What does the average hall-dwelling student do when they've missed meals, the cupboards are bare and they only have a broken fridge packed with decaying meat and a dozen bottles of low-fat salad dressing?
Yeah... I think pizza is in order. Good, greasy, cheap sustenance, no cutlery needed.
Everyone here gets their pizza from The Nile, so we figured we would too - now I think we made a huge mistake, and anybody following my reviews will know I usually like to give people the benefit of the doubt!
I rang up around 9pm & ordered the pizza deal - one 16" vegetarian pizza with a free 12" pizza, large chips, a cheeseburger and a bottle of Diet Coke. The guy on the other end of the phone mumbled, was rude and hung up on me without telling me how much, when the food would arrive or where. He didn't confirm what was on the order, & when I asked whether I could get student discount he snapped that we'd already got a discount on the pizza - fair enough, but I'd like to be told without the attitude!
Still, I thought, they're probably busy and stressed. It'll be fine, and they're good value...
The food arrived on time - they give a max wait time of 30 minutes, and we waited around 25 - & the driver gave
me a call to collect it. He was friendly, but the company hadn't given him a note saying how much it would cost & they couldn't tell him over the phone. I'd worked out that the total was £13.30, but what if I hadn't?
The food was hot & smelt good, but it was really greasy & sub-par. The chips were soggy, the meat pizza was awful (looked bad, base was burnt & too spongy, bland, clearly not made to order), the cheeseburger was just OK (not nice, but edible). The vegetarian pizza was fine - it was huge and did taste good, the base was just crispy enough and it was warm all through. Everybody ended up eating the vegetarian pizza, since it was so much better - but about half of the total order went untouched.
About a week later I went past The Nile and realised I probably should've checked the place out before I ordered from it.
I really can't understand why The Nile gets such good reviews. Yes, it's really cheap - we got two huge pizzas and trimmings for the same price as smaller deals from other places - but after it all we just felt ripped off and greasy. Next time we'll get Domino's - I picked up about 10 free pizza vouchers for them a day after we ordered from here... read more
