What I was surprised at was the cost of the room, £200, for 1 night(wow) ....... The room was really not worth that at all, it was just like a bigger premier inn room with some posh furniture. Nice bathroom and view though. We had to balance the tea making facility's on the end of the dressing cabinet to reach the socket for the kettle, very safe. Cannot comment on the Resteraunt because we ate a buffet in the 9th bar for the wedding, although the hog roast was amazing, I have never seen so many people rip pieces of meat of a pig when the chef was not looking.... Would I stay again, Only if they were to drop the prices of the rooms.

What a wonderful, welcoming place Close House Hotel was after five days on Hadrian's Wall…read more After staying in a number of average B&Bs along the Wall, we decided to upgrade our room at Close House Hotel to a Carriage Suite. Opened just one week before our stay, we were the second guests to stay in our particular suite, which still smelled of new carpeting (a wonderful smell, if you ask me). The room itself was gorgeous - lots of space, a plush king bed, comfortable sofa, and a lovely bathroom with large soaking tub. The staff was more than willing to accomodate our needs, and very friendly. They were more than happy to drive us from the main hotel to our room in a golf cart whenever we needed a lift, and spent considerable time helping me connect to the wireless network. We greatly enjoyed afternoon tea service on the patio overlooking the golf course. The scones and sandwiches were delicious and the presentation was just lovely. Of course, such luxury doesn't come without cost, and our upgrade was certainly expensive (though very much deserved after the walk).

We were in town for a nearby wedding and found the hotel a pleasant space to rest and get ready. No complaints. It's probably about the "fanciest" you'll get in Hexham and very centrally located. Its walking distance (though a bit of a hike) from the train station. The bathroom in particular was newly updated, and though oddly-shaped, spacious and the soaking tub a great comfort after a long journey! *£129 weekend (fall) rate *family owned and operated *nice staff *very clean and tidy *breakfast is AOK. I'd stay again. Again, its not fancy - but it'll get the job done!

The rooms were spacious and very comfortable with a lovely big bed, nice big TV and nice bathroom. The dinner menu and snack menu had plenty of options and breakfast had a cooked option and continental which included fresh fruits, fruit in bowls (presumably from cans), toast and spreads, yoghurt, cereals and juices. It's perfectly located in the centre of town, close to pretty much everything with a lovely park just across the road and the Hexham cathedral just down the road. The station is close also. I'd certainly stay here again.

At check out I was hit with "did you extend your stay?" (I hadn't) "you were undercharged by the Manager at check-in" and "that Manager is not supposed to check anyone in"! There is also a menu option with eggs benedict, eggs royale etc that you can't get at the buffet. All options are delicious and they even give you a little paper bag that you can put some fruit, muffins and pastries in to take away for your lunch! The spa facilities are quite good, the gym is slightly on the small side but still useable. Lovely swimming pool, jacuzzi and steam room with friendly staff. I had one dinner here in their Hawthorne restaurant, and it was one of the best meals I think I've had in a hotel! To start with I had rabbit popcorn which was well seasoned, moist and extremely tasty and for my first try of rabbit, I was impressed! For mains I had a venison burger with chips. The venison burger was literally one of the best I have ever had! I asked for it to be cooked medium and it was cooked too perfection! Not too red but juicy and crumbly - utterly delicious! My mains was a rich chocolate brownie, which again was pretty amazing although I do have to admit that at this point I was pretty full and didn't manage to finish it all! Overall, the Crowne Plaza in Newcastle is a lovely hotel, comfy beds, good service (I broke my nail one night and the concierge found me a nail file right away), tasty breakfast, decent food, excellent facilities - definitely try and stay if you're in the area!

