    Beautiful landscaping?

The 2 star rating was because the have wonderful homemade cookies in the Kemp House every day. Everything else sucked. I had no idea when I booked through Priceline that we weren't in the main building. Apparently the Kemp House two blocks away is what I booked and it is an old dump with no perks of being in a bed and breakfast like a shared living area (which is important to me since I am an early riser and my husband sleeps in), no coffee, no access to a person without tracking down a phone number to call. We blew a fuse blow drying my hair the first day and when we called the manager blamed the electrician who had recently been out. I asked why we got that room if they knew it had a problem and was told it was the only room available. I had booked the room 4 months in advance!! I was later offered a room on the third floor in the main building but after looking at the windows from the outside and considering we had already unpacked we weren't moving. We just had to turn the AC unit off each day for me to blow dry. (Colonel Kemp room FYI) There is only a standup shower (no tub) and the bathroom sink isn't in the bathroom. (Not evident from the Priceline listing.) Maid service left us toilet paperless on day 2. We didn't get any of the breakfast that should have been included because their breakfast area was open to the public (something else not advertised) and the line to get in the door was ridiculous each morning. We paid about $250 a night. SO not worth the cost. I feel completely ripped off by what we did get.

And the rackets we were given were kids rackets (the one adult racket had a a broken string). But that's ok. Again, no big deal. The grounds were stunning. The flowers were beyond gorgeous. We asked to be moved to the dining room. Staff was extremely rude and stuck us in the back in the dining room by ourselves and ignored us until we asked to be served. For $155 per person, we expected a much higher level of quality and service. The service throughout the meal was extremely slow, the food was mediocre at best, and the brunch setup felt confusing and underwhelming. There was a buffet for salads and sides, but then guests still had to select an entrée from a dinner-style menu in the middle of the day. The dessert buffet was nearly empty by the time we got there, and we ended up being served parfaits instead. They didn't even provide parfait spoons, and we had to ask for a knife just to scrape the bottom of the glass. The property itself is beautiful, but unfortunately the dining experience did not come close to justifying the price. We left feeling frustrated and disappointed, especially for a special occasion like Mother's Day.

Morning two eggs or pumpkin pancakes. Both were great. Only negative was the shower in our room. It was a stall shower, which we knew, but the water pressure was terrible. Before we left I planned a surprise sailing cruise for my fiancé and Aida left a sweet note about the gift from me and vouchers for complimentary gelato around the corner for us. She is so accommodating even when a few little things didn't go as planned for us. (Car trouble, weather... not her doing at all but she made them easier to manage.) She has great suggestions for what to do in St. Michael's. Breakfast was set up beautifully in the morning and cooked to order. Portions were huge if you wanted them. We are lighter eaters and once I told her that she gave us perfect smaller portions, but if you want a big breakfast you will not be disappointed here. The inn only has about eight rooms, and each is different. Ours was very comfortable with flowers, art and antiques wherever I looked. There's central air and the softest towels I think I've ever used. She lets you keep stuff in the fridge and even said we could use her laundry when my fiancé sat on something and messed up his pants. We had leftovers when we needed to leave and she gave us a styrofoam cooler to take with us... that will be used a lot this summer, I'm sure. The location is walking distance to most things in town, so while there is off street parking, we walked most of the time. You can't go wrong here with Aida's Victoriana Inn! Note, though, a lot of businesses and restaurants in town are operating at partial capacity or reduced hours, or are closed due to Covid 19. This has nothing to do with the Victoriana Inn, but it is worth calling ahead if you have specific things you want to do while in town to make sure they're available. We had to shift some dining plans but it was a last minute getaway and we didn't care all that much. It a worked out but if you have your heart set on something, check in advance to make sure you'll be able to do it.

It's inside three historic buildings along the main street near the very posh Inn at Perry Cabin. The main building used to be a schoolhouse. Here's my overnight experience. 1) Check-In: The hotel communicated with me via text with clear instructions on how to check-in. I parked in the main building's lot and checked in inside their cafe/shop. My room with a king-sized bed was in The Brick House across the street from the main building. Even with a short line, I was in my room within minutes. 2) Rooms: My room came with a shared balcony overlooking the main street, a little fireplace, a comfy king-sized bed, good shower water pressure, towels, an iron and board, a TV, and free water and chips. The minimalist farmhouse look plays well inside the room. There are plenty of outlets and a shelf for my belongings. Two books came in the room for light reading. 3) Space: The main building has a little shop with local products, snacks, and more. There's also a coffee shop and their restaurant- Ruse. 4) Amenities: Each building has a free parking lot for guests. Breakfast is included each morning as are snacks in the room. Every evening, you can pick up a free s'more kit and roast marshmallows in the back firepit. The hotel offers free yard games and bikes for guests to use. 5) Service: The woman behind the front desk was friendly and helpful! Other reviews noted this, but the walls are thin. I could hear everything the guests next door to me were saying and doing- doors slamming, talking, everything.

