Note dingy curtains tacked to wall

We stayed at The Parsonage Inn in St. Michael's recently and, as excited as we were to visit it, we cannot, in good conscience, recommend this B&B. There were numerous minor negatives but I will keep this review to address the two biggest issues. First and foremost, we had, by their account, their nicest and most expensive room (#2). The pictures on their website show a beautifully decorated room with a brass headboard, lovely green comforter with coordinating decorative pillows, beautiful dark green lace curtains hanging behind the bed, two side chairs with nice pillows flanking a mantle with a lovely table between them set with wine glasses, crystal water glasses and a pretty candlestick lamp. Mantle was also decorated with attention to detail. We would have loved to have stayed in this room - just beautiful! Instead, the room decor was COMPLETELY different from what their website pictured. There was a sleigh bed, dingy curtain panels literally tacked flat against the wall behind the bed, no pillows on the chairs, a throw that was folded sloppily on the back of one of the chairs, no pretty accent pillows on the bed, different comforter which, while nice, was nothing like the pictured one. There was still a table, but it had nothing but two coasters thrown on top...no wine glasses, no water glasses, no pretty candlestick lamp. Oh, and the room does have its own bathroom, but there is no bathroom door, if privacy is a concern. This was not mentioned on their website at all. We have stayed in many B&B's in our travels and while there are sometimes small issues, we have never written a bad review before this. And we definitely understand changes in decor or furniture being a little different. But the gross misrepresentation of this room was just not acceptable. And it truly showed a lack of care with the way the room was presented to us. The second issue is the owner. While it is true that the inn has many many good reviews, the guests who have had a less than positive experience and have dared to write about it are found to be at fault by the owner. In reading those reviews and responses, the owner invariably refuses to accept any responsibility for their experience, and instead tries to belittle them or cast them as troublesome, or "a challenge" as we were labeled. If you don't read the negative reviews, at least read the owner's responses to reviews and you'll see for yourself. For example, my husband attempted to take a shower in the morning and could get no hot water, so after trying for 20 minutes (turning the nob all the way in BOTH directions), he went down to see if he could get help. He respectfully informed Shelley of the issue, but again, the owner chose to make the guest at fault, as if we didn't know how a faucet worked. A good innkeeper will never shift blame on the guest and can accept responsibility when shortcomings are pointed out. Most look at it as a chance to improve. Not so with this owner, which is a shame. But, pictures don't lie. I wish I had taken better ones when we were there, but clearly, the room we stayed in looked nothing like on their website. So bottom line, if you choose to stay at this inn and pick your room based on their website pictures, you might want to ask them to send you photos of the room in its current state. At $260/night, we would never have chosen this room. And now after seeing the owner's lack of professionalism, we sadly can't recommend a stay there at all. There are definitely better choices.

I surprised my wife with a getaway weekend to St Michael's from Washington DC. We enjoy using B&Bs around the country so I arranged for a stay here. The weather didn't cooperate as it poured rain the whole weekend and was on the cool side but we tried to make the best of it. I made the reservation by phone with Rex, the Innkeeper and also arranged for a dozen roses and chocolate covered strawberries to be in the room when we arrived. The flowers were beautiful long stem roses, much better than I had ever gotten her in the past...lol...the chocolates were delicious...great intro to the Inn and start of our weekend. The room was cold to where our noses and hands were cold so we went downstairs, sat by the fire, enjoyed some coffee/tea, afternoon cookies, talked to Rex, and played with his very well behaved dog who lives there. Rex mentioned the room temperature is fine if you're under the covers and my wife and I both thought, but we're not under the covers and both wearing long sleeved clothes. He mentioned there was a thermostat in the hallway which I found and adjusted. If you like it cold, this is the place for you because we were cold to start which given the cost of our room at $180 shouldn't be the case. There should be a level of comfort without feeling like you're the bad guy for adjusting the temperature. There is parking in the rear of the Inn although not many spaces. There were chocolate chip muffins on the breakfast table to start, which I enjoy, but found a bit odd for a B&B. Next there was a yogurt/fruit cup that was good, then a souffle that we were warned may have parchment paper attached. We were expecting to be wow'd with an amazingly unique breakfast and just didn't get it. Breakfast was good but it reached a point where the small talk finished and it felt like the table of 8 was waiting for another course. Eventually Rex made a comment that breakfast was over and we all got up, but my wife and I left thinking, is this it?...which I can imagine others felt as well. It was a nice getaway although not the experience we thought it would be.

    Holiday cheer!

Window of the the water with a great view from our room. Room was neat and bed was comfortable. Stayed for the weekend, breakfast both days was good. French toast, eggs and sausage morning one. Morning two eggs or pumpkin pancakes. Both were great. Only negative was the shower in our room. It was a stall shower, which we knew, but the water pressure was terrible. It also took about 10 minutes to come to a warm temp, I felt bad running the water that long. All and all great stay. I'd 100% suggest this place for a weekend getaway.

Before we left I planned a surprise sailing cruise for my fiancé and Aida left a sweet note about the gift from me and vouchers for complimentary gelato around the corner for us. She is so accommodating even when a few little things didn't go as planned for us. (Car trouble, weather... not her doing at all but she made them easier to manage.) She has great suggestions for what to do in St. Michael's. Breakfast was set up beautifully in the morning and cooked to order. Portions were huge if you wanted them. We are lighter eaters and once I told her that she gave us perfect smaller portions, but if you want a big breakfast you will not be disappointed here. The inn only has about eight rooms, and each is different. Ours was very comfortable with flowers, art and antiques wherever I looked. There's central air and the softest towels I think I've ever used. She lets you keep stuff in the fridge and even said we could use her laundry when my fiancé sat on something and messed up his pants. We had leftovers when we needed to leave and she gave us a styrofoam cooler to take with us... that will be used a lot this summer, I'm sure. The location is walking distance to most things in town, so while there is off street parking, we walked most of the time. You can't go wrong here with Aida's Victoriana Inn! Note, though, a lot of businesses and restaurants in town are operating at partial capacity or reduced hours, or are closed due to Covid 19. This has nothing to do with the Victoriana Inn, but it is worth calling ahead if you have specific things you want to do while in town to make sure they're available. We had to shift some dining plans but it was a last minute getaway and we didn't care all that much. It a worked out but if you have your heart set on something, check in advance to make sure you'll be able to do it.

