We found the Nook like all good Yelpers...by Yelp reviews, of course! We aren't from the area and were hungry after hiking at Chain O' Lakes. This place really hit the spot. It's a locally owned hot dog stand that's been around forever. The food was just what you'd expect from a hot dog and burger joint. Nothing fancy but definitely had charm and was just what we needed to refuel. The inside was very long and narrow and had the old school counter that you'd see at a soda shop. Had a retro-ish vibe. We'll stop in again the next time we are in the area. The area is in what I would consider a "downtown shopping district" and we popped into a non-dairy ice cream shop that was nearby after we had our fill at The Nook. read more

Pluses: amazing prices, they grill their hotdogs, deep fried mushrooms, very much a hometown restaurant. Oh my goodness! What a find. We were driving to Chicago to host a shower and decided to google a place to eat. Driving into the town alone was so great. Very nostalgic. I love The Nook! What a fun old timey place! I usually order a cheeseburger with all the fixings and have never been disappointed. I really enjoy the steamed buns, maybe that's weird but whatever. The staff are friendly even when it's hectic as this place fills up quick and doesn't have much seating. The only thing that caught me off guard was when I've asked for ranch they brought me out a big bottle, but that just means I can use as much as I want! Was back in the area once again and HAD to stop in The Nook to grab some lunch. On this trip, my wife remembered her cheeseburger the last time we were there, so she ordered one with fries this time. I decided that even though the Coneys were delicious on the previous visit, I simply HAD to try something else. Since this part of Indiana is famous for their tenderloin sandwiches, I decided to try one with fries. The very friendly and helpful waitress suggested that I try the tenderloin with tomato, lettuce, and onion and it was AWESOME. We both had iced tea and it was very very cold and tasty as can be. I grew up in Columbia City on Crooked Lake, I miss it every day. Me and my father went every weekend to the Nook almost from when I was 5 to 12 years old. The hot dogs were always great, owner was friendly. I was always amazed because there was this big rack of gum there I would always get gum before leaving. The onion rings were my favorite. The Nook is my favorite place to eat. When I go in it is like I'm home. Things have not changed much from when I was a child. I enjoyed going there with my parents, then taking my kids and now I have a grandson and can't wait to take him. The service is always great as is the food. My daughters and I love going here for dogs and fries. The staff is always very attentive and even caters to my 2yr! She dropped her corn dog and immediately they offered to make a new one. The breaded cheese burger is one of my favorites. The food is always served hot and with positive energy. We stopped going for awhile, due to the two yr olds behavior, and when we returned asked how we were and told us that she missed us!
