We were pleasantly surprised by the cute ambiance inside, we were not expecting that al all. Service was nice and attentive, we waited about 15-20 min for our food. We ordered 2 Colombian breakfasts, they were both delicious! The coffee was pretty good too! Will definitely be back to try more things. Minus one star because there was a water leak in the middle of the dining area but the staff didn't seem to mind it at all. That was a bit concerning.

The beautiful artwork featuring local women of color from Colombia adds a great cultural touch, and there's plenty of parking. I ordered the Papas Rellenas (picadillo-stuffed potato fritters), which were really big, dense, and satisfying for $5. I also got the bandeja paisa (with kidney beans, steak, fried egg, pork belly, etc.), knowing it would take about 20 minutes on a Monday at 10:45 a.m. That wait felt outrageous, though--only about 10 people were in a space that could easily hold 100. However, the pork belly and steak wasn't overcooked and very flavorful. Even the sausage bursted with flavor. The food was authentic and tasty, but the long wait is a dealbreaker for me unless I'm with a friend craving Latin food and have time to spare. I probably won't return on my own unless it's a weekend and I have time to kill.

Looking for a good steak in an unknown area, we were lucky to have found La Estancia; the pictures…read morewere enough to convince us. The service was 10/10. They were not very busy when we arrived but remained attentive during our entire visit. The food was fresh, well-seasoned, and delicious. We got a parrillada mixta, which means mixed grilled meats. It was superb! My husband had a cup of coffee, which was also good. Usually, restaurants go for generic coffee, and it's always overcooked. This was fresh and delicious. The restaurant is nicely decorated, music is playing, and there is a bar. It would be a great hang-out spot.

1 Star is too much -- Very disappointing experience…read more We were really excited to try this restaurant because we were hoping for an authentic Argentinian dining experience. Unfortunately, it was nothing like what we expected, and the food was extremely disappointing. Then I found out the owner is Bolivian not even Argentinian. The chimichurri was red and had a very different taste than what we expected. The green hot sauce was basically like eating raw jalapeño--extremely overpowering. The mashed potatoes were watery and very salty, and the broccoli was literally sitting in so much water that almost half of the bowl was full of it. The rice tasted like microwave rice, and the French fries were just ordinary fries. The biggest disappointment was the meat. It was extremely fatty, chewy, and had almost no flavor. The chicken was overcooked and tasted like leftovers that had been reheated. For an Argentinian restaurant, the quality and preparation of the meat should be one of the highlights, but unfortunately, it was the complete opposite. Honestly, we could barely eat our food and ended up leaving most of it. What made the experience even worse was that, despite barely being able to eat the food, we were still charged half of the meal. The total bill was over $85, and that included $5 for a small cup of what tasted like microwave rice. Just in case the food looks half-empty in the pictures, we did put some of the food onto our plates to try it. Unfortunately, we couldn't eat it, so that's why some of the containers look partially empty. As someone who was genuinely looking forward to trying Argentinian food, this experience was incredibly disappointing. In my opinion, this restaurant does not represent the quality or flavors that people expect from Argentinian cuisine. Unfortunately, I cannot recommend this restaurant, and I would not return.

The restaurant is located on the second floor of a "random" building, so it might be a bit difficult to find unless you are in the know. Although there were not many folks during my visit, the restaurant gives off a very strong Colombian flare. I originally stopped by to get a drink, but I ended up trying the caserito, which was sort of a combo meal. This meal included a delicious soup, a beer filet, beans, rice, and a small salad. It was quite the meal for only $14 bucks. I do not remember the name of the bean-based soup, but it was out of this world delicious. For $14 bucks, I thought the portions were quite generous. The service was pretty good. Since the bartender/waitress did not speak much English, dining here gave me the perfect opportunity to practice my Spanish. I definitely hope to return in the near future to try more items off of the menu and maaaaybe sing karaoke.

Service was on point. My waitress made me feel welcome. She was polite and attentive. The only problem that you may encounter is parking. The restaurant doesn't have parking. You just have to find parking on the side of the street or a small public parking behind the restaurant.

Introduction: For my…read moreScrapbook series, I didn't have anything still in business or that I hadn't already reviewed for 2013. I lived in a basement room in Del Ray Alexandria Apr. 2013-Apr. 2014. I'll have 2 representing 2014 during that time period and the next room in house I lived at later in 2014. Experience at Cafe Sazon: I had been to Cafe Sazon twice, 2014 & 2021. Friday, January 24, 2014 was a 1st date. She was from Columbia (no not the country, but the one in Maryland), and we had a pretty nice time. Food was solid here. Various South American foods. I got empanada and some rice platter with a meat. Overall, I was pretty impressed with the food. The staff was cordial enough but not great. The seating is various cafe style seating. Sad side note, the very next day there was a shooting at Columbia Mall; my date was from Columbia. This was ominous considering I just had date with her. Incidentally, a 2nd date never happened. My 2nd experience here by amazing coincidence was on Tuesday, August 31, 2021. My friend was taking me to DCA airport for a vacation to Chicago & Wisconsin. I treated her to Cafe Sazon for taking me to the airport as it was good option more or less on the way to the airport. I got some carne asada, potato, egg, & plantains. All were very good. My friend was impressed. They were a little slow as I remember we had some time but still I did need to catch my flight. If I was back over here, I'd consider enjoying their great food again.