Pros: There are many more popular B&Bs and inns in town, but Point Breeze has several perks. We felt like we had really lucked out and ended up with the best choice! 1) Lovely waterfront location with a great view of the harbor and lighthouse. Most of the B&Bs in St. Michaels are right on the main drag and not on the water. I doubt any of the other places have such a great view! 2) Kayaks, canoe, and bikes available for guest use -- no extra cost! 3) You're free to laze about anywhere on the beautifully landscaped yard. 4) You can fish from the private dock, and the innkeeper will help you "chicken neck" for crabs, if you want. 5) Joan, the innkeeper, makes a mean omelette and awesome German pancakes! 6) Speaking of Joan, she's a sweetie! So wonderful to talk to! 7) Very quiet area. Not right in town, so you don't get all the road noise. Very peaceful. 8) Free soft drinks available any time. 9) Costs quite a bit less than most other places in town. 10) Everything was spotlessly clean and comfortable. 11) Wi-Fi for all! 12) If you have a family of 6 and 2 people don't mind twin beds, you could rent the whole house out. Cons (sort of): 1) This isn't a con for me, but I can see how it could be for other people: Point Breeze's guest rooms are not fancy. You feel like you're staying over with relatives. We liked it, though! 2) No TVs in the guest rooms. A small TV is available in the great room. We really didn't care, however. We weren't there to watch TV. 3) If you don't want to take a short walk or bike ride into town, you'd be better off staying in town. We enjoyed the walk in -- not far for us at all! 4) Not many rooms -- only 3. But if you want to stay someplace quiet, this shouldn't be a problem. 5) 2 of the rooms share a bathroom. Not a big deal if you are staying with family or close friends. If you are a couple, there is one room available with a private bath. 6) Bare bones amenities in the bathroom, but more than adequate and comfortable.

The owner, Janet, was very helpful both before us picking this B&B and during our entire stay. Our stay was from Fri-Sun in the middle of winter and we wound up being the only guests in the house that weekend, which was nice for us. Upon arrival, Janet takes you into the beautifully decorated parlor room where you fill out forms for when and what you want for breakfast each morning. She had a different menu for each day of our stay. She then gave us a tour of the home while taking us to our room, the Harrison room, which was located on the 2nd floor. There are only three guest rooms, two of which are located at the 2nd floor and the other on the 3rd floor. Janet has done a wonderful job of decorating this very old home and we enjoyed our stay in the lovely and comfortable Harrison room. The room is equipped with a queen sized bed, a sitting area, fireplace, HDTV, coffee maker, and a private bathroom. The wood burning fireplace was all set, so all we had to do was light it. Being the middle of winter, we lit the fire each night. The bathroom sink is small, but there is a built-in open medicine cabinet where you can store your toiletry items. Close the bathroom door and flip on the heater, and the bathroom will be nice and toasty for yourself! My wife and I thoroughly enjoyed each of our breakfasts. Both days, we started with fresh fruit, which came with a little scoop of raspberry sherbet. Our first breakfast consisted of french toast with sausage on the side and on the second morning, we had waffles with bananas. You have your choice of coffee, teas, and juices. She also has an assortment of DaVinci syrups to add to your coffee if you like. Breakfast was always ready at the time we specified each morning, and we got to enjoy our breakfast while sitting next to a roaring fire. The dining room consists of one round table, so you would be potentially eating with others if other guests picked a breakfast time the same or close to what you picked. Free WiFi is provided, but I found it to be slow much of the time. I think the issue had to do with where the access point is located. I had a fairly weak WiFi signal from the room on the second floor, but things improved somewhat when I sat in the parlor room. Ultimately it wasn't a real big deal for me as my device had a cellular signal and I wound up using that most of the time. The B&B is located just off a side street in downtown St. Michaels and we simply walked into town to go shopping. You are also very close to the Maritime Museum. Only street parking is available around the house. Being the dead of winter, we had no difficulty parking. I would say watch out for the no parking signs as I accidentally wound up illegally parking the first night. Fortunately a neighbor told me before a cop discovered it! This B&B accepts cash or check only and you do have to pay 50% at the time of reservation. I would have preferred that credit cards were accepted. In summary, Dr. Dodson house provided my wife and I and very relaxing weekend getaway with delicious breakfasts, and this is exactly what we were looking for. If we ever find ourselves back in St. Michaels, we will definitely look to see if there is availability at Dr. Dodson's house!!

We noticed the vents were dirty and the filters needed cleaning, so even though everything else appeared clean, who knows what else they are missing. The bed and pillows were soft and comfortable. I appreciated the snacks and water. There was no sound proofing in the building, as I could hear doors slamming and conversations all night. And, a staff member walked into our room as we were getting settled. I definitely used my door jammer/alarm that night, because that was not good. The door didn't have an internal latch, peep hole, or do not disturb sign. However, this building was only accessible by keycard, which was good. Breakfast is included. There are pastry, granola, and yogurt options, plus coffee (they use Ceremony) and juice. I loved the savory biscuit, but get there early for that. I'd return, though I'd book a better room class than standard king, and perhaps that would improve my experience. However, my partner would not return. I hope they act upon their areas of improvement.
