The First time I came in I needed a box to ship a snowboard, I assumed I would have to buy one, but they looked for me but couldn't find a specific snowboard box so brought me out some ski boxes tape and scissors! Mind you I had never been here or shopped here before I couldn't believe how gracious they were! Not to mention I had a friendly dog hanging around as I was building the box! So rad! The next time I had to sell some of my gear to pay a bill and the guy working in the gear section could feel my pain and gave me a really solid deal that he really didn't have to! This place is special In Bellingham and the people who work here have to be the best spirited team in any shop around town. Terrible customer service and the warranty. I have a Granville backpack which is less than a year…read moreold, and the fabric on the front cover is deteriorating significantly for a normal use. I called the customer service and they told me to bring in the backpack in a store, so they could ship it back to their head office in North Van for an inspection. When I took it back, the sales person asked me if I have washed the backpack. I was a bit puzzled and told her that I haven't. She then warmed me that they may charge me $15 for some kind of bad hygiene practice or another as the product hasn't washed and they need to inspect it as it is. I was thinking who would wash a backpack?! I asked her to make a note on the file that I cleaned the backpack, so that they can waive the charge. She then told me that it would take 4 - 6 weeks generously until they finish their inspection and get back to me on what they can do about it. This is my first time dealing with their warranty, however I dealt with Lululemon and Patagonia for their product not standing to be what they claimed, and they have always dealt with the issues immediately and made me happy. They have never made me wait for 4- 6 weeks. I have a quite few items from Arc'teryx, and I would like to support a company which started locally, however my experience was QUITE disappointing.

They were by far the most expensive I had ever owned but they were bullet proof. One of the things I always liked and valued about the company was their lifetime warranty. I felt very comforted knowing they stood behind their products without reservation. I found out this year that that is gone. I have a an older pair of their bibs. They have been outstanding. They were well over $1,200 when I bought them, but Arc'teryx always stood behind their gear. They are older now and the waterproofing was much diminished. I contacted them and talked about the problem. They had me take many pictures and evaluated from afar. They added many things to the list. They gave me a file number and led me to believe they would take care of all the smaller issues they said were wrong with my bibs as well as the waterproofing. They had me drop the bibs off with the understanding they would look them over in person and fix them up as best they could. I was really only hoping they would redo the waterproofing (via a spray membrane they had been known to use in the past). Then they seemed to have a change of heart. They came back and said there were to many problems to fix and offered me a $130 dollar credit. What do you do with a $130 at an Arc'teryx store? I really only thought they would do the spray and tell me that was all they could do. I would have been one hundred percent satisfied. These bibs served me well for so long and I thought I could get one more run from them. Some lifetime warranty, they wouldn't even try. I told them I did not want their offer. They replied that was as good as it would get. In the end I told them to just send them back to me and I would try my own DIY fix. Whatever they once were is now gone. When I dropped off my bibs, I saw the gear they sell now and I would not buy it, even if it was priced at its true value. They don't make tough gear anymore, they make fashion gear for the "Really Expensive Store". They do not warranty their new gear and apparently they no longer stand behind their traditional gear. I was so disappointed I have vowed to spread the word. They suck!

Great selection of climbing gear and books/guides, and their selection of climbing shoes is awesome! I've never heard of some of the climbing apparel brands before, like, E9, so that was neat to see that they carry a bunch of items. They have a couple racks for sale items, too. Like most outdoor shops, prices are pretty expensive. But, I think the two dollar sign is accurate. In the back is a little section dedicated to used gear. I didn't find anything that really caught my eye though. They offer crashpad rentals!! $20 for the Metolius and $25 for the Organic pads (per day). Pretty fast and easy process to rent: pick a pad, they hold onto your credit card info until you give back their pads (you can pay cash, too), and then upon returning your pad they'll cut up your card info. Chill store. Good resource.

I started a hiking group this summer and I found myself in need of proper hiking pants. This weekend I had some time to go shopping and thinking they must have a good selection because they have a large store, I went to Mountain Equipment Company (MEC). Big mistake. Incompetent staff and pants made for women with no butts. Disgusted, I went to Valhalla Pure, where I should have gone to in the first place. Moments after I walked in Valhalla Pure, an employee asked if I needed help, which I appreciated, as I desperately needed help, and it had taken a long time to find an employee at MEC (who turned out to know nothing about women's hiking pants). I explained to the employee what I was looking for (hiking pants that FIT me), and he was SO HELPFUL. He showed me a couple of different styles and brands, explained their features, and chose sizes that would fit me based on my body shape (he was absolutely spot on about the sizes). The result was that I ended up walking out of there with two pairs of pants. Next time I need something, I am definitely going straight to Valhalla Pure.
