The fam and I frequently venture to the World Exchange Plaza to explore downtown, and take advantage of the close proximity to Parliament and Sparks. They used to offer free parking on the weekends (which has sadly now come to an end). The$10.00 min for parking on a Friday night after 6, even if only being parked for 30 minutes is quiet steep. Yikes! The parking lot is underground and was mostly empty on a Friday evening, mind you its during the Winter. We parked here to take a stroll down Sparks street, so while it was convenient, its just way too much $$. There is a TD bank on site and a Shoppers Drug Mart. Restrooms are fantastic here, clean, and well looked after. I recommend using the restrooms upstairs by the food court. Be mindful as the restrooms are not open 24/7 and they do close. The main entrance doors lock by a certain time, and there is a garage parking entrance a small distance away. There are signs around the building stating the times of the closures for the restrooms and building. I would take note of those when parking.

I mean some of the people making food at these places are just as skilled and talented as the chefs at restaurants; they just don't have the resources or perhaps they don't have the desire to open a restaurant, but still have the passion to feed others with their food. Admittedly, not all independent vendors serve good food, but I do like supporting the little guys by giving them a chance. Toronto has Village by the Grange, Markham has Pacific Mall, and First Markham Place, and Montreal had the Faubourg - I'm talking in it's heyday (circa late 1990's) not present day where there are only 2 vendors left and the place is essentially a ghost town [sniffle, sniffle]. Man, I loved that place, but hey, sentimentality is for chumps [wipes away tears] and I am digressing... Anyway, all this is to say that the food court at the World Exchange Plaza is probably the closest thing to a "cool food court" that Ottawa has. While it has a mix of chains and independents, the independent vendors do outnumber the chains. The World Exchange Plaza is an office and retail building. Once upon a time it also had a movie theatre, but that has since closed. It's actually quite pretty and has a huge atrium in the middle (with sculptures of narwhals and beluga whales hanging from the ceiling). The eastern side looks a bit like The Roman Colosseum. The outside has steps leading down to it where people like to sit during nice weather to eat their lunches. There is also an outdoor amphitheatre. When I went by today there was a group playing music for the lunch crowd. The main retailers are Shoppers Drug Mart, and the LCBO. The food court is on the second floor and the vendors are: Muffin Plus/The Soup Guy, Asian Gourmet, Shakey's, Kebob Kebob, Tasha's, Cheesy Pizza & Pasta, Booster Juice, Subway, Thai Express, Sushi Shop and Second Cup. The eating area is kept very clean and there are seats that are a bit secluded that over look the street and seats that are more central that over look the atrium. The washrooms are also very clean. At lunchtime it's full of office workers. There are very few babies, kids, and tourists. Overall, a good place to grab a quick bite in a nice environment.

We said yes but it is only 9:33 and she reiterated we were after last call. This from a person who has served us many times after this so called last call. And the place was empty other than staff so if they didn't want anymore customers why didn't they lock the door. We each ordered a pint of Guinness while we waited decided what to order. There was only a limited St. Patty's menu available. I'm not a big fan of barbecue sauce on burgers, but I got the special Guinness BBQ burger and wings for the table. The burger had an 8oz beef patty, cheddar cheese, bacon, sauteed onions, and Guinness barbecue sauce on a brioche bun, and I upgraded for an extra $3 to a side Caesar salad. The salad was good, not too saucy with crisp bacon, but it was quite small and I'm not sure it was worth the extra charge. The burger was super filling, but had too much sauce for my liking. I'm a slower eater, so it started getting soggy and I ended up just eating the fillings near the end lol. I did appreciate that the lettuce, big tomato slice, and raw red onions came on the side. I read some reviews online that the burger wasn't done enough, which I actually like (I like a mid-rare burger but I know places don't usually do this), but it was definitely cooked inside and not pink at all. Still moist enough, though, and not dry. I got Cajun seasoning (dry) on the wings, with a side of afterburn and sweet and hot sauce. There were no modifications allowed this day, but the sauces were an additional 50 cents rather than a mod. Our server seemed a bit stressed when I ordered it, saying she wasn't able to put in the sauces, so I told her not to worry about it if it was too much trouble, but she found a way to enter them into their system. The wings were a nice size and portion, great breading, and fried perfectly, nice and crispy, even after I had my burger first. The Cajun seasoning made them a little saltier than I'd like, but that's okay, good flavour. The sweet and hot sauce was darker, kind of like a sweet and spicy barbecue. Their house-made afterburn hot sauce, which you can buy bottled, was tomato-based and pretty spicy, so I only dipped a bit, and wouldn't recommend getting your wings tossed in them unless you're really good with spicy food. They have much better food here than I'm used to at your average local pub. Our server had a bunch of tables, but she was still very sweet and friendly, and we didn't notice a lag in service. We enjoyed our time and I much prefer this little pub over some of the others in the neighbourhood!

I stopped by to get a Pina Colada rolled ice cream ($8.49) for my husband and I to share. I love watching rolled ice cream being prepared, lol. They pour out the liquid onto a frozen metal sheet and add the toppings and chop it up. Then they spread it thin and roll it up. So cool. After rolling it up, they added a few cubes of pineapple and sprinkled on shredded coconut and drizzled on some pineapple syrup. I would have loved some whipped cream, haha. Maybe I'll ask if they have any next time. It tasted great, very creamy and a smooth texture. It was fun to watch too. It's just a bit pricey for my budget, so nice for a once in a while treat, but I won't be a regular lol. However, it's about the same price as at Roll'd Up, which is the only other place in Ottawa that sells rolled ice cream, so I guess that's what the market will bear. I liked that the staff member preparing my ice cream wore a hairnet and gloves. They have no seats to dine in, so it's strictly takeout. However, they do have a washroom. It's a single stall that's wheelchair accessible. Staff were courteous. The ice cream takes a while to make, so I imagine the wait can be long if it's busy. I went on a rainy day and off-peak hours, so I was the only customer. I'm looking forward to returning to try their Falooda. They are in a small plaza. Same plaza as a Circle K. There's free parking in the plaza.