The main building is cute, with a lovely sundry shop and the hotel's restaurant, Ruse. We stayed in the building across the street. The room was fine, albeit small. I think I was expecting it to be more luxe. I really enjoyed the shower and the fireplace, which they had just turned on for the season. We noticed the vents were dirty and the filters needed cleaning, so even though everything else appeared clean, who knows what else they are missing. The bed and pillows were soft and comfortable. I appreciated the snacks and water. There was no sound proofing in the building, as I could hear doors slamming and conversations all night. And, a staff member walked into our room as we were getting settled. I definitely used my door jammer/alarm that night, because that was not good. The door didn't have an internal latch, peep hole, or do not disturb sign. However, this building was only accessible by keycard, which was good. Breakfast is included. There are pastry, granola, and yogurt options, plus coffee (they use Ceremony) and juice. I loved the savory biscuit, but get there early for that. I'd return, though I'd book a better room class than standard king, and perhaps that would improve my experience. However, my partner would not return. I hope they act upon their areas of improvement.

The owner, Janet, was very helpful both before us picking this B&B and during our entire stay. Our stay was from Fri-Sun in the middle of winter and we wound up being the only guests in the house that weekend, which was nice for us. Upon arrival, Janet takes you into the beautifully decorated parlor room where you fill out forms for when and what you want for breakfast each morning. She had a different menu for each day of our stay. She then gave us a tour of the home while taking us to our room, the Harrison room, which was located on the 2nd floor. There are only three guest rooms, two of which are located at the 2nd floor and the other on the 3rd floor. Janet has done a wonderful job of decorating this very old home and we enjoyed our stay in the lovely and comfortable Harrison room. The room is equipped with a queen sized bed, a sitting area, fireplace, HDTV, coffee maker, and a private bathroom. The wood burning fireplace was all set, so all we had to do was light it. Being the middle of winter, we lit the fire each night. The bathroom sink is small, but there is a built-in open medicine cabinet where you can store your toiletry items. Close the bathroom door and flip on the heater, and the bathroom will be nice and toasty for yourself! My wife and I thoroughly enjoyed each of our breakfasts. Both days, we started with fresh fruit, which came with a little scoop of raspberry sherbet. Our first breakfast consisted of french toast with sausage on the side and on the second morning, we had waffles with bananas. You have your choice of coffee, teas, and juices. She also has an assortment of DaVinci syrups to add to your coffee if you like. Breakfast was always ready at the time we specified each morning, and we got to enjoy our breakfast while sitting next to a roaring fire. The dining room consists of one round table, so you would be potentially eating with others if other guests picked a breakfast time the same or close to what you picked. Free WiFi is provided, but I found it to be slow much of the time. I think the issue had to do with where the access point is located. I had a fairly weak WiFi signal from the room on the second floor, but things improved somewhat when I sat in the parlor room. Ultimately it wasn't a real big deal for me as my device had a cellular signal and I wound up using that most of the time. The B&B is located just off a side street in downtown St. Michaels and we simply walked into town to go shopping. You are also very close to the Maritime Museum. Only street parking is available around the house. Being the dead of winter, we had no difficulty parking. I would say watch out for the no parking signs as I accidentally wound up illegally parking the first night. Fortunately a neighbor told me before a cop discovered it! This B&B accepts cash or check only and you do have to pay 50% at the time of reservation. I would have preferred that credit cards were accepted. In summary, Dr. Dodson house provided my wife and I and very relaxing weekend getaway with delicious breakfasts, and this is exactly what we were looking for. We did have a window view, but since it was dark already we didn't have much of a view, except for when the lightening illuminated the sky. Then you could see the water and the dock and the Adirondack chairs across the lawn. I imagine it would be an amazing view in the day time. But even at night, it was lovely. We were surprised at how full we were! The amusé bouche was an oyster in a light cream sauce (it's been a few days - I believe that's correct). Delicious, as was the light vegetable serving my boyfriend had since he is more vegetarian. The oyster stew was also wonderful (no wonder I was so full) and they provided a vegetable soup that was too. Our mains around the table were a black cod (again, I think that's accurate), and Maryland Crab Boil which really is a crab cake and very crab full. The fish had a nice crisp touch but tender and moist - all excellent and just enough for us. There was a vegan chocolate mousse made with avocado, a flourless dairy version, both good. We also had the panna cotte and an interesting donut with tropical fruit. I could tell my server wasn't quite impressed with the cake donut but I had to try it and it was just ok. Downsides? It was a 3 hour meal. Long breaks in between. Good thing we all like each other and have many stories to tell. Whether there was a large party going on or what, we don't know. They could have kept us more informed about timing and/or offered another round of wine but we were pretty much on our own in between as we were outside on the patio. Otherwise a five star experience and nice staff though they feel a bit young and at the mercy of the kitchen. Having been a waitperson it felt like they were afraid to interact to tell us about timing. But I always think it's better for the customer to know what's up and feel taken care of rather than abandoned. We'll be back another time however.!
