea. We would recommend the Hotel but get in the car and go elsewhere for your breakfast a complete rip off that Premier Inn need to remedy if they want our repeat business next time we are in the area.