It is located on the Osborne Road, just around the corner from the main strip of hotels, bars and restaurants that forms an extension of the city centre. There's a lounge bar and restaurant; the latter takes last orders at 8.30pm, and room service also stops an hour or so later. Inside, the hotel itself is clearly converted from a number of formerly residential properties, with one of those complicated layouts with lots of little bits of corridor and multiple short flights of stairs, and lots of internal fire-doors. On the plus side: it's conveniently located and it offers car parking (albeit limited). The staff were very pleasant and helpful (something on which the hotel prides itself); I was upgraded to a large room without asking; there's good free wifi, and plentiful instant hot water. The bed was very comfy and everything was spotlessly clean. As it happens, I slept very well, although the upstairs floor creaked, so I was glad I'd requested a top-floor room, and the bedroom door could have done with extra sound-proofing. Had their been more numerous or noisier guests staying, it might have been a different story. The cooked breakfast was prepared freshly to order, and offered a good choice (fried bread is a rarity these days) although the cold buffet of cereals, juice and croissants would have been improved by taking the cling film off the containers. That all said, areas of the hotel could do with upgrading. The rooms have been partly refurbished, with new wallpaper and decoration, but the furniture and common parts need further modernisation. The bathroom, although very clean, also needed a refit - the pink suite looked rather tired (the sink was cracked) and although I'm only 5'8", I had to bend my knees to get under the shower head. Essentially, service gets four stars and the hotel decor and fittings get two, so overall three. So, on this occasion, it fitted my purpose, but I'd equally happily try elsewhere next time.

8/11/16 - 2 nights - Business trip…read more I'm in agreement with the other reviewer. I did like the fresh breakfast on a hot plate. I thought the cereal selection was pretty reasonable. First morning given 4 triangles of toast, and then only two the next. I ate in the hotel the first night, and I had the steak and chips. The steak was OK, but the chips tasted really odd. I mentioned it to the chap on the desk on the way (as well as the waitress). He said that they had cleaned the deep fat fryer recently, so I surmised it must be the potatoes. Also, only one red wine available by the glass. Although the wine menu said otherwise. Again, the chap at the desk they were running down the stock to revise the wine menu. He offered to take it off the bill, but I declined, as there was nothing wrong with the wine. Parking is a bit of an issue. First night I was on the road, with a permit. YOU NEED A PERMIT, OTHERWISE NASTY FINE (£80). Next day, people had moved off the forecourt, so I moved my car and returned the permit. The second night I ventured out, and it was amazing how close it was to other places to eat. After, using the satnav to find the curry place that was rated on Yelp..... I go lost several times... as the satnav assumed I was in a car!!!! Anyway, I went by an Italian restaurant on my travels, and made it to the curry house. Then I saw their food standards' agency rating: 3 out of 5. So I gave it a miss and returned to the Italian. Anyway, back to the hotel. The hotel room was pretty basic. I knew I was going to have a single bed, but nearly fell out twice. The bathroom was OK. Plus good power from the shower. No safe in my room, which is pre-requisite, that my booking agent forgot to check. So can't go back on this basis alone. Add to the fact that the rate looked cheap as they hadn't included breakfast.... Not the hotels' fault, but quickly rectified. I still had problems getting to the office from here.... Even though north of the river and closer to the office... Not the hotel's fault, but traffic in Newcastle is a nightmare.

We stayed in the suites which come in at a hefty £80 a night. The bed was so comfortable, large and not too soft or hard and the room was clean. The view is superlative. Overlooking the sea with a bay window and chairs to sit in watching the waves! Lovely! However. I was very disappointed in the decoration which is now tired and a bit outdated. There were no toiletries at all, not even hand soap! which is a bit bizarre! There were no slippers or gowns which I would expect for that price in Hartlepool. The wi-fi didn't work in the room at all and the telly was a basic 5 channels. However, I would stay again if I could afford it just for the view and the food! xx

The decor wasn fresh and the beds were very clean and comfortable. The breakfast was served in a small ground floor ding room, by a lady who was very chatty and a great cook. Food was plentiful and piping hot with a good selection of stand breakfast food. Close to the beach and had we not have been there in February that would have been useful!!!

The rooms are clean and modern, there's free wifi, and the staff are fantastic. If you like a drink, you'll love the 'happy hour game' from 4.30pm till 7pm (Mon-Thurs), if you're a smoker, there's a nice bit of decking out the front overlooking the sea. The sea front is great, great for a walk or cycle on a nice day. Or you can walk out to the famous Roker lighthouse right in front of the hotel. There's also a good pub on the beach, right in front of the hotel, called The Smugglers. I particularly like this pub, it has a lot of live music and open mic nights. Stay at the Roker, you'll love it!
